Busy Bee Catering - Rhododendron, Oregon Jan & Dani

Jan & Dani catered our son's wedding for 260 people on a 33 acre property where EVERYTHING had to be brought in....and it was flawless! They were amazing to work with and so calm and wise to keep this MOTG relaxed to enjoy the events. The quotes were more reasonable than others and food/flavor/freshness/presentation not compromised. I had wanted our son to go with the PDX caterer and Jan & Dani were definitely the best choice. You can't go wrong with them. We also used them at Alpine Events for our rehersal dinner with 52 people and the dinner was fabulous and the event space so lovely and personal for our gathering. Jan & Dani even decorated with the runners/candles/banner and flowers that we dropped off while at the rehersal. I can't say enough about them! Janey

You won't be dissappointed!!

We had our wedding at Alpine Events in Welches, OR on January 20, 2024, and it was everything we wanted, a truly magical day! We wanted an intimate venue to celebrate our day and this venue was perfect.
The whole experience was perfect, Jan was fantastic every step of the way. Even with a bad snow and ice storm that hit just days before our wedding. Jan and Todd stepped up and dealt with unforeseen issues and took extra steps to ensure a successful event. They are true professionals and took such good care of us.
The whole venue was decorated so beautifully, all our guests were so impressed with the décor to the delicious food. The ladies at Busy Bee Catering are true masters of what they do! All our food was so fresh and delicious!
Thank you, Jan, Todd, and team for all the work you put in, you’re doing an incredible job, and we had an unforgettable day!

Best Party Ever !

May 2023 we had an incredible 60th birthday party for my sister at Busy Bee’s alpine events center. From the planning to the decorations and flowers to the great bar and fabulous food it was a night to remember and I highly recommend Jan and Rachel at Busy Bee!
They are true professionals and understand customer service and attention to every detail !

Highly Recommend!

We used Busy Bee Catering for our Son & DIL’s post-wedding brunch and it was amazing! Not only was the food delicious, plentiful and beautiful but Jan was an absolute pleasure to work with. We decided on the menu - all of Jan’s menu suggestions were spot-on - and her team executed the event with precision & creativity. The on-site team was delightful and so accommodating. We had a few guests with food allergies/specifications and they happily complied with every detail. We live in Florida and it was very simple to coordinate our brunch long distance. One particular detail I am so appreciative is that our venue fell through at the last minute and again, being from out of state, we were at a loss and panicked! Jan responded immediately with a number of ideas and in fact, helped us to secure the beautiful Mt. Hood Museum as the perfect spot. I appreciate Jan & her team at Busy Bee Catering; I recommend them with no hesitation.

The best catering we've ever had!

Jan was so amazing! It was seriously the best catering we have ever had! Their menu is huge, and Jan was so receptive and communicative throughout the whole process. I've attended so many weddings where the food was very mediocre. Every item from Busy Bee was so delicious! My partner and I are so incredibly grateful for how she listened and worked with us to create a great menu and how many vegan and vegetarian options she had. All the guests were raving, especially the vegan and vegetarian ones! Also, Jan was incredibly timely. She arrived right at the expect time. She was a big part of why our event was such a big success! Highly recommend!

Caterers Extraordinaire!

We hired Busy Bee Catering for our daughter's downsized wedding last Saturday evening in a beautiful wild river setting . We were 100 percent BLOWN AWAY by not only the deliciousness of the Italian-themed dinner, but the absolutely stunning presentation. Our guests dined on artfully-arranged antipasto, salads, and chicken parmesan served on huge metal platters and in beautiful stoneware. It was all so stunning, we hated to disturb it! The portions were so generous that we had plenty left for dinner the following night. The caterers were on-time, extremely conscientious about cleanliness, and so easy to work with –– all at a reasonable cost. We received numerous compliments, and will be looking for opportunities to use them again!

Beautifully prepared with fresh local ingredients!

Jan and her team at Busy Bee were not only extremely professional caterers but served a meal for our sons wedding that was absolutely delicious and incorporated many of the fresh local ingredients that we love! The presentation of each dish was beautiful and full of flavor and color! I would highly recommend Jan for any type of event and will definitely use Busy Bee in the future!!

Upscale small wedding luncheon

We were doing a COVID-19, small group wedding with 22 people in attendance. We wanted a catered upscale lunch that was individually packed to maintain COVID-19 guidelines. We met with Janet and she brainstormed with us and came up with a wonderful menu, including dessert. Her individual touches to the menu were greatly appreciated. Our guests were very complimentary about the lunch. Would use her again in a heartbeat.

