We met John at a wedding expo and right off the bat he won us over with his charisma and fun personality. We thought we were hiring a DJ but ended up with a combination emcee, master of ceremonies, and friend who worked hard to make our wedding/reception exactly what we wanted. For the ceremony I requested splicing of a few songs and John made the timing work for our walk down the aisle perfectly. My now-husband and I have a very broad group of family/friends, and their music tastes/requests reflect that. For the cocktail hour & reception John beautifully and seamlessly weaved together wedding classics, pop hits, country, pop punk, ranchero, and reggaeton via our request. The transitions between the songs and genres were AMAZING and the dance floor was packed for almost every song. Probably our favorite part (other than the great music) was his unique offering of retelling our "love story" from both our vantage points -- and our guests loved it too. John goes above and beyond and we're so glad to have hired him for our day.

We couldn’t have asked for a better DJ than John for our wedding! From start to finish, he absolutely nailed the vibe we were going for. Friendly and most helpful DJ
John had been recommended by one of my friends that got married 10 years ago. My daughter Caroline and her husband Zachary were going to compile a Spotify playlist and had a person picked out that was going to act as the DJ for their wedding. After my friend recommended John, I got in touch with him and I am so glad that we ended up hiring him! He has a questionnaire for the couple with songs that they wanted him to play and also a "do not play" list. John was so helpful from the pre-wedding zoom meetings until the end of the wedding last Sunday, 11/12/23. John is not just a DJ that plays music. He is a fabulous entertainer! He told Caroline and Zachary's "love story" (how they met and their first date) and nothing seemed to phase him. If there was a miscommunication or somebody was not ready for the next segment of the wedding, John masterfully played some funny tunes to entertain us. The biggest compliment we received from one of the friends of the groom was: "I wanted to sit down and take a break but the DJ plays one hit song after another and I just gotta dance!"

A true professional
Having worked in the wedding industry it was difficult to not suggest vendors when my daughter got engaged. HOWEVER, there was one vendor that was a no-brainer. John Haskins with Friendly Neighborhood DJ was the only call we would make for DJ/Emcee. He is a true professional while still providing a fun and lively service. By the way, most of both sides of the family.... not dancers. If he can get THAT CROWD on their feet, then he's worth every penny. He's the best!

John is the absolute BEST!!! He is detail-oriented, energetic, great at his job, and just an overall awesome person. He truly is a Master of Ceremonies! I can't tell you how many people came up to me throughout the night saying how amazing and engaging John was-- people are still asking me where we found him! The whole night was specifically tailored to us as a couple, whether it was the hilarious bridal party entrances, the Love Story he told before our first dance to share with the crowd our journey that led us to our wedding day, the tear jerking mother-son dance where he interviewed my husband about his mom and played that throughout their song, or the "moment alone" he created for us at the end of the night. John is an incredible DJ because he is a master of ceremonies and creates a flow and timeline that makes your night incredibly memorable. He adds things that other Djs don't (like the love story) and has a professional but super fun vibe that he brings to the event! John came in a suit and tie that matched the bridal party and was very prepared for everything. Then once the music came on people couldn't get off the dance floor!! Fantastic, highly customized experience
John did an incredible job at our wedding! We had a fairly atypical crowd (lots of disabled folks) and John was able to customize our night so that everyone was able to participate, even if they weren’t actually able to dance! He also was totally fine changing up our first dance song literally 45 seconds before it happened (I was much more tired than I anticipated being by then, and needed a slower song) and the whole evening went off without a hitch. He also did a great job incorporating toasts throughout the night. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

