We loved working with Stephen from Darby Events for our wedding at the Legare Waring House in Charleston! From start to finish, he was incredibly easy to communicate with; super responsive, open to our input, and just a breeze to work with. We gave him a playlist of songs we loved, and he absolutely nailed the vibe, using it as inspiration while reading the room perfectly all night.
The dance floor was packed from start to finish, and we had so many guests tell us he was the best wedding DJ they’ve ever experienced. The energy was high all night, transitions were seamless, and the evening just flowed so naturally.
One of the most unique and unforgettable touches was how he incorporated piano into the night... it was subtle, elegant, and gave everything a really personal, elevated feel. We truly couldn’t have asked for more. If you're looking for a DJ who’s professional, intuitive, talented, and just gets it, Stephen is your guy. -

Everyone should hire Darby Events! We had so many guests come up to us to let us know how amazing he was. He read them room so well and made sure we never left the dance floor! Also, my father and I did a choreographed fast routine that required the mash up of a couple songs and certain parts removed and he did AMAZING! I highly recommend Darby Events for your next event! He won't disappoint. -

Unbelievable experience working Stephen. We were lucky enough to work with Stephen for our wedding at the Creek Club. Everyone is still talking about how great he was keeping everyone on the floor and dancing the day of! Just as importantly, his input leading up to the wedding on songs, timeline, and planning took a ton of the stress away and made the day of absolutely perfect.
Like the title says a 10/10 experience and was a pleasure working with such a great person. -

Stephen was an absolutely incredible DJ! From start to finish, the energy on the dance floor was next level. He was able to read our crowd perfectly at our wedding and kept the dance floor packed all night long. The transitions were flawless, and the music was a perfect mix of crowd-pleasers and fresh hits. With the mix in of the piano it was more than just a DJ playing a setlist, it was an experience! Phenomenal
I can't rave about Stephen enough!! We came to Stephen with specific requests to figure out how to manage our very specific music taste while being able to incorporate every generation of guests. He also knew how to manage our ceremony music, according to our order of events and adjusted on the fly. Not only did he deliver, he EXCELLED. Every age was out on the dance floor from the beginning to the very end. We were constantly having "NO WAY"/mind-blowing responses when he played a new song. You know the music is good when three guests are asking for business cards at the end of the night, and two aren't even getting married anytime soon, but wanted for when the time comes. I have been trying to figure out ways to get Stephen back into our lives post-wedding. He was the most worth-it vendor and one of my absolute highlights. We hired Darby to DJ for our wedding and the main thing we wanted was to have a huge party with all our guest dancing on the dance floor! Darby didn't disappoint and maintained an energetic feeling through out the entire night. Our guest continue to rave about that night and the music is always one of the main highlights. Best dj on planet earth!
I am a local wedding planner in the Charleston area and have been working with Stephen of Darby Events for years. When I officially got engaged and it was time for me to book a wedding DJ, there was no doubt in my mind of who I would hire...the best DJ on planet Earth, of course! Darby was so easy to work with leading up to the wedding day with quick response times and making sure he knew our overall vision for the big day (which was essentially just a killer party). No surprise here, the day of, he was an absolute dream! Every one of our guests had something to say about our wedding DJ and how incredible he was. We literally had to kick our guests out at the end of the night as they didn't want the party to end (although, neither did we). He is always so fun and easy going onsite and he truly brought the heat to our wedding dance floor. Both my husband and I consider him to be a good friend and part of our family. He is just the best! Darby is not just a DJ, he is truly an entertainer. He made our reception a blast!! He read the room so well and knew exactly when to play what music we previously requested. From his quick communication and amazing flowsheets that help guide you through every song selection, he made the entertainment planning for our wedding a breeze! I found his youtube page and after listening to his mash-up videos about 400 times, I knew we had to have him at our wedding! From our prelude music, Jimmy Buffett father daughter dance, and the party music that kept the dance floor packed, Darby made the night a party to remember! By the end of the night when it was time for our private last dance, we were truly sad that the night was already over! The guests were amazed at his live piano and his incredible mash-ups: who else could flawlessly combine Rhianna and Whitney Houston? A huge thank you to Stephen for making our night incredible! -

