Truly Professional and Utterly Delicious

We had the best experience with catering by design for our June 2024 wedding. They were recommended to us by our wedding planner (who had done a bit of a pre-introduction) so I was impressed by how prepared they came to our intro meeting with ideas/suggestions. They took the time to listen to our preferences and asked about our food memories to help design the initial menu design (we did stations). They were super responsive during the menu editing process, taking our feedback and ideas and giving suggestions based on their experience. It was truly an excellent collaborative experience. I was so impressed by the breadth of food and experiences they can offer! It felt like the choices were endless but they guided us through. The tasting made us feel so special and I loved having them dine with us, taking notes along the way as we tasted and listening to our comments to make sure our menu was perfect! When I tell you our guests raved about the food I am not kidding. I was still hearing about it weeks later when we met up with some of our friends at another wedding. It was truly more than I could have imagined. Thank you so much CBD for making our day epic!

March 2025 Wedding

Catering by Design offers a top-notch professional experience. We loved the chance to work closely with them and pick from their many interesting and tasty appetizers.

We got married in March of 2025 and had many allergies in our large wedding, including a celiac as a groomsman. They took this consideration very seriously, and were able to assure us that the food would be prepared separately. There were also so many delicious gluten free options that it made it easy to pick several that we liked!

Many of our guests commented on how delicious the food was, and how much they loved our dessert (flambéed donut holes and ice cream!) The staff was efficient, friendly, and sent us home with a cooler of leftovers and personalized iced cookies with our initials and wedding date.

Incredible Catering for Galas

CBD provided an exceptional menu and experience for our Legacy Gala. From our initial call, numerous changes, to clean up at the end of the night they thought of everything. They were an excellent resource throughout the planning process right down to the night of. The event was flawless, and we could not have had better partners! I will definitely use them again.

Highly Recommend!!!

We used Catering by Design for our intimate wedding and they did a fantastic job. Even though our wedding was smaller compared to typical weddings, Catering by Design accommodated our needs and ensured everything was perfect. They were easy to work with and extremely professional! We had a five-course plated dinner for our wedding for our nine guests plus a mocktail bar! The presentation was perfect, service was amazing, and their food was outstanding. Our family couldn’t stop raving about how great the food was! We would highly recommend their catering services to anyone!

Amazing Food + Service! 5 Stars!

CBD did such a fabulous job at our wedding! The food was absolutely delicious! They did such a great job during the planning process to really understand our vision and come up with ideas of how we could make the vision come to life! They definitely made us feel special and not like we were just another couple. Their sales team is top notch when it comes to professionalism, responsiveness and customer service. This same level of service was experienced on our wedding day by all of the staff. We are so happy with our decision to hire them and couldn't imagine our day without them!

Lucky to work with these talented people!

We are so glad we were able to work with Catering By Design for our wedding weekend at both the Denver Botanic Gardens and Denver Performing Arts Center! Emily and her team were incredible knowledgeable, organized and accommodating throughout the whole planning process (and weekend) which included SO many moving parts. The tasting they organized was very thoughtful and I know they worked seamlessly with the chef we brought in - this all flowed perfectly into our wedding day which we couldn't have dreamt up. Special shoutout to Emily for her brilliant idea to make a personal cheesecake for my dad at the reception - special touches like this make her team and their work exceptional.

Super Customizable!

The food from Catering by Design was delicious! While creating the menu, we felt as though the Catering by Design team took our wants and budget into account! My husband and I are vegan and the Catering by Design team worked with us to ensure that at each station a vegan option was available. My dream was to have late-night french fries served at the wedding and Catering by Design made it happen!!! Also, Catering by Design did the cupcakes for dessert. It was so nice to not need another vendor in the mix.

On the day of my wedding, the Catering by Design staff was incredibly kind and always there when we needed them. My wedding guests still rave about how delicious and unique the food was (many Mid-west family members did not know what jackfruit was).

Bottom line, if you want good food and fantastic vendor interactions, hire Catering by Design!

Delicious food for an upscale ranch wedding!!

Thank you to all who rocked our special day. The food was SUCH a hit!! Alison and Ching were so so helpful and if we didn't like something they worked around it. no problem. My husband and I are total foodies so we no doubt were particular about how things were prepared, etc but they knocked it out of the park. And with a smile on their face to boot!! Guests have repeatedly mentioned how delicious the food was. One of the highlights for sure!

