We worked with Samuel to create our wedding cake and it turned out INCREDIBLE! I cannot say enough great things about Bittersweet Pastry. They were partnered with our venue, so we only paid a minimal additional fee for the fancy Lambeth design, and we got to select two flavors: Fudge Cake + Dark Chocolate Mousse + Raspberry Preserves and Coconut Cake + Passionfruit Curd. We also ended up adding a small sweets table and all the petits fours were delicious. They will even re-make the top layer of your wedding cake for your one year anniversary, so no need to dig it out of your freezer and hope for the best! We would highly recommend Bittersweet for your wedding or cake-requiring occasion.

Amazing local bakery!
We had an amazing experience with our wedding cake bakery! They were super quick to respond and made the whole process so easy. Their "try at home" tasting was such a blast to do with my now husband—we loved getting to sample all the different cakes and fillings in the comfort of our own home. Every flavor was delicious, and it was tough to choose, but we ultimately went with a petite two-tier carrot cake, and it was perfect! The cake was not only beautiful but also incredibly tasty—everyone raved about it. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice! Highly recommend this bakery for any special occasion!

Bittersweet made a great cake at a great price for our wedding! We had an 8" and 6" tiered cake as well as a few side cakes. We chose 2 types of cakes: vanilla cake with lemon sabayon, raspberry preserves, and vanilla buttercream and marble cake with milk chocolate mousse and vanilla buttercream. Bittersweet was very easy to work with and decorated the cake exactly how we wanted. Highly recommend!

Incredible Cake!
We worked with Kerrie to design our wedding cake and it turned out amazing! They executed our design perfectly, it turned out so gorgeous! We opted for two different flavor combos - banana cake with milk chocolate mousse and chocolate ganache, and then the pinkberry cake with lemon sabayon and strawberry preserves. They were both INCREDIBLE! I can’t wait to order mini cakes for our first anniversary (and maybe every anniversary).

Bittersweet did our cake as well as sweets for our vow renewal this July. I was thoroughly impressed with the tasting process (our friends subbed in for us) and experience with booking.
Our cake turned out just like our inspiration photo!

Fantastic wedding cake!
We have all been to weddings with dry cakes - this is not one of them! Bittersweet Weddings made an absolutely delicious wedding cake for us (three tiers with chocolate mousse and white cake with ivy piping). Truly, very tasty. So much so that my husband and I got forks and dug into the cake after cutting it - it was THAT good. Cannot recommend them enough for your Chicago wedding!

My wife and I researched what were the best bakeries in Chicago when looking for someone to bake our wedding cake, and Bittersweet consistently showed up on multiple lists and websites, thus, we added them to our list for cake tastings. We did the tastings at a few different bakeries, but Bittersweet topped them all. All the different cakes and fillings we tried tasted amazing! The cakes were fluffy and full-flavored, and the fillings and icings tasted fresh and homemade as opposed to synthetic and mass-produced. Along with this, we were also able to provide an example of the design that we wanted around the cake and asked to be decorated with natural flowers, both requests which they knocked out of the park! I absolutely recommend Bittersweet, as not only did my wife and I love the cake but so did our guests!

Our caterer had recommended Bittersweet to us and after we did our tasting, it was an easy decision to use them! They have a wide variety of cake and filling flavors that you can mix-and-match however you like (talk about a fun tasting!). Bittersweet is soooo good! I think my favorite part was the tasting, haha. Our wedding cake by Bittersweet was included in our reception package at The Metropolitan Club. We worked with Nancy, who was so flexible! We had a great tasting for 4 people and got to try a wide array of flavors/fillings. She helped me design my wedding cake, and I can't believe how beautiful it was on our wedding day! Not to mention DELICIOUS!! The cake was so moist, the flavors were incredible. I had several guests compliment us on how yummy the cake was. Guests could not stop talking about how delicious the cake was!
I am so glad that the bakery that the Odyssey Lake Michigan cruises (our wedding venue) has a contract with is Bittersweet Bakery. Nancy was so easy to work with, and so accommodating of all our requests and the multiple times that we changed our minds about the cake design throughout the decision-making process. My husband, two sisters, and I had so much fun at the cake tasting trying out different fillings and cake flavors, and our final flavor combination picks were DELICIOUS (which Nancy helped to guide us through). Things were such a whirlwind on wedding day that my husband and I only got one small bite of cake (the one we fed each other when we cut the cake). We had been so looking forward to eating cake again on our wedding day, but we were too busy talking to guests the rest of the evening to realize that slices of cake had been put down at our table! However, we got so, so many compliments from our guests saying how good the cake was, and my husband and I are so excited to have cake again during our anniversary!

