We are so grateful we chose Gwen to lead our ceremony. She custom-wrote our entire ceremony around a “love story” theme that we created together, asking us each questions ahead of time and weaving our answers into something beautiful, heartfelt, and uniquely us. We didn’t know what the other had said, which made the ceremony full of sweet surprises, laughter, cheers, and even a few tears from both us and our guests.
She was wonderful to work with and our ceremony was everything we hoped for and more, and we cannot recommend her highly enough!

I truly can’t say enough good things about Gwen. We immediately felt at ease upon meeting her in our initial consultation. She is down to earth, communicative, warm, and creative. She has a very organized way of preparing leading up to the wedding day and she let us design our ceremony in any way we wanted. Gwen did a fantastic job! She told our story in such a beautiful, romantic, and funny way. We didn't think we'd want a recording of our wedding so we didn't hire a videographer, but that's our main regret now, given how much we loved our ceremony. Not only did Gwen create a super special ceremony for us, she was also very professional in every step along the way--meeting us, getting all of the details about how we met, running the rehearsal--everything was just perfect. If you're looking for someone you can trust to give you the ceremony of your dreams, you need to hire Gwen (and a videographer!).

We had an absolutely great experience with having Gwen as our officiant. We had a medium sized wedding with less than 100 guests. We opted for her love story version of the ceremony, and I would highly recommend it because it makes the ceremony so much more personal to include details that you and close family and friends shared in the big day. Best Halloween EVER
My fiancé and I had been planning our wedding since 12/21/2019. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, we were forced to move our wedding date from 02/06/2021 to 11/06/2021. We had been really down in the dumps because of this but wanted to find some way to cheer ourselves up, do something for US, but still keep it a secret until November of 2021. That is when I came onto WeddingWire and found Gwen. She was sweet, very responsive, and extremely helpful in deciding what would be best for us. We chose to do a signing of paperwork on 10/31/2020 that included ourselves and 2 witnesses that we brought on our own, however, Gwen did offer to find us 2 witnesses if we needed. When we got there she immediately came out and said hello, chatted with us for a little bit, did our legal signing, and recommended we drive about 9 minutes from her house to Bass Lake Park to take some photos!
I would definitely recommend Gwen for your small marriage officiant needs. If we didn’t already have an officiant booked and paid for since February of 2020 for our 11/06/2021 wedding date, we would 100% hire Gwen!

Beautiful ceremony and so easy to work with
We are not really sentimental or attention-loving people so we were nervous about figuring out our ceremony, but Gwen made every step of the process very easy and painless. She worked with us on all the logistics and content of our ceremony, and surveyed our friends and family to write a "love story" to tell at our ceremony, which many of our guests say they really enjoyed. She also did announcements, cued the DJ, and organized our marriage license signing. She is extremely flexible and organized (spreadsheets and google docs!) and we didn't have to do much at all, just a quick questionnaire and a meeting or two! She did a great job running our rehearsal and was familiar with the venue. She was respectful of all of our preferences and we were really happy with the result. She is a very kind, down-to-earth person and it was a pleasure to work with her.

A Custom Touch
We absolutely loved working with Gwen in creating our story. We are not a religious couple so finding someone like her that had the flexibility to incorporate religious/nonreligious as you wish was perfect. I honestly didn't know where to begin when it came to finding someone so diverse. I've only witnessed weddings with preachers reading from the bible. So when I met Gwen I instantly knew she was "the one" LOL. I love the creation of our story she told our guests to give them an inside perspective on us as a couple, we got plenty of laughs and 'aww's'. It was great having something so catered to us

Best Day of Our Life
Gwen was the perfect choice for our recent wedding. She made the whole process easy and stress free. She was very knowledgeable on different ceremony types, traditions and rituals. Gwen did a great job personalizing the ceremony to accommodate our needs. She responded quickly to our questions and was receptive to any changes that needed to be made. During the rehearsal, she helped ease my anxiety with her calm demeanor and easy going personality. One of the things I looked forward to the most was hearing “Our Love Story” which she created for our ceremony. On our wedding day, she arrived early to make sure everything was organized. Gwen made our day better than we could have ever imagined and I would highly recommend her to anyone!

