We just got married at Black Star Farms, and it was truly everything we dreamed of and more. The venue is absolutely stunning—set against the beautiful backdrop of Northern Michigan, it offered the perfect mix of elegance, charm, and natural beauty.
From the very beginning, the staff was incredible. Every single person we worked with went above and beyond to make sure our day was flawless. They were professional, organized, kind, and genuinely excited to help bring our vision to life. We never felt like just another wedding—they made it feel personal and special every step of the way.
Everything exceeded our expectations—from the planning process to the ceremony and dinner after. Our families couldn't stop raving about the venue, the food, and the overall experience. If you're considering Black Star Farms for your wedding, do it. You won't regret it.

I had the honor of working with Danny and Meghan for my wedding. They exceeded my expectations. Communication was timely, thorough, and professional. The food was incredible. The day of coordination and execution was beyond amazing. All of my wedding dreams came true thanks to Danny, Meghan, and the staff at Black Star Farms. If you are getting married in Northern Michigan, this place has got to be the place! I cannot adequately put into words how perfect this place is! -

My husband and I got married at Black Star in October 2022, we opted to rent the whole inn for the weekend and held our rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception on the grounds. If we had to do it all over again we would choose Black Star every single time! We could never give enough praise to the staff, everyone from the event coordinator (shout out Dustin!), the inn keepers, and the servers during all the events were amazing and beyond helpful. Having our wedding weekend at BSF made the planning process and whole weekend seem seamless to us, and we know that only happened because the staff was hard at work behind the scenes! And of course, the location is absolutely stunning (the wine is great too :) ) , it really helped make the whole event memorable and wonderful in every way!

Beautiful venue and caring staff
Black Star Farms is a beautiful place to get married! Dorothy was very responsive during the planning process. Despite all the craziness the pandemic brought: having to move our wedding date, move everything outdoors to a tent and almost having a disaster of a day for weather, Dorothy and Dustin did everything in their power to make our day beautiful and unforgettable and it absolutely was. Dustin worked with us the most on the day of and did a phenomenal job jumping right in and moving everything along and being professional. You cant beat the views, drinks, and food here. All of our guests had an amazing time. Definitely recommend BSF for your big day and also recommend choosing to stay at the Inn for your wedding weekend -

I cannot recommend Black Star Farms enough! The venue itself is beautiful the food is amazing and locally stores and the staff is beyond helpful. We feel so lucky to have had our wedding at such a beautiful and perfect venue. Dorothy was excellent to work with and Dustin was great on the day of. -

An elopement paradise
During 2020 I’ve accepted having a big wedding would not be in our cards. This venue provided the perfect package for an elopement. We chose the ‘hill top’ location for the ceremony, it was so private and picturesque! The estate was huge and very clean, I had a great experience while there! The staff helping also even ran and got us a bottle of wine for our wine box ceremony ( we were all rushing and we completely forgot to almost grab it.) he was a live savor!!! He was very knowledgeable of the wines and the cheeses on the platter. Even the email experience was amazing, great communication and fast responses! -

I would recommend Black Star Farms for any event! We had our wedding there in July 2020 and we were so happy with everything. We had a lot of external stress planning a wedding from downstate during Covid; but Dorothy and her team were exceptional. Our small wedding went beautifully - all our guests were blown away with how beautiful and nice it was. All our emails were responded to in a timely fashion and all of our endless questions were handled. Also the chef went above and beyond to create a meal for me with my specific dietary restrictions (low FODMAP diet- it's quite limiting) so that I could enjoy the wedding. I cannot say enough good things about them - everyone should get married here! : -

A Stress-free Bride
I'm so thankful we went with Black Star Farms for our wedding venue -- I was actually a stress-free bride on my wedding day. Everything was taken care of and I knew we were in good hands with the team there -- not to mention the most beautiful venue. Thanks Black Star Farms!! -

Our wedding at Black Star Farms was perfect! Our original events manager changed jobs and we transitioned to Dorothy and she picked everything up without missing a beat. We had a great time at our menu tasting and were happy to learn the chef grows a lot of the produce on site. We felt cared for through the whole planning process, with Dorothy answering every email I sent (even when they each contained 20+ questions). We planned for our ceremony to be in the vineyard, but the day of was cold and rainy so we had to move the ceremony to the Aquarius room. Dorothy delivered the news in a light-hearted manner and told me everything would be taken care of. She was right! Despite the change in location the setting was beautiful and made for an easy transition to the Pegasus barn for our guests. We've received so many compliments on the venue and our pictures on location turned out beautifully. In fact, this really is the perfect venue because we took pictures at multiple spots on location and they all give different moods and evoke different feelings. I'd highly recommend doing your first look photos between the vines in the vineyard! -

Can I go back?
I had my wedding at Black Star Farms on June 1, 2019 and it really was the best ever! A vineyard wedding was something I'd always longed for but being from the Metro Detroit area was nervous about planning from a 4-hour distance. Dorothy at Black Star Farms made it a breeze! She truly is phenomenal at her job; from the first moment we met her at the site tour to our actual wedding day Dorothy was responsive to my many emails and questions, communicative with the vendors, and really took care of every little detail to perfection. We held our ceremony up in the breathtaking vineyard and our reception in the Pegasus Barn covered in twinkle lights and chandeliers. I would definitely recommend renting a room at the Inn for the weekend; it was such a great location for getting ready in the morning and later ending the night. Ah, and the FOOD! Absolutely delicious farm-to-table menu created by the most talented chef. To this day my guests and myself continue to rave about the venue, the food, the staff, and the overall experience at Black Star Farms. I would definitely recommend this location to any bride! Thank you Black Star Farms, Dorothy, and all the wonderful staff who helped me create these memories I'll hold on to forever. -