Great Cinnamon Roll Cake
We had two cakes for our wedding - one traditional cake and one cinnamon roll cake for our Sunday brunch wedding. We couldn't find many bakeries in Chicago that was willing to create a cinnamon roll cake but Bittersweet was ecstatic to make one. And it tasted AMAZING! From the first moment we walked into meet with Bittersweet we knew they were going to help us make our wedding special. Our guests absolutely loved our wedding cake, with not even a crumb left over. Bittersweet was one of two bakeries our venue contracted with, which we were thrilled about because they are right by our condo! We decided to go with cupcakes and then a small 8 Inch round cake to cut. When we went for the tasting, I couldn’t believe how much they gave us and how HARD I️t was to choose! Absolutely loved working with Bittersweet. At the cake tasting they bring out samples of cake and filling and you get to mix and match as you taste to figure out what you want. So if you know you want their fudge cake, but aren’t sure which of the fillings you want it with you can try it with all of them. We got so many compliments on the cake during the reception and one person ask for the name of the bakery to pass on to her son who is now engaged. We are looking forward to the fresh backed anniversary cake next year. Best part is the anniversary cake is part of the package.

There were many delicious options at our tasting, but we chose hazelnut cake with vanilla bean crème brûlée custard (my favorite) and one tier with dark chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries. I thought the raspberries overpowered the chocolate a bit, but others loved it. They also gave us a free cake for our first anniversary, which was a wonderful way to celebrate (and meant we didn't have to eat frozen year-old cake)!

We had the choice of two bakeries with our venue selection for our wedding. We chose to go with bittersweet because we felt like it tasted better than the other bakery. We also liked that rather than having us freeze the first layer of our cake for our anniversary, they give you an anniversary certificate to get a small cake to celebrate. Our display cake was actually a faux cake, but you couldn't tell from looking at it! It was beautiful and the sheet cakes they provided looked like they were cut straight from the cake. I would definitely recommend them!

Our wedding cake was PERFECT! It was light, flavorful, not too sweet, the perfect texture and totally beautiful. We had a 3-tiered hazelnut cake with chocolate mousse filling and traditional vanilla buttercream. Our guests could not stop complimenting how delicious our cake was. And it was the perfect size for our 110 guests. We had 4 slices left over, which was just the right amount to take to our honeymoon suite after the reception!
Bittersweet Bakery also really went above and beyond by providing a beautiful, etched gold cake stand at no additional charge that gave our cake such a polished and finished look. AND we did not have to worry about saving the top tier because as a part of our contract Bittersweet will make our anniversary cake fresh! We would highly recommend Bittersweet for any special occasion.

Nancy and her team at Bittersweet are fantastic! Nancy was responsive throughout the process, updating the invoice every time the guest count changed, and even emailing us at 11:00 the night before to nail down the delivery time.
I knew from the minute we sat down for the tasting, they were going to do our cake. The tasting was professional, they offered coffee and tea, and they brought out a beautifully arranged plate of all their different sponges, fillings, and icings. We came so close to a carrot cake and banana bread wedding cake - that's how good everything was! The cake was beautiful when it arrived, and they did a great job of interpreting our wedding style into a cake (which was - we have no clue, just make it timeless!). Everyone loved the cake, and we had no leftovers at the end of the night - my parents took home four pieces!