What can we say? Gwen is awesome! The way she personalizes your ceremony, her professionalism, and her warm and caring personality combine to make your day extra special. Everyone was raving about how fun and unique our ceremony was, and that was all thanks to Gwen. She also makes sure things are in order, so people know what they are doing, where to be and when, and that took so much stress off of us. Very professional with many personal touches
Picking an officiant was one of the last things we did when choosing our vendors. We knew we wanted a few Jewish elements but overall didn't want a religious ceremony. We didn't have a person in our life who we wanted to ask to be the officiant so we turned to the internet and found Gwen.
Gwen listened to our requests for what we did and didn't want out of the ceremony and totally delivered. Part of Gwen's work is the telling of a "Love Story" which is kept a secret from the bride and groom. This is a major part of the ceremony and when you're planning every little detail it's tough to turn over such a large chunk to someone else. Gwen asked us to trust her, we did, and the story was incredible. It had lots of details about how we met, how we grew closer, the proposal, etc. It also included anecdotes from friends and family so they were able to be included as well. We came away very pleased with what she delivered.
We also asked Gwen to perform a simple ceremony before the main event for the signing of the legal marriage and a ketubbah. She showed up early to do these and they were great as well.
We know that picking an officiant can be difficult if you don't have a Rabbi, Pastor, Priest, etc in your life or want to steer away from religion altogether. We highly recommend Gwen's services and professionalism to help make your wedding great!

Gwens rocks!
Gwen was absolutely awesome! My fiance and I decided pretty last minute (like, less than 60 days) that we wanted to host a party at his parents' house and get married at the same time. Gwen was super flexible and supportive, and was particularly helpful in walking us through the process one step at a time to ensure we were leaving nothing out. Working with her was very low-stress. She was very communicative over email and text, and once we completed our contract and payment, she checked in every week or so to ensure the plans were still set. She arrived exactly on time day of and went with the flow of things, just as we wanted. I couldn't have asked for a more laid-back and easy process! Thanks Gwen!

Gwen to the Rescue!
We met Gwen a few weeks before our wedding when our original officiant had to cancel last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. We frantically looked up websites and noticed Gwen's beautiful smile! We quickly contacted her and within hours she responded! We set up an appointment to meet her and when we did we knew right away we wanted her to do our wedding. She made us feel welcomed, relaxed and in control of our own ceremony with providing examples and guides to help us along the way.
She was ready! She had everything in place and clear instructions, she kept us in constance communication and was so easy to work with.
When it was all said and done Gwen designed a beautiful ceremony and customized it to our need and our guest. She did an amazing job and at an affordable price!
If you're looking for someone to get you hitched, then Gwen is the officiant for you! You won't regret it! :-)

Amazing human. Recently moved here due to getting engaged Gwen went above and beyond with suggestions on where to have the wedding and several options for the ceremony. I had less than 3 months to get it completed and on the wedding day no one sat in the chairs everyone stood up and took video and pictures due to the amazing vows Gwen wrote for us that had people crying with love.

My fiancé' and I wanted to get married, but didn't want a big event, nor did we want to get married at the county courthouse. After some online research, we found Celebrant, Gwen Downs. From the start, Gwen was quick to reply to emails, pleasant, flexible, and super accommodating despite our ever-changing elopement date! We finally settled on a date and time and upon arrival, Gwen made us feel completely at ease. We took a short walk to our wedding venue, armed our two witnesses (provided by Gwen), with our cell phones to take photos and said our vows! After saying, "I do," we had a quick photo shoot, courtesy of Gwen and our fun-loving witnesses and off we went as husband and wife to celebrate. The next day, Gwen sent us a link to review the photos she had taken of our special day. Thank you Gwen for your contribution in making our elopement so special, yet relaxed & stress-free!

This service was a great value and Gwen is great at letting you edit your ceremony as much as you want. There were a few instances that she definitely rubbed us the wrong way with her tone, but overall she did well with the ceremony and rehearsal and let us personalize our ceremony to what we wanted.

Personalized ceremony wowed guests
We had to postpone our wedding due to COVID. Even though we had eloped out of state we decided to still have our ceremony for friends and family at our postponed event. Gwen worked with us as our schedule needed to change. She communicated with us right up to the day before so that we would be ready to go. We received many compliments on our personalized ceremony and especially the love story. She keeps this aspect of the ceremony a surprise so it is fun to hear it told along with the guests. Thank you Gwen!

