    Really cool venue!

I am so happy with my decision to host my November 2022 wedding reception at the Charles River Museum. The space is so unique and offers something a bit different than a typical hotel ballroom. While I was initially a bit intimidated by the need to bring in many vendors, in the end I was really pleased with the chance to do something more "custom" to my husband and my preferences. Our guests also seemed to think the space was really cool! I'd definitely recommend the Charles River Museum to anyone hosting a wedding in the Boston area.

    The Perfect Venue!

Picking our venue was an easy decision. This was the first place we visited over a year before our wedding and we knew right away we wanted to get married here. The process was so easy and affordable compared to other venues we had researched. Jillian helped us book the venue and the process was seamless. While she was on maternity leave, Anna stepped in and made sure everything went perfect and smooth for our big day. We are very thankful for such a unique place we could call our wedding venue. Our guests were all pleasantly surprised and loved the venue as well. I definitely recommend this venue to anyone looking for a special wedding spot.

    A wonderfully unique venue

From start to finish we were incredibly pleased with CRMII.

We worked with Jillian initially and her knowledge about the space and friendliness was fantastic. After working with Jillian we started working with Anna who was such a pleasure to work with on the day of the event and after.

The pricing structure is very transparent and I never felt like I was hoodwinked by it. The events packet that the museum provides is incredibly helpful as well. It helped us nail down our vendor team within a few weeks.

Our guests LOVED the space. Having a January wedding it was great to have a space that allowed the guests to escape the load dance music or just be away from the reception hall.

The venue truly allows you to be creative with your decor and how you set up the space. I would highly recommend using the Charles River Museum as part of your special day! We do not regret it in the slightest!

    Stunning Venue

We still have guests talking about how amazing our venue was. I knew that I wanted something different for our wedding. I had no idea what we were in for when we walked into the CRMII. It was amazing. All exposed brick, old antique everything - it is what my dreams were made of. From day one, Jillian was wonderful to work with. We met with her and different vendors quite a few times and she was always flexible - even meeting us there in a snowstorm one day. The venue was made even more beautiful by adding greenery and candles. It was truly a dream wedding.

    A one-of-a-kind venue

We had a lot of boxes we wanted to check for a wedding venue -- accessible by highway and public transit, parking, able to accommodate both our ceremony and reception, and without a cookie-cutter function hall vibe -- and the Charles River Museum hit them all. We didn't do much decorating since it's such a distinctive space, but it still felt celebratory and we were able to personalize the details to suit our wedding. So many of our guests raved about how cool and unique the location was, and had fun checking out the exhibits during the cocktail hour. Jill was great at answering (and anticipating) questions. We hooked up an iPhone with Spotify to the museum's sound system for our reception, to great effect. We also used the museum's tables and chairs, which fit nicely in the space with 120 guests and made it feel intimate.

    11/9/19 Wedding

HOLY CRAP we love the Charles River Museum!!! This was truly our dream venue and such a special place to have our wedding. Honestly, the space speaks for itself. Jill was so wonderful to work with and answered all of our questions so quickly. We were able to drop off all of our decorations a few days early, and she made sure everything was where it needed to be. On the day of our wedding, she greeted us a big smile! When we weren't sure about the order for walking in to the ceremony, she made a great suggestion that ended up working perfectly! The entire space is absolutely beautiful and so many of our guests loved that they could tour many of the exhibits while enjoying a drink. The Jackson Room is our favorite part of the museum with its beautiful brick walls and the back room that over looks the Charles River. We are beyond happy that we chose the Charles River Museum as our wedding venue and can't believe that we were able to have our wedding in such a breathtaking space! Thank you!!!

    History Meets Elegance

If you're looking for a laid-back and historical venue, the Charles River Museum in Waltham, MA is just what you're looking for! With 104 guests, most from out of town, this was the perfect venue for people to catch up, learn about my hometown and enjoy great food and drinks.

Jill, the event coordinator, was willing to help with any before, day of or after things my groom and I needed. She also walked us through the entire day so that we had a piece of mind.

