I met Chef Mel with no idea what I wanted to serve for desserts. At first I wanted cupcakes but when I saw some of her wedding cakes I couldn't resist. The cake she made looked exactly like the picture I was expecting and tasted fantastic! We recently coordinated an out of town wedding. From the moment we reached out to CaraMels Bakery, Chef Mel was extremely responsive and helpful. She was able to create wonderful deserts for us based on our colors and wish list. The delivery process went smoothly and when her staff realized our desert table was in the sun, they worked with us to create a plan to keep everything from melting. Perfection!

Our Tiramisu wedding cake was amazing!!!
We got married down in Clearwater on July 12th and all our other vendors told us to get a Publix cake. We did a tasting and we just didn’t like it. We searched high and low for an amazing cake and we found it!! Chef Mel makes a tiramisu cake that is out of this world. I can honestly say we only had 5 pieces of cake left at the end of the night!! Our cake was one of the many hits of our wedding. Highly recommend using Chef Mel, she was very prompt with all her responses and runs a great company.CaraMel's Bakery's reply:

Perfectly delicious and so professional!
I hired Chef Mel to create a “Pittsburgh” cookie table for my daughters Clearwater Beach wedding. I called several bakers but chose Chef Mel because she was so excited to help me create this. She was so professional and friendly and was very quick to respond to all of my emails. Anything i wanted she was able to do without hesitation. We ended up ordering over 80 dozen desserts in about 18 different varieties. The wedding was almost a month ago and the wedding guests are still talking about the amazing and delicious “cookie table”. I am so happy i chose Chef Mel. Please call her for any dessert for any occasion and i know you won’t regret it! -

CaraMel's Bakery did a fantastic job on my vow renewal cake. I asked Chef Mel to let her creativity flow and she did not disappoint! I had several guests not even realize that it was a cake, it was so pretty. The colors she picked matched the color theme perfectly. The cake was delicious! Chef Mel is super easy to work with, she's on time, and very personable. I swear I was kind of vague explaining what I wanted and she executed my vision perfectly! -

Wonderful Cake! Wonderful Bakery!
I ordered a cake for my son’s wedding in Clearwater, Florida from Virginia. CaraMel’s had excellent reviews and beautiful images of cakes on her website. She put enough information on the website for someone to be able to order a cake without physically coming into the store. I sent in a request form and told her what we needed and used a cake on her website as a guide. The resulting lemon semi naked wedding cake was beautiful, tasted delicious, and more importantly, was neither dry nor too sweet. Her ordering process was so simple that I got the ordering of the cake out of the way early and my mind was always at ease about that part of the wedding being taken care of. Although I don’t live in Clearwater, I would recommend her bakery to anyone! -

Melain's tiramisu cake was hands down the best wedding cake I've had. Her dessert shooters were also a huge hit. The frosting and artistry that went into both was amazing. The donuts were a little dry, however, I'm still dreaming about that cake. She is also very reasonably-priced and a smart businesswoman. -

Exceptional Experience - Response by a Wedding Planner
Working with CaraMel’s bakery for my wedding cake was such a great experience. I am a wedding planner and have been in the industry for 10 years now. I had no ease or stress when working with this bakery. And the product delivered was above my expectations. The look of the cake was exactly what I had envisioned along with the taste. It tasted even better than when we tasted it. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve worked with new cake bakers that do not deliver and it’s a huge let down, but this will not happen with CaraMel’s bakery. They will deliver above your expectations. -

Beautiful and unique!
We absolutely loved our wedding cake and it was a hit with our guests! Our wedding took place at Sunken Gardens in St Pete, Fl and CaraMel was able to deliver our cake to the venue and arrange fresh flowers on site. We also selected one of her unique flavors, jasmine, to pair with our garden wedding and it was truly delicious. Absolutely recommend. -

Working with CaraMel's Bakery was a great experience! Our wedding was a bit unconventional because we wanted a mini-dessert table for our welcome reception and a donut tower for our morning wedding ceremony/reception. CaraMel's let us customize everything we wanted - and even provided GF/dairy free options for our guests. All our guests commented on how delicious the desserts AND donuts were! the staff who dropped everything off to the hotel were friendly and helpful. -

Amazing work!
Mel made our cake and cupcakes for our big day. She was very helpful in helping us decide on what we needed for our guests and to fit our budget. She stayed in contact with us and was always there if I had any questions. Our cake was MORE than perfect and everyone loved the cupcakes! The flavors were so good, and way better than you would find at some store. I am so glad we chose her for our cake and would highly recommend her again! -