Lovely Simple Ceremony
We wanted a simple elopement style ceremony and found Gwen online. She was just wonderful.
Right from the very beginning, the communication was great until the day of. She has a great online tool which helps setup for the day.
On the day of, everything was on time. Very punctual. We asked our ceremony to be non-religious and she delivered. The words
she had for us at the ceremony were just amazing. She made it about our love and togetherness which we really liked.
I would recommend her to everyone reading this review.

Great alternative!
We had a great experience. Gwen was very accommodating. If you are looking for something intimate but don't want a 'courthouse' wedding I definitely recommend an elopement with Gwen.

Gwen was warm and open-minded right from the start. She was easy to communicate with and very patient with our last-
minute ceremony-writing process! She has a lot of resources to help you put together your big day, and she makes sure all the critical boxes have been ticked. We felt lucky to find her, and we would recommend her to anyone seeking a friendly face and kind soul to oversee their nuptials.

I would recommend Gwen. She is very nice and responsive to your needs! She provided a custom ceremony for my fiancé and I. Her prices are budget friendly, and she is flexible to change.

Unique Ceremony Experience with Some Refinements Needed
We loved that our officiant took the time to get to know us and create a personalized “love story” for our ceremony. She thoughtfully gathered both of our perspectives separately and wove them together into a script that felt unique to us. It was a really special touch and something our guests commented on as well.
That said, the love story itself leaned a bit on the factual side and could have been condensed — at times it included more detail than felt necessary, almost word-for-word from what we had submitted. During the rehearsal and final meeting, her approach was also very detail-oriented and precise about how everything should run. While that level of structure felt a little intense in the moment, we know it ultimately came from her wanting the ceremony to flow smoothly.
In the end, the ceremony was seamless and beautiful, and we’re truly grateful for the personal care she put into making it meaningful for us.

The ceremony was nice but her dog was in the living room with us. When we asked if her could be removed she said no because he would bark. He was everywhere and on our can't and 4 little girls the entire time. She was nice to let us use her home but if we would have known the dog had to be with us we may have done things differently. Also we have received numerous emails to review her.

Very disappointing experience
We had a highly frustrating experience with Gwen Downs that ultimately led us to cancel her services and find someone else for our wedding. From the start, she suggested a lovely outdoor location for our small ceremony. However, she insisted that she would not perform the ceremony if it rained, stating that she "reads from a binder and the pages would get wet." While we found this to be an unusual reason (especially since other officiants seem to manage just fine with simple accommodations), we tried to work with her and made extensive preparations to account for the weather, including purchasing umbrellas for all guests and renting a canopy per the venue’s suggestion.
Despite our efforts to reassure her that everything was covered, she continuously pushed back, sending curt replies like "Ok" and then following up later to say there would still be a problem. This back-and-forth went on for weeks, even though the venue and photographer had no issue with the potential for rain. Her unwillingness to adapt or provide a straightforward solution left us feeling uncertain and stressed in the days leading up to the wedding.
The final straw was when she emailed us the day before the wedding, reiterating that she would not show up if it rained. At that point, we realized we could not rely on her, so we canceled and went with another officiant who was far more accommodating and professional. Though we cancelled on her, we still asked for at least a partial refund given the inconvenience and complete lack of any services rendered, but she never replied.
If you're looking for an officiant who is flexible and dependable—especially when it comes to outdoor weddings—I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Extremely poor
I would not recommend her at all. She was very rude and unprofessional over the phone to me the day before my wedding. I reached out to her 3 days prior to my wedding date to discuss whether or not we should plan a back up plan due to the expected rain and storms. She told me at that time that everything would be fine and we would be under the covered area. The day before she contacted the photographer to advise me to reschedule my wedding to the following day. That was not an option for me as we had already planned a reception. I found an indoor facility at a church to have the wedding at the original time and asked her if she could come there. She was very rude and disrespectful to me over the phone. She kept complaining and making excuses about how it would inconvenience her. I told her we cannot predict the weather and I had a lot of things to do prior to my big day as well. She replied “well it’s YOUR wedding” and was not trying to accommodate me at all. She also texted me later asking why couldn’t the minister marry me , which was completely none of her business. She is just very rude and unprofessional. She does not have the personality for this business. It turned out I had to hire someone else at the last minute to do our ceremony. I reached out to her a couple weeks later and expressed my concerns and requested a refund of the $275 deposit I paid. She has yet to respond and it’s been a little over a week now. Terrible customer service.