I can't wait to go back and see more exhibits when I return home for the holidays :)

Gorgeous and super easy to work with

What a beautiful venue! The main function hall is extremely beautiful, huge, high-ceilinged, brick, and kind of industrial. The body of the museum is really cool, with so many objects big and small to look at. And, as a huge bonus, it's right on the Charles, so there's gorgeous running water and trees to take photos next to if you want!

Jillian at the CRMII is also great to work with--there are some people in the world who are just On Top Of Everything and I think Jillian is one. It was a pleasure to do business with the venue because of her.

All dressed up on the night of, the museum was stunning. The museum staff sticking around to make sure that everything went smoothly were super nice, and very present & available. I think working with CRMII was as perfect of a venue experience as you're gonna get. Now I want all my friends to get married so I can tell them to get married there :)

    Great, unique DIY venue

We loved having our wedding here - it definitely allows for creativity as you call the shots on decor, food, seating rentals, etc. Jill was great to work with! If you're looking for super fancy - this isn't for you (unless you REALLY dress it up) but we were looking for something that was unique/not your standard hotel/banquet room and we got that. The price was reasonable. One tip: make sure you specify to your clean up crew what you want to throw out since you pay for trash service day of - there are no dumpsters!!

    Incredible Experience

We couldn't be happier with our choice of the Charles River Museum as a wedding venue. Jill and her team were wildly accommodating throughout the process and worked with us to structure an event that aligned with our vision. Jill worked closely with the wedding planner, caterer, florist, DJ, and games vendor to ensure that all parties had everything they needed to make the evening a success. The space is suitable for a range of purposes. We had a pre-ceremony cocktail party downstairs in the main exhibit hall, held the wedding ceremony in the main upstairs room, and used the adjacent upstairs spaces - including the gallery - for games. The venue's ramps made the transitions accessible to guests with mobility impairments, a key consideration for our elderly attendees. The river boardwalk provided an ideal backdrop for pre-wedding photos, and the whole event looks incredible on camera. We're fortunate to have found the CRMII and would recommend it enthusiastically to anyone in the market for a unique wedding venue in the Boston area.

    Unique & Industrial!

Luckily, we came across the Charles River Museum through a suggestion on a Facebook group. On our first visit to the museum, we met with Anna, who was in the middle of prepping the space for a wedding later that night. It gave us a chance to see the potential the space had, it’s stunning. We loved that the space would offer exhibits for our guests to explore and offer tons of room to mingle, all while keeping the ceremony and reception in the same place.

We had our ceremony the Jackson room, which is a large gorgeous brick ballroom. It really doesn’t need much to make the room pop, we opted for edison bulb string lights on the ceiling and for a ceremony backdrop. Post ceremony, our guests were funnelled into the museum for hors d'oeuvres and cocktails while our catering team flipped the ballroom for the reception.

If you’re looking for a unique venue, it’s definitely worth while to check out the Charles River Museum. There are a ton of unique photo spots in and around the venue as well! Both Anna and Jill were lovely to work with too!

    The BEST venue!

The Charles River Museum is truly one of the most unique locations you can choose for your wedding. Every single one of our guests raved about it! It's very different from your typical venue - you have to get your own catering, rentals, alcohol, etc but you really get to utilize the entire museum. Your guests can walk through the museum during cocktail hour, the Jackson room is absolutely stunning when it's decorated. Every single staff member at the museum is so helpful. Jillian was extremely responsive to my questions and concerns, and with her help, our wedding at the museum was the most magical day we could have ever imagined.

    We absolutely loved this venue!

We could not be happier that we chose Charles River Museum as our wedding venue. It is such a beautiful, unique, and engaging venue. Our guests were absolutely in love with it—we were getting constant compliments throughout the night and we still are to this day! Jill at CMRII was so wonderful to work with. Her calm and supportive demeanor made us feel so comfortable with how the day was going to go. It is not an all-inclusive venue, in that you have to bring everything in, but it was so worth it to have this amazing and memorable space. We highly recommend picking CMRII as a wedding venue and working with Jill to make your day possible.