Our wedding cake and cupcakes were so delicious and beautiful. Mel was able to give us the different flavors we wanted and they were so good. We had 3 different flavors- vanilla cake with salted caramel frosting, chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, and a lemon cake with a berry filling and cream cheese frosting. Highly recommend! Our cake from Chef Mel was DELICIOUS! Months prior to the wedding, we were so impressed with our tasting, that we chose Chef Mel immediately. The flavor of her cakes is so authentic, it is obvious she does not used a boxed mix. We asked for black frosting with gold splatter, but did not want fondant, so she suggested buttercream frosting with black edible spray-paint and edible gold leaf. Our cake not only tasted great, but was beautiful and classy. Chef Mel was professional, friendly, and helpful, a real pleasure to work with. We were so pleased with the wedding cake, and we will be ordering birthday cakes from her in the future. We would definitely recommend Chef Mel and The Colors of Food to anyone looking for a great experience and an exceptional, one-of-a-kind wedding cake!CaraMel's Bakery's reply:

We had a small wedding so we only got a one tier wedding cake, we decided to get lemon. At first bite, it was a bit strong on the lemon but not too overpowering, I think the cake and the frosting were both lemon and I think it would have been better to do a plain frosting with the lemon cake. But it was super delicious and sweet and tangy. Overall really good and Mel is so easy to work with, she really makes it so less stressful! -

My husband and I got married in December of 2023 and I want to warn all the "brides and grooms to be" who are looking for a vendor, to highly consider hiring someone else. The tasting was wonderful, we met with Melian (Chef Mel) “the owner” and she'd prepared a selection of different cakes of different flavors to try. We showed her a picture of a wedding cake I'd liked on Pinterest and it matched our royal blues and had the effect of snowfall to match our winter theme on the water (we got married on the Yacht Starship - also a 1 star review) and she said she could make it happen. We trusted her, ordered a selection of desserts with the cake, and communication was good leading up to our wedding day.
I received notification that her assistant would be dropping off the cake on our day-of, and provided me her name and number to reach out to her which I did on the eve of our wedding day to confirm the time of delivery. I also shared her information with our coordinator (who was supposed to handle the delivery - but more of that in my other review).
The afternoon of our wedding, the cake and desserts were due to arrive and be unloaded at 1:30pm (wedding guests arriving at 3:30pm). After 3pm our coordinator informed us the cake had not been delivered yet and asked me for the name and number of the vendor. We found out that our cake had been delivered to the wrong ship almost an hour away but were on their way - which ultimately resulted in our wedding ceremony and sailing time being delayed an hour!
Not only did this cause an awful ripple effect, including not being able to do a cake-cutting ceremony, but when we saw the cake we were shocked at how cheap it looked. It did not resemble what we had asked the chef to prepare at all - it was more a pale, ombre bluish color with random white pearls scattered around it in clumps (like our own cake had a breakout from the stress it endured) and was smeared like it absolutely had been bumped around or thrown together carelessly.
When we finally cut into the cake, it was dry and was the worst tasting cake I’d ever had, and not one of my guests ate it. There was a big red plastic straw of something too so when the cake was cut into, shreds and shards of red, sharp blades of plastic ended up in our cake!
We ended up throwing the WHOLE CAKE AWAY.
I WILL NEVER recommend CaraMel’s Bakery to any bride and groom, and I will never order from them again for any occasion. I was so angry, hurt, and disappointed in them - not only because they never called to confirm the details of delivery proactively, but then spending almost $1000 for something we couldn’t even eat, and after knowing they brought the cake to the wrong location and didn’t end up arriving until close to 4pm when they were supposed to be there at 1:30pm, I never received a phone call or an apology from Melian (Chef Mel) “the owner.”CaraMel's Bakery's reply:

It's important to clarify that the address you provided in the invoice was incorrect, which unfortunately led to the delivery mishap. As a result, I had to compensate my assistant double for the delivery, causing a delay that resulted in the cake softening up. Upon reviewing the pictures of your cake later, I became concerned that it may not have met your expectations. My assistant and I diligently contacted all clients serviced during my absence to ensure satisfaction, but regrettably, we did not receive a response from you. Despite these challenges, I proactively reached out to offer a partial refund to offset any inconvenience caused. Your satisfaction is paramount to me, and I am committed to resolving this matter promptly. Please don't hesitate to contact me so we can arrange the refund and address any other concerns you may have.