Get ready for the easiest and hardest decision in your wedding planning. Choosing Bittersweet is the easy decision. Nancy, who was our host, was great to work with. Our experience started with the tasting. We had the idea of the cake we wanted in our mind when we arrived. But as we waited the samples to arrive, we came across a little book of cakes in our table. The variety of the cakes that Bittersweet created is astonishing. As we browsed, we came across the city skyline band that we incorporated into our design. When we showed the design we wanted to Nancy, she did not hesitate to confirm that they could handle it.
When Nancy came out with the samples, our hardest decision has begun. So many different flavors cooked with precision. The best part is, you keep the samples!
Although we did not see the finished cake until the wedding day, the final result was one of the most beautiful part of our wedding. Bittersweet created our wedding cake as good as we hoped and everyone at our wedding enjoyed the flavors. We can't wait to go back next year to get the complementary 1 year anniversary cake.

We had Bittersweet Pastry Shop create our wedding cake and grooms cake, which turned out AMAZING! Months before my wedding, I had been looking for a bakery all over the city without really being impressed. I probably tasted 6 or 7 cakes/frosting before I was recommended by a friend to Bittersweet. We scheduled a tasting, and got to try a variety of delicious cake flavors, frosting, moose, and fruit filling. The experience was fantastic. Nancy made it very easy by showing us the quality of their work in photos of cakes they had previously made. She explained how much cake we needed per guest, and even helped us figure out how to make a grooms cake work in our budget. We ended up with our main cake being a 4 tier round layered cake of white and chocolate cake with white and chocolate fudge frosting and a Lego grooms cake with banana cake and chocolate frosting. The flavor was spectacular. It's been months since our wedding and our guests still rave about the cake! I absolutely recommend this shop to anyone shopping for a wedding cake.

Everything about our experience from the tasting to the wedding was fantastic. The cake was moist and delicious. My only regret is that I did not have a chance to try both flavors.
Nancy was very responsive and kept me apprised of the delivery plan.
I love that we got a certificate for a fresh cake on our 1 year anniversary, no stale cake story in our future! :)

The cake turned out beautifully and tasted even better! The cake tasting was amazing, so many options to choose from. They were very flexible and even allowed my mother and in-laws to join the tasting. We chose a sweets table and was not disappointed with any of the options, I just wish I could've taken some home!

We worked with Bittersweet to create cake pop place cards for our wedding this June. Nancy, who I worked directly with during the process, was great. She was extremely responsive and even offered to attach all the name cards for us when the cake pops were done. The cake pops were delivered by Bittersweet to our venue on time on the day of our wedding which helped us get them set up on the place card table without any stress. Most importantly, the cake pops were delicious and were a huge hit with our guests. We did two flavors - vanilla and fudge – and we had so many people mention the cake pops in the weeks following the wedding. They were the best that we've ever had. I’m glad that we ordered a few extras just in case, as my husband and I got to enjoy several of them the next day. I would highly recommend Bittersweet to anyone looking for high quality bakery treats.

Bittersweet was an amazing experience from beginning to end. From scheduling the tasting, to the actual tasting of almost everything they make, to delivery and finally EATING it, it was all wonderful. Delicious, moist cakes, beautiful slices, more than ample amounts of cake for everyone to feel full to bursting, and a beautiful and tasteful cake design. The best part for me though was the affordability. I felt like we got $1000 worth of cake for much, much less. Highly recommended!

We had cake tastings at three different bakeries and Bittersweet won hands down. Not only did their cakes taste amazing, but the price was reasonable, and they didn't have to use fondant to make it look pretty. We provided the cake topper and cake stand to them ahead of time and everything arrived perfect the day of the wedding.
Sometimes the cake tasting process is overwhelming and you don't know where to start or what a "normal" cake/filling/icing combination is. But Nancy was super sweet and helpful, she gave us suggestions, gave us space to try things at our own pace, checked in on us, answered all our questions. It was such a fun experience and their cakes were just sooooo good. We ended up with two flavors: 1) banana cake with dark chocoolate mousse and salted caramel drizzle and 2) hazelnut cake with vanilla bean brulee and raspberry preserves. We got so many compliments on our cake during the wedding through now (weeks after the wedding). I'm already looking forward to our one year anniversary where we get to go back and get a complimentary cake from Bittersweet. No freezer burned cake top here!
P.S. - Banana cake is a good density smooshable cake for anyone who plans on smashing cake on their loved one's face. I'm going to do it every year. Muhahahahaha!