Planning a destination wedding in South Carolina was tough not being able to see most vendors in person - one decision we made that we were 10000% sure on was booking Darby Events! Stephen was so helpful when first starting out, and has such an infectious energy! We loved how he could mix in songs with playing the piano, added such a cool vibe to our wedding. Wow - Stephen Darby was the MVP of our wedding day! People have messaged us asking for his name and playlist after the wedding so they could listen to more of his music and mixes! Not only did he play and mix our favorite music so well - he added amazing piano elements and remixes in that kept everyone on their feet wondering what amazing song would be next! Our goal was to have everyone on the dance floor from start to finish and he delivered! Also, he's got the reputation to match it. Every vendor we worked with said how excited they were to work with Stephen which says a lot about his quality of service in the wedding world!! Stephen is incredible. He first played at my brother's wedding and after having a little too good of a time there I knew we needed him at our wedding. He knows exactly how to get a crowd up and dancing. And not just my young friends! My parents, who I have never seen on the dance floor for longer than 10 minutes, were there for over an hour. The mixes he creates with his keyboard makes everyone want to dance! We also hired him to do our up lighting which he did a fantastic job on. Outside of the day of, Stephen is extremely professional and easy to work with. I had to move my wedding from 2020 to 2021 and he was able to do so seamlessly while keeping all of our information and payment applicable to the new date. If you are wanting you wedding to not only be beautiful but also FUN, you have to hire Darby events. -

We were so fortunate to have Stephen from Darby Events at our wedding and there is simply not a better option for entertainment in Charleston. My brother owns talent agency in Texas and was probably the most impressed of anyone.
Stephen is an amazing guy and was so great to work with leading up to the wedding. Once he gets going, its truly mind-blowing to watch. My guests have not stopped talking about "the best DJ ever" and he was the very best decision we made for our wedding. His music absolutely made our entire evening.
If you have a chance to book him, you will have a wedding that your friends and family will remember. Your guests will talk about it for months and you too will be writing a review like this.

Having Stephen DJ AND play at our wedding was truly an experience we'll remember forever. He threw the kind of party we never imagined we could have at our wedding and helped fill the night with some of the coolest memories we'll ever have. The subtle piano over the music is incredibly unique and adds just enough to get you even more excited to hear your favorite songs.
Right off the bat, it seemed Stephen was on the same page as my wife and I. We talked about what type of music he usually plays and the stuff we're into hearing at our wedding... and mutually agreed that mashups aren't the way to go. He assured us that wasn't his style and we were excited to hear that. He provided great insight on what songs go well and not so well with piano and let us know we could have as much or as little piano as we wanted. He also provided some demos of how he'd play the piano over our first dance song, so we could hear it ahead of time and practice.
About a month prior, we sent him a playlist of songs we were interested in hearing, so he could work on a playlist based off of our tastes, with about 20-30 must-plays. He was totally flexible, awesome at reading the crowd, absolutely killed the playlist all night... and was great at keeping people on the dance flloor. And when he broke out the piano during the reception, of course everyone went nuts.
Just as much as the guests told us how much they loved the venue and scenery (Boone Hall), SO many people made a point to tell us how amazing the music was and how much fun the DJ made the night for everyone. We'll have permanent memories and smiles from that night forever , and that's totally a testament to the hard work of Stephen. Thanks again for all your work! -

CANT RECOMMEND ENOUGH
My hubby and I got married out West and struggled between Band vs DJ and were having a very large wedding, so it needed to work for the size. We had 400 guests and needed wow factor.
I found Darby Events (Stephen) on Instagram looking at stuff for my wedding. I watched maybe 2 of his videos and loved it all.
Our planning team and design team gave us referrals to different bands (they only use bands - and all from LA / Vegas) and I just didn't love it and after I found Stephen I just wanted him, even if he was in Charleston, South Carolina.
One of the music agents we spoke with ironically was at a wedding Stephen was apart of and said - yeah...hes good :) And that meant alot and sealed the deal. Stephen has played for a lot of "higher profile" weddings and we learned a lot about that from a colleague of his. He's so modest but such a joy to talk to.
Trying not to ramble! buuuut....
Our wedding was a massive party and the dance floor was packed. The way he plays music works for all ages and is def so special. When you see the way the piano works with it you will be amazed.
We had and incredible time, it was worth every penny and I can't recommend Stephen enough. Our guests expected a band - we had the #1 DJ and it was the best decision we made. -