He's Great.
John did an outstanding job with our wedding on October 20, 2018. We actually found out about FNDJ because he was the DJ at a wedding we attended. We wanted an intimate feel and he was able to bring that to life. Simply put, John was amazing. He was the first DJ that we interviewed, and he set the bar really high from the get go. He ended up exceeding all of our expectations. He was personable and our guests were so impressed and we had a lot of them come up to tell us. He kept everything on track as well as communicating to our guests what was going on. We didn't have to worry about anything. His musical transitions from song to song were some of the smoothest we've experienced. Hands down the BEST DJ we could have asked for. The love story is simply unique and a very cool idea, it adds a special touch to such a special day. John was very involved and made sure our guests were having a good time! He provided up lighting and a photo booth as well! The photo booth was a total hit and I would recommend this for any wedding! I couldn’t imagine our wedding with any other DJ other then John. When looking for DJs the prices may scare you a little BUT you get what you pay for and he’s DEFINITELY worth every single penny! We also had a “private dance” after the last dance for our guests. The private dance gave us a chance to be one on one with no one around but my husband and I. We visited our local wedding shows and found John. We decided we wanted him as our DJ as soon as we heard him speak! We didn't actually get to chat with him at first because he was so popular. John made our wedding process flow efficiently. He was extremely professional and knew the wedding industry. He was able to advise us on order of events, timeline and other wedding details. I am so glad we had him on our team. Planning a wedding is very stressful. Having a helping hand makes it a little easier. John came out to assist with our wedding rehearsal and also joined us afterwards for brunch. He played games with my husband and I, and even the entire family! It was so much fun! Our ceremony and reception music was executed very well. John listened to what we wanted and turned our vision into reality. I never once had to question anything. It was a beautiful wedding! And by the end of the night, John was on the dancefloor with us! He even gave me the mic for an impromptu singing session with my maid of honor! All our guests have questioned who he is because he is an outstanding DJ! He is the Master!! We will reccomend him to anyone we know who needs a DJ. John literally made our wedding reception! I cannot say enough about his services. He was very professional, listened to our requests, and honored those requests at our wedding. One very special thing that he shared at our wedding was our love story. This was such a unique aspect of our wedding reception that many of our guests loved! In fact, some of our guests are still commenting on what an awesome DJ we had! John goes above and beyond the responsibilities of a Master of Ceremonies and exceeds all expectations. John brought the party. Cody and I knew right away when we met him that we knew he would be the right guy for us. He made every detail personal. Our love story was a hit and such a clever idea. We had great laughs during the newlywed game, and I had no idea he was going to tell us the history of the cake cutting during that time! It was awesome! Every song you played felt like it was pulled from our own music library, and as the night went on, you remixed it all up and kept the dance floor alive! It was THE BEST party ever because you got everyone, young and old, on the floor. Even John danced with us a couple times, and jumped in the photobooth. I can't tell you how many people told us he was the best wedding dj they had ever seen. There was never a boring or dull moment. John made sure everyone was taken care of. Look no further... First and foremost, John is the man. He is not only an incredible DJ, but he also helped us plan the intricacies of our wedding that we were unprepared for. One of his other reviews calls him master of ceremonies, and that is the perfect phrase to describe him. He planned and made our rehearsal dinner and wedding better than we could have ever imagined. Every single one of my friends and family said that was the most fun and original wedding experience they had ever seen, and they wanted Johns info for their big day. We cannot recommend John enough! We recently had him DJ our wedding and he had everyone on the dance floor from the beginning of the reception until the end. Never once was there an awkward pause or moment. He was very attentive during our special moments and knew exactly when a song should end or when he needed to let it play out.
Not only is he crazy talented, he also was extremely helpful with any questions we had and providing his own ideas. He ensured we got exactly what we wanted! John adds his own unique touch to all his events. If you are in need of a DJ, you must give him a call!

John met with us several times before the big day and was very accommodating and professional. He was walked us through different announcement, music, and traditional options; which was helpful because neither of us had ever planned a wedding before and really appreciated the direction. John made sure all parties were on the same page and was understanding of any concerns.
The day of, he was great! Our wedding party was like herding cats and he did a wonderful job of announcements, and making sure everyone was in the right place at the right time. Our guests loved him. He made all the everyone feel welcome and appreciated to be made part of our big day!
Overall everyone enjoyed themselves at our wedding and most importantly our dance floor was full the whole time!

