Best ever cake

Got marble wedding cake. OMG, best ever! Fresh, delicious, beautiful. Incidentally great chocolate chip cookies too. Staff so attentive and professional.

Cakes by the sea did a phenomenal job

I recommend cakes by the sea for your wedding cake, and cupcakes for your big day. Chris at cakes by the sea was such a pleasure to work with and my cake was both beautiful and delicious. I loved that I had the option to pic several different flavors for each tier everyone raves about how great the cake tasted. Excellent job everything was so fresh and the price was very reasonable.

Delicious and Beautiful

Cakes by the Sea did an amazing job on our wedding cake. Kris took our vision for a beach themed cake and executed it perfectly. Our guests loved the design and the flavors we chose. We would highly recommend this bakery for any event.

Perfect Design

Love love this place!!!! Delicious cupcakes and cookies too!!!! I found the perfect design here for my beach theme wedding!!!!! They offer great options on the fillings and great selections on designs. Friendly and professional staff.

Delicious!

We had a gorgeous wedding, but the one thing that our guests were raving about days later was the cake. WOW! We opted for a 3 tier cake with a few cupcakes for our relatives that have nut allergies, every single bit of it was gone by the next day!

Kris and her cake crew gave us great recommendations on flavor combinations, they were very accommodating.
We live in St. Louis and were having a destination wedding in Ocean Isle Beach, so Kris was quick to respond to my emails and questions. She was sure to get us in to taste the cakes when we were in town a couple of months before the wedding just to make sure we were happy with what we were selecting.

I cannot wait for our one year anniversary for two reasons: celebrating with the love of my life that we have a year of marriage under our belt and eating the top tier of our AMAZING cake!!!

The 3 tier wedding cake was absolutely delicious. It was moist, flavorful and enjoyed by all. Delivered to our venue and set up on time!! I highly recommend this bakery!!

Hands down some of the best cupcakes we have ever tasted. My family ranted and raved about how good they were and my husband and I agreed. Being out of state we had no idea what we were expecting and when our DJ (Jim from Elite Entertainment) recommended this company we said why not. But everything looked amazing and tasted fabulous. We loved this little cake shop. We came in to taste different flavors and were blown away by all the choices. Chris asked what we were looking for and really delivered. The cake tasted so fresh and looked perfect! It was delivered on time and with no mishaps. Great design, great flavors, and a great price. Thank you so much Chris for all your help!

We had the marble cake with vanilla filling and it was amazing! The design they put on our cake plus the set up was beautiful and fit our coastal theme perfectly! I will order birthday cakes from them in the future!

Cakes by the Sea and the ladies that work there were amazing. I came in overwhelmed with the idea of picking a cake, but they listened to my ideas and helped me create our wedding cake from a design they had on hand mixed with my ideas! It was absolutely beautiful and so us. It tasted phenomenal as well! Cakes by the Sea also created our groomsmen cake for the rehearsal dinner. When I gave her the idea I had (tackle box) she took it and ran. I sent her a few pictures as suggestions, but really gave her full reign on the creation. I was not disappointed. It came out amazing! So creative and full of detail! I would recommend Cakes by the Sea to everyone!

I was so happy with this place for my daughters wedding. She went with her now husband earlier to taste test , so when we went down for actual wedding I wanted to know what I was getting for my money so I went in and they let me taste anything I wanted . I was so surprised by all the different styles they had done , some very unique. They delivered to our reception site and even give our waiter at the restraunt where it was some of the extras in advance!! The only thing I had to do was return the cupcake stand the next day . I was very pleased and would definitely recommend them and I will stop by again ,they sell cookies in their store too, we bought them for our wedding party to enjoy while they were getting ready!

Cakes by the Sea made by beach themed cake... and it was amazing! It was a beautiful addition to the reception and tasted incredible. The two beach chairs on the top with a little Mr. and Mrs. cookie was a great change from the traditional bride and groom cake topper. If you are looking for a beautiful beach themed cake, Cakes by the Sea is the place to go.

Kris and her team were wonderful! My original cake baker fell through a couple of months before my wedding, and since my wedding was out of state, I wasn't able to go and meet her and do a tasting. However, they were extremely helpful on the phone, worked with the photos I sent, and were extremely affordable for a Bald Head Island delivery fee. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of not getting an extra tier to take home and the whole cake disappeared without us getting more than the ceremonial bite!! Oh well, great reviews from all the guests!!

We got a simple marble cake with netting design and sea shells. The cake was absolutely beautiful and very tasty. I just wish I got to eat more of it!