Excellent Catering Service!

We chose Catering By Design for our wedding and we are so happy that we did! As stressful as wedding planning is, Catering By Design made the catering and rental process seamless. We worked with Alycen during planning and the day of, who was fantastic. From my initial inquiry, all responses from CBD were prompt, and all my needs and questions were addressed. Amazing to work with, delicious food!

Wedding Catering & design

Catering by design not only did an amazing job working the menu for my wedding but also on making all of my flower dreams come true. They even constructed a custom altar similar to one I found online. The attention to detail was top notch! Would highly recommend!

Phenomenal

Catering by Design was the absolute best decision we made for our wedding. Ching and Alex identified our wedding vision from the earliest times we met. They helped us with everything - not just the food but the details regarding timing of the event, the alcohol, the service - truly phenomenal. They were ALWAYS lovely to work with, responsive no matter how many times we emailed or asked questions, and were so patient and kind and professional. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for any event you are planning - we have received more praise for their group, food and service than anything else! And we totally agree - they deserve every bit of praise!!!

Great service

We loved catering by design! The food was amazing the service was wonderful. Our only complain was our bill was significantly more than we were quoted originally. They told us they had sent an updated quote after we made some minor changes, but we never saw it. Just confirm with them a few months before hand to confirm it is within your budget.

As the mother of the bride I can tell you that Catering by Design, Raegan Brown, knocked it out of the park when it came to planning & managing our wedding appetizers/cocktail hour through what was hands down the best dinner we've had at a wedding. So so many people came up to us & commented on the quality of the food - we plated chicken and beef together with sides, and each plate was served hot, cooked to perfection, every bite more delicious than the previous! Raegan also noticed when we began to run low on wine, and she immediately went to work & found a vendor that could supplement our order, and worked with the staff at Planet Bluegrass to get the additional wine to the venue never missing a "glass"! No one was hungry or thirsty!!! Thank you Raegan! Catering by Design worked with Heather from Calluna to decorate the tables with the appointments we had provided earlier in the day, creating a most beautiful wedding day/evening. Catering by Design proved to be professional, courteous, exceptional value, every bite they served was delicious.

Catering by Design surpassed our expectations, and I would highly recommend them. They catered our wedding, and helped us to create a customized, Italian style menu that was absolutely amazing (and Italians are a hard group to impress). There is always a concern that the food will taste different when prepared in large quantities than what you tasted initially, but it was just as good as we remembered. I even had numerous friends and family members tell me that we had the best wedding food they had ever had! We worked with Ching, who was so kind, attentive and professional throughout the planning phases and Ching and her team executed a flawless event for us. We couldn't have been happier.

We had an outstanding experience with catering by design. We selected them for their hospitality and attention to detail from the beginning. Ching and her team were creative, flexible, and such a pleasure to work with. We had a few people in the party with allergies that were well taken care of. We were particularly excited about their idea to use local ingredients. We had our wedding at Chatfield botanic gardens, the chef specifically helped design our menu to include as much produce from the Gardens as they could!! Such a treat. They were flexible when we changed the app and dinner menu, helping us find an ideal budget. Ching was in close communication with us especially they few days before, which set us at ease. Thank you to the entire team for making our day so increadible!!!

Everyone Loved the food provided by catering by design! Working with Raegan and Pablo was great, they went above to make sure we got everything we wanted and how we wanted. And Raegan also stepped up during our final walk thru to take care of things when our wedding planner was late. I would defiantly use them again if given the chance!

Everyone raved about all of our food! This is not your average, boring wedding food. We worked with Brittany and she came up with a fun, imaginative menu that fit our tastes and personalities. She was also flexible when we kept changing out mind about what we wanted. The appetizers especially were incredibly clever, including a caprese salad ice cream cone and a tomato bisque shooter with a grilled cheese square. And she came up with a signature cocktail for us, which was a real crowd pleaser. Dinner was delicious, and Brittany was very accommodating of peoples' dietary restrictions. Then they topped it all off with two flavors of mini-milkshakes that were passed during dancing. The entire staff was professional, attentive, and friendly. Everything went perfectly. We are foodies, as were a lot of our guests, so food was important to us. We were definitely not disappointed!

