Groom's Cake - Bonnie Ruth's (Allen, TX location)
My husband LOVES the red velvet cake from Bonnie Ruth's so we called them up and they made us a red velvet sheet cake to serve at the wedding. I was nervous it would look plain, but it was very pretty, simple with red dusting on it. It was a hit both for our guests and us. So glad we did this rather than a traditional groom's cake. My hubby was extremely happy.

This is a great venue. Beautiful patio and dining room. The best value for a wedding for great food, drinks and AMAZING cakes. They do not charge a separate fee for the ceremony or anything. They charge per person for food, on consumption for alcohol and if you want to use their beautiful, yummy cakes, you just pay for those. They even include table cloths, napkins, candles and items like this. I cannot say enough about how great of a venue this is and how amazing Mary Maiden is to work with for your wedding!

    They RUINED the wedding.

Do NOT have your wedding here - they RUINED the wedding.

The bride wanted the wedding on the patio but was assured that in the event of rain, it could be moved inside into the restaurant. Guests noticed that major thunderstorms were moving in (the skies were turning black) and the wedding coordinator, Mary, decided it wasn't supposed to rain. The ceremony remained outside and everyone and everything got completely and utterly soaked.

After the ceremony, guests went in the restaurant as Mary struggled to find tables. Guests were finally seated after about 45 minutes (some went home). We were not all seated near each other and were mostly at small tables of 4.

In the meantime, guests AND THE BRIDE went back and forth in the pouring rain to bring in HER decorations, HER sound equipment, gifts, twinkle lights, etc. Mary was busy trying to get tables for us.

Mary claims that she spoke with the bride repeatedly about the weather including the day prior and earlier that day and that they decided it wasn't going to rain. She claims that they only booked the outdoor patio so were not entitled to a back-up plan. This is completely untrue, and Mary lied about speaking to the bride that day. She also previously showed the bride pictures on her phone of a wedding that had been moved inside due to rain.

Other atrocities include, but are not limited to:

Mary was drinking tequila shots during the wedding, and several guests overheard her tell the bartender to put it on the bride and groom's tab so it wouldn't come out of the restaurant's profits!!!

The steaks were cold and rare or completely raw in the middle. Later on Mary claimed (outright lied) that she took the steaks back, recooked them, and reserved them, and therefore she wouldn't take them off the bill.

While Mary was trying to seat people, I asked that she do something to help and make the guests and the crying bride feel better, such as give everyone free champagne. She did, but then there later was no champagne toast, and the bride actually had to beg someone to get her a glass of champagne while her maid of honor was toasting her.

Mary got up to join the single ladies and tried to catch the bouquet. When I later told her this was unprofessional, she told me the bride specifically called her up by name and that they're friends. The bride never called her up, and they are definitely not friends.

When the groom asked about tipping the staff, Mary told him that she already included a tip in the bill. She didn't tell him (and he didn't notice 'till later) that it was for THIRTY PER CENT. The groom gave her an additional $100 in cash and she still didn't mention it.

The bride wanted to cut the cake and ended up doing so with a butter knife. Someone on the staff later gave her a giant chef's knife. Eventually Mary came out with a cake knife. It was ridiculous.

The bride packed up her own leftover cake and cupcakes in her dress. Mary didn't offer any help.

The bride and groom were served their food last.

No crazy dancing. Hardly any pictures.

The rain didn't ruin the wedding. Mary could have saved the wedding. Instead, she was worse than useless, drank on the job, charged it to the bride and groom's tab, lied, and did zero to help the bride, and charged a 30% gratuity and took $100 extra. She should be completely ashamed of herself, as should the venue.