My husband and I met with multiple wedding cake designers for our May 2014 wedding and Bittersweet was by far the most delicious, creative and paid the most attention to detail.
We worked with Nancy, she was easy to get in contact with and provided us with honest feedback (ex: letting me know gold fondant would look too dark against rock candy).
Bittersweet did an amazing job on our cake, the design was flawless. Even better, the cake tasted phenomenal! It was moist and the fruit layers contained a substantial amount of filling. I would highly recommend them! I can't wait until our anniversary so I can eat it again :)

WOW. We were having a wine themed wedding and we wanted fresh grapes all over our cake. Nancy and her Bittersweet team made sure that the triple tiered cake she delivered was just as beautiful and delicious as we had expected it to be. I even wanted a picture of the cake texted to me the morning of our wedding and sure enough, as soon as it was done being decorated, I received a photo and a few words of encouragement! I have fond memories of Bittersweet Bakery from birthday cake celebrations in college with my friends! Because of this, I knew they would be the perfect place to go for our wedding cake and sweets table. Nancy was so easy and lovely to work with! She helped us design the perfect cutting cake to match our ceramic bird toppers. The tasting was delicious and beautiful - we tried every flavor cake and filling (this is standard) as well as all of the bite-sized sweets for our sweets table. We ordered more sweets for the table than we thought we would need but they were so delicious and such a hit that we ended up with barely any leftover! You better believe we have those leftovers tucked away in the freezer and cannot wait for our first year anniversary to enjoy them again. My husband and I highly recommend Bittersweet! Bittersweet is the best bakery in the city for cakes and has been for at least 10 years. I've ordered small cakes previously, and the crowd always raves! My wedding cake was no different--I chose a simple design, and the cake was absolutely delicious, elegant, and affordable. Recently, I ordered a cake and cake pops for a baby shower that were much more complicated--Bittersweet put together beautiful gumpaste shoes, and the cake pops were decorated like little baseballs. Again, everything was delicious and beautiful! You will never make a mistake going with Bittersweet. Oh, and they also do gluten-free!

One of our guests ate 4 pieces of our cake, and declared it the best cake ever -- and he and his wife had purchased their wedding cake from Bittersweet just 8 months before!
We needed a wedding cake that would feed 50 guests, and we wanted something that was 'us'. After an amazing tasting, we wound up with a cake that was to die for. We had an almond cake with white chocolate mousse and coconut, with a buttercream frosting. The two tier cake was very simple, with a ribbon of teal (the color of the bridal party) banded around the base. It was pretty to look at and delicious to eat.
Bittersweet will provide you with a mini-version of your wedding cake if you send them a photo of your cake. I'm eagerly looking forward to reliving the dessert experience in a year!

