An absolutely beautiful venue!!
An absolutely beautiful venue!! Highly recommended for your wedding day!!
My (now) husband and I first visited the Gale Mansion a couple weeks after our engagement, towards the end of October 2021. At that time, we first met with the coordinator, and then were given a tour of the beautiful and elegant mansion. Immediately, we were impressed with how classy and sophisticated the mansion looked. When we left, we both felt this could be the right place for our reception. Not that long after touring, my (now) husband and I made it official and booked the Gale Mansion as our venue for our reception!
Over the past 10 months, leading up to our wedding day, we had meetings with the coordinator to go over our timeline and check things off our to-do list. Our questions were always answered in a timely manner and the coordinator was exceptional to work with, as she made things easy and stress free for our special day!
Our wedding took place in mid-August 2022 and using the Gale Mansion for our place to get ready, as well as our cocktail hour and reception was truly PERFECT! All the bridesmaids and groomsmen enjoyed getting ready in the bridal suite and the groom’s room. Also, we were able to bring in hair and makeup artists so all the ladies could be in the same room to get ready together, which allowed for lots of time for us all to talk and catch up! After our church ceremony, guests arrived at the Gale Mansion for a lovely cocktail hour on the main level. Guests truly enjoyed walking around the different rooms. After cutting the cake on the main level by the beautiful fireplace, everyone moved downstairs to the gorgeous ballroom area for the dinner and dance. Lastly, the Gale Mansion was terrific in helping to tear down all of our décor, as well as saving our gifts and other personal items for us to pick up the following day after our wedding.
Overall, my husband and I had an amazing wedding day thanks to the coordinator, and all of the staff at the Gale Mansion. Truly a WONDERFUL experience and would definitely recommend! -

Beautiful Wedding Venue
We had our wedding here in May 2021, and everything went great! Karen was a pleasure to work with! She was very responsive, and always answered all my questions! Even with special request for COVID precautions, she did a great job accommodating. I would definitely recommend Gale Mansion for your next wedding or other special event. Staff onsite the day of were all wonderful as well!-

Loved Gale Mansion for our wedding!
I had my wedding at Gale Mansion and I am SO happy we went with it. The inside is beautiful, the outside gorgeous. The director of catering, office manager and staff were such a pleasure to work with and on top of their game. The food was INCREDIBLE as well. All our guests were fed with top notch meals. Thank you Chef!
All in all, there's nothing about the mansion I would have changed. Thank you for housing the most beautiful day I have ever seen. -

Wonderful Day
We had an amazing experience at the Gale mansion. Jessie and Robyn were both amazing, they made navigating planning a wedding relatively easy. The day of the wedding went so smoothly too because of their assistance and attention to detail. I can’t say enough positive things about the Gale and the staff there. -

Gale Mansion
When we were looking for a wedding/reception venue, all anyone would do was give us a laundry list of things to buy and encourage us to spend beyond our means. Not so at the Gale Mansion. Jessie went above and beyond to not only fit our budget, but also to make the whole process as stress-free as a wedding can possibly be.
Jessie never disappointed in the planning stages of the wedding. She kept us on track with a thoughtful amount of check-ins (not constant, but not infrequent), and made every meeting a delightful experience. The tasting was amazing, and the chef was extremely willing to adapt the dishes based on our requests. Additionally, when we submitted the dietary restriction for our guests, every need was met without compromising the quality of the food.
The wedding itself was perfect--I didn't have to worry about a thing. Jessie made sure that I was on a predetermined schedule, and she walked us through everything seamlessly. Since we had fewer than 100 guests, we had the wedding upstairs and the reception downstairs. There was even a nice elevator for guests with mobility concerns.
Did I mention the venue was absolutely stunning? The candles at night looked magical in the elegant mansion. The furniture was ornate, and the ceilings were beautiful. That being said, the venue felt surprisingly home-y.
I have absolutely no regrets--my wedding was marvelous at the Gale Mansion. -

I worked with Jessie Kelly at the Gale Mansion for a brunch for my family and out-of-town guests.
Jessie was easy to work with and gave great suggestions for brunch menu items and set-up.
The staff who set up and servied were friendly, professional and timely.
Everyone enjoyed the brunch, the staff and the venue. -