I worked with Jeff and Pablo at Catering by Design. Jeff was flexible in working with us to create a menu that suited our staple dishes, but still made the whole meal very elevated and fun. We chose food stations, and had three unique stations that complimented each other but were diverse enough to accommodate all palates. We received such great compliments about the food. Pablo ran the operation the day of. I knew the food would taste amazing, but I was also so impressed with Pablo and his staff. They went above and beyond catering to myself and my husband. They were extremely polite and even offered to box up all the leftovers at the end of the night for us to take home.

Danielle and her team at Catering By Design did an amazing job at our Estes Park wedding! Our guests were blown away by the quality and presentation of the food. Many of our guests commented that is was the best food that they’ve had at a wedding. CDB really captured our vision; the chefs even created edible charcuterie centerpieces for us, which were a huge hit with our guests! The staff was professional and easy to work with. They really made the day run flawlessly. I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job CDB did. I would highly recommend them for any event!

My daughter contracted Catering by Design for her wedding reception at Spruce Mountain. All I can say is "truly amazing". We both lived out of state so needed a caterer that would make you feel at comfortable talking with them about anything, organizing meal ideas, table settings, etc. and they went above and beyond. We got to work closely with Stuart - a true professional who loves his job and makes ever detail matter - as he says "it is your day so let's go for it" and he did. The entire staff did an amazing job and the responses from the guest are still coming in saying it was the best food they have ever had at a reception - presentation was amazing, food was hot and the flavors spot on. I would highly recommend you contact Catering by Design for any catering needs.

I had a very difficult time getting responses from caterers. I think everybody was busy during the summer and didn't worry about weddings next year. I was anxious to get a lot of my wedding planning done early, so I decided to contact Catering by Design. I had nothing but great experience with them. All my wishes were taken into consideration. All I can say is WOW. From the first day I worked with them, to the wedding day, I felt as if they truly cared about not only my food, but me and my day. I worked with Stuart who was the most responsive, most caring, and most diligent wedding professional that I encountered throughout this entire wedding planning process. I was (and am) extremely impressed with his devotion to making my reception perfect; he's definitely the type of person that any bride would want to work with. He helped coordinate the rentals, provided useful and productive opinions when I asked him (about color, design, food options, etc.), and I felt he really took into account the theme of the wedding when helping me make decisions. He responded to every single email or phone call within hours, made sure we got to try some appetizers on the day of our wedding, and so many other little things that made working with Stuart and CBD so incredible. I don't think that Stuart was the actual "event coordinator" on the night of the reception (even though I worked with him all year), but I know he was there working hard all night making sure that everything we wanted would be taken care of. The food was also fantastic (hot, delicious, they cook on-site, etc.) and we received many compliments on the appetizers and dinner. Overall, I would highly recommend CBD and Stuart.

Catering by Design was amazing! Two things I was worried about were cold food or running out, and neither of these was the case. Jeff was responsive, easy to work with, and very flexible when I wanted to make a change. They cooked everything on site, food was hot and delicious. We got tons of compliments from guests weeks later on how great the menu and food were.They are extremely organized with the pre-prep before the event, and the staff that worked at our wedding was fantastic!! Even put my centerpieces together and broke them down at the end of the night.

We used Catering by Design for our 10/12/13 wedding in Fort Collins, CO, and we couldn't be happier with their services! Emily was wonderful to work with and the chef created very unique, beautiful, and tasty meals that all of our guests loved. We are still getting complements on how wonderful the food was at our wedding. CBD was very accommodating for our tastings, too. We had originally booked with a local Fort Collins caterer, but, after our tasting, we were very disappointed. We were about 10 months out from the wedding, but wanted to find a better company ASAP. Our wedding planner contacted CBD and they were able to squeeze us in for a tasting last minute on a very busy weekend for them! The food was fantastic and we immediately booked them. We were looking for unique, yet comforting dishes that were also presented beautifully and that is exactly what they delivered. They even allowed us a second tasting once we finalized our menu. We also had a special guest with a special diet and they were more than willing to accommodate her needs! When the wedding day came, we thought the food tasted even better than it had for the tasting! Their wait staff was very professional and organized as well and we received many compliments about them as well! Thank you for the wonderful experience, CBD! We wish you the best.

