Smooth & Stress Free
Ellyse was beyond a pleasure to work with! My whole experience working with her was stress free and I was impressed by her work. Ellyse did hair/make up for my mom and I, as well as she and her associate did my bridesmaids makeup.
Trial: I sent Ellyse photo inspiration prior and we talked about the look I was going for. She was confident with her plan for me. After the trial, we talked about changes and adjustments - she was very receptive to the changes I wanted to make and made good professional suggestions based on my hair/skin type. I kept the hair in and make up on until I went to bed (8/9hrs total) and NOTHING moved - all stayed in place! I was impressed by the trial because I have very thick/long hair with many baby hairs and oily/acne prone skin.
Day of Wedding: Ellyse and her associate showed up on time and ready! If anything, my bridal party and I were running late and despite that, Ellyse had all of us (bride, mother of bride, 6 bridesmaids) ready on time! Her and her team were also such great company - easy going with easy conversation. For my hair we didn’t have an outlet close enough for the heating tools so we ended up in a not so ideal spot with low lighting, but it still turned out beautiful with all the adjustments we talked about (a true testaments to Ellyse’s flexibility)! My makeup stayed on all day (12+ hrs)! For reference, my oily skin tends to make my eyeliner/mascara transfer to my bottom lid. I had zero eyeliner transfer and everything stayed in place. By the end of the night I was a little shiny but no foundation separation, no blush/contour fading or eye make up transfer! Also, my Bridesmaids’ and my mother’s makeup up still looked amazing by the end of the night.
When we got our photos, Ellyse’s makeup photographed so beautifully! I am so grateful for her talent and her professional insight! She also did my hair color prior to add dimension - fyi she is also a very talented colorist and has done color for me in the past that I loved! I definitely recommend Ellyse if you value quality work and reliable communication. Thanks Ellyse!

Ellyse is such a gem. I was planning my wedding from overseas (I live in London, wedding was in the Bay Area) and Ellyse was super responsive and helpful during our correspondence. She listened to what I hoped for with my hair (casual, easy, classic half up-half down) but also made sure to get the colours right when she toned it. She also did all the hair in our wedding party - my bridesmaids, maid and matron of honour, groomsmaid, and MOB.
On the day, there was no stress as she created the looks that each person wanted. We had such a fun time getting ready, and Ellyse is a big part of that chill environment. She made the process seem effortless and easy and joked around with all of us, which helped keep things chill as well.
I'm so happy with our wedding photos, as all the women have great hair thanks to Ellyse! Do yourself a favour and book her ASAP. -

Ellyse did my wedding hair and makeup a few weeks ago and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! When I first reached out to ask about her services, she responded quickly, provided me with a pricing guide, and answered all of my questions. I had researched a number of hair and makeup vendors in the SF area, but of all the ones I found, I thought her work and prices to be the most ideal (beautiful work, fair pricing). I really loved the updos and soft glam makeup posts I found on her instagram page (@ellyselim_) and I could tell from some of her videos that she would be fun to work with.
When I asked her to do hair and makeup for my wedding, she sent over a contract and asked how many services I would be needing so she could put together a potential timeline for me. And when I met her at my hair and makeup trial, I knew I had made the right choice. Ellyse was warm, sweet, down to earth, and easy to talk to (the kind of person you want with you on the morning of an overwhelming day!) and we clicked right away. On the day of my wedding, she arrived on time and had another artist with her to assist with makeup services (her friend Joice, who was also fabulous!). In addition to my hair and makeup, Ellyse did hair for all my bridesmaids, my mom, and my mother in law. All of my bridesmaids were pleased with her work and agreed that I had made a good choice asking her to be my H&M girl. I have to give her props as well for pivoting easily when I decided to change my hairstyle for the day and sprung it on her that morning. She was happy to oblige and did such an amazing job on my gorgeous updo! I highly recommend her to anyone! She had my full trust from the moment I met her at my hair trial, and she did not let me down. Thanks for making me feel pretty on my wedding day, Ellyse! -

If you want flawless wedding makeup and hair, definitely book with Ellyse! She was professional, listened to what I wanted, paid attention to detail (which I love!), and made me feel comfortable the whole time! My makeup and hair survived a whole night of dancing and lots of crying.. and it still looked perfect at the end! I would definitely hire her again!! You won’t be disappointed! Also, all the photos attached haven’t been retouched or anything— that’s how good her work is! -