The Gale Mansion has an amazing team. They took care of everything with speed and thoughtfulness. We were in great hands throughout the entire planning process, and especially on our wedding day. The food was fabulous, the space was amazing, the planning was stress free --- we felt well taken care of and special from day one. We can't imagine a better team, big hugs to Jessie, or a more beautiful place to get married. -

We held my daughter's wedding at Gale. Jessie and the entire staff were absolutely wonderful. Jessie made sure everything was ready and in place. She went above and beyond to make the day great and relaxing. The food was delicious and everyone had a blast. Since almost everything is included at Gale, it was actually a good value too! We even had guests that asked for info on Gale so they can have their wedding there! We would book an event there again in a heartbeat! -

Working with Gale was great! They were on the ball with all the details, despite a change in staff shortly before our wedding. Absolutely the best value for renting a historic house in the Twin Cities. The on-site catering and on-site baker were a huge plus. -

Our October 2015 wedding day was the best day of our lives! The whole planning process, rehearsal and wedding day went as smoothly as I could have ever hoped. I didn’t have to worry about a single thing on the day itself—except for not tripping down the aisle, of course! Amy and Amy Beth were very quick to respond to any questions we had and helped us plan our day every step of the way—in 3 months, no less! The short timeline was no issue at all. The Mansion is GORGEOUS, the food was wonderful and the staff was great. If you love "Old World Charm", and you are looking for more of an all-inclusive experience, Gale Mansion would be a great option for you. -

My husband and I could not have found a better venue for our wedding. Amy Beth and Amy Leh worked with us to create a wedding package that fit our budget and our personalities. The staff were friendly and professional, the food was phenomenal, and the atmosphere was perfect. You will be hard pressed to find a venue like this. -

The Gale was an amazing location for our ceremony and reception. These ladies know what they are doing. The food is fabulous and I would not have changed a thing. They walk you through everything and catered to our needs as we were from out of state. We were able to come in for the scheduling and tasting in one day and knock everything out. I did not worry once because they had everything covered and made sure everything went seamlessly. Love love love the Gale Mansion! -

Living in California and getting married in Minneapolis (my husband's home city) proved to be very challenging. I did all my research online months prior to our visit. Luckily, I was pretty sure I wanted a historical mansion as our wedding venue. I found several within the historical district of Minneapolis and after carefully considering each venue, I decided to visit Gale Mansion on our next trip to Minnesota, which was a year from our proposed wedding date. I was in contact with both Amy and Amy Beth, arranging a tour and a tasting. My husband and I were very pleased with the intimate and elegant ambiance of the place and the food was delicious. We were sold. Over the following year, we kept in brief contact regarding payment installments and random questions I had along the way. My emails were always answered promptly and they even sent me pictures upon request, reminding me of the layout. Our wedding was small (50 guests) so the main level ended up being the perfect amount of space. Several days before the wedding, I was able to drop by and show my closest friends the venue so they would be familiar as they were assisting me in a variety of ways on the wedding day. I was also able to drop off all my wedding gear the day before, which made arriving the day of smooth and unhurried. The day itself was wonderful and from my point of view, nearly flawless! (any minor hiccups were handled with ease between my friends and Amy and/or Amy Beth.) Thank you Gale Mansion! -

The Gale Mansion was absolutely perfect for my daughter's ceremony and reception. The building itself is elegant and stately, and was just the right size for 150-160 guests. It was a joy to work with Amy and Amy Beth: both are extremely helpful, responsive and professional, and the entire planning process could not have been more enjoyable. This is especially impressive because the bride and groom live in Chicago. The setting for the outdoor ceremony was lovely, and the transitions to reception/cocktail hour on the first floor, then dinner and dancing in the ballroom were exceptionally smooth. Guests had many compliments on the decor, food, and beverages, and the caterer and baker did a great job of accomodating our gluten-free requests. We're very grateful that the ceremony, reception and dinner were all handled by Gale Mansion staff, which greatly simplified our decision-making and enabled us to relax and enjoy the celebration. I heartily recommend the Gale Mansion as a wedding venue. -

