Booking Dj Paul for our wedding in Jan 2017 was one of the best (maybe the top) decision we made in planning! We had originally booked a local band but after many communication efforts and frustrations, we decided to go another route. From the very beginning, I felt completely at ease working with DJ Paul. He showed an incredible level of professionalism. Email communication was extremely quick and everything was perfectly documented. For our ceremony, we booked all the sound systems with DJ Paul for my brother to perform with his ukelele. All worked surprisingly well considering we were next to the ocean and there was a heavy breeze. Once the reception started, it was impossible to get us off the dance floor! Dj Paul followed all of our music requests and added his own touch which blended nicely. This was very important to me as I wanted to make sure to accommodate both my culture (Venezuelan) and my husband's (American). I will be forever thankful for the amazing job that was done. I still hear our wedding playlist and reminisce every moment from our special night. I dream that someday we can have an anniversary party in Vieques and book DJ Paul again!!
My thoughts and prayers go out to this beautiful island that has given me the memories of a lifetime

DJ Paul was a pleasure to work with during our April 2016 wedding at the W Vieques. He was very easy to get in touch with during the planning and provided very detailed forms that allowed us to specify our music selections for the ceremony and reception to ensure that the right music was played which set my mind at ease during the planning process. He provided our audio and music for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception and everything was absolutely wonderful! He was an excellent DJ and couldn't recommend him more for anyone getting married in Vieques, Puerto Rico!!

We went into our wedding thinking we could just do an iPod playlist. However, as we got closer to event, we just ran out of time and also didn't want to put this on any of our friends. Two days before the wedding, we asked our contact at the W in Vieques to recommend a DJ and she introduced us to Paul. He came to meet with us the next day to plan for the ceremony music and reception music. After that meeting, we felt a weight was lifted off our shoulders!

The music was great in both the ceremony and reception. My guests loved the music and danced the night away. We were so happy to have Paul work with us for our wedding - I just wish we would have booked him earlier so that we weren't stressed about this detail going into the week!

DJ Paul was great! He played all the songs we requested. I liked that DJ Paul provided a list of questions for us to document specifically which songs we wanted and when we wanted the played. We were able to talk before the wedding so I could go through the forms and ensure that the two of us were in sync in regards to what we wanted during the ceremony and the reception. We set up a dropbox file share where I could share songs or specific mixes I wanted to make sure he had and some international music that would be difficult for him to find.
He was flexible and worked well with us! We enjoyed working with him. He was professional and easy going! Enjoyed working with Paul.

My wife and I got married at the W in Vieques last week. The event was spectacular with the exception of DJ Paul who threatened to ruin our event by showing up 15 minutes after the ceremony start time (which we paid additional fees to have him cover so we would have access to his microphone and audio equipment) and by failing to follow the run of events we had discussed and agreed upon previously. For instance, we asked him to play a particular song as we were announced, followed by the first dance and then to go right into party music so people would stay dancing until dinner. Instead, he introduced us with no music, then played the intro song which I had to ask him to cut so we could dance to our first dance (rather than a fun party song) and then he asked everyone to be seated (rather than playing fun music) which required the kitchen to rush dinners out because otherwise there was no reason for our guests to be seated. To make matters worse, instead of apologizing, I got an email from DJ Paul the next morning asking for additional fees for items we discussed earlier in the week at which time he made no mention of additional charges. All in all, DJ Paul was a disaster. In fact, the next day my uncle said "Wow, seems like the only detail you missed was the dj. Everything else was so perfect but somehow he slipped through the cracks"; it was a sentiment echoed by a number of other guests at our wedding. Thankfully, the staff at the W helped to ameliorate his mistakes but it was upsetting nonetheless.

Djs of the Islands - Puerto Rico & Vieques's reply:

We are very sorry your experience was not good. We aim to please in every way.

One word resumes your event, LATE.
We should have said NO to your late requests; they are now causing us problems. Instead, you walked out on your final invoice (never has happened to us before), you are claiming online all events were a disaster, plus you requested a refund…

To answer your review, please note, as per our signed booking agreement, ALL forms, information, music, speech lists, and requests of services are due 30 days before your events. You disregarded this and submitted ALL your information less than 2 days before your events. Please note, you were not our only client that weekend. Less than 2 days did not provide us the time we needed to plan and perform your complex
multi – venue event to perfection.