Best wedding hairstylist
Ellyse came highly recommended from a few of my friends! I contacted her and she responded right away! She is VERY talented! We tried a few hairstyles including a low pony tail and Hollywood waves which is her specialty, and she definitely delivered!! We went with the Hollywood waves and the curls stayed on all day long! Now Ellyse is my all-time hairstylist and colorist and I wouldn’t go back to anyone else! Go to her, you will not be disappointed!! Btw, she is so sweet and easy to vibe with ☺️ -

Best Hair & Make Up for my Wedding Day!
After booking my venue, Ellyse was the first vendor I knew I wanted secure for my Wedding Day so I booked 13 months in advance! I also knew I would not have felt as confident as I did on my Best Day Ever without Ellyse.
Reasons I booked:
1. I’m a big cryer, and I knew I needed my make up to last through all my crying :)
2. Ellyse is committed to her craft and does not settle for average. We started services VERY early with 7 bridesmaids, mother of the bride and mother of the groom and everyone looked stunning.
3. And is the best support system and brings such great energy always!
If you’re looking for a vendor who will show up, go above and beyond, and will likely end up being your friend/therapist at trial and on your wedding day, look no further. Book here! -

Sophisticated Bridal Hair & Makeup that lasted all day!
First off, Ellyse was such a dream to work with. She was able to give me the classic and sophisticated bridal hair and makeup look that I really wanted. We did a trial where she asked me what concerns I had about the day of look and tailored my makeup to my preferences. She was able to target my concerns of having both my makeup and hair last all day as well as covering my acne. What I loved most about my look was that she enhanced my features so it looked natural, but of course in a polished manner. My hollywood waves stayed perfectly the entire day, even through the heat during the ceremony & through all the dancing during the evening. I highly recommend her for all of your hair and makeup needs!! She’s perfect! -

I had the pleasure of working with Ellyse for my civil wedding, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with how everything turned out! Due to the last-minute nature of our wedding planning, I wasn’t able to do a trial run, but Ellyse made sure to understand exactly what I wanted. She absolutely nailed my bridal look—perfectly enhancing my features and making me feel beautiful and confident.

I seriously cannot recommend Ellyse enough! From the moment we met, she was so easy to work with. She took the time to listen to what I wanted and offered expert advice to ensure my hair and makeup would complement both my vision and my features.
The morning of my wedding, Ellyse arrived on time (at 5:00AM), fully prepared, and instantly put me at ease with her calm and down to earth demeanor. The results were beyond stunning – my makeup was flawless, enhancing my features without feeling too overdone, and my hair was exactly what I had dreamed of – and elegant, yet effortless, loose updo.
What I appreciated most was how long-lasting everything was. To give some background, the ceremony started at 12PM, so my makeup and hair were done by 10:30AM. Cocktail hour began at 5PM and the reception lasted until 11PM. My makeup stayed perfect throughout the entire day, tears, and dancing. My hair remained intact from the morning until well into the evening. Mind you, I had no touchups during the day. I received so many compliments from guests, and felt the most beautiful on my wedding day.
Ellyse was a joy to work with. She made the getting-ready experience light and stress-free, creating a relaxing atmosphere while still working efficiently. It set the tone for the whole day. To add, Ellyse was 8 MONTHS PREGNANT (talk about professionalism!) and still made it all happen.
If you’re looking for someone who will elevate your bridal look while making you feel completely comfortable and confident, look no further. Though my wedding was in 2022, I still go to her for all my hair needs to this day. -

Hair of My Dreams!!
I had the absolute pleasure of having Ellyse style my hair for my wedding, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! She created the most beautiful vintage curls that perfectly matched the look I had envisioned. Her attention to detail was incredible, and she took the time to ensure every curl was flawless. Despite the weather not being in our favor, my hair still looked amazing all day! It held up wonderfully through the gusty winds, heat, and hours of dancing/celebrating. There isn’t enough good things to say about Ellyse’s talent & presence!
On the day of my wedding I was super excited but also very nervous! Ellyse’s fun yet super calming energy allowed me to feel my best! We did a few trials prior to my big day and she listened to all my hair inspirations. Nevertheless, i went with the classic Hollywood waves and it was perfect!
My makeup was done exactly how I wanted it, natural glam!! She made my skin appear flawless and was attentive to every detail!
I would 1000% recommend her for any bride looking for the perfect makeup and hair artist! 5 STARS ALL AROUND! -

Exactly what I wanted!
I hired Ellyse less than a month before my wedding, so I didn't have time for a hair trial. But, it didn't matter, she executed exactly what I wanted and what I envisioned after explaining it to her. She also did hair and makeup for some of my bridesmaids. Every thing was done on time and how I wanted.
I also hired Ellyse more recently for my mom's big 70th birthday bash. She did my mom (70), me and my daughter (10). Very age appropriate for all of us what we asked for. -