Picking our venue was one of the hardest decisions we had to make for our wedding but picking the Gale Mansion was by far one of the BEST decisions we made. Amy and Amy, the 2 fantastic women who run the show there, made our wedding absolutely flawless. They made us feel so comfortable about our wedding day, carefully walking us through the day and making sure to take care of every single little detail (like taking care of our gifts, feeding all of the kids early so there were no meltdowns, getting a sewing kit for my dad after his pants split, etc). The staff and servers were so respectful, kind, attentive and overall amazing. I have heard horror stories of family members having to stay for hours after a wedding ends to clean up and take care of leftover items at the wedding venue but the staff at the Gale Mansion did basically all of this for us so everyone could enjoy themselves. If you want a beautiful, hassle free, and amazing venue I HIGHLY recommend the Gale Mansion. -

We couldn't have asked for a more unique, perfect venue for our wedding. Amy and Amy were so easy to work with, and our special day went off without a hitch. Their staff did a phenomenal job, and I was confident that they would which left me to enjoy my wedding without worrying about the details. We had so many compliments from attendees after the wedding about how much fun they had and how much they loved the venue. -

The Gale Mansion is truly an amazing place to have a wedding! I can't express in words how thankful I was to Amy & Amy in charge of my special day! The staff at the mansion was also amazing from the food to the wait staff. The professionalism and personal time they gave me went above and beyond. I had my wedding inside upstairs and then my reception downstairs in the ballroom. The space was intimate, yet plenty of room for my guests and loved having the rooms upstairs to get ready in. I feel truly blessed that I picked the Gale Mansion. My guest list was around 100 and it was perfection at this venue. Thank you to the Gale Mansion and their fabulous staff!!! -

I highly recommend this venue not only for the beautiful setting but for the outstanding food and amazing staff. The event manager Amy L. Was awesome! When we had a question or concern she handled it immediately. We had a morning wedding with a breakfast buffet that turned over to a lunch buffet later in the day. This was their first breakfast buffet they had done and you would have never known it. It was fantastic and so was lunch. The venue was a perfect backdrop for a wedding it was gorgious -

We held our wedding reception at the Gale Mansion in October 2013 and are amazed at how happy we are with our entire experience. From the moment we toured the Gale Mansion we knew it was a perfect fit; the gorgeous vintage (but never stuffy) interiors and detailing, cozy atmosphere, unique dinnerware, and the friendly and informative staff who were genuinely interested in tailoring our day to make it perfect. The price was right in our budget, and the planners there were so thoughtful about making sure we felt comfortable with the cost of our event. They did not snark when we decided to remove a few elements for cost saving efforts, and were happy to tailor some extra special details just for us.
My now-husband and I wanted an event that had a cozy, Minnesota feel and the team at the Gale created a delicious menu (complete with pie pops in the shape of Minnesota, s'mores desserts, and locally brewed beers) that exceeded our expectations. Our food was delicious, the staff decorated the entire event to our specifications perfectly, and they packed everything up carefully so it was ready to go at the end of the night. Honestly, the level of service could have easily cost twice as much as it does at the Gale. Just the fact that they packed up all the décor for us at the end of the night made it worth it! I can't imagine having to deal with that the day after getting married, as many places require you to take care of your own décor clean up.
Overall we are extremely satisfied with our experience with the Gale Mansion. From the moment we started planning, Amy and her team were exceptionally informative, organized, friendly, and genuinely happy to be a part of our event and gave sincere and honest advice. The Gale Mansion is such a unique venue that it would surely make any wedding or reception stand out. And the price was just right; the bar bill received after the wedding didn't even scare us too much! -

Not only did they make the day incredibly easy for me (handled everything perfectly and helped to organzie all the other vendors), but all of my guests raved about the food and service for weeks after. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone who is looking to get married in the Twin Cities area! -

We highly recommend that you choose The Gale Mansion for your wedding or special event. Gale Mansion staff, Amy and Amy Beth, were a delight to work with. They were so helpful in making the mansion our home for our wedding. The beautiful and relaxed environment was perfect was the right tone for our guests, who marveled at the many rooms. The food was phenomenal as was the wedding cake and cupcakes. Like us, so many of our guests praised the food. The mansion staff and valet parking were friendly and accommodating. It was a mystical, magical day and evening at the mansion. It was so perfect we want to get married there again! -