My husband and I ordered our wedding cake here. We worked with Nancy, who was fantastic. We came in for a tasting, which I highly recommend, and from there chose exactly what we wanted. Nancy, was extremely helpful, responsive and willing to work with us in every way. We were hesitant to use buttercream because of our previous exposure to the typical buttercream taste. Their buttercream is so light and delightful it's closer to a whip cream. It's perfect! We want to use this bakery for every event. I was absolutely thrilled when I found out that our wedding reception package included a cake from Bittersweet Bakery. My family and I have been long time fans of the bakery and so I was thrilled that my wedding cake would be coming from Bittersweet. The cake tasting was one of the best parts of wedding planning. We met with Nancy at the bakery and she was very patient as she walked us through all the cake, frosting, and filling choices. Everything was delicious! She also helped to put together a cake design using elements from various pictures that I liked. A couple of hours after our tasting, Nancy emailed a proposal. My four-tier wedding cake was not only beautiful, it was delicious! I had two flavors, both were moist. Often times wedding cakes are dry. Not mine. I was unsure what to expect because the hotel was including the cake in our package and we got a choice of 2 bakeries. i brought in a picture of a cake with the Chicago skyline and the consultant said they could do it and offered some suggestions for improvements and decoration of the cake table. She sketched out her ideas and they were cool.The tasting was great as we got to sample all the cake favors with each filling. They all tasted fantastic! Bittersweet Bakery made a gorgeous three-tier white gumpaste ruffled cake for my Sept. 22, 2012 wedding and it tasted just as delicious as it looked. I chose a coconut cake with creme brulee custard filing and fresh strawberries. We had a slight snafu at the tasting as the bakery did not secure coconut cake before hand but Amy went above and beyond, cutting into a pre-made cake for us to taste. She then followed up with a small cake we picked up at a later date made with our chosen ingredients.
My sister, who planned our wedding, pre-delivered a cake stand she embellished with chandelier crystals. Bittersweet was very specific with cake stand requirements, which helped my sister know what to create; Bittersweet used her custom design without a hitch. On the wedding day, the bakery gave us a five-hour window for delivery to the venue. I believe that worked out fine for the caterer and florist, who decorated the cake with fresh flowers.
As for the amount of cake, I also had a dessert buffet which resulted in leftover cake. In addition to the three-tiers (10-inch, 8-inch, 6-inch rounds), I ordered two 10-inch side cakes that would be served but not put on display. Both of the side cakes were not eaten at the reception but we served them the next day at our Sunday brunch. I had a total of 127 guests so I would recommend no side cakes if you are also having a dessert bar.

Bittersweet made the most amazingly delicious wedding cake for us! It was three layers of banana cake with vanilla creme brulee filling and fresh strawberries. As someone who doesn't always like cake, this was one I was looking forward to for months - I think I bragged about it to anyone who would listen after our tasting - and I'm sad I didn't get to eat more on the day. Now I have to wait a whole year to eat the topper!
In regards to the process, Bittersweet was wonderful to work with. We actually had this tasting immediately after our other option (not totally recommended...that's a lot of sugar), which was Amy Beck Cakes. Amy Beck was sweet, but the flavour combination we came upon at Bittersweet decided it for us. Our coordinator at Bittersweet was Amy C., who took the time to talk through design options and sketch out a cake that we would not have thought to consider otherwise. This was awesome, because we really felt like we were getting a unique cake, just for us. She only laughed a little when we gave her our Lego people topper; her emails and calls were always quick and on time; and, best of all, she worked out a great solution to get the cake we wanted within our price range.

We came in not really knowing what we would like and Judy gave us books of wedding cake photos to look through- this process helped us greatly. The cake tasting was so much fun and tasted amazing. Our guests said it was the best cake they have had!

I loved my cake from Bittersweet. It was honestly one of my favorite parts of the wedding. I showed Judy a photo of a cake I had found in a magazine, which had ivy tumbling down the tiers, and she assured me she could recreate it. What she actually did was create a much more beautiful version with various shades of green which looked spectacular. It was incredible to look at and each of the three tiers was truly delicious. The price was also a very pleasant surprise. I would recommend Bittersweet to anyone.

Bittersweet made a great cake for our wedding. We were having a dessert table, but still wanted a small cake to cut. I went in to the store and was able to pick out the cake size, flavors, and decoration within 30 minutes. The delivery was on time and the cake looked better than we'd expected. And of course, it was delicious!

