Best Cakes we've ever had
For the last 4 years, Cake Plus has been our go-to for All occasion cakes, and it’s truly become a family tradition. Every year, Mario takes the time to sit with us and bring Vincent’s ideas to life with so much patience and creativity.
Not only are the cakes absolutely stunning, but they are hands down the BEST tasting cakes we’ve had anywhere. Everything tastes fresh, homemade, and high quality — never overly sweet or artificial.

Delicious cake!!
Chef Mario did a fantastic job with our wedding cake! It was so delicious and looked absolutely beautiful. I had never tried their pound cake prior to our wedding cake tasting, but now we’re addicted and have stop in every couple of weeks to get some. Seriously, it’s that good! We chose to go with the vanilla and chocolate pound cakes and our guests loved it! Mario was so kind and easy to work with throughout the process. We also ended up ordering personalized cookies for wedding favors, which turned out perfectly as well! I definitely recommend choosing Cakes Plus! -

Amazing choice

Great team!
Marco was the best! Overall experience was great! They nailed the design and it came out perfect! All the venue details were relayed months ahead of time, so it was truly wonderful to not have to worry about the cake at all leading up to the wedding. True professionals. Cake tasted amazing! -

Thank you Nina Torres and her staff for the beautiful cake they made for our wedding. It was beautifully made with the colors I chose for our wedding .The cake had so much flavor and it was so moist it was delicious. Nina and her staff are amazing!!! I had to have a traditional "Puerto Rican" flavor wedding cake (there is such a thing....and believe me it is amazing) and I was so happy to find Nina did these! Not only did the cake look amazing, but even my relatives from Puerto Rico commented on how incredible the cake was! And those who had never had it before went crazy over it. Everyone loved the cake so much, that we had none left over. Not a bad problem to have. I could not be happier with their services and quality. Amazing!!! -

Oh my! I couldn't be happier. Mario took everything I was imagining and put it to life. I never once felt that I couldn't trust them with our cake. Every detail was perfect! We had a cake and cupcakes and pure deliciousness is what we experienced. -

After trying several cake vendors, we were referred to Cakes Plus. We scheduled a tasting. It was by far the best I had ever tasted. When we were there, they were almost completely booked. They agreed to do the cake but could not deliver as they did not have any delivery available on our day. Since our venue was so close we decided to pick up. (Which I was very nervous).
After meeting with Cakes Plus, and discussing our team, she presented the idea of playing off the bow tie theme of the invites. The Cake was freaking gorgeous. Much better than expected. Her pricing seemed really high compared to the others we had met. But we decided the quality was worth the extra. I am so glad we decided on using Cakes Plus. Our cake was the best I had ever tasted. Most people don't remember a wedding cake, but people are still talking about ours. It was incredibly moist and seemed to get better over time. Everyone was raving about it all night. We came home with about 5 slices left. -

Bride Review:
Nina and her team made an absolutely stunning cake for my wedding last Saturday. The amount of detail put into this cake blew me away. Perhaps the best part of the cake was HOW DELICIOUS IT WAS!!! Wedding cake, in general, can be pretty boring and dry. Nina's cakes are fresh, buttery, and so, so unique! You could really taste the Amaretto and Brandi in the cake... divine!!
MOB Review:
Nina, and Mario's experience shows, on the beautiful and tasteful cake that they made for my daughter's wedding. they were able to present the beach theme that my daughter wanted, in a very beautiful and delicate porcelain look cake. Everybody love it!! -

Cakes Plus is a great place to order your cake. My wedding was small (about 30 people) and I worked with the owner to come up with the best design, size, and decor for the cake. She knew exactly what to suggest. The cake turned out to be beautiful and tasty. It was exactly how I wanted. -

Let me start by saying that for me the most important aspects of my wedding for me were my dress, my flowers, and my cake. I am an avid baker and had the exact idea of how I wanted my cake to look and taste like. Cakes Plus made me my dream wedding cake! When I had my initial consultation I explained sort of the idea I had in mind but it was hard to put it into exact words. Right there in front of me they drew up exactly what I was trying to describe, it was amazing. They suggested things that I had not thought of that ultimately made the cake perfect beyond words. They day of my wedding I was amazed at how gorgeous the cake was and most importantly...it was DELICIOUS!!! -

We didn't have a traditional wedding cake at our reception, but I ordered a groom's cake for the rehearsal dinner. We had a baseball cap representing his favorite team. We went with their pound cake, and it was delicious! The cake easily served 30 people (with plenty left over) and cost around $200. -