I highly recommend the Gale mansion for a wedding venue. Everything went more perfectly than we could have imagined for our August 17th wedding. The venue is elegant and beautiful and staff including Amy and Amy Beth were great to work with. Amy was very responsive and upbeat during the planning stages. She had a lot of helpful suggestions. The two rooms upstairs for bridal party to use to get ready were really handy. We hired make-up and hair people to go to the Gale so the bridal was able to ready together there. We had an outdoor ceremony and it was magical. The food was delicious and the wait staff and valet were very professional. We had about 95 people on the main floor. The space was perfect for that size group. It was cozy and intimate but not too crowded. After dinner, we had a dance with a live, five-person band (Cafe Accordion orchestra). The dance floor was a perfect size and people danced until the very end. We received many compliments from guests that it was on of the most elegant and fun weddings they've attended. I researched many, many venues before choosing the Gale mansion and I'm thrilled with our choice. -

When I was looking for a venue, I wanted to have a unique and elegant space. After looking at many other mansions and venues in the twin cities, the Gale Mansion was the perfect fit. Through all the planning, Amy was quick to respond and was always willing to accommodate my requests.(We did work with a previous coordinator, and when she left we were appropriately informed and all of our planning with her was accurately passed on to Amy, so it didn't even feel like there had been any changes!) She went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. So many of our 120 guests told us how they were amazed by the beauty of the Gale Mansion and how wonderful the food and staff were. People kept on asking "How did you find this place?" It really is a hidden gem. We were able to get dressed at the Gale mansion and do some pictures there before our ceremony which was off site. The Gale is the perfect backdrop for pictures so it is really nice that you have the space from noon on. Everyone raved about the cocktail hour. I think it is so nice to have the whole main floor for people to walk around and explore (and not feel crowded!) and I heard that the appetizers were outstanding. The bartenders quickly learned people's drinks of choice and had it made for them when they walked up. The fact that all the beer was great, local brands was really appreciated by both my out of town and in town guests. We used the ballroom for dinner and dancing and our guests loved that they were small tables of 6 so they could talk more. Some of my family and friends could be considered food critics, but all I heard about our wedding was that the food, service, and venue were all amazing. The Gale Mansion was easily the best decision I made in the whole wedding planning process and I would recommend it to anyone! -

We were so happy we chose the gale mansion. The staff was great. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. They really helped me with the stress of planning. The only complaint was that we couldn't bring our own food for before the wedding when we were getting ready and the food they offered was very expensive. -

We decided on the Gale Mansion because we had attended a wedding there a couple of years prior to our daughter's wedding but had no idea just how wonderful our experience would be. First of all, the venue is just beautiful. If you are looking for a everything under one roof venue, the Gale Mansion is the perfect place. We had about 140 guests and fit very comfortably. Our plans for an outdoor ceremony changed with a downpour, but the incredible staff went into action to bring it inside. I must add that the staff, specifically the catering manager, Amy Leh and her assistant Amy Beth were amazing. All of our questions were answered and concerns laid to rest. They were both professional and fun to work with. The food was delicious. We received many, many positive comments from our guests about the event. My daughter and her new husband loved every minute of their Gale Mansion wedding. -

We had a formal wedding with 150 guests. We got ready at Gale Mansion, had our ceremony at our nearby church, then held our reception at Gale Mansion. We planned our wedding in ten weeks and booked this venue about 8-9 weeks before our wedding.
During our planning and preparation, we found the folks at Gale Mansion easy to work with. They were professional, nice, approachable and laid back. They easily accommodated our guests' food intolerances and dietary preferences. They found and executed recipes for our signature drinks.
Our reception was BEAUTIFUL. Just beautiful. The mansion itself is a beautiful backdrop. The food was excellent. Everything flowed really well there. I haven't yet heard one word of complaint about the venue.
After the wedding, I have heard from our guests over and over how good the food was and how beautiful the setting was. They liked our signature drinks. The stage downstairs is awesome for live music and dancing! -