When we started out searching for a band or DJ one of the criteria I had was NOTHING CHEESY. We have all been to those weddings with the band or DJ that is on a microphone all night yelling at the crowd like it’s a club at 1:30 AM and we just didn’t want that. We also didn’t want the same wedding music you hear over and over.
We searched and searched and my husband, now my husband, :) found Darby Events. After setting up a call we knew he was our guy.
Fast forward to our wedding and he was absolutely amazing. So classy and professional as an MC and his music is unlike anything we or our guests had experienced. We were just so blown away. Everyone is still talking about the DJ that played the piano and the music overall could not have been more perfect.
When your guests see how he DJs and then plays the piano live, the jaws just hit the floor. He’s like a band and a DJ in one without the breaks and extra crap that comes with a band.
Stephen you made our wedding the greatest night of our lives and we will be forever grateful. You truly are a class - act and one of a kind. Word of advice - book him early!! We inquired almost a year and a half away and he had ours and maybe a couple dates left. You will see why when you hire him :) -

Truly unforgettable and Stephen made it happen. The gist of this review: If you are looking for a classy, high-end, insanely talented and memorable entertainer for your wedding - you WILL NOT find anything better than Stephen from Darby Events.
We stumbled upon a video of Stephen on Instagram and were instantly hooked to his style. I knew what he did was special so my bride brain instantly emailed, messaged and called him :) In a matter of hours we got a message back and set up a call. After one conversation we both knew he had to be our guy - even if he was located half away across the country. So that is what we did. And it was the best decision we made for our wedding. After hours of watching videos and sound clips, searching for bands, finding his Instagram post made us realize how this would be perfect for our guests.
The #1 thing that my husband did not want was "cheesy." As he describes it - the guy on the mic all night acting like a hype man, overdoing it, screaming LETS GO forty times :) Stephen was the absolute 180 of that. He MC'd the entire evening, but in a way that was classy and far from the cringeworthy DJ you have all seen at a wedding. The way he plays music is so appealing to all ages and it made our group really come together. Watching my 60 year old uncle rocking out to an "Outkast" cover by Stephen playing live on the piano....... was priceless.
We visited each table during dinner to thank our guests and had over 10 people say, "where did you find this guy?" We still have people talking about the music at our wedding!
I can't thank Stephen enough for making our wedding something we will never forget. He offers something you just won't see and it’s something that makes a HUGE difference on the overall outcome. You don’t realize how important music is until you understand it happens at your wedding for 5 hours :) Stephen will blow your mind!

Stephen with Darby events MADE our wedding!!! We wanted a party, everyone on the dance floor, awesome music and we got that plus more! We were recommended Stephen by our wedding planner as the "TOP party" DJ for weddings in CHS, and that feedback was spot on. We can't tell you how many people came up to us after the wedding, complimenting the DJ and raving about how they had never danced that much at a wedding before. We hired Stephen for the reception with an add on violinist for the last 1.5 hours and that was the icing on the cake! Stephen Darby was the first vendor I booked for our wedding! Our wedding planner recommended him because she said he's one of a kind and no one else sounds like him. Once my groom and I watched some of his videos and saw/listened to how he plays live piano over songs and creates awesome mashups with songs of all genres for all ages, we knew we had to have him be our DJ! We were so excited when he was available! We also got his photo booth and up-lighting package, and I can tell you that it's SO worth it! The photo booth was packed all night and the up-lighting transformed the tent at night to make it more of a party atmosphere. Stephen did awesome on his music selection, he played all of our favorites and his live piano skills wow-ed everyone! I was especially blown away during dinner at his down-tempo mixes with lots of live piano- I saw several guests bobbing their heads and mouthing the words while eating their meals and enjoying themselves! I had family come up and thank me for having such a great time and dancing for hours because his music was so great! Stephen's flowsheets made sure everything went smoothly all day- he made sure to know the timeline and what to expect, what our designated songs were for introduction, first dances, bouquet toss, etc., and what types of music we liked the best. He is a talented piano player and DJ, and I would strongly recommend him to everyone!! -