The best tasting cake ever! We went twice for tastings and each time Chris was extremely polite and helpful. She was honest about some of the example pictures we brought in possibly being challenging, but worked with us to customize a design that we loved and she felt confident in creating. The final product was better than we had envisioned and the flavor could not be beat!

My husband and I ordered a cake from Cakes By the Sea for our wedding in April 2015. We are from Canada and thought it might be difficult to express what we were looking for via email, but the staff was great at listening to our ideas and reassuring us we were getting what we wanted. When we saw our wedding cake for the first time we were absolutely blown away how perfect to every detail it was to what we described to them. Not only was it beautiful it was also the most delicious tasting cake we have ever had!! Next time we are in myrtle beach visiting we will definitely be taking a trip to this store for something delicious.

THIS WAS THE BEST TASTING CAKE. Loved the icing. We had asked them to design the cake like our parents' wedding cake and they did a great job with replicating it. It was so delicious. We also bought a small birthday cake while we were there and that was to die for. Honestly one of the best cakes we have had ever. Chris and Terri are very easy to work with. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Wonderful vendor to work with. I sent a few pictures for what I thought I wanted my wedding cake to look like. They worked with that and when I visited for cake tasting I got to see some of their ideas as well. We worked together to design my cake. It was beautiful!!! Three tiers, blue and white with edible shells and my Disney castle cake topper. Not only was it beautiful it was DELICIOUS!!!!! I had lemon, chocolate and carrot cake. Fillings are included in the price, as was my cake stand. I had a mix of cake and also cupcakes. Everything was delivered on time. When my mom returned the cake stand after the wedding they gave her another cupcake as a treat. Chris is a really great person to work with. The cake looks like fondant, but is NOT-it is DELICIOUS icing. They do beautiful work!

I sent a picture of the cake I wanted with my wedding planner to Cakes By the Sea, and they made the cake look exactly like I wanted it. The cake also tasted awesome, and I'm not really a fan of cake. I definitely recommend Cakes By the Sea for any beach wedding in the Carolinas.

We had cupcakes for our wedding instead of a cake and we were so happy with Kris! We went in for a tasting about two months before and were able to taste as many as we would like-they were all so good it was hard to choose! We ended up with Red Velvet, chocolate, lemon meringue and coconut cream and our guests loved them! Kris decorated each one with a white chocolate seashell (our wedding was on the inter-coastal waterway at Brick Landing Plantation). This was also a destination wedding and Kris was always easy to get in contact with by phone or through their website www.cakesbythesea.com. Such a pleaure to work with her and the cupcakes were delicious!!

Kris was wonderful to work with. She remembered our conversation even months after or tasting testing. The cake was exactly what we asked for 3 flavors and three fillings. She even was able to design the topper of 2 beach chairs with towels laid over the back in the colors of the wedding with the bride and grooms name on them! Awesome. We got rave reviews on the cakes and the awesome! I would gladly give Cakes by the Sea 5 stars!

Kris went above and beyond to help us pick a new design for our cake. We thought we knew what we wanted and even after traveling 13 hours to see her ... She changed the whole order .... Thank u ... That was a wonderful finishing touch

Cakes by the Sea made my wedding cake for me in July. We had a strawberry bottom tier, marble middle tier, and red velvet top. I described to Kris what I wanted on the cake over the phone and it looked better than I ever imagined! Do not hesitate to use them even if you are having a destination like I was. They are not lacking in any area of the business.

The cake was so beautiful, I almost didn't want to cut into it! However, I am certainly glad I did because it was DELICIOUS! I got so many complements the night of the wedding on how beautiful it was. They really did such a great job! I highly recommend this bakery.

Cake was awesome, delicious and SO SO pretty!! My sisters got a cake from here for my bridal shower and I fell in LOVE. I ordered a cake from here for my wedding at the last minute and it was perfect! We even got free cupcakes when we returned the beautiful cake stand! My cake place from now on!

Cakes by the Sea was phenomenal! I am a little late in doing my review, but better late than never, right? About three weeks before my wedding, the person who was supposed to be doing my cake backed out. I was in a frenzy trying to find a cake. Called Cakes by the Sea by recommendation of a relative and they gladly accepted my request for a wedding cake to be done in that short amount of time. I was a little worried because CBTS doesn't use fondant so I didn't think my cake would be as "pretty." Boy, was I wrong! I didn't see my cake until my new husband and I entered our reception for the first time. It was gorgeous! The hand designed flowers were so detailed and intricate, I could not believe my eyes! I couldn't believe the effort that was put into this cake at such last minute. The buttercream was so finely spread and smooth that it looked like it could've been fondant, but with a wayyy wayy better taste! Everyone raved on and on about how delicious this cake was. Definitely worlds better than any fondant cake I've ever had. It was so moist and fluffy. I have no regrets and would have to recommend this bakery to anyone getting married in the Myrtle Beach/NC Brunswick Island area (We got married in Ocean Isle Beach and CBTS delivered).