I was married September 17, 2016 at the Gale Mansion; it was the best night of my life which is exactly how your wedding night should be. A few factors played into the night being flawless: the mansion was beautiful, the guests were fun, my husband was perfect but most importantly the Gale Mansion team, specifically Amy and Jessie, ensured everything went smoothly. There are so many small details you have to think about when you plan your wedding, worrying about the team behind your venue should not be one of them. Between checking in on us getting ready, bringing appetizers after the ceremony and ushering us to keep on schedule, the ladies make our night a success. They are experienced, honest and fun which I don't think you can ask for more in a venue or a team behind it. -

Our wedding at the Gale Mansion was absolutely beautiful--many said, the best wedding they had ever been to. We had a morning ceremony outside, with breakfast and lunch served inside. Though they had never served a breakfast before, they were more than willing to try, and the food was absolutely SPECTACULAR. My husband and I live out of state, but Amy made coordinating the wedding an absolute dream. She answered all my questions in a timely manner, she was extremely flexible, and was totally available for whatever we needed.
The slight ding on professionalism is due to staff putting out boxes for cleaning up a half hour before the end of the event, near the front entrance where people could see them as they were leaving. I said something about it as soon as I saw it, and they were cleared out within a minute. The only other negative was that we found several electrical outlets did not work in the bridal suite, making the hairstyling somewhat complicated. I would recommend bringing a power strip.
I would have my wedding at the Gale Mansion again in a heartbeat! They exceeded our expectations, and really were the epitome of quality, value, and class. -

The Gale was wonderful! It is a beautiful venue and great if you are looking for a venue that has character. Angela was great to work with, she always knew the details of my wedding and was very helpful in answering my questions especially in the weeks before the wedding. The staff on my wedding day were great as well, they were very prompt with switching the room from the ceremony to the reception which itself was a last minute change since we were originally having the reception outside but moved it inside due to the weather. The staff was very professional and unobtrusive, and our day of coordinator was very helpful, they took care of all of the details and only came to us with pertinent questions. The Gale Mansion was a wonderful place for my wedding, I couldn't be happier with the way our day went and the Gale Mansion was an integral part of our day being great. -

Our daughter's wedding was perfect. As mother of the bride I had no stress what so ever. It was beautiful and the staff was amazing. The only reason I gave it a 4.5 at all was due to a mix up with the price of the champagne that was ordered and the number of bottles that were in the case. The Gale Mansion staff compromised and made up for it in a way that was fair. It was truly the best wedding I had ever been to and not because it was our daughter's. Highly recommend this venue. -

Bree did an EXCELLENT job in coordinating our wedding. We are still getting compliments on the venue and the warm, homelike atmosphere it had. We could not have the ceremony outside as planned because of the weather, but I loved how Bree and company decorated the ballroom as the backup location for the wedding. It was very simple, but beautiful. I think it worked out better than if we'd had the ceremony outside as initially planned.
I have nothing but good things to say about the wait staff and catering staff. The service was not lacking and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the Gale Mansion. -

We considered our reception location very carefully, and were so so happy that we chose the Gale. We loved being in a place that felt like a grand home, having great food, great drinks, and being taken care of completely. Bree and her staff were so accommodating and open to our ideas and suggestions while also having recommendations based on previous experience. -

We had our reception at the Gale Mansion. It was superb. Sarah is the new coordinator (as of early 2011, I believe) and is WONDERFUL to work with. I would definitely recommend the Gale to Minneapolis brides who want a unique, historic and classy venue with great food.
We wanted a reception venue that people would remember, not just a big hotel ballroom. The Gale fit that perfectly -- it makes you feel like you're having your reception in someone's home. It's already decorated with woodwork, fireplaces, interesting carpets, etc. -- so you really don't have to do any decorating on your own if you don't want to, which was a selling point for us! We loved the location, too, next to a big park with lots of green space and trees.
We used the main floor (not the newly-renovated ballroom), which I think is the more historic and interesting place to be. The only downside to using the main floor is that if you have more than ~100 guests, you'll have to put folks in more than one room for dinner. It's not ideal, but it works. There is a sound-system so people can hear what's going on in the main room. The dance floor worked perfectly for us -- I actually preferred it to the big ballroom dance floors you typically see. It's cozy and fun.
And, last but not least, the food. The food is all made in-house and is FANTASTIC. The beef tenderloin was just outstanding. A great space with great food! -

