We worked with Derrick for our engagement shoot and we absolutely adore them! He captured the mood and vibe I was aiming for, to a TEE! We literally printed 24x36s of a couple of the hi-res images he provided, and hung them in the living room already. From the initial communication inquiring about pricing and packages, he was very communicative, professional, and helpful. We booked him specifically for his ability to shoot in dim/low lighting, as well as everything else we saw in his portfolio. My fiancé and I ended up running a few minutes late to the shoot, and he was very understanding and accommodating. During the shoot, the mood was light and chill, and he was extremely personable. He helped us with poses by guiding and directing us and welcomed our input to make sure we got any poses we knew we wanted. He taught us some very valuable posing techniques, that I know will help us in our wedding day photos (which we’ve also booked him for). Derrick has a true skill and calling for photography and we cannot thank him enough. -

If you want stunning pictures with an amazing price then stop looking and book with Derrick today!!! My husband and I looked for weeks for the perfect photograph that was experienced with different skin tones and was within our budget and we couldn’t be more happy with Derrick. Our package include our engagement and wedding pictures both left our family and us speechless with how he captured our love! This is just one of my favorite pictures! -

Very professional and on time. I would truly recommend Derrick for those who are in need of a photographer. The quality of is work is outstanding. He is the go to person for babyshowers engagement graduation and weddings etc.
We needed up booking Derrick for our engagement and wedding. The pictures came back so clear and amazing. We didn't even noticed him at our wedding due to the fact of him interacting with the guest as if he was family. -

DB Photography did a great job for our wedding. I was very picky on making sure I got an amazing photographer and in the end I’m glad it was Derrick. During coordination, he was very responsive. We had zoom meetings to discuss what shots I wanted to make sure he did. On the wedding day, he was super fun. He went above and beyond. I really enjoyed talking to him as we share photography interests. He and his second shooter were really nice and even joined in our dancing as well. I would definitely recommend Derrick. He was really awesome and cool!

Me and my husband dated for 5 years before he proposed to me on 12/22/2019. We had a small window of time to plan and have our wedding because moving in August. Everyone told us it was near impossible to plan a wedding in less than 1 year, let alone 6 months. However, here we are 1 month post-wedding that was on 06/01/2019. Within that time planning for a wedding, finding the right photographer for the job was difficult, especially since that was the most important part for me. Long story short, none of the photographers I looked up stood out and were way over-priced in my opinion. One day, I attended my mom's Zumba class and another attendee overheard that i was getting married. She recommended DB photography because she was very pleased with his pics of them for their engagement and wedding photos. In addition, Derrick offers reasonable prices for excellent work. I immediately went home and looked him up. Not to sound cliche, but as soon as I saw Derrick's work i was BLOWN away! His photos are very CLEAR and crisp, classy, unique, and make POC (people of color) look damn good! I had to book him. Upon, meeting Derrick, he is very friendly and sociable. He makes you feel comfortable with him like you've known him forever. On the wedding day, he spent the ENTIRE day with us. It had to be over a 12 hour day but still his price was reasonable. From start to finish, his work was quality. Me and my husband are no models, but Derrick made us look Magazine sharp in our pics. He helped us pose and brought out of best qualities in the photos. We plan on booking him for our maternity and family photos in the future. He has become our go-to family photographer :D -

My husband and I LOVE our engagement and wedding photos and video. DB is a great person and a great photographer/videographer, he is just a very difficult person to get a hold of. The ONLY reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because communicating with DB has been very frustrating due to lack of responsiveness and having to reach out multiple times regarding the same question or inquiry. It has been over 6 months since our wedding and we still have not received everything included in our package & I’m tired of asking. He would greatly benefit from an assistant who handles all of his admin and communications so he can focus on what he does well and enjoys. -

Unfortunately, unlike the rest of the reviews I had a horrible experience. I used weddingwire.com to reach out to db photography because I saw through his pictures that Derrick was able to photograph people of all hues in contrasting light.
Well after I signed a contract with Derrick to hire him for my wedding day, he was very unresponsive to my emails. It on average took him 2-3 weeks to get back to me and that’s only because I left a follow up email to remind him I emailed him. Mind you, after signing a contract with him I only emailed him 3-4 times in total during a 7 month time period.
The week before the wedding I had to beg him to get on a phone call with me to discuss my schedule of events for my wedding, which was only a 4 hour event. During the call he didn’t remember any of the details of my wedding or anything and so I became worried afterward and at this point I probably should have hired someone else but I kept with him as the photog. I asked if his assistant is supposed to help him take pictures he informed me no they are just there to help with the lighting. I was like Ok fine, I just need to be sure they are coming so that I may provide my venue with the final headcount.
The day of the wedding came and he was by himself taking pictures the entire time, I did not see him check the lighting against me and my husband as we are in an Interracial relationship which I thought was strange, he also did not think to have the wedding party take pictures on the beach at our beach wedding which was also strange and I have no pictures of the beach at my wedding.
He called his “assistant” when it was time for everyone to eat after he had taken all of the formal pictures, which I thought was unprofessional and tacky since the assistant did not help him with lighting or photos, him calling her afterward made it look like she came for a free meal. At the end of my wedding he told me that he is going to send me teaser photos the week after my wedding.
Fast forward to a week after my wedding and I reach out to him to ask about the teaser photos and received no response. So I said that he must be busy and waited another three weeks to ask about my pictures. At that time he told me they would be online that Friday. Friday came and my pictures looked terrible he did not edit the clutter out of the background and he has my darker skinned guests and even me the bride looking terrible in the pictures because of the lack of lighting to contrast the sunlight. I emailed him to ask him to please edit my photos because I had paid for edited photos and he never responded. My mother had to call him multiple times to get him to respond to which he answered the photos will be ready in two days. He reposted the photos online without ever responding to either of us about them being back up and the editing still was not that good.
Two months after my wedding and I have STILL not received the flash drive/usb drive of my photos that was included with my package.
I am saddened by my experience as pictures are supposed to last a lifetime and he has made this experience terrible. Derrick was very unprofessional during this entire process. If I can save a bride from hiring him and finding a photographer that actually wants to do good work for their wedding, I will be glad. I do NOT recommend DB photography at all.DB Photography's reply:
Sorry that you feel that way, I have never received negative feedback in 8 years of service. I pride myself on consistency in the work that i do. I do specify that I discuss day-of-timeline within two weeks of ceremony date as things do change. As in your day, I had to wait 30 min for a room change which caused me to lose time with prep, time I typically would use to pickup or tidy up the suite from the chaos of the day, in this case i had to work with what was given, I understand what goes into prep, I just wasn't alloted the time to clean and make your room ready.
I was given 30 minutes for photos after the ceremony as you only had the venue for four hours, that left zero room for going offsite for photos, when discussing with you I suggested saving time after your event for photos on the beach.
I advised I typically will have someone assisting, your wedding was midday which doesn't require artifical light and although you didn't have it included I did suggest my 2nd shooter come to get you additional photos.
My goal is to always provide quality service and product, your photo gallery was downloaded multiple times so images were delivered, I will still ship out a USB to address on file.