Busy Bee Catering

Jan catered meals for our family during a recent stay at Mt. Hood for a ski race camp. Her food is incredible. I still think about her caprese chicken and pasta, tortilla soup, and veggie lasagna - YUM. Everything was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. Jan is detail-oriented, easy to work with, and has great taste. We feel so lucky to have found her!

The best food and the best people!!!

One of my favorite parts of wedding planning was working with Jan and Todd- I want to host 20000 more events just so I can work with them over and over again. They are the kindest people and truly put love into everything they create. They had so many helpful ideas and whenever I felt clueless ( many times) they were right there to answer my questions and suggest what they thought would work best.

And now the food... holy cow. It's been months since our wedding and we literally still get comments about how amazing the food was. I wish I was eating the cheesy potatoes right now. Jan also created the most gorgeous grazing table for our cocktail hour, and people were getting their cell phones out to take photos because it was so darn beautiful. I could really go on and on, but the bottom line is that Busy Bee is a vendor you need to have at your wedding.

My family and I could not be happier with Busy Bee Catering for my wedding this weekend. Jan was super helpful at creating a great menu and was very thoughtful to take into consideration our guests with dietary restrictions. The food was absolutely excellent and we received many compliments. The staff was on time, friendly, and did a great job setting up even though the wedding location was unusual. They even packaged up the leftovers so we could take them home! We are really happy with choosing Busy Bee and you will not be disappointed!

Jan & Todd are the most welcoming husband wife team we've experienced! They welcomed us into their home for the tasting, which was the most delicious experience we've ever had. They are down to earth, kind and centered people who are real and genuine. We felt at home and cared for the moment we arrived and one bite and we were sold. Not only were the main dish's excellent but everything down to the salad dressing to salsa really impressed us with the flavors. They continued to be responsive and helpful throughout our engagement and delivered exactly as promised on our wedding day. Jan always showered us with support and kind words as we went along, making the process super easy, seamless, and made us feel taken care of and not stressed by the service they provided us. We love the Ostrom's so much we wish we could be friends with them!

Busy Bee Catering was hands down the best decision we made for our wedding. Even six weeks later, we still have people talking about the food that was served! It was one of the best meals I've ever had, and I can't believe they created it for 120 guests. Jan was super communicative and helpful through every step of the way, and I just cannot say enough about her food. It was the best part of our day!

Thank you so much for catering our Anniversary Party. The food was beyond excellent. You were very generous with your portions. We could have served well over 100 with the amount you gave us. Your delivery ladies were so pleasant. They explained how to serve each dish and how to use dressings and toppings.

Amazing food and amazing people! The staff went above and beyond with everything and the food was delicious. Had MANY people tell us that it was the best wedding food they ever had (and I would agree). Everything tasted just like it did during the taste testing, home cooked and fresh! Busy Bee Catering met all of our needs plus some! The food was phenomenal, we had buffet style for 230 people and they still made it all so tasty. The layout of the food was so elegant, and appealing. Their crew was so helpful and professional as well. We would recommend them for any catering event without a doubt.

We hired Busy Bee to cater our wedding, and it was beyond anything we could have expected. The food was phemomenal, the presentation was absolutely beautiful and they are very professional to work with! Jan even went out of her way to find a recipe for a Buffalo-style entree for us. It ended up being Buffalo Mac and cheese and everyone LOVED it!!

Jan also went above and beyond and gave us wonderful recommendations and ideas for decorations, food entrees, etc and really made the whole process seamless and stress-free!

I would strongly recommend Busy Bee Catering for any of your catering needs!

I can’t thank Jan Ostrom and her team enough for the food, service, help and the all around incredible experience everyone had with them during our wedding. The food was not only delicious, but also incredibly beautiful. Many guests commented on how spectacular the presentation was as well as how good everything tasted. The Busy Bee catering staff was so kind and helpful and everyone enjoyed working with them. They were incredibly efficient and on top of everything making it a really enjoyable experience for all involved. There wasn’t anything that we didn’t love about the food, though if I had to pick a favorite dish, it was the Busy Bee Signature Salad! Throughout the entire process Jan went above and beyond to help us make everything perfect. She even had suggestions for decor! Many, many thanks to the Busy Bee team!