John knocked this ball long and gone out of the park! We got so many compliments on how awesome our Love Story was and how funny the intros for the wedding party's were. Not to mention he did a great job from a musical standpoint from start to finish. Sound and quality were awesome. He's a true MC and that's what you need at a wedding. My wife and I were more than pleased. The Love story brings families and friends together and its an awesome experience. My mother and I chopped two songs together to welcome everyone to the dance floor and John had everyone surprised. John was prompt and professional during the whole process. We also used the up lighting his wife did which added to the overall ambiance of the night. My wife and I were looking for a DJ for our wedding (specifically, someone to handle music during our reception) and got the name of Friendly Neighborhood DJ through the grapevine. We liked the reviews we read and decided to contact him. And I have to say, John is deserving of his 20+ 5-star reviews. From the outset we were impressed. What impressed us the most is that in our first meeting with him, we didn't talk about music for a playlist once - it may sound crazy/odd, but it highlighted how much more we actually wanted in a DJ than just music. Songs/music are already out there - your special day is still in the making and it's a lifesaver to have someone whose focus is you and whose services are more than just a playlist. John was just as outstanding on the day of our wedding as he was leading up to it. He arrived on time and prepared. He mic'd our ceremony and the sound was flawless. The introductions were a hit, the love story was magical and the dance floor was filled with great tunes. Cannot recommend him enough!!

John is very professional and does his job well -- but better yet, he genuinely has fun and has a huge heart. John listened to our ideas, provided feedback and suggestions based on his experience and our tastes, and really worked with us to craft the perfect day. You may have heard something about John's signature "Love Story" aspect for weddings. So...let me tell you about my boy John. This guy has THE personality YOU NEED at your wedding. I am not even joking. John is so energetic and creative. You want the chicken dance at your reception? You got it. You hate that new song that every one else loves on the radio? Guess what? Let John know and he will not play that song. Even if it gets requested by one of your guests....he will not play it. He has your back, believe me. If you have a vision for your wedding, share every bit of your ideas with him. John was really awesome about taking my ideas to the next level and incorporating what he was able to do with my vision I had for my wedding. It meshed so perfectly & really made my reception very unique and personalized. He listens to you & doesn't try to change what you want out of your special day. Unlike other "DJ's", John is so much more. He's really a Master of Ceremonies. When I say Master, I mean it. He knows what he's doing. He will get that grumpy old lady in the back of the room on that dance floor. John himself will get on the dance floor (he has awesome dance moves by the way). If you hire any 'ol DJ, all they're going to do is play a song...ok song is over....hit the next button. You can do that with a speaker and your Ipod. John is so much more than that. He will be one of your best decisions when it comes to choice made for your wedding (next to your future spouse of course ;)). You won't be disappointed at all, whatsoever. PLUSSSSS, his wife is SUPER cool. We were able to use her services for some of the lighting in our reception. She had purple uplights which REALLY popped the decor we had around the room. Before our wedding, when people asked what we were most excited about, we always said "our dj" and John did not disappoint! From our first meeting with John, we knew he was exactly what we wanted for our wedding. Our goal was to make this a memorable event for EVERYONE, not just the two of us. We wanted it to be about all of the friends and family we invited and John was the perfect person to create that atmosphere. He was so kind, genuine and helpful in the process. He clearly puts in a lot of time and effort into each couple that he works with. He makes sure he really gets to know the couple--their story, their friends and loved ones, their music preferences, their vision for the day--and he makes sure to fit into that vision. We loved hearing his creative bridal party introductions and our love story come to life. John provides such unique and unexpected services that the guests couldn't help but be engaged the entire night. During and after the wedding EVERY guest wanted to know where we found John and shared what an amazing experience he created. Not only did he go above and beyond with our out-of-the-box requests, he got right on the dance floor with the guests to pump them up and get them dancing. We couldn't be happier with how our night went and John played a HUGE role in that. John did an amazing job with our wedding! He wrote a beautiful love story that made me, my husband, and our guests tear up and laugh a lot! He orchestrated every minute of the reception and quickly solved sound issues during the ceremony. We met several times prior to our wedding and I think John did an awesome job incorporating our ideas and our needs for the reception. John is the best DJ ever! He was the DJ for my sister's wedding and did an amazing job. I knew he was the only option for mine and my now husband's wedding. He was helpful in suggesting songs for certain events and played our requested songs at the right times. He made the wedding a party and even got out on the dance floor and danced with guests. I truly could not express how much we loved John! He was truly an amazing DJ! If you are debating between DJ's or whether to use a band, look no more! John should be your choice! He went above and beyond and everyone is still talking about how great he was and it has been 5 years since our wedding! I would definitely use him again for any event! Friendly Neighborhood DJ, John Haskins, was the best part of our reception! He made our evening flow well, be fun and entertaining for our guests, and just overall a great party. We met with John a few times before our big day and this made all the difference. It wasn't about just the songs that we wanted him to play during our reception, it was about people really knowing our love story and having a good time during our reception at Starmount Country Club. We had several guests come up to us and my parents saying what a great job our DJ was doing. He did such a great job my sister used him at her reception in August 2014. I can't say enough about John with Friendly Neighborhood DJ. He had done my matron of honor's wedding a year before mine and I knew I wanted him to DJ my wedding. He really takes the time to get to know you as a couple and makes your wedding day exactly what you want. It didn't take John long at all to realize what dance music fit our party and kept everyone on the dance floor. I can't say enough about John's outstanding and professional work before and at my wedding. He took the time to meet and get to know each of us..twice, gathered lots of good information and put it all together perfectly. We had a great time and received so many compliments on his entertainment style. He really gave our day that special and unique touch that we will always remember.
One unique touch that he brought was our "Love Story", how we got to the wedding day. John asked us each to write our own and he then told the story to all our guests. It was a surprise to hear the music behind certain parts of the story like the eharmony theme (where we met) and Maggie May (the proposal song). We and our guests loved it! It was a great way to start our reception.