The food was incredible and beautiful to boot. I was so glad we decided to have a seated dinner because it gave me time to actually sit down and eat, and take a deep breath. While my husband and I did not get the opportunity to have the wedding we so feverishly planned due to unforeseen circumstances, I wanted to take the opportunity to write about the fabulous vendors we had the pleasure of working with anyways. When we booked with Denver Botanic Gardens, we decided on using their preferred caterer, Catering by Design. I had read their raving reviews for not just their food but their professionalism and flexibility, and I understand why! They allow you to design your own menu no matter how quirky, which makes your meal completely unique to your wedding. The cost was quite reasonable for letting you venture so far out of the cookie cutter catering options that are typically offered. And their communication was amazing! They were so quick to respond with even the most strenuous of tasks we required of them. When it came down to the possibility of a postponement or even cancellation of our wedding, they were very understanding and even allowed us to transfer our contract to a cousin to use for her wedding instead. Even though we did not get to actually utilize their services, we did get to try their food and it was quite tasty! I highly recommend them!

I highly recommend hiring Catering by Design for your wedding. My now husband and I were amazed at how easy they were throughout the entire planning process. Jen was absolutely fabulous and brought a lot of creativity to our menu.

The night of the wedding they exceeded our expectations. We are still hearing from our guests how amazed they were by the food.

I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was with Catering by Design. All I can do is encourage other couples to hire them without any hesitation to make their big day amazing!

Catering By Design was by far the easiest, most accommodating vendor we had the pleasure of working with. We couldn't have been happier with the level of service and professionalism we experienced throughout the whole process. Our main contact, Jennifer Quam, was a delight to work with and walked us through every step, from deciding appetizers and main courses, to finalizing rental orders. She made everything seem effortless, leaving us at ease on the big day knowing that all the details would be taken care of.

Our food was simply divine! The guests could not stop commenting on how delicious each dish was. We even had a plate of appetizers waiting for us at our table, since we missed the cocktail hour. A full plate of food was served to us at our seats, even though the dinner was buffet style. It really made us feel fantastic to have such great service.

At the end of the night, I was worried about tear down, but when I returned to the reception room, everything was cleaned, wrapped up, and stored in it's appropriate place. The day-of contact was unbelievably friendly and made sure to ask us about any outstanding items we might want to take home. Overall, the attention to detail, food and flexibility were all spot on. We would GLADLY recommend CBD to any bride looking for the perfect caterer.

I absolutely loved working with Catering By Design. From the first contact with them i knew they were the perfect caterer for our event. Brandi worked with us to create the perfect menu for our event. They don't have pre-set wedding menus, but instead will design your event down to the details. Their presentation is awesome, we couldn't have asked for a prettier layout. Their staff was attentive and very much on top of everything! We couldn't have hoped for a better situation. All our guests loved the food so much, there weren't many leftovers at the end of the night. Try the sliders, yum, yum!

CBD was above and beyond what I could have ever expected for my wedding!! Nicole, my event coordinator, was friendly, creative, helpful, patient and responded to emails within 30 minutes every time!! She coordinated a 225 person wedding with flawless ease--everything from our linens, alcohol and set up of the reception was directed by her staff to have our wedding flow perfectly. CBD has endless small details to make your wedding "yours" and unlike any other wedding you've ever been to! They also have an amazing green policy to check out on their website. CBD is recommended highly by this bride!!

The food was delicious and blew all my guests away. My officiant even said it was the best food he'd ever eaten at any wedding!! We had a plated dinner, and the staff served everyone at the table the same time, and acted very professional. All my guests complimented us and were so impressed with the taste and presentation.

Catering by Design was fabulous. Our wedding was in a state park, a good 30 minutes outside of the city, with no kitchen facilities or even running water. Given the site, we wanted someone who could grill us up a delicious picnic, instead of warming up already-cooked food in chafing dishes. Catering by Design had a WONDERFUL selection of picnic options, from simple burgers and hot dogs to teriyaki chicken breasts with pineapple and lime-cilantro marinated ahi-ahi (those last 2 are what we had). They have since spun off their picnic catering into a sister company called Denver's Picnic Company. (you can go to their regular website and link through). Their service was fabulous and thoughtful---the captain made sure to make up a plate for me before letting the guests at the food. They brought their own grills on site, and were super flexible about mixing and matching a menu we wanted, sliced our cakes at no extra charge, and happily helped us put their beverages in our own apothecary jars (instead of igloo coolers). I can't say enough good things about this company....and oh yeah, the food was delicious!