This is my favorite bakery! There cakes are AMAZING! They have these to die for Macaroons! Try them if you like something sweet! We always get our birthday cakes from here!
We get the banana cake filled with vanilla creme brulee, fresh bananas and finished with a dark chocolate glaze. YUMMO!
I've always wanted my wedding cake from here, but we are on a budget so I tried another bakery to save some money. We had a horrible experience with them that I ended up going back to our original choice... BITTERSWEET!
Tonight we met with the cake coordinator, Sue Ann.
We were about 10 minutes late because of traffic and they were still so accommodating! The nice girl first offered us coffee or tea in addition to the water they already gave us. Then we met Sue Ann and she had offered it to us again.
She was very professional and didn't mind we were late. Remind you we stared with her about 6:15 and they close at 7:00. We both had our own plate with cakes and all these assortments of different options. She explained each one patiently, gave us the time we needed and checked on us a few times in between. She LISTENED TO ME! Not like the other bakery we went to. We ended up selecting a BEAUTIFUL 4 tiered cake (Butter cream) but there butter cream looks like fondant but doesn't taste like it! It's sooo smooth, does it get any better than that!?!?
Sue Ann had such great pictures of there beautiful work that had our ideas going. When we were done she went over our cakes that she had asked us to mark. She asked us what was it that we liked about each cake and then she got her drawing paper out and sketched our dream cake!
I have to say that this was the same price that the other bakery was! Compared to the other place, BITTERSWEET hands down won! Their professionalism, patience, listening skills has exceeding our expectations! She really got it and we can't wait for our dream cake! We have all the trust in them that it will turn out beautiful!
I was searching for a very long time with all the other bakeries. No I haven't been to many others but I can tell you that Bittersweets pricing for their wedding cakes is a lot lower than some of these other places! Trust me, save yourself time!! Check them out if you haven't. You'll see what I'm talking about! We got a BEAUTIFUL cake with tax and delivery for UNDER $500! WOW! For some reason I thought it would have been a lot more for what we got!

We live in the neighborhood, so we were familiar with Bittersweet--they'd provided a beautiful cake for a family birthday celebration a few years earlier. So we were pleased, but not surprised, when the cake our consultant helped us design was both "simply" beautiful and absolutely delicious. Did our guests like the cake? Oh, yes! They devoured every last slice . . . and crumb! Scrumptious!

The team at Bittersweet is outstanding. My daughter tasted and thus created her own cake. She also picked the design on t.he cake and it was truly hers. There were two groom's cakes and my daughter further individulized the cakes by making one a White Sox and one a Wisconsin Badgers. Everyone on the team was very helpful

This bakery came as a package deal with our wedding catering and venue. We had few ideas in advance of our tasting - they gave great combination options in terms of cake, filling, fruit and icing - this was one of the more fun parts of wedding planning, for sure. I cant speak about the billing/payment as this was part of a package deal I had. Everyone at the reception loved the cake, too. I highly recommend.

Bittersweet designed a beautiful cake for our wedding based on some very vague ideas provided by us. We asked for an autumnal cake with reds and oranges, and could they please include maple leaves? The cake we received was not only exactly what we had in mind, it was the most delicious wedding cake I've ever tasted. They don't sacrifice flavor for beauty!
In addition, if you send them one of your professionally shot photos of the cake after the wedding, they'll make you a free replica of your top tier for your first anniversary!

We booked our cake with Bittersweet after having a terrible experience with another bakery. Everything about this place is awesome. If you've never been inside, I recommend you go for lunch one day. Their food is really good (more than just pastries) and it is just wonderful to sit in there and soak up the French-inspired atmosphere. The cake tasting experience is exactly what were looking for. It is elegant, low-key, no pressure (they leave you alone to discuss the cakes and then come back and go over it with you so you can feel free to express your opinions), and fun... not to mention delicious! Our cake was exactly what we had in mind. It was beautiful and tasted amazing! I don't even like cake and I could not get enough of this stuff! Everyone raved about how pretty is was. Highly, highly recommended!

They did a great job and would take on any challenge... The tateing was a ton of fun and very educational. The cake looked beautiful on the day and also got lost of compliments. They made it very simple and easy to choose the right cake and the right look.

We had our cake included in our venue catering package and we were worried that it would be difficult to get what we wanted or that they wouldn't care since it's not like we had a choice, we were wrong! We absolutely loved our cake, flavor AND look, it was PERFECT! And our guests loved it too, we got a lot of positive comments on it and could not be happier, thank you! The response to e-mails sometimes was slow, but other than that it was perfect!

Delicious, great customer service. We had so much fun during the tasting when they brought us each individual platters with little cakes, fillings, fruits and buttercream to taste all sorts of combination. Working with SueAnn was great -- she put us at ease, and I never worried about the cake at all. It was beautiful, and everyone loved it. I also like that we will get a fresh top tier sent to us on our first anniversary. Highly recommend.