My husband and I couldn't have been happier hiring John as our DJ for our special day! He exceeded all of our expectations and made sure our hopes of making our wedding day fun for all of our guests became a reality! I really think that, without John, my wedding would have been a total snooze. He made sure to play music that everyone enjoyed, and he knew how to get everyone dancing! He has such a charming personality... he was made to do this, I think! He charges a little more than other DJ's, but with him, you know who you're working with. I've seen some companies just send someone out the day of the wedding, and it just doesn't fit right. You won't feel like that with John as your DJ!

When planning our wedding we thought entertainment was where we could save money. We even considered using an iPod in lieu of a DJ. After meeting with John we started to realize the importance of a Master of Ceremonies and decided to invest in entertainment.
Now that its all said and done we cant imagine NOT having John there. He orchestrated the entire night beautifully. From the ceremony music, to the wedding party introductions, and who could forget the presentation of the love story. All of his personal touches and interactions with our guests made a huge difference. He impressed us and our guests making our night even more memorable.
I would recommend scheduling a meeting just before the wedding to make sure all of the details are clear. We had a little hiccup during our first dance but none of our guests even noticed.

Great DJ for our special day
John was great as our dj. He is very friendly, professional and engaging. He listened to our ideas about the music we wanted and gave great input on how he has helped other couples and incorporating it into our wedding. He had ideas we like and went with that we hadn't thought of. We had complements after the wedding from our guests on how they enjoyed the music.

Awesome Wedding Dj!
All of our vendors for our wedding were truly wonderful but John from FNDJ was one of a kind! He made our day so special and so memorable. Thinking back to the first planning meeting with John he asked us what three words we would use to describe our day and we said Memorable, fun, and full of love. He did just that for us. Through his process he learned our love story and shared it on our wedding day. Our guests loved this and the wedding party intro. It helped give our guests a glimpse into our lives and into our friends lives which was really cool. If you are in search of a wedding Dj you should definitely meet with John. He is welcoming and flexible to the ideas you have and can help guide you and create the perfect ceremony and reception. So glad we choose him!

We used John for our DJ and his wife for the Firefly up lighting. AMAZING experience! My husband and I still talk about how greatly our expectations were exceeded! My cousin was one of my bridesmaids and was so impressed that she hired John for an important work event after the wedding. All I can say is that he is worth it and you won't be disappointed.

John was great. He's local, independent, and willing to listen. His primary goal is to figure out what you want. He did miss a few details, and he wasn't as helpful as I wanted in some areas -- ie, wanting advice on how things should go. He was willing to be flexible on the wedding night, although he seemed a little bit thrown. He was exceedingly professional, nice and easy to talk to, and did a great job DJing and keeping our party going!