    Beautiful venue with wonderful staff

My husband and I got married at the CRMII on October 5th and I can’t say enough wonderful things. From the prompt communication from Jill, the museum coordinator to the wonderful support we received throughout the panning process and day of, our experience was truly excellent. One thing to note: this is a bare bones venue, meaning that you must bring everything in yourself (linens, tables, glassware etc.) I actually found this to be totally fine, as it allowed me to customize everything exactly how I wanted it. We got SO many compliments from our guests talking about how it was the most unique venue they had ever been in. If you are looking for a beautiful, unique venue that is a bit of a blank canvas, the CRMII is absolutely for you!

Working with Jill at CRMII was a total dream. To be quite honest, this was the first venue we looked at. after seeing it and meeting Jill, we booked it immediately. The museum's location on the Charles is gorgeous in all seasons, and it allows for the outside ceremony/quick transition to inside reception that we wanted. The museum itself is so unique and fun, with old fashioned cars and time stamp machines and clocks--our guests LOVED looking around. Plus, the old textile mill high brick ceilings are to die for. Most importantly, I cannot overstate how wonderful it was to work with Jill. She was extremely organized, responsive, and accommodating. We ended up hiring her as our day-of coordinator, and it was the best money we spent. She instills total confidence that everything will go smoothly and exactly as you hope.

We had our Spring 2018 wedding at the museum and it was a truly wonderful experience. The museum space, exterior areas along the river, and Jackson room provided unique and special spaces that our guests loved. The mix of industrial museum pieces, metal and brick made for beautiful views (and pictures). It was the perfect sized space for our 125 person celebration. Jill, the museum's event coordinator, was phenomenal in helping us with planning with our vendors, and helping us with truly maximizing the space and providing insight on what other couples had done. We had a day we will never forget and highly recommend the museum for your special day.

We had an exceptional experience with CRMII. Jillian was our initial contact but we primarily worked with Anna. I cannot describe how amazing our experience was, the space is amazing, interesting, our guests loved it. Anna was insanely helpful, far beyond expectation. She helped us make a difficult decision about a vendor and compensated with advice and support for the deficit. Anna is so calm, patient, kind- exactly the vibe you want around your wedding. We must have visited 7 times throughout the year before the big day and they were so accommodating, helpful. We couldn't decide whether to have our ceremony inside or outside (we decided inside) did a quick flip and had our reception inside as well. Photos were outside, we got lucky with a beautiful late October day. We used Blue Ribbon BBQ/Premier Bar Service & Catering- Fiona was the catering manager- she is a GEM/Peak Rentals/Holly Redmond-Photos/DJ JD. We HIGHLY recommend CRMII! Also loved all our other vendors.

We had our October 6, 2017 wedding here and I cannot recommend the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation enough! The space is beautiful and unique and the staff is professional and friendly! Anyone looking for a non-traditional space with staff that will work with your vision, this is the place for you!

We fell in love with the space right away! From the beginning of the planning process Jill and everyone at the museum was amazing. They provided us with vendor lists and advice for working with the space. Because the Jackson room is so large and the museum only provides tables and chairs, there are a lot of logistics and vendors to work with. Throughout the whole planning process Jill made herself available to answer any questions we had and accommodate any changes. Jill and Ana worked closely with our coordinator, bar, caterer and other vendors to help our vision come true!

The day of, everything ran so smooth! The staff were available and willing to help, but were not in the way of guests and allowed everyone to have fun. Everyone who attended the wedding was amazed by the space! They wanted to take pictures everywhere and explore all night.

    We couldn’t have been happier!

The Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation was literally the perfect setting for my wedding on August 5th, 2017. The industrial backdrop went so well with the rest of my very natural and light décor. Literally every location of the venue provides the perfect backdrop for a photo, so I’ve just been so in awe of each picture I’ve seen! All of my guests were traveling from Pennsylvania, and many people said that the venue itself was worth the trip. The museum displays provided entertainment for guests the entire night, whether they were just learning about the displays or taking photos in the phone booth. The space itself fit everyone perfectly and allowed for a great flow of events from the ceremony to cocktail hour to the reception. Not to mention, the museum staff was an absolute pleasure to work with!! Jill, Anna, and Cora were all super responsive and accommodating to all our requests and needs. Thank you or making the day so smooth, enjoyable, and beautiful!