Jen Quam Howell was our caterer for our wedding day and she and the entire Catering by Design crew were absolutely fabulous. We did a "stations" wedding with heavy appetizers and a cocktail stlye reception. My guests had never been to a wedding like that and couldnt get over what a fun, party atmosphere that made the reception. Guests raved about the food. Many are still coming up to me saying "that was the best wedding food I have ever had-not your typical wedding sit down dinner and menu". We had lobster mac n' cheese, a fajitas station, a sliders stations, a martini glass salad station, and many pass arounds. Jen was beyond helpful throughout the entire wedding planning process. You truely do not need a wedding planner when you have Jen! She helped pick out the linens, matched color schemes, ordered the alcohol, arrranged the tent and seating situations (amongst many many other things!). We all know how chaotic wedding planning can be, but with Jen I always knew I had nothing to worry about. She went above and beyond to get the best deals and make the event work with my wants and budget. I highly reccoemend Catering by Design for any event as I know from experience what a creative, fun team of people this company is.

Thank goodness we hired Catering by Design for my daughters wedding. We choose them because they took the time to talk to my daughter and find that perfect food for her reception. The final selling point was.. they cook the food at the venue and do not "hot box". Twenty-four hours before the wedding, our venue was closed by the fire department. The first person on the phone to me was Brandi of Catering by Design. She looked over her list of venues that she had used before and called to check availability. Within a couple of hours we had a new venue and a new plan. We felt like Catering by Design took the extra steps to make this day wonderful. We received so many compliments on the fabulous food and the excellent service. I am so thankful for Brani Lipe and Catering by Design.

Catering by Design provided an EXCELLENT brunch for my wedding in September. From the first meeting to the wedding day everything went smoothly and the staff was such a joy to work with. Their menu selection is fabulous and they were able to customize various items for us. I worked with designer Kim Nuss and she was phenomenal! I never realized my wedding reception would be so worry free. They took care of everything so I didn't have to worry. The food was incredible! Our guests were talking about the food for months following the wedding. It did not taste like "catered" food. It actually tasted like restaurant quality food. I can not recommend them highly enough!

This is such an amazing catering company. Ask any vendor in the Denver area and they will tell you Catering by Design is one of the best in the industry. The presentation is breathtaking, even on parties of 80. The food is wonderful; we had a dual entrée of stuffed chicken and steak with soup, salad, two sides and a desert table all of that for just under $100 per person was well worth it. The very best thing about this company is the customer service. Upper management and sales reps, especially Stuart Holden, are the most wonderful people to do business with. They were always courteous, prompt, and helpful. Catering by Design managed my contract with the event rentals too, which was just one less thing to worry about. During the event, I vastly underestimated the lighting in the garden and Stuart and his team very quickly saved me from utter embarrassment- this was above and beyond what they are required to do. That is what you get with Catering by Design- Above and beyond.

When we were researching caterers we were surprised by how unresponsive some were considering we were looking to pay someone for a profitable service! Our contact for our wedding was Jennifer, and she rocked! She was even 7 months pregnant during our event and was so full of energy, and made sure everything was perfect. My husband and I planning our wedding from Virginia so we didn't even taste their food before deciding but my mom and made of honor were our trusted stand-in's and did an amazing job in choosing them. Jennifer drove all around the metro area for us several different times to meet with us at the venue, choose linens, and do our walk through. We were allowed to do a separate, private tasting when we got into town 2 months before the wedding and make necessary changes. They even did a custom cake for us! I bought all the mixes and frosting and sprinkles and they made a cake and 100 cupcakes for us! I couldn't believe how amazing they looked and how extremely reasonable their price was for our cake and cupcakes. I didn't have a wedding planner and Jennifer and the CBD team really filled in some gaps, picked up slack in terms of the decorating and everything was pulled off without a hitch! My only complaint was that I felt like the head of their team (not jennifer) could have been a bit more responsive to my husband and my personal needs the day of the wedding. But that is probably a small detail. To this day our family and friends talk about how amazing our food was and how much fun they had and much of that was due to Jennifer and her team! We would recommend them to anyone!

I have had their food at events before and it was fantastic! The guests all said they enjoyed the food a lot, and there was plenty to go around. We had some sticker shock, but I feel we got our money's worth overall. My only regret is not doing a tasting beforehand. I would have changed a few things. The food we were served at our sweetheart table had been sitting out a bit, since they had the plates ready for us on arrival, so it wasn't as tasty as I'd hoped or expected. The whole CBD team was FANTASTIC to work with overall, though I did hear from the alcohol vendor that they had a bit of difficulty the day of, though I think that was more an error on the part of the venue than the vendor. Overall, they're great!