    LATE REQUESTS

You also added several services less than 2 days before your events. You added a projector, a lighting tree stand, an outdoor tent for the DJ and our MC package. We went out of our way; in less than 48 hours, and in a remote Caribbean island, we made these late requests happen for you. You are correct, in our 4 minute meeting 1 day before your events; we did not itemize the cost of each extra service. (We were just finding out you needed this and failed to charge you that moment) We are cool with that, and simply presented a final invoice. In addition, there were several other last minute requests:

    a. Your officiant / minister contacted us before your ceremony event claiming he did not have the correct wireless equipment. We again went out of our way and tried to supply him with the equipment requested. Unfortunately this last minute gear was unavailable. This is the reason we started your ceremony 8 minutes late. Please note, the wireless microphone supplied to your officiant was the one we agreed upon in our signed booking agreement. On top of that, he was insulting, rude and flat out wrong. Your request to be refunded for the ceremony portion of your bill is also rude, insulting and incorrect. We provided you with your ceremony service. We thought the last minute request of the change of gear was coming from you. We now suspect, you probably did not know this.
    b. Last minute, your live performers requested our wireless hand held microphone during their special presentation. This also constitutes an additional fee.

When preparing our final invoice for the extra services rendered, we were compelled to void several charges. Our events are normally A BLAST, and we recognize errors were
committed despite your tardiness. We voided the MC package, the bands use of our gear and all the music fees we incurred in last minute. In other words, our final invoice was for the dj tent, for the projector and stand. You seemed offended to receive a final bill.

The generalization that your entire even was a failure, we also think is inaccurate.
There was an 8 minute delay at the beginning of your ceremony and only a couple of many announcements were incorrectly placed. The reception part of the event went fine (the longest). We played your music. You wanted us to take requests by your friends and family, yet almost every time you heard a song not on your list, you came to the dj booth to complaint.

We wish you the best. Sorry things did not go as planned. That is the chance one takes when running late. To walk out on a 6 item final bill, request a refund, and write a bad review online, we feel is not right. Our final bill had 3 charges and 3 no charges.
We refuted the refund request and after submitting our signed booking agreement was found cause in our favor.

I contracted with DJ’s of the island right before Hurricane Maria made it destructive path towards Puerto Rico. We originally had our wedding in St. Thomas at the Marriott’s Frenchman’s Reef. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma forced us to relocate. We found a great new venue in Vieques, Puerto Rico at the W hotel. Having already relocated, we contacted DJ’s of the Island for their services. They were great and accommodated the dates we needed and even gave us a 10% discount for our troubles. However, Hurricane Maria ripped through the island causing us to have to relocate once again. We attempted to stay within Puerto Rico but the destruction was devastating and Puerto Rico needed some time to rebuild. We then decided not to get married in Puerto Rico. We contacted Dj’s of the Island and requested our money back due to the unforeseen circumstances. HOWEVER, they refused stating they can only extend our credit. I pleaded with them to refund us the money but they still chose not to.
All other Vendors were grateful enough to refund us no questions ask as in a time of need people generally come together. I would suggest that you DO NOT use this company incase an issue ever arises. They seems to care for you at first but once you contract with them, they do not care about you at all just the money. I could only imagine if you need to make a last minute change how they would treat you. They are scammers and only care about themselves let alone about your wedding/venue.

Djs of the Islands - Puerto Rico & Vieques's reply:

Chris we want the opportunity to answer your claims and clarify some information you failed to mention.

We have been serving the W on Vieques since they opened in 2010; we are not scamming anyone. In fact we are the hotel's preferred vendor for evertythibg entertainment.

You fail to mention that a signed booking agreement exists between us and that it covers all the issues you are criticizing
    In this terrible review.

You agreed to terms which now you are demanding. Did you read your contract? Did you find a refund policy on the contract? Is there a Hurricane clause on the contract? Did we offer alternatives to this situation? Did we extend the terms of our extension and location of service?

We have acted in accordance of our signed service contract. Our Hurricanne clause stipulates, that in the eventuality of a confirmed hurricane; we will re-schedule your event in a 6 month window. We went ahead and extended this to 6 months after power has been restored, in case it takes longer than 6 months. Furthermore, we extended the service region to cover San Juan and the Metro Area. Many hotels on the San Juan metro Area already have power restored as of mid October.

This situation has been tough on us all. You want to alter the terms of our contract and then proceed to bad mouth us....
    We think that is wrong...
A credit of service has been issued for your activity as per our signed service agreement.

Let us know if you need us to resend the service contract.
    Wish you only the best.