The Charles River Museum was absolutely perfect for our wedding, and working with Jill (the venue coordinator) was so stress-free and easy. She was very quick to respond, and super flexible. The space itself is incredibly cool, and kept all of our guests entertained. We did our ceremony outside in Landry Park, which was the perfect little space before moving all the guests inside for cocktail hour and the reception. We added bistro lights to the Jackson Room for our reception, and I would highly recommend it - I think it really helps warm up the space (pro-tip: ask the lighting company to put them on a dimmer). We followed previous reviewers' advice and had signs pointing the way for guests along with instructions for parking and it went off without a hitch. Overall, it was perfect for us and we would highly recommend it.

I did a ton of research on venues before I found the CRMII. As soon as I saw it online, I knew we had to get married there. My husband and I are both engineers so the industrial museum vibe fit perfectly with our personalities and we knew it would be a hit with our friends and family. We went for a tour with Jill, who was super sweet and accommodating and fell in love with the museum. She told us there was one date left for summer 2017 and as we were walking out, I ran back to put a hold on the date. Throughout the entire planning process, Jill was incredibly helpful - giving us vendor tips and confirming that we could in fact use open flame candles (one of the few places that does!). Our wedding day was incredible and everyone is still telling us how much they loved the venue - it's just so unique and fun, exactly what we wanted for our wedding day!

CRMII was absolutely amazing!! If you are looking for a unique, industrial venue this is perfect. We got married in the park outside the museum, had cocktail hour on the first floor, and had the reception in the Jackson room upstairs. Guests were so entertained during cocktail hour with the metal stamping, looking at the exhibits, punching in time cards, you name it. The reception space was the perfect size for eating and dancing, and had a great lounge area for guests who wanted to step away from the noise and relax. Jill (the event manager) was always so responsive to any questions/ideas we had. I can't think of a single thing I would change!!

Our MDW wedding at CRMII was perfect in every way. The space is fantastic - it gives guests a chance to wander or enjoy the party - and Jill is a dream to work with. Since it's a museum, not a banquet hall, you'll need to coordinate rental equipment, but if you're the type that wants something truly unique, CRMII gives you the opportunity to create the event of your dreams.

We just had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Charles River Museum (3/29/2016) and it was wonderful! We had the ceremony upstairs in the Jackson room, cocktail hour in the main museum and dinner/dancing back in the Jackson room. There was enough space for our ~150 guests and a 6-piece band. If you're looking for 160+ guests, the space will be tight with a band--but workable with a DJ. The museum was beautiful and doesn't need additional decorations; many guests told us they loved the space. Also, since we first booked the museum last year, the museum has undergone several upgrades--including bigger bathrooms & a new walkway outside the museum that was great for pictures--that we got to take advantage of. Finally, Jill, the museum coordinator, was incredibly responsive, easy to work with, professional and very accommodating. We would definitely recommend it!

CRMII was the perfect place to host our wedding. It was difficult to find a venue that was large enough to hold ~140 people, under $3,000 (for the winter), and have our choice of caterers - but this museum was perfect! My husband is in the start-up world, so the "innovation" piece was on-trend and our wedding was 1920s vintage themed so the exposed brick, factory feel fit right in. We held a cocktail hour downstairs in the museum and our reception and dance floor upstairs with a photobooth on the mezzanine. It didn't feel cramped at all. Jill was really responsive on her e-mails and let us tour twice so our parents could come back and see it. If you're going to get married there, definitely get announced looking over the balcony. It's a celebrity feeling moment. The only thing is that it's a little hard to find. Some our guests got temporarily lost. Have good signage and driving directions.

This is one of the most unique museums around, and it was more than perfect to host our wedding. The last place I wanted to get married in was a banquet hall or a hotel ballroom, and this place was the complete opposite. We had our ceremony outside in Landry Park (it was late October and the foliage was unreal), and the cocktail hour and reception inside. Our guests could not stop commenting on how amazing the museum was and how they'd never seen anything like it. The ballroom is HUGE and the fact that it's an old textile mill meant huge windows and lots of brick, so beautiful! Jill always responded quickly to each and every email and the event staff was great the night of our wedding. I can't say enough amazing things about this place.