My daughter's fiancee's one request was that the wedding cake be moist and good, but dense and dry like so many he had had. So they went to several places for tastings and they were all good, but just by chance, omeone mentioned Cakes by the Sea and they decided to try it. They were blown away! The cake was moist and the icing was just right. My daughter had a very specific cake table set up and Cakes by the Sea helped them decide what size and combination of layers they would need. We had Chocolate Marble, with chocolate butter cream filling, Strawberry with strawberry butter cream filling and Relvet. It was a big hit!

Cake was amazing!!! Guests told me it was the best wedding cake they had ever eaten! The decorating on the cake was so outstanding. The shells looked liked they were just picked up off the beach!

Our cake was a big highlight of the night. We received so many wonderful comments. Even one of our guests who is a baker herself said that our cake was the most beautful and best tasting cake she has ever had. I had to change our cake about 3 or 4 times and the delivery location as well, and they were very understanding and worked with us throughout the entire process. Our cake was red velvet with cream cheese icing on the first and third tiers and vanilla with butter cream icing on the middle teir.

I cant say enough wonderful things about cakes by the sea, if you contemplating getting your wedding cake from them then u def should. I cant tell you how many people commented on how tasty our wedding cake was. It was moist and delicious. We had a destination wedding in myrtle beach and the resort that we got married in gave us the top layer to have for our anniversary cake, but being that we were going to stay there for a week or longer and flying home we were not going to be able to keep it, we ate it the whole week we were there and it still stayed moist and delish.

Our wedding cake was beautiful and so very tastey. Cakes by the Sea helped us with the design of the cake and advised us on the layers of the cake. I highly recommend the carrot cake - it is amazing (and I don't traditionally like carrot cake)

My beach theme wedding cake was absolutley breathtaking. The owners were so friendly and helpful and delivered my cake at the right time. They are highly skilled cake designers and the taste was amazing!

Wonderful, Great, Awesome and Best in town. There are so many words to describe their service, but I don't have enough room to continue. Cakes by the Sea was awesome. Kris and Terry are wonderful. They provide the best customer service. Their cakes are wonderful. I provided them with a design of my cake and no problem we can do that. We also ordered a grooms cake, and it was also wonderful. Our guets were raving about the cake. A few people called us the next day to see if we had any cake left over. It was just that good. We will use Cakes by the Sea for all of functions.

Cakes by the Sea was the only place that we even traveled to when my fiance (now husband) went to Myrtle Beach from Pittsburgh to check our and book venders last year. When my husband ate one of the four cupcakes they gave us for taste testing and he actually ate it and said he liked it. We booked it soon after. He DOES NOTE LIKE SWEETS but when he ate the yellow butter cake with vanilla custard filling, we both were hooked. Terry & Kris were more than wonderful working with us from so far away. They were more than generous with keeping last years pricing when we booked and helping us figure out the best deal for an odd number of guests to save ourselves money. Everyone RAVED about how delicious the cake was! The cake was beautiful and we had numerous people tell us how beautiful it was! Somehow my cake toppers got thrown out and I was ready to buy new ones, they gave me a new set no questions asked. That put the biggest smile on my face and meant so much. Not only are they're cakes amazing so are they!

Cakes by the Sea made the groom's cake for our rehearsal dinner and did our wedding cake. The also did cupcakes for the children's buffet. Both cakes were original and beautiful. I told them what I wanted for the groom's cake and the cake was outstanding! Try their raspberry filling-everyone loved it!!

This vendor made our wedding cake which exceeded our expectations. We gave them our idea of what we were looking for and they did a great job. Not only was it beautiful but it also tasted great. When we first walked into Cakes by the Sea, we weren't even sure what we wanted. After looking at a few books and getting some ideas. Terri and Kris came over to assist us and that they did. After talking to them we knew exactly what we wanted and even chose our color scheme for the wedding based on the color of our cake. They gave us cupcakes as samples of all the flavors and they were all so good it was hard to make a choice. Our guests agreed the cake was heavenly and we'll be sure to recommend Cakes by the Sea to others as well as order some cupcakes while we're in town again they are a must have!

Yum! My wedding cake was exactly what I requested. I submitted photos of the cake I envisioned and got exactly what I ordered. They had no problem modifying a particular cake/icing combination to what I wanted! They have a rather small location but have professional quality service.