Darby Events was the very first thing my daughter booked after her venue for her Charleston destination wedding. After finding Darby Events on-line and seeing some of his videos, she was SO excited. He far exceeded our expectations! Stephen is so talented and adds so much to the music with his live piano playing and mash-ups of songs. Our guests were definitely “wowed” and the dance floor was packed all night with guests from all different ages. We also used Darby Events to rent a photo booth. It was a beautiful mirror that was also very high-tech and was so much fun. Our guests loved everything and many told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Darby Events is honestly the best way to go for a wedding. He involves so many genres of music but puts on quite a show as well. Our guests and myself included were blown away at how well he involves the piano and makes the experience so unique. We chose to let Stephen have complete control of the playlist and i think its the best way to go. He reads the crowd well and gets everyone involved in the celebration. To start, Stephen is arguably one of the best wedding DJs in the nation. I plan weddings from coast to coast and have seen some incredible DJs...and then there is Stephen from Darby Events. You WILL NOT find a more talented human being to perform at your wedding.
As a wedding planner, booking any vendor is challenging because you have high expectations and see the great, the ok, and the ugly. My team and I plan destination weddings from NY to LA and have really seen just about every style of DJ out there. We had a very large wedding and I knew from the beginning I did not want a band and would start looking for a DJ. Stephen came across my radar through a colleague I have in Los Angeles who used him to play for and event for one of her celebrity clients. I dug a little, saw some videos, and I was HOOKED!
Stephen is just so damn talented and absolutely killed it at our wedding. He is so much more than a DJ - he is a musician. The way he played different types of music for cocktail, dinner and into reception - crushing it on the piano - playing mixes that my guests still are talking about - it was just incredible. 80% of my guests mentioned him when they sent/wrote thank you notes to us and the impact he had on the evening as a whole was amazing. Darby Events made our wedding ceremony and reception the most memorable day. He is amazing on the piano and knows exactly what to play and when to play it! Our guest could not stop talking about how good the music was and how much fun they had dancing. I am still (1 month later) hearing from friends who were reminiscing about how good the DJ was at my wedding.
My wife and I are extremely particular about the music and ambiance we wanted throughout the day, and Darby Events delivered above and beyond our expectations. The music sounded so good and the way he incorporates the piano is absolutely brilliant - especially during cocktail hour and dinner! Furthermore, we had asked Darby Events to overlay an instrumental (which Darby Events custom created) with a live violinist for our first dance and it sounded amazing! Thank you again for all the work you did coordinating with the violinist prior to our wedding!!
Darby Events was the most efficient/easiest vendor we worked with while coordinating all the vendors needed to pull off the wedding. We had maybe two phone calls (5-10 min conversations) and one form to fill out. During our calls, he gave us a checklist of what he needed (we flew him to Nebraska!) and he told us not to worry about anything else. He showed up very early in the morning (he was the first vendor to show up) to setup all of the equipment and spent the entire day with us (until we shut down at 12:00AM) - playing music while we were getting ready, setting up, etc...Very professional, timely, responsive, and organized - Darby Events was a pleasure to work with!
Darby Events is extremely talented and I would recommend him to anyone and everyone. If you want amazing music that all of your guest will enjoy and talk about, then book Darby Events and book him early!!

Christiana Sent on 10/14/2018Once we picked a venue, Steven was the next major decision we made, and it turned out to the best decision! My husband and I watched so many of his videos and fell in love with his style. We knew he would take our wedding to the next level. His music selection was spot on for our guests, and he plays with such passion. Despite it being unseasonably hot, Steven kept the dance floor going and my husband and I danced the whole night. We have gotten so many compliments and we are so happy with our decision. Thanks for everything! -

He was extremely responsive and organized leading up to the wedding and helped us to plan out timing, genres of music, etc. The day of he was at our venue almost the entire day setting up, making sure the sound sounded okay, worked with our musicians (fiddler and singer), etc. He played for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception and ALL of our guests commented on how good the music was. What a neat mix of mashups with the piano. We had the absolute best time at our reception and couldn't have asked for the music to be any better - Stephen KILLED it!

User3308013 Sent on 11/14/2017Stephen Darby was by far one of the best parts of my sisters wedding this past weekend!!! We literally said do whatever you want and he did not disappoint! The dance floor was packed the whole night and his unique transitions, playing piano and the way he mixes songs were a big hit!! He also set up for the ceremony and played lighter music during dinner hours, he can do it all! Don't forget to add the photo booth mirror, coolest and easiest thing! I would recommend him a thousand times over! I don't usually write reviews, but had to because he was the BEST. DJ. EVER. Thank you Stephen!!