CRMII is a unique space for any couple looking for something different. The park was a beautiful setting for our ceremony, especially with the leaves changing color in October. The cocktail reception was held in the main gallery, and our guests loved the photo ops with all of the old cars and other machinery. The Jackson Room accommodated our 125 guests, 7-piece band, and photobooth AND still had room for a great dance floor. There are even fun spaces to rest and relax away from the party, like a little lounge, the watch gallery, and a brand new deck winding along the river. Jill was great to work with and made sure all of our guests' needs were met (handicap access, and other logistics). Very cool, memorable spot!

The Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation was the perfect venue for our ceremony and reception! We got compliments and questions about the unique and beautiful space all night! Jill O'Shaughnessy was our event manager and she was incredibly helpful and a pleasure to work with. Our 180 guest reception fit perfectly with a ridiculously fun live jazz cocktail hour in the first floor exhibit hall and overlooking balcony, then dinner and dancing in the Jackson Room, with room for two bars, a lounge, and a killer dance floor. I can't get over how great our pictures look! We couldn't have asked for more!

This is a fantastic venue! The space consists of the downstairs exhibit hall (full of cool old machinery!), which the guests could roam throughout during the reception, the upstairs watch gallery (very cool), and the spacious upstairs function room (we comfortably accommodated ten 72-inch rounds as well as food station tables and a clear area for the ceremony). The building is an old factory building, so the function room has high ceilings, gorgeous big windows with views of the river, and lots of beautiful exposed brick. There's also a small sitting area off the function room that we used as a sort of bar and lounge area. To reach the museum, you come across the river on a cute footbridge that's great for pictures. The museum also has a handicapped-accessible back entrance that goes straight into the function room.

My contact at the museum, Christine, was a pleasure to work with throughout the process. We were able to visit the space multiple times while planning the event and were also able to close the museum a couple of hours early on the day of for a very reasonable fee. The venue has so much character--we didn't even need decorations other than centerpieces because it looked so cool already--and it's really a great value. I also think it's a great option for kids' parties--my young cousins had a blast! Highly recommended!

The Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation is a great place to hold your wedding! It is spacious and comfortable. Guests are allowed to mill about and look at exhibits through out the evening. There is a huge room that can be set up like a traditional reception.

    Perfect in Every Way!

Married April 2, 2022 - the museum is open and renovated! We had an amazing experience working Jillian and the rest of the Charles River Museum. We were married offsite, but we had our cocktail hour and reception here. It was a dream wedding reception come true!

The space is absolutely beautiful. We’re both history nerds, so we loved the hometown flavor of the museum. Here’s the thing: our guests loved it too. By hometown flavor: don’t expect the Museum of Science. It’s better: it’s authentic, it’s human, it’s a little eccentric. We had our cocktail hour in the museum space then moved to the upstairs ballroom for dinner and dancing. Think brickwork and iron. We added a few flowers, some cafe lights, and candles — so, so romantic!

There is a lot of parking, too! The parking garage / lot is just across the Charles. (The Charles is just a little creek here hehe.) There’s a very enchanting little bridge from the parking lot to a small, quaint “boardwalk,” which leads directly to the entrance of the museum. There’s good signage, and this “boardwalk” is also the perfect spot for a send-off!

We had about 100 guests; it felt full but not crowded. Jillian was a delight to work with. She is responsive, enthusiastic, and kind, and she provided us with a list of vendors who had worked with the museum. Because we picked the museum as our venue first, we were more than happy to follow her guidance: and they all turned out to be stellar recommendations!

The museum was an amazing venue for our wedding. Jillian and the museum staff were really helpful along the way answering questions and on the day of making sure everything went off without a hitch. The Jackson Room is such a great space for ceremonies and receptions, and our guests had a lot of fun exploring the museums exhibits during our cocktail hour.

We are so glad we had our ceremony and reception at the museum. The staff was incredibly accommodating, and our guests loved the location. Plus, my husband and I didn't need to spend a lot of money on decorations, because the whole venue is a decoration in and of itself.