I was very pleased with the Gale Mansion. The staff were helpful during the all stages of working with them. We were able to attend two open houses (and bring 2 guests with us both times) to sample their delicious foods and desserts. The provided us with (accurate) price estimates for our guest numbers, which was helpful for our budgeting. Lindsey was so great about answering any and all questions that I had over my year of planning and would respond to my e-mails/calls the same day.
The food was great and so easy not to have to deal with an outside person (as they do all the cooking there).
Beware: they did keep half of our security deposity because they caught guests bring in their own liquor. -

Classy without feeling stuffy, and definitely fulfilled our goal of avoiding the blank slate, modern lighting, white-walled hotel ballroom/event venue. My wife and I really wanted a place with texture, that would be unique (which conveniently means you have to decorate less).
The planning team here was incredibly friendly, helpful, and responsive. For an out of town wedding reception such as ours, the Gale Mansion made for a streamlined planning experience that produced a wonderful event.
The venue itself was very interesting in its own right, and only a few little touches were needed to make the space feel like it was our own. The food was wonderful, and the pastries were better. The staff were accomodating, but since the catering is done in-house and building is unique, this might not be the venue for control freaks who need to be consulted on every detail. For the more laid-back (or out-of-towners, like us), it was perfect. -

We had our Ceremony and Reception here last November. The food was FANTASTIC! We ended up having appetizers being passed around for the meal. I received so many compliments on the food.. not to mention the atmosphere at the mansion. Very intimate & romantic. The unique historical feel to the mansion cannot be duplicated. -

We LOVED the Gale Mansion as our venue for the wedding. We really liked the antique rustic feel which brought a lot of character to our wedding. We also didn't need a lot of decorations as the venue is beautiful in itself. A storm had blown through which knocked out the power for the entire evening, however, the Gale Mansion team ordered generators, had a back up plan for everything that we didn't even sweat or stress out...they took care of everything to make our day extremely memorable and fun! :) -

We had an absolute BLAST at our wedding (as did our friends and family!). The ONLY reason we left out a star on quality of service was that they ran out of one of our food choices for guests even though we had given them the numbers for each meal. Otherwise the quality of the food, cupcakes, and service was fantastic. Sarah was also super helpful the day of and we didn't have to worry about a thing. Get married here, you won't regret it. The Gale Mansion provided a comfortable and classy location for our wedding and reception. They have in-house catering, and we received tons of compliments on the food. I had the butternut squash ravioli and was quite satisfied. I appreciated their assistance with set-up and tear-down, though I wish we'd been able to stay longer (party was over at 11:45pm). The space was a perfect size for our group (120 people). I appreciated that they had multiple options on several things, like the types of chairs for the outdoor ceremony, and let us hang things outside. They did charge for every little thing (microphone inside and out, etc.), so our estimated cost was a few hundred below our actual cost, and since we booked the location over a year ahead of time, the food cost went up from our initial contract. All in all, however, I found it to be a great personal staff who promptly responded to emails and there was no drama with any of the services on the night of the big event. And, as a bonus, since it's such a beautiful building, we had mininmal decorations, just flowers on the tables and a fabric swag outside. -

I'm fairly neutral. I really don't like how some guests have to eat in seperate rooms, it really didn't help our party flow. The dancefloor is squished. But we didn't plan our wedding early enough, so all the larger good spaces were taken. The mansion has a beautiful look on the outside and inside, but it just not made for parties over 70 or so. The bar closed early, and my guests felt rushed at dinner and they started taking tables down and setting up for another event before my reception was done. The coordinator was very nice and easy to work with, but there are a LOT of rules. -

