From Steel Drums to DJ—Bob Made Our Wedding Amazing
We hired Bob Lyons as our steel drum player and wedding DJ for our May 2025 wedding in Key Largo, and he was absolutely fantastic! His steel drum performance before the ceremony and during our cocktail hour instantly set the perfect island vibe for our guests—it felt like the Keys came alive through his music.
When dinner began, Bob seamlessly transitioned into DJ mode, providing the perfect background music to set the tone. He then MC’d our special introductions and first dances with professionalism and great energy. Once the dance floor opened, it stayed packed all night thanks to his DJ skills, fun atmosphere, and mood lighting that really brought the party to life.

Wedding Event - Welcome Cocktail Party
Bob Lyons played at our Welcome Cocktail Party which was an event preceding my son's wedding. Bob was easy to work with during our conversations leading up to the wedding. On the day of the event, Bob arrived early as he said he would and was completely set up and started providing music 15 minutes before guests we even scheduled to arrive. He provided a array of songs, all performed in the "island vibe" mixing steel drums, background music and ukulele. Many of our guests commented on how great the music was. Bob also responded to guests who spoke to him - in a way that was friendly, upbeat and very congenial. If I have the opportunity to host another event, Bob is at the top of my list to hire. Thank you Bob for an outstanding evening of music!!

I knew I wanted a Steel Drummer for our beach wedding, and I came across Bobs information and found all of his vides on YouTube and fell in love! Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to walk down the aisle to Somewhere Over the Rainbow and when I saw his video of that song I fell in love and knew I needed to hire him! He responded right away and sent him his song list (which had so many options). His talent is absolutely amazing and brought the Keys vibe to Jensen. I had a few requests and he accommodated everything and more! He came all the way from Deerfield to bring my vision to life. Hire Bob you will not be disappointed!!

Fabulous Experience
Bob played steel drums and ukulele for our son’s rehearsal dinner (50 people) and a large Welcome Event (about 180 guests) that followed it at Cheeca Lodge Resort in Islamorada. A number of locals recommended him, telling me he was professional and so easy to work with. They were exactly right! Bob’s music gave our lovely venue the perfect touch and a feel of the islands without being too much. He made every bit of our work together easy and fun with quick emails back and forth to plan and easy links to pay deposit and final payment. With a destination wedding, I was planning from afar without a lot of knowledge of the venue. Bob had great ideas about where to set up, suggested he could also play quiet background music during dinner on his ukulele, provided his wireless mic for us to use for toasts and speeches after dinner, and was unobtrusive and flexible all evening. He handled all his own set-up/tear down across two spaces seamlessly and assured me he would be there early to do sound checks and such and needed no one to meet him for that. Much appreciated on a very busy day already! We had a pop-up rain shower during the dinner prayer (we were outside!) and had to pull everyone into the bar for ten minutes and then wait while servers wiped off tables/chairs so we could re-start dinner. Bob calmly wiped off all his equipment and played on, never missed a beat, smiled the whole time, did not ask me one question or need any direction about what to do. That altered our schedule for the evening a bit. He rolled with it and moved seamlessly to the other terrace to begin music for our arriving Welcome event party right on time, leaving a mic for us to finish toasts. He is a talented musician and a terrific professional. You won’t regret a decision to include him in your celebration! I just described an unexpected rain shower during an outdoor event for 50 people, and we still had a GREAT evening. Bob helped make that possible. Every bit of the night was perfect, and guests loved him too!

Most Wonderful Wedding Imaginable - Hire Bob!
I couldn't recommend more as Bob is one of the most talented, flexible and accommodating people I have ever had the pleasure of working with in the industry. While I have been in the service industry for multiple decades and previously a banquet manager, I can say with upmost confidence that Bob is by far the best musician I have ever heard and I can't explain how lucky I am to have had him play at my own wedding. He can pick up anything and play music that all of your wedding guests will find themselves singing (or in my case screaming) to. I can't recommend Bob enough as he is beyond talented and while you might think that steel drums might just be background music and not necessarily sound like the original songs, not the case with Bob, I literally can not explain how talented and wonderful Bob made my wedding. He is a bit of everything but beyond talented and professional in all areas. Hire him if you want your dream wedding to come true!

Professional and positive during a tough time
We had a bad storm for our beach wedding. He got drenched but kept playing when we all took cover under a park pavilion. He just set up there and made the most of the situation. He played beautifully and gave us the tropical vibe, even during a storm. Can’t thank him enough for his positivity and professionalism. Hired Bob for our wedding, because steel drums have always been the one absolute must have for my wedding, and he did but disappoint! Wonderful steel drum music!
We booked with Bob from NJ, so all our correspondence was via email or phone calls. He is super easy to work with and was quick to respond with any questions we had. He played for both our ceremony on Smathers Beach and reception across the street at the Sheraton (Key West). It was no problem for him to move his equipment from one place to the other, and did so efficiently I didn’t even notice the move! We found plenty of music of his online to preview before we booked, and still were impressed. Our guests still comment on how cool it was to have steel drums at our wedding, and how great his playing was! We were very happy with him, and would most definitely recommend!!