We had our reception at the Charles River Museum and loved everything about it. The event manager, Jill, was fantastic. Very responsive, and she was there for the whole event to make sure everything ran smoothly.
Our guests kept commenting how unique of a place it was for a wedding, and most want to go back to visit the museum again.
We had our cocktail hour downstairs in the main room of the museum, and our dinner upstairs in the event room. We had about 140 people, and it was the perfect size for a sit down dinner including a small dance floor.
It's definitely a more cost effective way to go, as you can bring in your own caterer as well as alcohol. The venue doesn't even require much for decorations, we just used some lighting to focus on some of the museum's awesome qualities.
I would definitely recommend this venue for those looking for something a bit different!

A great place to consider if you are looking for a different type of venue for a wedding. We had our ceremony and reception in the museum. The space was beautiful from start to finish. We only held our reception at CRMII, but it was a huge hit with our guests. Almost everyone we spoke to commented on how much they enjoyed the space. Several months before our event, they experienced a change in staff which caused a little delay in certain responses, but once the change was completed, the assistance was top notch and didn't affect the success of the event in any way. All in all, it was a pleasure working with CRMII and they made a wonderful event run smoothly.

CRMII is a unique and gorgeous venue. Our friends and family still talk about how cool and distinct it was. Unlike other museums we looked at, this space is perfect for a wedding. We had the cocktail hour downstairs in the exhibition space and then the reception in the Jackson room upstairs which has high ceilings, exposed brick, big windows and lots of space. Jill was great to work with and very flexible. Several of our vendors had worked there before and really liked it. We had our ceremony in a nearby church and then did photos in the park and board walk outside the museum as well as in the museum too--they came out great. We didn't end up doing any additional lighting/uplighting and it was totally fine. We couldn't have been happier with our experience, the space is unforgettable.

My husband and I couldn't have been any happier with the venue for our wedding and the quality of service provided by Jen and her staff. All of our guests commented on (and still do!) how unique and beautiful the space is and how much fun they had. If you're looking for a non-traditional venue with lots of history and character, this is it. Every detail was given lots of attention and we were completely stress-free on the day of our wedding. They were also extremely accommodating to our requests to use the caterer, bartending service, and liquor store of our choosing.

We held the ceremony on the first floor among old cars, a fire engine, and industrial machinery. There's really no need to decorate! The collection is perfectly curated, rich in history but not too cluttered either. The reception was in the Jackson Room above the gallery which is a breathtaking space. The exposed brick, huge windows, and 2-story ceilings are really quite something. And with all the exposed iron work and architectural details, it needs no further decoration. Essentially, it was the perfect place for us to celebrate our special day.

Christine was very responsive to questions and comments and was very flexible regarding start time and when our other vendors could access the space. The Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation is an amazing wedding venue! Our guests couldn't stop raving about the beautiful space and how fun it was to walk around the exhibits. Anna and Jill on the events team were responsive and helpful. The one time that we had trouble was when we wanted to book the venue - it took weeks to get the contract signed and our card charged for the deposit, which was stressful since confirming the date and place is the most important step in the wedding planning process. We highly recommend getting a Day-of-Coordinator for this space, specifically Without a Hitch. Without a coordinator it would have been extremely stressful trying to make sure all of the details were in place since the venue isn't automatically set-up for a wedding. Overall, we're so happy that we went with CRMII for our big day and highly recommend it for any couple looking for a unique, industrial, and fun space!

Charles River Museum of Industry is a beautiful and unique venue that does not disappoint! We had 131 guest with full dinner and dancing and there was plenty of room for everyone to move around and have a good time. Cocktail hour was in the museum and the dinner and dancing was in the Jackson room. We did our ceremony offsite at a nearby church but CRMII does offer ceremony services at their venue.

The venue itself transforms into whatever you want to make it and your guests will surely be complimenting how different and cool this place is! We loved that we were able to make it what we wanted with our own personal touches, choosing our own vendors and adding our own decor. You have lots of options when it comes to choosing your vendors, which isn't always the case with other venues and we had looked at. The staff was really pleasant and easy to deal with. However, it should be noted that because the museum isn't open everyday and has a smallish staff, you should expect a little lag time in communication. When wedding planning, a day or two feels like a long time but be patient - it's worth it and they will take care of you! The museum also has a new boardwalk right on the Charles River, great for guests to walk and also to get some stellar photos. We LOVED this venue and so did our guests!