We had met with quite a few other caterers in our area before deciding on Catering By Design. The real selling point is the service. You may pay a little more for the additional staffing (recommended more than any other proposal we received) but 100% worth it. They were speedy, kind, and attentive to detail. The only issue we had was a missed note from our final tasting so a certain component did not make the plates on the day of our wedding. The did contact us after the wedding though to make up for the error, taking complete responsibility. I would absolutely work with them again - the food was great, the service outstanding. Not to mention our guests loved everything from cocktail hour to the main course!

Tara was our contact. She worked to ensure we were able to find solutions for varrious dietary restrictions and it came off beautifully. She was able to offer suggestions to us outside of catering (floor plan, seating options, etc) and was great at finding us the right answers to all of our requests.

Everyone commented on the quality of the meal, and for being so competively priced, we were exstatic. The food was amazing.

Working with Catering by Design was such a wonderful experience. From the tasting to the wedding Brittany was supportive and available to ensure that our day went flawlessly! I even heard that during the reception CBD staff went out to get more of a special liqueur that we had run out of (we purchased our own alcohol). They also saved us an entire plate of appetizers as we were taking pictures during this time. They were thoughtful, professional and great to work with. We worked with Catering By Design for our wedding and they were amazing! Though it took some time to finalize our contract, they delivered exactly what we asked for and then some. Our wedding was at an outdoor venue with a nearby barn and it unexpectedly poured buckets of rain at our wedding reception. It was a complete downpour. We had planned for very hot, dry weather and had a very vague plan B in place to use the barn in case of rain but Catering By Design's staff was able to pull off our reception beautifully. They took down the entire set up, moved everything into the barn and kept our guests fed, with drinks in-hand and happy until dinner was served. Dinner ran late because of the rain delay but the food was amazing and everyone complimented the food, drinks and staff all night long. I've never been to a wedding were the guests were so vocal about how wonderful the caterer was. They truly saved the day with their responsiveness and great attitude. I am so grateful we were able to work with them for our wedding!

The food was great and the staff was awesome. They really took care of us through out the night, making sure we stayed on "schedule" and were happy. We ended up having to add more people 2 weeks before the wedding and they made it work. We added appetizers the week of the wedding per their suggestion and they couldn't have been more right! They worked seamlessly with the photographer, DJ, floral designer, etc. One thing, the wedding party didn't get any appetizers. We wished that they would have taken some to us during pictures.

Danielle and the staff at Catering By Design were awesome. First off, the tasting they did for us was amazing and really gave us a good sense of what our guests would be eating on our wedding night. Much better than some other tastings we did. Danielle was organized and attentive to our requests. She made some creative changes to our menu and even made recipes that I suggested. Catering by Design was pretty great! Most importantly, their food was wonderful. I've ruined chicken forever for all of our guests (it was stuffed with apricot & goat cheese, AMAZING!)! I also still dream about the meatball hors d'oeuvres we had! We had a great experience at the tasting and they made accommodations to my food sensitivities and personal preferences. The service at the wedding was good for the most part; they were attentive to my groom & I. However there was some confusion when it came to the cake, they handed it out to immediate family only, so everyone else was a little confused as to how to get cake. I also felt they cleared the food a little quickly, there was so much going on and so many people to greet, I wish they'd left out our food a little longer. They were pretty great though! Really Good Food!

The food was great - especially when planning a wedding on budget. They worked with me to create a menu I could be proud of, but didn't break the bank. I also ended up getting some money back, after the final date, from guests that could not attend.

The man managing our wedding was a little drunk or high towards the end of the reception, so that wasn't very professional, however, everyone got fed, had cake and always had a full drink, so I can't complain too much!

We were all full by the end of the wedding! The catering was great, but I wish they were just a little more flexible.

We met with several different caterers and finally decided to use Catering by Design. The tasting was amazing and we couldn't have been happier with the food. We were very happy with their responsiveness at the beginning but when we were ready to sign the contract, we couldn't reach our contact after numerous emails and phone calls. It turned out fine, so in the end we were very pleased. The food and service at the reception were great!

This caterer was wonderful. They worked with my budget, and helped me plan everything along the way. She even gave me her cell number.