After two absolutely terrible hair trials at a different salon, I found Ellyse through Instagram and was very impressed with her work. We did two different wedding-hair trials, and she absolutely crushed it! I had an idea of what I wanted, then changed when I decided I wanted to get extensions, which she helped me pick out. I had never worn extensions before, but her knowledge of them and my hair texture was so great, it really instilled a sense of trust in her for my wedding day.
Her studio is clean and relaxing. Her vibe is so chill yet professional, which was nice because she took the time to get to know me and my now husband, but also opened up the conversation to other topics, which made me feel comfortable and like I was hanging with a good friend! All my bridesmaids loved their hair for the wedding day, too. I would definitely recommend Ellyse! -

Braids & Bunz is a stellar bridal hair and makeup expert. I was recommended to her by my best friend (and all I can say is that I am very grateful for it)! From my bridal hair and makeup trial to the day of (bride + 9 bridesmaids + mother + mother in law) , she and her 2 assistants did a phenomenal job. Soft glam and a team that listens to your hair and makeup inspiration/vision board/palette best describes Braids and Bunz. The communication, personal touch, and quality of service are exceptional. I had a large bridal party (12 total for hair and makeup), and everyone loved their hair and makeup that lasted from an 11:30am wedding ceremony to the reception until midnight. Worth every penny !
You truly get what you pay for with Ellyse. She styled my hair three times: first for my engagement photo shoot (as a trial) and twice on my wedding day. For my Chinese tea ceremony, she crafted an elegant, classic, and simple look. Later, she transformed my style with gorgeous, romantic waves that perfectly complemented the wedding's romantic atmosphere. Ellyse's work was absolutely magical! -

Amazing HMUA!!
Ellyse is an amazing artist who did my hair and makeup for my wedding day. I had a trial with her about a month before the wedding, and she was so kind and accommodating. I had her go off a look that I really liked but wasn't my usual style to see if it would suit me. While it looked great, I ultimately decided that I wanted to go for something that made me feel more like my everyday self. On the day of my wedding, I gave her the feedback and she was able to make all the tweaks making me feel even more confident than I had felt after the trial. She knew exactly what to do without having to over-explain myself, and that felt awesome to trust her completely. 10/10 would reccommend! -

My partner has two friends, whose wives had their hair/makeup done by this specific artist and recommended her to me. And, I remembered that they looked great on their special day, so I reached out to her via email, which is her only form of communication. I got a hold of this artist in Mid-July and started discussing about a bridal trial to see if she was a good fit for what I am looking for, and she asked about my availability. I asked if I could send the deposit for the trial, to which she said that's fine! Also, because she was recommended to me by two people I know, I wasn't too fazed about sending a non-refundable deposit before having a date finalized for the trial.
But once I sent the deposit, that is when the communication became really poor. I had to send follow up emails twice in a span of two days just to confirm if she had received the deposit. When she did respond, she said that she didn't know her schedule yet to find a date for a bridal trial, and she would let me know. This was really bewildering to me because for someone who works for herself, I would think she would know her own schedule. I just gave the benefit of the doubt, since I trusted the wives who recommended her.
For two weeks, I had to send multiple follow up emails trying to find a date that worked for both us. I made sure to give a grace period of no response from Fri-Sun since I know it is wedding season, but it was just strange to constantly send follow up emails even during the weekdays. When she finally came back to me, she said her only available date that worked for both of us was the end of September. I was a bit surprised, she couldn't find a date that worked in August when I had sent her the deposit in mid July. Also, I was a bit uncomfortable with the idea of waiting until the end of September since having a bridal trial does not hold the wedding date. In two months time, someone else could have booked her for my wedding date.
I was a bit turned off by her lack of communication and her unavailability that I emailed her saying I didn't think we were a good fit, and if she could return her deposit. And while I knew the deposit was non refundable, I have had another makeup artist who returned their non-refundable deposits for other miscommunications. For someone who started to be poor at responding to emails, she responded very quickly to the email about a refund, saying her policy is no refunds and if I wanted that I could use her for a future service. I don't plan on getting married twice, so, I'm not sure what service I would use for the future. Furthermore, the poor communication on her end shows me there is no service I would like to have with her in the future.
If I could give zero stars, I would. While she may have had glowing recommendations in the past, my current experience does not reflect that.