I used busy bee for my Fourth of July wedding. My theme was old fashion picnic and I wanted my food to match. Busy bee was the first place I contacted. Jan was very enthusiastic about my idea and had some great ideas on how to incorporate our picnic theme. I had talked to a few other places just to make sure but I just felt Jan really understood what I was looking for. The first time me and my fiancé met with her we realized we had no idea what we wanted. We could see what Jan was extremely experienced and knew what she would doing which made us feel sooo much better. She took our suggestions, made a few of her own and worked within our budget. She kept it touch all the way up to the wedding and always offered up her wedding knowledge when I asked for help. When our wedding finally came her and her team ROCKED it! I mean seriously knocked it out of the park! Our wedding day was Hot hot hot but that didn't stop her team from working hard and making everything look great! We had pulled pork sandwiches, and chicken skewers along with some amazing side salads and spicy coslaw! We actually got to eat unlike most newlyweds and it was so good! I cannot tell you how many people told us how much they LOVED the food! These guys really went the extra mile for me and I greatly appreciate Jan and her team!

Busy Bee Catering did an amazing job for my Summer Solstice Wedding! Not only were they extremely responsive, but very helpful in offering their opinions due to their experiences of catering weddings. Everything we added on last minute was taken care of and I am so very thankful for their wonderful company. The guests commented on how good to the food was!! There was also a lot leftover which was great as we had wanted enough to ensure that people could go back again and again as it was a buffet. I would recommend Busy Bee Catering to anyone in need of caterers but definitely for a wedding as despite the day seemingly very stressful overall this was something that was taken care of so smoothly it was a huge relief! VERY delicious too!! Thank you so much.

I was quite pleased with Busy Bee Catering! We hired them for a school 40th anniversary and auction dinner event at the last minute. Jan was a delight to work with. The food was delicious with a beautiful presentation. We did a buffet this year and it worked out great. Jan and her staff were prompt and efficient. We will definitely be calling on them again for future events!

Jan has been supplying the sack lunches for our Mt Hood Ski Racing League for at least 7 years. Our race course volunteers work hard to keep the High School race functions on schedule no matter the weather and Jan's lunches keep our crews working hard.
Sandwiches made with Jan's homemade thick sliced bread, your groups choice of meats (we choose turkey) with cheese and lettuce. Fresh fruit. And her home made desserts such as bar cookies. And if you're looking for a very special dessert Jan can put together the best Oatmeal Cookies on Mt. Hood.

Busy Bee Catering provides a great service for conference group meetings as well. With less than two weeks notice, Jan was very responsive and accommodating for my request to provide appetizers for a group of 50 travel professionals. They were willing to set up, serve, and clean up for this fast pace group when our schedule did not allow us time to linger and enjoy. Their display was simple as I requested, yet very professional and appropriate for the event. The appetizer skewers were beautifully presented and most important, tasty! Busy Bee Catering can be trusted and reliable for any size group, and will work with you to fit your needs and budget. Thanks

Jan and her crew at Busy Bee made our Business Excellence Awards Luncheon easy and elegent, even with our very tight budget. I have organized many events and have high standards for service and flexibility. Jan obviously holds those same high standards. Jan was very responsive and creative when it came to menu planning. The food was a great value and the presentation was elegant. The Christmas cookie table was fabulous! Can't wait to work with Jan and her team in the future. Jan and the Busy Bee Catering staff provided her services at a reception for a ribbon cutting event for our new Rivermark Community Credit Union Gresham branch. Jan was personable, easy to work with and affordable. She came up with a very thoughtful menu for our guests and even put us in touch with a baker and an event coordinator to assist us with other event details. The spread was delicious and we received many compliments from guests! I would hire Busy Bee Catering again in a heartbeat for future Rivermark events!

Busy Bee Catering has catered several events for me over the past 15 years while I have worked at different non profits: community meetings, town halls, and for the past two years our annual volunteer recognition banquet. The food is mouth-watering and you can taste the freshness of the food, decorations always match the theme, and the caterers are responsive to special needs. After catering the volunteer banquet in 2013, our staff and guests asked me to please bring back the same caterer for 2014 with the same menu. Who can say no to happy guests?

Janet and crew helped us through my Daughters Wedding with patience and a lot of added value both offering suggestions and challenging (in a nice way) ideas.

MY Daughter had things under control, not. So with little time tilll the ceremony Janet and I had several phone and email meetings and pulled off a fantastic reception for 200 people.