He played at my daughter's wedding 1/4/20, and having him was 1 of the best decisions we made. He is wonderful to work with, and worth the cost to have him be a part of your event. Perfect Music (& Person) For A Tropical Wedding
Bob was absolutely AMAZING! He was super responsive and easy to work with when we contacted him, and even when we had to change the venue 5 months after booking him to a location 30 minutes further into the Keys! He was equally as amazing at the wedding. He made sure the music was perfect during the ceremony and that the mic and stand was ready to go for the officiant at the alter. My guests loved the Steel Drum music during cocktail hour!! He also provided DJ services for the reception which was so convenient! I really appreciated that he took the time to download and play all of the music I sent him ahead of time, and he played all of the special requested songs of my family. If I had to do it all over, I would hire him again in a heartbeat!

AMAZING...... we had a three day event, and he provided entertainment for our cheeseburger in paradise party. He is talented. My guests raved about him, and enjoyed him. What a perfect touch

Tropical cocktail music
I cannot say enough great things about Bob Lyons. The steel drum is my absolute favorite instrument. When someone told me about Bon, I knew I had to incorporate him into my wedding somehow. From the very first email, Bob was easy to communicate with and very comforting. He had a large song list which incorporated music from Disney, Caribbean, pop, etc. He was able to learn a song I wanted to walk down the aisle to which was not on his original song list. He arrived promptly on the big day. I unfortunately was very busy during cocktail hour, but many of my guests told me that day and after that the steel drum during the cocktail hour was wonderful and so unique. Bob also fit in very nicely with my tropical wedding theme. Thanks again!

Tropical Wedding with Lively Steel Pan Music
Bob was one of the highlights of my wedding! We loved the tropical vibe while he played the steel drums. My cousins helped me pick out the music for my wedding. One saw Bob on YouTube and said that I should take a look. I was delighted that Bob was located in Florida. To my surprise, he was highlighted on the Key Largo Lighthouse Beach Weddings website. I knew straight away that he would be perfect. Bob was professional, friendly and a delight to see. My guests felt like they were on a private island in the Caribbean. Bob played during my wedding ceremony and at the reception. One of my favorite songs was Little Mermaid, immediately after the ceremony. I received several compliments from my guests, especially my mother. Two of my guests were from Trinidad. It was an honor to have Bob play at my wedding, and I would hire him again. Thank you!

We wanted to create a vibe of the Florida Keys for our guests as they arrived for our wedding weekend and it was exactly what we got. We hired Bob to play at both our beach wedding ceremony and reception last week! Wow, what a great musician! So flexible and friendly! The steel drums were a dream. We had a mix up about where he was supposed to set up his DJ equipment and he happily moved everything to another location. We exchanged emails for about a year leading up to our wedding weekend at the Key Largo Lighthouse and each exchange made me more excited to meet him in person. We hired him for the steel drums during our ceremony as well as for the music during our reception. I sent him a list of numerous songs and he played all the hits as well as took requests from our wedding guests (even though they were drunk, he stayed patient with them, lol). HIRE BOB! My husband (weird!) and I are from Pennsylvania, and were having a destination wedding. We were planning on using the DJ for all of the music, and I just happened to stumble across Steel Drum Music. We said multiple times beforehand, that this was one of the more last minute decisions and one of our favorite decisions. I was a bit worried that since we were getting married at a country club, that it would be "too beachy". It was truly perfect and I'll start from the beginning.
Bob was extremely responsive while we were emailing initially. I also believe that his price is great for the service received. Well worth the money for our cocktail hour. He sent us a song list, and we could choose however many or however few we wanted off of the list. Choices were wonderful - exactly what you'd imagine! Although we booked him for the cocktail hour, he promised to be there setting up before our guests arrive so he wouldn't be bothering anyone, and he was there even before I went "into hiding". He played our recessional, and counted that towards the first hour of cocktail hour. During cocktail hour, people could not stop dancing around, watching him, taking videos, etc... It was just so fun and really set a great mood. I guess I also have to mention that he is so so talented. I'd say that's a given from his reviews, but he is a wonderful musician. If you're thinking of something different than recorded music, or a string quartet, Bob is the way to go! Even if you weren't thinking of something different, consider this instead. It was so great. Bob was a pleasure to work with! He did out ceremony and cocktail hour music and it was phenomenal! It all fit perfectly with the venue! I only wish we had more time to enjoy his music! I did not want traditional ceremony songs and he worked with us and his song list to choose ones that were amazing! I was so pleased with his music and it just added to the overall atmosphere of our special day! I would highly recommend Bob to give your wedding a special twist!!

Can't have a wedding at the Keys without Bob Lyon's Steel Drums music! It made our ceremony and cocktail hour very special and the guests were very pleased with the music.