Bittersweet provided a bride & groom's cake for our wedding. One was almond with strawberry and lemon filling, and the other was chocolate with ganache. Nancy was attentive during our tasting & design consultation and very willing to listen to feedback after the initial round of sketches. The cakes turned out beautifully, and more importantly, they were absolutely delicious! They were very flavorful and had excellent texture - we can't wait to pick up our mini anniversary cake so we can try some more.

Our cake from Bittersweet got rave reviews from our guests, and looked exactly like we wanted it to. I didn't want anything over complicated, and they worked with me to land on a design and deliver it exactly. We did two different flavors, and couldn't choose our favorite. I would highly recommend Bittersweet for delicious cake! I also appreciated that they didn't try to upsell me on more than what we needed. We actually had to add tiers to the original design since they were suggesting the more economical side cake to serve from!

Bittersweet did an amazing job with our cake design-we asked for a specific geometric pattern to match the pattern on all of our paper products, and and it turned out exactly like we asked. The colors were great, too. I was a little worried because one of the colors was a blush pink shade and I was concerned that it might end up being too dark/hot pink, but it was perfect. We got a lot of compliments on the taste of the cake, as well. The couple bites I had were great, and I don't even really like cake that much! It was hazelnut cake with mocha mousse and cream cheese frosting. Bittersweet is expensive, but not out of line with other bakeries I checked in the area. Nancy was really easy to work with and responsive, as well.

Bittersweet did not disappoint! Our tasting was fun, and we chose a three-tier round cake with different cake flavors and fillings on each tier. The outside was frosted with a simple stucco buttercream and fresh flowers provided by our florist, so I can\'t speak to their ability with fancy fondant or decorations. Our cake was included in the price of our venue package, so I also can\'t speak to cost. We tried all three tiers of the cake on our wedding day and they were absolutely delicious. Our guests raved! There were some errors on our initial and revised order form that we had to correct, but in the end Bittersweet did a fabulous job. I had previously ordered a large birthday cake from them and they also did a fantastic job on that cake, which was beautiful and delicious. I highly recommend Bittersweet for special occasion cakes.

Let's face it. Most wedding cakes look like crap and taste even worse. Bittersweet solves both of these issues. No, I did not choose a traditional cake, but my guests feasted on a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting tier as well as 2 tiers of fudge cake with mocha and dark chocolate filling, all topped with buttercream (what else) and chocolate glaze. Amazing.

Bittersweet did our wedding cake through its relationship with the W Hotel on Lakeshore. Many of our guests gave us compliments on the cake! They all seemed surprised that wedding cake could taste THAT good. From the tastings to design to delivery, it all went well. We had some trouble getting a response from our contact there at first, but that was due to a change in employees. After the next person took over, it was smooth sailing.

We worked with both Judy and Amy from bittersweet - Judy recommended different flavor combinations (not even on the menu!) and helped us stick to our budget (offering lots of options). Amy helped me change around the cake decorations... I was hesitant to confirm these over the phone and not see them in person, but it turned out beautifully and tasted AMAZING. Can't wait to eat the frozen slice in the freezer next year!

We got a package with Omni Chicago Hotel. The wedding cake was provided by Bittersweet. Absolutely no regrets! Nancy Fetsch from Bittersweet was amazing to work with :) I was overseas when we spoke over the phone about the wedding cake design. I emailed her some images of cake designs that my fiance and I liked. We settled on a design and the rest was history. We linked them up with our florist (for flowers on the cake) and delivered the cake topper a week in advance. The cake looked absolutely gorgeous when we finally saw it! The cake tasting was also wonderful - we got to try all the flavours that they had and the various fillings available. In the end, my fiance and I settled for a banana cake with chocolate creme brulee filling and a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. It was a three-tier cake with buttercream frosting. We loved it! The cake was deliciously moist and flavourful. We're glad we still have some to enjoy for the rest of the week! :)