The number one attribute is Busy Bee's ability to be flexible to budgets and still deliver an excellent product. In our case we mixed and matched who provided what, for example we provided soft drinks and champagne and saved a bunch. On the other hand I did not want family or the wedding party helping with the meal. Janet provided resources that we both agreed on. The cost came in without any extra charges.

People are still commenting on how great the food was at the wedding, and on the beautiful buffet presentation. Jan was always very quick to respond to emails and clear and upfront in her communication. The staff they brought along were very professional and responsive to our requests. The highlights for us in terms of food were the salmon with spicy shrimp topping, the stuffed mushroom appetizers, and the signature salad. When my husband and I walked into the building after having just walked down the aisle, Jan handed us a small plate of food, wanting to make sure that we took a moment to eat in a quiet moment before we went back out to spend time with our guests. It was a very thoughtful touch.
We first met with Jan and Todd at their house to go over the basic plan about what we wanted. They are very flexible and accommodating if you have an exact plan in mind. We didn't really have a plan but wanted a meal that focused on local ingredients, so Jan was able to give us a ton of suggestions to choose from. We were really pleased with their pricing as well. It was much more straightforward than any of the other companies that we had spoken with. I would definitely recommend Busy Bee Catering to anyone. They were lovely to work with.

Busy Bee Catering catered my daughter's wedding last weekend and I couldn't have asked for more from a catering service. I have had food from Busy Bee Catering in the past, so I knew I would not be disappointed in the food. Jan was very helpful in putting together a great menu for appetizers and dinner, and as expected, the food was delicious. Their orzo salad with roasted vegetables was my favorite, and their broccoli salad was a hit with everyone. Instead of the traditional wedding cake, Jan prepared an amazing peach shortcake. I would highly recommend Busy Bee Catering for any occasion.

Busy Bee Catering made our wedding absolutely magical. Jan and her husband Todd were helpful, encouraging, and wonderful from Day One. We used Busy Bee to cater our rehearsal dinner, wedding reception dinner, and breakfast the morning after. All meals were delicious (we got rave reviews from our guests) and even better than we envisioned. Throughout the weekend, Jan and her crew were timely, pleasant, and flexible. Jan and Todd were also incredibly helpful during our planning process; they cooked us a sample meal, were resourceful, patient, and creative in helping to solve our logistical conundrums, and always treated our celebration with respect and a cost-conscious eye. Jan also gave us great options for locally-sourced, organic food! Lastly, Jan and Todd know the Mt. Hood area very well and have great connections throughout the region. Because we had our celebration on Mt. Hood, we received enormous benefit from their connections, knowledge, and experience in the area. We were very lucky to find Busy Bee and not have to use a Portland-based caterer out of touch with our actual wedding locale. I live in Chicago and was traveling to Portland OR to throw a 60 th birthday surprise party for my sister. I was not sure how I was going to pull the party off. I was given three caterers names by one of my sisters friends and called Jan the owner of Busy Bee first. After talking with her I never even called any of the other caters on the list. She was so easy to work with and the party was a great success! The food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful! I would highly recommend her for any event that you are planning!

Our daughter recently got married and chose Jan & Todd Ostrom of Busy Bee Catering to provide appetizers and an evening meal for after the ceremony. What a great choice! Luckily, they were a preferred caterer at the event site as well, and we got an extra hour at no additional charge, because the folks there are so happy with how well the caterer cleans up after themselves and never a worry about having them on site.

The food was delicious! The meat, cooked on site, was so tender and flavorful; the salads were wonderful, hearty, and delicious; the fruit so perfectly ripe! My daughter really liked the heart shaped short cakes that were made for the strawberries, ice cream, and whipping cream (instead of wedding cake)! Since there were left overs, they so kindly bagged everything up for us, and we continued serving yummy left overs to family & guests the next day at our home.

We received numerous compliments on the food that night, and would recommend Busy Bee Catering for any event.

