  Amazing affordable and delicious desserts

  Kenya did a incredible job of making and displaying everything for our desserts table at our wedding! It was absolutely beautiful and tasted even better.

  Big Mamma's was awesome!

  Big Mamma's was awesome! The food was amazing and we received so many comments from our guest on it. Kenya was so helpful and kind. We got our food, cake, linens, and photobooth from Big Mamma' s. When we tried the food for the first time decided not only did we want them for our wedding but the rehearsal dinner as well. The cup cakes and cake was so good. The photobooth was so fun and we got the album to go with it which was such a joy to look at the next day. Kenya was so easy to get in touch with, easy going and helpful. They offer so much and great service. I would highly recommend Big Mamma's.

  Great Food, Great Service, Great People!

  There is no better food around than at Big Mamma's. We had breakfast for dinner catered for 200 people at our wedding, and it was absolutely amazing. They also did our cake and other desserts which turned out beautifully! Kenya also happens to be one of the kindest people you will ever work with. She is flexible, understanding, and hard-working, too. Would highly recommend!

  Simply the best!

  Kenya and her team are absolutely amazing. They truly went above and beyond for our wedding. Its clear her staff is professional and courteous as they each go above and beyond for the client. Aside from the great customer service, the food is DELICIOUS - so many of our guests still rave it! We truly could never thank them enough. If you're looking for a caterer who will work to make sure everything at your event is absolutely perfect, Big Mamma's is the way to go! Highly highly recommend.

  One stop shop for all our needs!

  Big Mamma catered all the food for my 100 guest wedding. I was referred to Kenya from a friend from work and went to an open house she was hosting and the moment I tried her macaroni and cheese I was hooked!! Kenya is very quick to respond to emails throughout the process, and I love all the decorations she provided for the buffet display! We did bbq and her roasted chicken with mac and cheese, green beans, and cole slaw! Everyone loved the food and the incredible service. We also got a dessert bar that included a two tier wedding cake, cupcakes, mini cheesecakes, and banana pudding shooters. Dessert table goals right there!! Kenya takes pride in using 100% real ingredients with all her cooking and it shows with great home cooked food filled with love!!

  AMAZING food, wonderful service, and great value

  Uncle Reggie and his staff did a wonderful job for our wedding of around 150 people. We had a delicious menu of pulled pork, herb crusted chicken, mac and cheese, green beans, cole slaw, and rolls. The mac and cheese was incredible!! Mac and cheese is my favorite food, and Uncle Reggie's is the best I've eaten! From the beginning, Big Mamma's/Uncle Reggie's was professional, responsive, and enjoyable to work with. They also did a wonderful spread for our cocktail hour of cheese, crackers, and fruits.
  
  I also loved the little details that Big Mamma's focused on. They asked for pictures of our decor and matched the catering table to our theme.   Just like Mamma use to make it

  One of the most important highlights to any event the thing that people remember most is the food. I knew the moment I went for my tasting with Kenya and tasted the generous portions of herb roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, salmon and green beans that there was no one else I wanted to work with for my big day. Kenya’s professionalism is out of this world and every question, concern, issue and request was met with patience and it made planning my big day that much easier. Every single person gave rave reviews on the food and Kenya and her staff made every guest feel welcome and made sure they were well fed. The fruit and veggies for my cocktail hour were fresh and even my 7 month old niece gave her stamp of approval for the herb mashed potatoes. In conclusion if you want fresh delicious made from scratch home cooked stick to your ribs food Big Mamma’s is the way to go I promise you won’t regret it.

  Best Catering in Richmond

  Can not say enough wonderful things about Big Mamma's! Kenya was quick to respond and so professional throughout the entire experience. Speaks highly to have the owner of your catering at your event throughout. The food was AMAZING! After attending many different weddings it seems to happen frequently that the food never matches to the taste test. We had so many compliments on all of the food. The dessert bar was GORGEOUS and choices like S'Mores cheesecake and banana pudding cups were so delicious. Kenya and her team were quick serving and even reached out before for any Vegan and Vegetarian needs. As an LGBT couple, we were hesitant with all vendors, but quickly had all worries erased. Loved the team and would absolutely recommend and use again in the future!

To put it over the top the decor for all the serving tables truly flowed with our decor. She also provides silverware and plates which is an added bonus. She was able to do gold silverware (instead of silver) to better accomodate our wedding colors. If you are on the fence please book her.

Kenya also did our 2 tier wedding cake and cupcake assortment. Kenya will work with your budget and your vision and help to make this part of the wedding planning process so easy.