Cakes by the Sea did a wonderful job on our wedding cake. We designed it on paper and the actual product was identical. The staff was great and the cake was amazing. We really loved that you could choose as many different flavors and fillings as you wanted. Gluten free options were a great addition. Cakes by the Sea did an amazing job on our wedding cake and our cupcakes. My mom and I visited this shop first and didn't want to go to any other bakery in the area because the cake was so delicious. We went in for a tasting and to look at the cakes. They left us alone for our tasting and perusing, but when we went to the counter to order, were very responsive to our creative requests. The cake was perfect when we picked it up and guests couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was.

They are amazing and the cake was delicious. Kris and her staff were amazing as we had to make adjustments quite a few times when it came to our cake. Even when we made the last adjustment to be one tier but still have the same look the cake came out perfect, and was absolutely delicious. If anyone needs a cake definitely go to this place, Kris is phenomenal and so are the cakes. We will be back for birthday cakes soon.

My husband and I are both from Pittsburgh, but we decided on a small destination wedding in Myrtle Beach. I always wanted a beach wedding, and we fell in love with the Ocean Club venue to be honest when we saw it online! We booked the date and venue without even seeing it and made a trip down to MB to book our other wedding vendors! Cake was obvisouly on the list and we saw several recommendations for Cakes by the Sea online and in magazines, so we did a taste test and were sold! We loved that they were a family owned business and they were truely wonderful to work with during the cake tasting and finalization of the cake details. They were extremely responsive with emails and phone calls for all my questions throughout the planning process. They delivered the cake to the Ocean Club the day of the wedding and it looked exactly like we hoped! And I actually got to try both layers of my cake at the wedding!! And both the red velvet and white flavors (with buttecream i think) were awesome. We ordered a three tier cake for 60-70 people for our 40 person wedding - and all we had left was the top:) All the guests loved the cake and many had more than one piece as well.
I would definitely recommend cakes by the sea for any other couples that are looking for a great wedding cake. Again, also wonderful people to work with!

We had a small wedding on the beach, but still wanted some of the touches of a larger affair. We had a 4 tiered cupcake display with a mini cake on top which we cut together. We had a tasting a few days beforehand, and were able to try all of the flavor combinations that interested us. The cupcakes come with a filling, and any decoration you can think up is available. We went with three different cupcake flavors - marble with a fudge filling, chocolate with an almond filling and everyone's favorite, strawberry with a lemon filling. The cupcakes were moist, beautifully made, and gorgeously presented. Everything was delivered to our beach house right on time, which saved us from having to go out and pick anything up during such a busy day. The display was beautiful, and we were absolutely thrilled with the experience. We highly recommend Cakes By the Sea!

We arrived on a Tuesday for our wedding on the up and coming Saturday.
The price was a lot more expensive per slice than what we wanted to spend however the cake was so good! The cake was so moist and the icing wasn't to sickening sweet or whipped cream bland.
The cake was exactly what we wanted and she was so nice and making sure our vision was seen in the cake through her.

Absolutely delicious and beautiful

My husband and I were traveling from Maryland to get married in North Carolina and Cakes by the Sea were very accommodating as to when we could come and do a tasting. They were extremely nice and listened to everything that we asked for. We booked them almost a year out and even confirmed everything was good to go about a month out from our wedding. They delivered the cake onsite and everyone was in awe as to what it looked like and tasted like! We cannot wait for our year anniversary so that we can enjoy the top layer.

When I walked into their shop to just check out all the cakes they can make. They were very friendly. They were helping several customers, but told us to look through all the books of cakes they have made and feel free to ask any questions. As soon as they were done helping the other customers they were asking if we had any questions and if we would like to sample any of the cake flavors. We were able to taste want we wanted and actually picked out the cake and flavors right then and there! Very nice family owned business!!

Cakes by the Sea made our cake for our rehearsal dinner and for our wedding day. I sent them designs for both and we, overall, were very happy with the way they both turned out. We loved how our wedding cake looked and it was very, very similar to the design we sent. The rehearsal dinner cake was nice, but not quite what we had wanted. However, the cake tasted AMAZING! There was nothing left at either event so the guests obviously loved it too! We hate fondant and there was not a bit of that to be found on either cake which we loved about them. We would highly recommend them to anyone!