We used Busy Bee Catering for the rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding. The wedding took place at a resort in Welches, OR, a very small town an hour outside of Portland. I was delighted to find a caterer there, in fact across the street from the resort! Given the location, I really had no other choice. Fortunately, the photos and reviews on the website were outstanding, and I got a very good feeling when I met Jan Ostrom, one of the owners. So we moved forward with them. We could not have been more pleased. We served 70 people at the dinner, and everyone raved about the food! The whole experience; working with Jan beforehand, the set up for the event, the help during the event, and the deliciousness of the food made the evening carefree and successful for my and husband and myself......and the bride and groom! I officiated my best friends wedding at Cedar Springs Country Estate, This venue for catering is literally like a campground! Busy Bee blew me away with the preperation and display of food. Everything was hot, tasty and looked beautiful! I have attended other weddings there who didnt have BB catering their big day and let me tell you, everyone will remember how beautiful the bride is and how good or BAD your food was... with Busy Bee catering your guests will remember that they didnt go home hungry and how delicious it was! I still talk about it till this day how wonderful a job they did with what they had. If anyone can turn campground catering into a Gourmet kitchen its them! Busy Bee last catered our Christmas Caroling party a week ago, the food was fantastic! They also catered our wedding 3 years ago, we had a park setting and couldn't have been more impressed with the food and service we received. The food was presented in a beautiful manner, my friends have been trying to replicate the presentation when they have parties. The service was excellent, I almost felt as though we had a wedding planner with the suggestions and help we received from flowers to a wedding cake. We could not have been more pleased with the catering of our wedding. The food and decor displayed by Busy Bee Catering was second to none. Busy Bee Catering did an excellent job at my wedding. The food was beautifully displayed and there was a ton of it! My guests were so amazed at the quality and taste of the food, people have not stopped talking about how impressed they were! One of the things I found best about this company was the ease of planning and preparing. Our experience with Jan and co. was great. Through the months of communication (via e-mail and phone) Jan was not only flexible but had great suggestions to make our daughter's reception wonderful. We requested a custom menu due to dietary restrictions so Jan prepared delicious vegan dishes.

There were a couple of minor items that prevent me from giving a perfect score, but these were quickly corrected by the staff.

I was very happy with the service and food and would not hesitate to recommend Busy Bee Catering to anyone planning an event.

Great Brunch!

I recently received services from Busy Bee and despite an initial hiccup, which Jan was quick to correct, we had a FABULOUS brunch. Her cinnamon rolls were some of the best me and my 80+ year old grandmother have ever had!

Jan and Todd did a great job with the catering for our wedding. They are very personable. Jan was helpful in giving me suggestions for ALL aspects of my wedding. The first time I met with her I was lost. She gave me vendor suggestions & more and followed up with me later to see how I was doing. Food was good - although truth be told we didn't get to eat much of it. Super flexible. They were able to pull together a bartending team for us at the last minute too.

My daughter wanted an onsite BBQ for her wedding and Busy Bee provided the experience she wanted and the food they grilled was amazing and their salads were wonderful. They provided more then enough food to feed our group and I feel like the value was more then I expected.

Poor communication, 2.5 hours late for delivering food, and unprofessional

We had a TERRIBLE experience with this caterer and 100% would NOT recommend them if you want to have a seamless catering experience! We choose Busy Bee for our outdoor wedding because of the good reviews and limited options in the area. They were booked on our originally requested day so we chose to move our wedding to the following day, which was a Sunday. On the day of the wedding the food was supposed to arrive at 2:20pm after a 12pm ceremony. At 2:20 there was no sign of food anywhere. We called to see what the issue was and it turns out the caterer wrote down the wrong date for the wedding and were planning to deliver food Monday afternoon. We ended up having to order pizza to hold people over while they worked to get the food to us. It showed up 2.5 hours late with only 1 hour left on our venue. Many people had to leave before the food arrived and others filled up on pizza. We had an enormous amount of left over food, and the food itself was tasteless. I can't speak to the quality of the food when not on a time crunch but it definitely was not was not at all worth the price we ended up paying. On top of all this, the caterer was very unprofessional. She literally stated "As far as I am concerned we are 18 hours early" and "You need to take responsibility for your part in this". She blamed the date confusion on an incorrect date in the subject line of the email thread, however that was forwarded from when we were searching for availability and she had confirmed the correct date and time. She also made excuses saying they had many events and were overbooked as if it was our fault that she was busy. She did end up giving us 20% discount but the food wasn't good and there were so many leftovers after people left and/or filled up on pizza that we had to just give it all away. This was a huge disappointment and unnecessary stress on our wedding day. DO NOT BOOK with BusyBee. If you do decide to book anyways, be warned that they are terrible at communicating in a timely and comprehensive manner. You will need to micromanage to ensure they are doing their job correctly.

The worst catering I have ever experienced! They were 2 1/2 hours late for the wedding, the berries they brought were moldy, they failed to provide enough salad, and they did a horrible job setting up the food (little decoration and display). They were hard to communicate with and never gave us a definitive invoice. Do not risk ruining your big day with this company!!!