The facility is amazing, and was the perfect place for our guests from out of state that had never seen the beauty of Northern Michigan. More than anything though, the staff was incredible and helped make our wedding the best day of our lives. Dorothy and Jackie could not have been better. They were flexible, responsive and fun to work with. They made what could have been a stressful process so much easier than we expected, and because of them we were able to enjoy every second of our special day. The food and beverage team was amazing too, and our food couldn’t have been more delicious. Every single item they made was incredible, and Black Star Farms wine was great too! An amazing place to get married, we would recommend it to absolutely anyone and everyone. Thanks again for everything Black Star Farms!

Blackstar Farms was a beautiful setting for our wedding but we must say, from start to finish, Dorothy DeBlasio, went above and beyond for us ensuring every detail of our wedding was perfectly accommodated. From our tasting event pre-wedding, to ensuring that our toddler flower girls walked down the aisle, she didn’t skip a beat. She was kind, supportive, organized and a pleasure to deal with every step of the way. If we could give her more than 5 stars we would! The food was amazing, the venue was beautifully set up and we honestly can’t say enough - get married here and you’ll be as over the moon as we are!

Her kindness, and genuine hospitality helped me feel at ease throughout the process. She was on point throughout the planning, rehearsal, wedding day, and day after. I cannot thank her enough for helping make our day perfect. The service and food at BSF is impeccable. Our guests are still talking about what an amazing dinner we had. The wine was top notch and the venue is beautiful. The best part about BSF though is the team of people who will care for you as family and ensure your dream wedding comes true!

Black Star Farms is an amazing wedding venue with something for everyone. If you love the outdoors but also want something classy then this is the place for you. The food was amazing, the staff was so easy to work with, and our wedding went off without a hitch. We had the best time here and they made the planning so straightforward. -

Nancy Sent on 08/26/2018Dorothy and the entire staff went above and beyond to provide everything my daughter and her husband could ask for. The day started with a beautiful vineyard ceremony, dinner and reception in the barn, finishing the night with a sparkler exit.
The food was amazing, defiantly 5 stars. I highly recommend Black Star for all of your wedding needs. -

Do not book
We had our wedding in August 2019 and Dorothy was our contact/event planner. When we originally signed in February 2019 Jackie was the event planner at that time. We absolutely loved Jackie!! She was amazing! She was very prompt with answering any emails/calls and was so good about helping us make choices during the process. Then not too long after, Jackie left Blackstar for another job and we were left with Dorothy. There were so many inconsistencies between the two. What we were originally told by Jackie was different when Dorothy took over.
For example:
1) we were told by Jackie that We were allowed to bring in a food truck for late night snack and it could pull up right next to the barn in the back. So we put a down payment on a food truck just to be told by Dorothy that we could not so our money was a lost. So instead we had to choose their pretzels and cheese which were clearly frozen pretzels and very hard.
2) we were told by Jackie that we could decorate the night before to help out time wise the morning of the wedding as long as there was not another event there that night before. So, we booked our rehearsal night dinner there the night before the wedding so we would be able to decorate. I then got told by Dorothy that was also a no and thus we were left scrambling to get all of our decorating done the morning of since you’re can’t start until 9am while Dorothy was out on her golf cart giving tours of the grounds to possible future wedding interests. ON THE DAY OF OUR WEDDING!!
And that is just a couple of the things that were inconsistent and caused us to loose money.
The food that we tried at our taste testing WAS NOT the same food we had at our wedding. Overall significant decrease in portion size and overall quality.
Dorothy was very rude with several of my bridesmaids along with my parents. The morning of while we were all scrambling with limited time to decorate three different areas (the barn, the Arcturos room and the vineyard) Dorothy made several rude comments. For example: my mother had asked for a table to be able to put our flowers on and Dorothy responded “You people have taken every table I have” while rolling her eyes. “You people”? Complete lack or professionalism. After our dinner around 5pm, Dorothy then went up to my father and told him she was leaving “I have kids at home I have to take care of”. We were not made aware that she would be leaving so short in the evening as she had previously told us she would be there to help throughout the night.
We also received several complaints from our other vendors on how rude Dorothy was with them both during conversations prior to the wedding and in person on the day of the wedding.
At the end of the night, you are suppose to get any left over bottles of wine that were not completely drank. This did not happen. When we booked with Jackie she had told us that there was never a wine bill greater than $1000 and ours with Dorothy was $1800 and just so happened to be not even a drop of an open bottle left over... seems odd.
The bathroom in the barn was disgusting by the end of the night. There were no staff members checking in on anything. By the end of the night all the guests and wedding parties dresses were soaked on the bottom because there was an inch of water on the bathroom floor from the toilet sweating and leaking.
For the ceremony in the vineyard it is limited spacing for parking. We were told by Dorothy that the day of the wedding there would be several golf carts with drivers to help transport the guests up to the vineyard. This did not happen, which was very hard for our elderly guests.
I could continue with many other complaints, however, there is not enough space.
The golf cart that I had to ride in to get up to the ceremony left a huge black grease mark on the front of my dress even though he assured me he just cleaned it.
We did contact the manager and notify her of all of the above and nothing was done in response.
Save yourself, DON’T BOOK!!!