Mario did an amazing job on our wedding cake! We absolutely love the specialty pound cake and wanted to incorporate it into our wedding (we have been fans for years). Mario did an outstanding job on our wedding cakes! We had a traditional cake as well as a special Cincinnati Bengals grooms cake. He sat down with us at our consultation and drew out our ideas so we could see what the cakes would look like. Not only did they look fantastic but they tasted fantastic as well. We went through the Sandpearl Resort, they had a package deal with Cakes Plus where they would show us what was within the package and we could go from ther. Mario from Cakes Plus was great. He showed us what was in our price range and was able to help design a cake based on detail I liked from several examples. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was that they did not offer cake tasting =( -

My wedding cake was amazing. The guests were really amazed on how it look, from the decor to the taste of the cake. If it is something your guest will remember, it is the wedding cake. Though I admit it is pricey, it justifies with the amount of work put into it. They also have a backup cake, in case anything happens to the cake day of (accidents do happen). They never had once anything happen and they been on business for over 10 years and highly recommended as a vendor in Tampa. I came inside with a dream cake I had in mind, and they put it to reality. -

The staff are very friendly and informative. However, for even the simplest of cakes the price is quite high ($1,200+ for 3 tier cake with minimal design). The cake also did not seem fresh upon delivery. The fondant was rock hard and seemed as though it had been made the day before. Once you got past the fondant the cake was good. -

Our wedding cake was BEAUTIFUL! Nina Torres thought of a wonderful way to incorporate our wedding colors into our cake. She is also very talented when it comes to sugar flowers and made a beautiful cake topper of sugar flower hydrangeas.
Not only was our wedding cake beautiful, it was also delcious! We got the house speciality and we just loved it. My husband and I can't wait until our first anniversary so we can eat the top! -

This cake was soooo delicious. So many people told us it was the best wedding cake they ever tasted. People were going back for seconds! Unfortunately the cake was slightly lopsided and the icing around the bottom was uneven and chipped. When you pay so much for a cake it should look as good as it tastes. -

I was working with cakes plus from out of stat and through my mom who lives here. WE were first told that we couldn't have the flavor we wanted and i have now learned that lots of other bakeries do that flavor. The fondont on the cake was so thick that my grrom and i had trouble cutting out cake. THe fondont on the cake was also cracked and had wholes in it. Me being pastry chef i designed my cake myself and had my mom take it to marieo and we were told that it would be no problem. The cake that i got on my wedding day was not my design and i was disappointed. They are over priced and do very bad work i will not reccomemd them. The owner off the company is also very rude they supposed to arrive to set our cake up at 3pm and were gone before 2:45pm i had to put on my own cake topper. I'm very very disappointed. -

Don't ever use this vendor. The bottom layer of our cake was not cooked all the way. Both our caterer and wedding planner agreed. We call the owner, Nina, to make her aware of the situation. Her response was, without seeing the cake, there was nothing she could do. We were also informed that she's been in business for 22 years and she knows how long to cook a cake.
On top of it all, we gave her a photo of a cake on their website that we liked. It had gorgeous daises on the top layer. Our cake...one flat daisy in all yellow. -

While planning my wedding, the cake was one of the things I was most excited about. Like many brides I spent a lot of time and effort pouring over Pinterest until I found my perfect cake. The owner of cakes plus assured me that I would be awestruck by my cake on my wedding day. It turned out to be the biggest disappointment of my day. I gave very clear instructions on my expectations. It was a winter wonderland cake and was to have beautiful crystal snowflakes of varying shapes and had crystal and snowy accents. The piping was crystal/snowy and it was very detailed. I showed the owner the picture and said the only differences I wanted was for the cake to be 3 tiers, for it to not have flowers, and for the piping to be more crystal/snowy than blingy. What I ended up with was a creation that looked less impressive than a child's birthday cake that a parent tried to create off a women's world article. The fondant had dents, the cake was tilted, and it had none of the details I specified and was promised. The piping was literally just the fondant rolled and wrapped around the tiers. The snowflakes were all plain white fondant and were sloppy. It was honestly embarrassing and my guests either asked what happened or didn't even notice it. I did not get a single compliment on the appearance of my cake at the wedding. I came back to the owner and expressed my disappointment. She gave me half the money back, but I honestly should have gotten all because she completely dropped the ball. It tasted good but the appearance was unacceptable. And it was over $800. If you only care about the taste of the cake then go ahead. If you want to make sure your wedding cake looks like your dream, you're taking a gamble.