For the most part, I really enjoyed working with Catering by Design. Our day of contact was very helpful and responsive to requests and the food was quite good. They were flexible and helpful in designing our menu to fit our tastes. The day of there were a few snafus, I left directions for how I wanted our reception venue set up, and then I arrived to find centerpieces in the wrong place, table cards not put out, and general disorganization. They were all minor things that probably only a bride would notice, and once my sister mentioned it to CBD they changed everything back quickly. However, it added a layer of stress to my reception that I didn't want to deal with. I would still highly recommend CBD based on price, responsiveness, and quality of food, but would urge brides to be very explicit about how you'd like your venue to look so that there are no confusions on the day of.

I chose Catering By Design to cater my vow renewal this past Saturday, and we were very happy with the food. We got lots of compliments from our guests, who noticed (like us) that CBD elevates flavors beyond the traditional so their customers don't end up with the dreaded "wedding food." We chose them for this very reason. Everyone at our table let us know that the food at our event exceeded their expectations; my husband and I were also very happy with everything we were able to taste. I have just a few small complaints, which I feel I should mention to serve customers in the future. These are small details, thus I still give CBD a high rating, and I want to stress the fact that in the end I was content with our experience. We did have some issues with communication; we were always responded to very quickly, but sometimes our questions were not answered. It could be that our representative just didn't understand what we were asking, but it was a bit stressful at times. However, because they always responded so quickly, the stress never lasted long, which was a plus. Our pricing also doubled after our first meeting, in the end causing us to go over-budget since we had based it on the original total. However, because their pricing was initially so reasonable, I still don't believe we were over-charged, and we are very happy with the service we received on the day of the event. We did have a small issue at the wedding with the staff (we ordered a cake with two flavors so our guests would have a choice) handing out slices of cake to our guests without giving them a choice. However, they were very apologetic, and we felt that they truly cared about our experience. The final thing I wanted to mention is that we received some complaints from other vendors about how difficult it was for them to set up the reception space when CBD was a half hour late (out of a 1.5 hour total allotted time). They were stuck in traffic, which I know can be unpredictable, but I would have thought they might prepare for the unexpected. For this reason our reception space was not completely set up, but again this is nothing our guests were aware of. Overall, I am satisfied with our experience and I think that our situation (with such a short set up time) would be difficult for any vendor. I would use CBD again for future occasions. UPDATE (9/29/11)::: Unfortunately, I have had to lower my rating of Catering By Design by one star since writing this review. I had to contact our representative after the vow renewal about a potential issue with the linen company, and she came off as rude and very short. It seems that, now that she has our money, she has no interest in practicing politeness. I now feel as though she was merely "putting on a show" throughout our prior communications. In my opinion, common courtesy is something that should be used regardless of whether or not you are being paid to do so. Half of a business is based on the quality of the products and services they provide; the other half is based on customer service. For that reason, I have decided to decrease my rating, and I would insist on working with somebody else if I were to use CBD in the future.

Food was such disappointment

My daughter got married this past Saturday in Botanical Garden In Denver. We decided to go with family style dining hoping that guests would have more choices and more food. We expected to have food be placed on each table and guests will take what they like and , if needed, more food will be brought to the table.
Well, that didn’t happen. We got served salad that was good but it wasn’t enough for the table. No more salad was brought.
The choice of meat was steak and fish. We got little pieces of beef, like sampling pieces, and that wasn’t enough for a table. There were thinnest fish filets, couldn’t pick it up to put on the plate, they were falling apart. There was some pasta and potato and that was also like for tasting. Bread rolls were hard and dry, probably day or two old.
That was it! Guests were left hungry.
Forgot to mention the wine. Lady would stand by the table with two bottles of wine and asked once:” Who wants the wine?” There was music, people were talking, and nobody paid attention to her question. I asked her to go around and ask each guest what wine they would like. I am Mother of the bride. I asked for red wine, she poured few drops in my glass and said that she will be back and never returned.
We requested, paid and expected superior food and service. We got minimal food and really bad service. That was the low point of the wedding.

They were great on paper and in person until the actual event came around. The night of, the cocktail hour was set up on the wrong side of the tent which, when winds came, forced all the guests into the tent prematurely. They gave us a fantastic price but the food was ok-good and they didn't make what we asked for. The guests seemed to like it but my was cold when I was served. Also, they cut the cake slices so big that we ran out early when we should have had lots left. We (bride and groom) didn't even get a piece! The broke about half of the glass bowls and vases I brought in for the candy table and claimed it was all broken when they received it (guests heard the glass crash in the middle of dinner!). Overall I was very disappointed with how the event went where catering was concerned. I ranked them high on flexibility because they agreed to anything to get us to sign the contract but they didnt' follow through at the event.