If I was rating Cakes by the Sea for Kris's hospitality or the cake itself, I would give Cakes by the Sea a full 5 Star review. Professionalism was lacking so for that reason I can not. Here is the story! I was a destination bride and communicated with the shop via phone/email. 7 months before my wedding I took a trip over 5 hours away to see my venue and taste cakes. I called beforehand and asked if I could stop by on Saturday to sample cakes since I was going to be in the area. I was told yes, just to call before so they could get the samples ready, so I did. When I called the lady on the phone then rudely asked me if I could come by another day as "they didn't have time for me". Needless to say, I just showed up and they provided samples. Kris was very polite and assisted me. She made me feel welcome and even gave me samples to take back so the groom could try them also. :) I went ahead and paid my deposit that day. I then confirmed everything we wanted about two months before. 3 days before the wedding I went into the bakery to pay the remaining balance.... they had missed placed my information! They had me start filling out a new form which I calmly asked them to just find my paperwork. This made me nervous. They must have been working on it because it was in the backroom. I leave feeling sure everything was resolved, only to receive an email the day before that they can not find the information on what it was supposed to look like!!!! I was one worried Bride! In the end they got the job done and all turned out to be well. There is just some room for improvement among the Bakery staff/ communication. One positive I can say is that they are more than willing to create whatever you can imagine. They really are a group of very talented ladies! Also, my cake was beautiful, yummy and just what I asked for. Just know, you will have to check in with them frequently to avoid getting lost in the mix as they are a busy bakery.

I have used this bakery for other events and as always the cakes are amazing. However the design looked nothing like the picture. It looked like a home-ec project. I was extremely dissapointed. I will say I am happy that it tasted so good.

I was disappointed in the cake I received from this company. First, they called me a couple of days before my wedding sounding very frazzled and told me that they had been extremely busy and that they would have difficulty creating the cake I had chosen without additional expense, which I feel should have been addressed much earlier than that. Also, they promised buttercream frosting but what I received tasted more like whipped cream. I have made buttercream frosting hundreds of times myself but this was definitely not what I expected. Also, the colors of my cake were not blended very well.

Will not help during a hurricane

My Wedding was canceled due to a hurricane. Had to cancel wedding cake order which was not started yet. Receipt did not say non-refundable or any time frame. Would not give back deposit but said could use in the future. Well the “future” was last month for my step daughter’s wedding and they didn't help me. The owner would never return a call after requesting over 5 times for a call from the owner. So I had to get cupcakes I planned to buy with the deposit from another bakery. They won't work with people during a mandatory evacuation, image what poor service they will provide if you have a minor issue. DO NOT USE “CAKE BY THE SEA” FOR ANY SPECIAL EVENTS!!

My big day was May 17 2014 and my most exciting part was my orchid cake that's was the theme of my wedding witch I was so excited about but come to find out after telling my family and friends about how cool these hand made orchids was I got to r reception and there was no orchids on my cake I called to get half of my refund back and she denied it so I was not happy for someone messing up my special day that only happens once in a life time... She blamed she had to much going on Saturday witch should not be my fought so I wouldn't recommend anyone that is doing a wedding cake with these guys I'm still upset and cry over my cake being messed up she even text me and wouldn't reply back to me hardly at all threw text I will never send none of my friends or family that plan on getting married at myrtle beach to this place I shouldn't have to pay for there mistakes

I had an awful experience with this bakery for my wedding cake. We had a destination wedding in Ocean Isle, and had made a trip to the area two months in advance to meet with vendors. They told us we didn't need an appointment for a tasting, just come in anytime. We asked if we could come Saturday afternoon, and they said sure. When we showed up, the staff was incredibly rude and said they didn't have time for us -- we should have made an appointment. After some back-and-forth, they gave us a couple cupcakes to taste. Because we were on a tight schedule that trip and it was them or order a cake from someone else long-distance, we went ahead and ordered a cake from them. We paid for everything up front: almost $400 for the cake, plus a $100 deposit for the cake stand. We paid for the cake with a credit card, but they wouldn't charge the deposit for the cake stand. It had to be either cash or check. I didn't have my checkbook with me, so we paid cash. On our wedding day, the cake was delivered on time; it looked nice and it tasted fine. They told us we could return the cake stand anytime, and get our deposit back. When we went to return it, they couldn't find our paperwork and tried to insist that the cake stand we brought in was used at a different wedding. After some searching, they finally found our paperwork but they said they didn't have record of us paying the deposit. They said it would have been recorded on our order receipt, which it wasn't. We left the bakery to look through our paperwork to find our copy of the receipt, which we found but it was no different from the order receipt they had at the store (carbon copy). We went back to the shop with the receipt. Then they insisted that if we had paid cash, we would have had a different receipt -- something other than the order receipt as they had first indicated. They went on to accuse us of trying to swindle them out of $100. If I had known this was going to be such an issue, I would have kept the cake stand!