Let me tell you why we did NOT choose Cakes Plus for our cake. We had an unfavorable, alarming experience with Nina. She gave us about 4 types of cakes but only a small spoonful amount of each flavor. The bite size was about a quarter size wide and about 1.5 or 2 inches tall, with a small dallop of icing on top and a flat piece of fondant on top of the filling. So once you ate that, you had to really concentrate on the taste because it's not like you could try it again, as we were only each given a bite size. I am not sure how Nina thinks that this will win people over.
Next, she gave us a stack of bookmarks and we quickly bookmarked several pictures in her books. Then to our surprise, she pointed at 2 pictures and said "Pick one!" so this was her way of narrowing down our choices!! She was very serious, and it was like American Idol style judging of cake. So beware with Nina - she will want you to do an elimination round with those bookmarks - she seriously wants you nix one of the two, everytime you compare two, without even peeking at your other favorites. It's not an effective way, at least not for us. The tone was not good at all. We felt very much pressured to settle with. We also felt like we would need to stay strictly to a design that is already in the books, without changing it at all.
I made sure to alert Jennifer Payne at Clearwater Beach Hyatt since this is one of their preferred vendors. Jennifer told me that the best person to do the cake tasting at Cakes Plus is Mario, and judging from the reviews it does indeed look like Mario has all the customer service, skill, and finesse that Nina is lacking. However, we had already visited Chantilly Cakes immediately after Cakes Plus and what a refreshing experience!! Des at Chantilly is very professional and she gave us SLICES of cake to try, scoops of filling and piles of icing - not bite size amounts! She kept mentioning other flavors readily available in case we wanted to try them too, but we were stuffed, impressed, and had already made our decision! :) We are ever so pleased that we went with Chantilly, it was really a no-brainer anyway.
Even though we did not go with Cakes Plus, I still remember this experience quite vividly and really wanted to put my experience here because I would hate for another bride to "settle" for Cakes Plus when better can be had quite easily. -

I bought a cake from this vendor for my fiance's birthday. I ordered the cake by phone and sent photos of what I wanted via email since I live out of the country. I sent two options and let the baker decide what cake based on what they were able to do. The more expensive option was chosen. The cake cost just over two hundred dollars. I requested that the vendor send photos of the cake once it was finished. I never recieved them. I did however get photos from my fiance and the person I had pick up the cake and I was not happy with what I saw. The cake was supposed to be a perfect replica of a male Marine combination cover. I sent photos of both the cover and a cake that had been done in that style. I also sent a photo of a simple sheet cake in the even that the other cake was too complicated. The photos I recieved were of something I could have easily done myself. The top of the cake was entirely too high. The fondont was uneven and according to my fiance, there was a crack in the top of the cake. Luckily my fiance is an easy man to please, that however does not mean that his cake gets to be thrown together any kind of way. He did say the cake was delicious. -

We heard great reviews about this place. So we went in for a tasting and to meet with Nina. We were told by her that they could make anything we wanted in any flavor we wanted. She let us taste her "awarding winning cake" and that was it. She pressured into signing that day, with a promise that she could make us a cake in any flavor that we would love. We made numerous trips there to BUY her sample cakes to try to find one we were happy with. We wanted a simple marble cake with butter-creme icing. Very simple and elegant, no complicated design to it, we were told that she couldn't guarantee that if she made the cake as we requested that the frosting wouldn't run off. We took our design to multiple other places, and were told that it wouldn't be a problem and they would guarantee us a cake as requested. We unfortunately lost our deposit with Cakes Plus, but we very happy with the new vendor we found and had a beautiful cake for the wedding. -

I'm writing this for any Mother's of the Groom looking for rehearsal dinner cakes...
I ordered a beer stein cake several months ago to be made for my son's rehearsal dinner. To make sure the baker knew exactly what I wanted, I brought in a photo of the cake I wanted replicated along with the website address so Mario could take a closer look. When I went to pick up the cake this past Friday, they were still taking pictures of it, and when it was finally brought out, it was the most atrocious monstrosity I have ever seen. The beer emblem was simply piped on-I could have done a better job myself! and the beer stein basically looked like Oscar the Grouch's trash can. It weighed ten tons and they had no carrying box for me to bring to St. Pete. The platform he dumped on my lap in the car was sticky and I had to hold the cake myself while a friend drove to the restaurant. Later I found out that the red velvet cake I asked for, which is my son's favorite, was not red velvet at all...it was white or yellow cake dyed pink! The baker is incredibly rude and an utter ego maniac, and I feel like the $350 he charged me for this cake was a complete waste of money. The baker's response? "You can just leave the cake "...Over promise and barely deliver-that's what you get at Cakes Plus!