  Kenya catered my wedding on 6/2/18. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. I'm kind of greedy so I asked Kenya beforehand if she could make sure my husband and I got to taste the food from the cocktail hour and she made sure we had it on our plate!   Let me preface this by saying, you are a fool if you do not choose Big Mamma’s as your caterer for your event! They are an all-in-one package deal with affordable prices and top notch service! Kenya and her staff catered my wedding this past Saturday, May 12th. I didn’t do any tasting beforehand because I could just tell from the reviews alone that the food would be amazing. Their passion radiates through their food and service. They far exceeded my expectations! I couldn’t be any happier. Their operations were so seamless and smooth. They are incredibly detailed and took such good care of us from decorating the buffet tables to bringing plates of food to my table for my wife and I to eat to thoughtfully packing up all our leftovers. Our buffet included bbq pulled chicken, bbq pulled pork, mac n cheese, green beans, roasted potatoes, rolls, fruits, veggies, cheese, and crackers. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS!!! The bbq chicken and pork did not need any sauce whatsoever. All the food was very well seasoned. My guests couldn’t get enough and went back for seconds especially on the mac n cheese. There was plenty of food to go around. Even the carrot sticks were magically delicious without any ranch! Our 1 tier chocolate cake, banana pudding cupcakes, and strawberry cupcakes were to die for!!! I hardly had any cake left over and our families were fighting over the other left overs. Having Big Mamma’s provide even the little things such as cake cutting service, napkins, utensils, plates, and cups made things less stressful. I can rave on and on and on about Big Mamma’s, but I think I’ve said enough. They are absolutely amazing! If I could give a 10 start rating, I would.

  We booked Kenya as our caterer with almost 2 years until our wedding and thank God we did! (Her availability goes away fast). Kenya was an absolute pleasure to work with over the course of 2 years and did an outstanding job at our wedding!

  Disappointing

  I wish I didn't have to give this review, but we were disappointed with our catering experience with Big Mamma's Catering.  Apparently, the week before the wedding there was much discussion between the bride, venue owner and catering owner about misunderstandings in the contract.  
  Our experience was strictly at the wedding.  The food was just okay. However, the staff were not friendly and did not have a serving attitude.  People mentioned they had spoken to the staff but they did not respond.  There were no smiling faces.  They just didn't act like they wanted to be there and did not want to be helpful. Every aspect of setting up and cleaning up had to be negotiated and micromanaged as they were noticeably unwilling to do what was required.  
  At the end of the night we were very surprised and disappointed to hear that the catering owner had cursed at the venue owner in the kitchen, dropping the F-bomb twice.  Under any circumstance this would be unprofessional and disrespectful, but especially at a wedding where you are paid to serve.  Thankfully, our guests didn't know what was going on in the kitchen.  The wedding couple had met with the caterer before and really thought they would provide a great service, but they did not.  Regretfully, we would not recommend Big Mamma's Catering.

  Big Mamma’s Event Services's reply:

  I’m sorry Mr Hubbard that we had issues with your event. Negotiating venue requirements are typical as we were not aware of some of their demands until the last minute and had not contracted you for it. I definitely didn’t want the last minute stress for the bride but was more than willing to help get it all done.
  
  As stated when we were there, our issues were behind the scenes. I humbly apologize if our “attitudes” of what were we’re dealing with showed on our faces. It was certainly not our intention nor our usual. No one knew or witnessed any of it so I understand it’s our word against hers; but all 4 of our experiences were the same.
  
  It was very unprofessional and I wish I had not gone there with Chanel. I apologize repeatedly at the event to you all and I mean it. I draw the line with someone putting their hands on one of my staff.
  
  Again, I am deeply sorry for all of the things that occurred and wish you all nothing but the best.

  Not a good partner for your day

  We had booked Big Mamma’s catering in 2019 for our wedding reception in July 2020. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions we were unable to have our wedding and had to postpone. Our entire vendor team was able to accommodate the move except for Big Mamma’s, as Kenya said she was unavailable for weddings in 2021 (I now know because she moved to AZ). Kenya refused to return any portion of the $1,410 deposit, as the contract stated it was non refundable. While I understand the provision in the contract, it would have been nice to see her make some effort to accommodate this issue, which was clearly out of our control. I’m sure this amount she pocketed is more than the profit she would have made from our event. Kenya was subcontracting our desserts to Sugar Head bakery, so after some back and forth she agreed to put $500 of our deposit towards that cost and we could at least still have our desserts. Well after a few months she said Sugar Head was now also no longer available, and she would still be keeping that $500. This was a very upsetting experience, which really hurt us financially and only added to the incredible disappointment of trying to have a wedding during a pandemic. If you are looking for a vendor partner who can be flexible and work with you through a difficult time, look elsewhere.

  I am sorry that things had not worked out with our agreements. Covid has been a huge issue for many people and has ravaged small businesses. Sugar Heads closed their doors as well which is out of our hands. I actually never said anything about the dessert arrangement other than I needed to double check their intent to close. No one on your end responded to me.
  
  We understand everyone has to do what’s best for them and their families even though we were not under restrictions on your original wedding date. We hosted another wedding on the same day with no issue. Your decision to postpone is personal and we completely respect that decision. Our decision to relocate is also personal and was in the works well before 2020 which is why we stated we couldn’t reschedule anyone onto 2021. We were asked our availability and you all chose a date that we did not have. I am sorry it played out that way. No one responded to my last email dated July 13, 2020. If you had, we would have made other arrangements with you as we did many meals throughout the summer and holidays for clients we could not accommodate. Again, I am sorry for this inconvenience and overall impossible situation. I hope you all are staying healthy and have a wonderful wedding day.