If you gravitate toward a unique, fun, beautiful venue - you will love Charles River Museum of Industry!

The Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation is a truly unique venue. It is set alongside the Charles River and has a beautiful (and recently renovated) second floor space that is a perfect spot for a reception. The first floor is where the museum exhibits are and is a fun and interactive space for cocktail hour. We were supposed to have the ceremony outside of the museum in a park along the river. However, mother nature had other plans. Due to the rain earlier in the day we had to have the ceremony inside, but it was beautiful. In the same space as the reception room, there is a lounge area with floor to ceiling windows that provided a stunning backdrop.

We had our November 2017 wedding at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation, and we were so thrilled with the way it turned out! We knew we didn't want a traditional wedding venue, and this space is so unique and totally fit the bill. Jill and Anna were a pleasure to work with; very accommodating and responsive to email. I would definitely recommend this venue!

We had our ceremony and reception (flipped) upstairs in the main ballroom, and the cocktail hour downstairs in the museum. All of our guests loved looking around and chatting among the exhibits.

The one thing I will note is that booking CRMII is just booking a venue... you still need to book the rest of your event staff/vendors separately. This isn't a big deal (and the venue has many recommendations for vendors -- all of whom we booked from their list), but if you're looking for something "all-inclusive," this definitely isn't it.

We had our reception at the Charles River Museum in October 2017, and were so happy with the experience! If you are looking for a unique venue with lots of character, this place is for you.

We started working with Jill, but later worked with Anna, both of whom were incredibly responsive and helpful in answering all our questions. We had many email exchanges and a site visit to review all the details before the big day. There are some things to keep in mind if you are planning your reception here: using the outside park requires a permit from the city of Waltham, parking is in a separate lot (but close to the museum), gaining handicapped access requires a bit of coordination, and so on. These are all things to discuss as you get closer to the wedding. The price for the museum was very reasonable, but keep in mind that everything else (linens, flatware, chairs, etc.) need to be rented separately.

Overall, we were very happy with our reception at the museum, and would highly recommend it to other couples!

Love the museum, and loved getting married there--and our guests loved it, too. However, they haven't been doing weddings for all that long, and they're severely under-resourced, so it was occasionally tough to get answers/feedback throughout the process.

I was, however, severely disappointed in how work being done at the museum around the time of our wedding was handled. Major renovations--though necessary and beautiful--to the event room were made the week before our wedding without warning, necessitated of course a total reconsideration of seating and decorating (for instance, our wedding ceremony was focused on the middle of a stage in the room; the stage itself was ripped out). And the function room floor was in the midst of being replaced: like, missing tiles, sanded down and dull day-of. It worked out okay thanks to the incredibly hard work of our caterer (Swartz Catering) and the museum staff themselves. But really, shame on the board or whoever was responsible for that: it was disrespectful of our time and investment in the organization.

All that aside, Christine--director of operations, and de facto event coordinator we dealt with--was lovely to work with and really tried to help however she could. Staff the day-of did an AMAZING job dealing with a tough situation, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

It saddens me to write this because it seems that most others did not have the experience I had, so perhaps I just caught a bad day, but I was underwhelmed with the service provided. I absolutely LOVED the venue and wouldn't have changed that at all, but when it came to the rehearsal and wedding, I did not feel the event managers cared at all about the service. The rehearsal was a mess - the point person there was somebody I had never met before, we were told we would be able to set some things up then but when we were there were told we couldn't, and while I orchestrated the rehearsal, the representative was on their phone in the back not paying attention. During the wedding there were issues with managing the crowds - I'd asked the event managers to direct guests downstairs after the ceremony, but they didn't so all the guests started following the wedding party to pictures, at one point they had turned the lights off over the bartenders so they could barely see what they were doing, and I was never checked in with at one point during the night to see how things were and if they could do anything to help. It just seemed completely opposite of the experience I'd gotten up until the day of the rehearsal, which is sad because the event manager is super nice and I had a great experience up until that point. Hopefully I just caught an off night and this review can help the managers for their future events. I would not let this deter you from using this venue if you've fallen in love with the space - especially if you're hiring a wedding planner/day-of coordinator. Our bartending/service company did a fabulous job and filled in a lot of the gaps.
