Brissa Sent on 08/29/2014Working with Crystal was easy and stress-free. Our communication was primarily via email and she was always very quick to respond. At first I was nervous about making so many changes throughout the process, but Crystal's approachable personality made me comfortable enough to send off an email every time a new idea popped into my wedding brain.
Even with lack of directions, they made it to our venue and hiked with all their supplies up to our rustic forest location. I should mention that there was no cellphone reception so they were pretty much hiking with nothing but a the placement of the sun and a prayer to guide them.
Crystal put together a schedule beforehand to make sure everyone had hair and makeup done in time. I ended up changing my hair style just hours before I was scheduled to walk down the aisle and Joanna was accommodating to my requests. The 2nd stylist they brought along was a favorite among our bridal party since many of them preferred her more "dramatic" makeup style-- I forgot her name, but brides going for a little more drama in their look look may want to ask about her.
The only glitch I would point out is that towards the end we had an issue with payment for some of the bridal party. Without cellphone reception, it was difficult to process credit card payments. They had to walk around the venue to try to get connected to the weak wifi signal. I can understand how this would be frustrating, but at the same time, it's important to keep in mind that, with limited resources available, as a professional, it was best at that point to make exceptions to bill those paying with a card at a later time, especially since really, no one was to blame. However, they grew noticeably frustrated and at the end, it was Joanna (the hair stylist) who finished my makeup. Granted, Joanna did well, but they seemed rather frustrated and left in a bit of a hurry which I do still think it was a bit unprofessional so I did take off a 1/2 star for it.Envy My MakeUp's reply:

You had told me that you didn't want any dramatic Make Up so I was following your lead. Our other Artist got heavy handed with the Make Up to keep your Bridal Party happy. I was actually worried about this since you requested on your questionnaire that you didn't want anyone to have dramatic Make Up so I'm glad it all worked out!
I'm so sorry that you thought we were upset about the payment and that we seemed unprofessional. We learned so much from your Wedding in the mountains. We have updated our contract so that it's helps alleviate the stress of paying us while your trying to get down that aisle. We were concerned about leaving a Wedding without payment since we had a similar incident occur when a Bride left her purse at home. We were happy to accept a payment at a later time but we didn't get paid. This is why we were nervous but not angry and we didn't mean to come across as unprofessional. Everyone looked beautiful and I hope your Wedding day was fabulous! Thanks again. -

User1857604 Sent on 10/10/2014Crystal and Joanna were really nice and seemed to be knowledgeable about hair and makeup, but I think they don’t customize makeup to each client per theme or face type. I would advise them exactly what you want and maybe bring some of your own makeup. As far as my own makeup, I did not like it. I felt uncomfortable but I don’t think they would've been able to fix it on a wedding time crunch. But other people, to include my brutally honest sister, swore I looked great. Same situation for my hair, I was pretty specific and it seemed like a simple request. My hair was just alright until it started falling apart at my dinner reception.Envy My MakeUp's reply:
I'm very sad to hear that you were unhappy. We work hard to make sure that everyone is happy. I wish I knew who this was so I could personally learn from the experience but you've decided to remain anonymous. I really wish you had said something on your Wedding day because we always have enough time for changes. And we would NEVER leave a Wedding until everyone feels beautiful.
As far as the customization of our Make Up and Hair goes - I gotta say that over 90% of Brides have a certain look that they've got their hearts set on. We try our best to replicate but not every style of Make Up is suited to every face nor every Hairstyle. We try our best to help guide Brides towards a look/style that is more fitted to them but some Brides are persistent or not open to trying new things. I have no problem creating a customized look based on the Bride if they allow it. It's a difficult balance between giving the customer what they want and what they should have.
I'm glad that you've taken the time to give us some criticism which we can learn from and grow. Thank you and I'm sincerely sorry that you weren't 100% happy.