The Gale Mansion is gorgeous! However, the staff at the Gale is not so gorgeous. At first, the assistant coordinator, Lindsay (No longer there) was very helpful and prompt. At our last meeting, we met with the head coordinator, Angela at the Gale. Angela was not friendly and unaware of what we've already planned months and months before. Even if the assistant didn't give or any records to view, that shouldn't happen. I have saved all of my emails with the Gale and with Lindsay with records what we wanted for our wedding. At our final meeting, Angela should have been aware. In fact before our last meeting I had sent an email to Lindsay's preparing what we wanted and confirming times and Angela was the one who responded. She should have known. The meeting was a waste of our time and we felt unsure about having our event there.
The wedding day arrived. Again, Angela was not welcoming nor friendly. At the time of planning, I was told (and at the last meeting) that we could only invite 120 people for the ceremony. On the day of the wedding, I walked in and Angela pointed at extra chairs for the 150 guest count which was after the ceremony. I was furious! Not only I was unaware that I could have invited some our guests to the ceremony and how dumb it looked that we had all those seats and none of them were used!
After the wedding, I was told not only by my husband but also by my family members that the 35 dollars an hour security guard was hitting on our guests and talking about the drugs he does. In the meanwhile not looking after the building. You would think a beautiful mansion like the Gale would have more professional personnel however that is not the case.
I would only recommend the Gale if there was different management and staff. Otherwise it was a beautiful place. -

Think twice
I would seriously think twice about booking at the Gale Mansion.
Unless you are hiring your own outside full-time wedding planner or day-of-coordinator, I think its best to work with a more professional venue with a full staff. Most of the reviews you see for Gale are years old and before the property was sold and gained new management. Now, there seems to be only one person there who doesn’t appear to have any experience in weddings.
The communication is extremely poor. After I booked, I would go months at a time without getting any response from them. In the weeks leading up to my wedding, I hadn’t heard from them in over a month despite repeated emails and phone calls. Eventually, since I don’t live in state, a family member had to show up at the venue and wait for someone to arrive so that she could explain that my wedding was just weeks out and that we needed various things from them.
Even when we did get in touch, we drafted our own mock up of the dining room and table arrangement, I created my own schedule of the day, communicated with each vendor about when they should arrive and who they should contact, and more. We ended up renting separate linens and other items that were supposed to get through our booking with Gale because we weren’t sure if they would be able to deliver.
They require that you get your catering through the venue, but then canceled our tasting after we flew in for it and subsequently canceled the catering altogether and told us to get outside vendor. This was maybe four or five months out from the wedding and many vendors were booked. I did ask or a partial refund at that time but was denied. While extremely stressful, if you do host your wedding at Gale I highly recommend getting an outside caterer. Fork & Flair were life savers—not only was the food amazing and reasonably priced, but they were the only professionals helping during my reception.
Fork and Flair absolutely went above and beyond—when someone broke a vase during cocktail hour, it was the servers who found a broom to clean it up. I was later told that at times no Gale Mansion staff were at the venue at all during the wedding, leaving my vendors to fend for themselves. I’m not sure how the reception would have gone without them.
When we finally did get a hold of the venue in the days leading up to my wedding, I asked about their coordination—as they promote and told us a DOC comes with the venue when you book—but was told they really don’t help decorate, or much else leading up to the wedding. I had all the final calls with my vendors without the mansion and planned the entire day myself. And then, I also had to bring in outside help to lay the flowers, light candles and more since the mansion refused to help with that.
Moreover, when we arrived to set up the day before the wedding (something that was difficult to set up—they repeatedly offered to give us only an hour) I found that we had to pull everything out or storage and set it up ourselves. Myself and my family set up all the tables and chairs, laid the linens and more. I do not think it would’ve gotten done if I hadn’t persistently insisted they let us come the day before and for several hours.
I will say, it is a beautiful and historic venue. And it is more affordable than some others in the Twin Cities, but that’s essentially because the extent of what they offer is the space and unlocking the doors. We did save money by hosting our wedding there, they allowed us to get in early to use the suites upstairs to get ready. And my guests were able to spread it out since we had the entire mansion to ourselves and we had it for the entire day (which was unique as compared with other venues). That being said, I’m not sure if I’d do it again.
Even after the wedding, my family was set to go back the next day to clean up and to grab the rented linens and decor we’d bought. They were told two different times to arrive by two separate staff members. When they’d arrived everything was dumped on the floor, some things were broken and they were unsure they retrieved it all.
Overall, it’s a beautiful place and I really treasure the day and the photos but I cannot express how much more stressful wedding planning was made by hosting it at Gale. They are impossible to get a hold of, and they can’t deliver the services they advertise—or even the ones they require you to partake in (like catering). If you’ve booked here I would hire someone fast, or be prepared to treat planning like your full time job. -