We hired Bob for our wedding on May 9, 2009 and we liked him so much that we hired him again for my retirement party in December 2015...6 years later. He is very professional, easy to correspond with, will accommodate your needs/wants, and is reasonably priced, not to mention he is very talented and plays beautiful music. I first saw him at a wedding I was attending in Key West. Our wedding was in Delray Beach and my retirement party was in Ft Lauderdale. He travels!!! I highly recommend him for your event.

Bob was by far my favorite part of my wedding in addition to the location!! The music was AMAZING and everyone loved it. Bob played the music for my wedding and the cocktail hour back in Nov 2015. We were able to hand pick every song and had so much fun doing so. He always responded immediately when I emailed him and and was helpful in the planning process. His music is wonderful and he is very professional. I ended up ordering all his CDs after the wedding so I could continue to remember the sounds of the day. I really hope I get to hear his music in person again some day!! My husband and I HIGHLY recommend Bob for the wonderful sounds of steel drum music!! The music is magical.

Bob is such an awesome guy! We asked him to play his drums while we were walking down the aisle and for cocktail hour, and to be the emcee for the reception for our very small wedding. During the email exchange, he responded quickly to all my questions, and was flexible when plans changed a little bit. The pricing was straightforward and very reasonable. On the wedding day, he was prompt and played perfectly. The music was lovely! Couldn't ask for a better sound for the beach! I would definitely recommend him for a beach or tropical wedding.

Bob was the perfect touch for our wedding! We got married in Key Largo at the Hilton; having a beach wedding, there is no better way to walk down the isle, than to Bob playing the steel drums. He did a great job, all the music was wonderful! His services were very affordable and we was also very flexible. I had changed the date, and he was able to make adjustments so that we could still have his great music at our wedding. I wouldn't change anything about my wedding and I am so glad we found him for the ceremony and cocktail hour music. Also he is a very, very nice guy! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Bob was all that you'd hope for. He was very responsive and professional. The music was amazing and all of our guests were floored over how well Bob performed during the ceramony and cocktail hour.
Value wise, Bob was actually less expensive than we would have initally expected.
One of my best wedding memories is hearing Bob play for our guests during cocktail hour while my wife and I were getting photographed on the opposite end of the beach, at sunset.

We used Bob Lyon's Steel Drum for our son and daughter-in-law's wedding and cocktail hour which was at Bonnet House. Bob was professional and extremely easy to work with. I loved that he was quick to respond on any questions we had regarding the music. Many of the wedding quests were from out of state, and all commented on home much they enjoyed the music and the south Florida flavor Bob added to the evening. Bob made it perfect.

We hired Bob to play the steel drums for our beach wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. He is super easy to work with and played all the songs we requested. He offered us a lot of music choices from oldies to new pop music. This is such a unique thing to have at your wedding and all our guests raved about how great the music was. We really enjoyed having Bob at our wedding and have no regrets what so ever!

There is nothing like having live steel drum music at a beach wedding and Bob provided that for my wife and I. We received nothing but compliments from our guests on the music he played during our Ceremony and Cocktail Hour. It was a great personal touch that really added to the atmosphere of the hot Florida sun. His professionalism was top notch.

Bob was absolutely wonderful to work with. He was the first vendor I booked for the wedding -- knowing he was super talented and would add such a neat twist. He provided all of the necessary information to select the Ceremony music, and then even downloaded specific songs I requested in a specific order to play during the Cocktail Hour (for this very picky bride). He was so upbeat & encouraging throughout the process. While the process can be very stressful as a whole & in the many vendors you work with, Bob always left me with a smile on my face & feeling good about the experience. THANKS A MILLION for making it such a wonderful experience, and providing such great music/talent. Bob was so helpful, understanding, and professional every step of the way. He played the steel drums incredibly for two hours, then had us all dancing the rest of the night as our DJ. I can't imagine anyone else making our day so perfect. We'll never forget and we can't thank him enough.

Bob Lyons was absolutely fantastic at our wedding. He performed during our guests arrival, and performed the ceremony music. Bob was always very responsive and professional, and our guests really enjoyed the steel drum music which matched our tropical wedding venue.
We would certainly recommend Bob for any event where you need a steel drum player. It was a pleasure to work with Bob and his stress-free attitude was definitely a welcome addition to our wedding day!

Bob Lyons is AMAZING! We enlisted Bob's services for our destination wedding in Ft. Lauderdale and his presence and expertise is what made our wedding so special. But lets back up to the wedding planning phase for a second. Bob was extremely responsive to all of our inquiries, gave us great recommendations when we were choosing music, and even agreed to learn music that wasn't already in his arsenal if need be! On the day of the wedding everyone was shocked when they saw him playing the drums during the ceremony because they had no idea. The weather was perfect, beach in the background, and the sound of the steel drums made you feel like you were on an island. Bob stayed with us through the reception and played whatever we asked him to play and even did his own thing for a while. Bob is an amazing, talented, and friendly musician/entertainer and we're so glad he was part of our day! Thanks Bob!