Our experience with Catering By Design was quite the mixed bag, but I would never work with them again or recommend them. We did quite a bit of shopping around for our wedding caterer and had narrowed it down to CBD and one other, both of which had great food at our tasting. CBD was more expensive, at the top of our price range, but we were so impressed with the coordinator we met with, Ching, that we decided to go with them. She was extremely professional, knew our venue very well, and seemed eager to work with us. We signed the contract and went back and forth with Ching over email a few times before we were very confusingly passed off to a different coordinator via email who I'm not going to name. Things went down hill very fast. Our new coordinator was not familiar with the venue at all, was not engaged in our event, and lacked attention to detail. He constantly made assumptions about what we wanted instead of asking us, which meant I had to constantly micromanage him. I hated this because I was a long distance bride so it was hard enough for me to keep all of the other details together on top of being on him about every detail he wasn't discussing with me. He placed an event rental order without consulting me about anything (type of glasses for the signature drink and so on). He ordered a bunch of tables THAT OUR VENUE PROVIDES FOR NO COST, which if I hadn't caught we would have paid hundreds of extra dollars for. He never apologized for this and responded in a snippy and unprofessional tone even though it was his mistake. Day of: CBD was supposed to get to the venue and set up chairs and tables first thing WHICH THEY NEVER ENDED UP DOING so our friends and family had to set up tables and chairs in addition to decorations creating a hugely stressful situation. Our coordinator was never to be found. The food itself was good and wait staff was great during the event but it didn't make up for the rest.

The food is great, but the service leaves A LOT to be desired. I was shuffled from contact to contact because no one would return my calls. They said they had no problem doing simple decorations (some fabric draping behind the head table, and over a few ledges) but they did not do what I asked at all. The servers were curt, and rude. They served the wine that we specifically said should be on the family tables to the guests, and then when I (the bride) asked for a glass, they said they were out. AND... to top it all, they RAN OUT OF FOOD, several tables before everyone had been through the line. The chicken dish that I had for the non-red meat eaters was completely gone before 50% of the guests had been through. I RSVP'd for 105 people, and only had 98 show due to snow, so there should have been plenty of food. All in all, I would shop around before chosing this caterer. A lot of other companies have good food AND good service, but not Catering By Design.

I would like to clarify that my reveiw is based (for the majority) on the experience that I had with the catering sales person that I had. She was absolutly HORRIBLE all around. She was terrible at getting back in touch with me promptly in regards to any changes that I wanted to make to the menu, it would take days and even weeks. Then when she did get back with me, the changes that she made were wrong. It took WAY too much time to get simple things accomplished to the point that it made me feel like our sales person was purposfully trying to take advantage of us. Then the day before the wedding my mother calls the catering company to verify some things and she is told that our sales person is no longer with the company. My mother responds with "well she is supposed to be working my daughters wedding tomorrow", the person on the other end of the line said "well all of ther clients were notified" and my mother responds with "well we were not". Needless to say the catering went off without a hitch, and the food was good, and a great value, but the stress and frustration that I was put through for the first 6 months WAY outweighed the positive outcome at the end.

We had worked out every thing to that last detail of how many oz of protein were going to be on each plate to the # of appetizers they were going to make. One month before my wedding, I called my coordinator to finalize the rentals only to find out that she does not work there any more! A couple of days later I received a phone call from the replacement. We decided we wanted to have a second tasting (which we had to pay for) to make sure that we were all on the same page. She claimed she had read all the previous notes for our wedding, but was so clueless during that meeting. The recipes were different, the portion sizes were half of what we had agreed on, and they were not even going to provide one appetizer per person! After a lot of back and forth, they had told us that our old coordinator quoted us at a price too low and we were going to have to pay more or cut the portion size. They had wrote us a long email defending themselves for trying to work around the price. I am so grateful we had that second tasting because the wedding day would have come and we would have received a totally different menu than what was initially agreed upon. We ended up firing them and going with someone else at the last minute. That was a stressful last month after planning this wedding for a year! If you end up going with them, make sure every little detail is written clearly in the contract. The only good thing I have to say about the company is their food is really good. There service is impossible to work with.
