I was looking for a non-religious officiant and I could not be happier with Bernie. He not only is a great speaker and officiant, he makes it really easy to create a meaningful and beautiful ceremony with his suggestions on quotes and rituals. His voice and speech is impeccable and talking to him before and after the ceremony was a huge bonus. Highly recommend. -

Bernard Glos was very organized and gave us many options to choose from. He let us customize our wedding ceremony to be what we wanted it to be. He was very professional and the communication before the ceremony was great! He does not participate in the rehearsal (unless requested for an extra fee) and I didn't see any problem with him not being there for that. I would highly recommend Bernard Glos! -

Bernie did such an amazing job at our ceremony. He was so professional, kind, prompt and reliable in every aspect! He walked us through our entire process and was there every step of the way answering any questions we had and serving our every need and want with good advise and tips! He truly accommodated our needs to have an extremely personal and sentimental ceremony. We loved his explanation of what the humanist society that he is a part of is along with their belief system and I think it reflects him as a person quite well.
He charges $100.00 and is worth WAY more, but like he told me, he isn’t in this to make money - I believe him and really like the authenticity!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! -

Bernard is just amazing

We never wanted an officiant for our wedding. To get our date, we had to because the city we married in only does so many weddings a day still due to covid restrictions, that will end this May. We were never willing to budge on our date. It was our 5th anniversary of dating. It had sentimental value. So we had to find an officiant. The one we hired was one of 3 to get back to me and I strongly think I would have less regrets had I given the other two a go.
Bernard comes with a great library of material to throw together for your ceremony. Some things are original some I already had saved onto my phone somewhere as well. He says he can preform multiple ceremonies, like hand-fasting or the sand. Make sure to bring your own sand, or he’ll definitely yell at you.
We are not from the state we are getting married in, like many other couples. I can only be as versed in the law as Google lets me. And to our knowledge we’ve seen family in Illinios sign documents at weddings and other couples in states with similar laws not needing witnesses have used their dogs the day off. We sent over this idea to him first thing because our dogs are very important to us. He yelled at me through email in all caps. Didn’t even calmly explain why that legally was an issue. I got a “NO! NO OTHER SIGNATURES!” with a lengthy and just as mean explanation. I was afraid to tell anyone I had been screamed at by my officiant in email because I just really needed my paper signed on that day. But it made me nervous and continued to give me stress. We agreed on a location and I have it in writing. He calls me screaming about where we are at (as if weddings always start on time) and tells me he is at a chase bank and won’t be leaving the location to head to where we are suppose to meet. He was so rude, I couldn’t wait to get off the phone with him. I was in tears and my mom called him back and tried to figure out what was up and where he was at and why he was being a brat. He yelled at her too and hung up on her. We get to the bridge he’s not there and we see no one at the chase bank across the street, the groom calls him and this man was also rude and hung up on the groom. Lastly my father calls him and tells him where we are all at. Tells him we see the freaking chase bank. And explains that yelling at everyone and acting this way gets no one nowhere.
He finally shows up after we froze and waited by the river for 10 more minutes after he screamed at me when we were on our way. We get out our license and our materials for the ceremony. We agreed to do hand fasting and to my knowledge we thought he would be tying the knot. He gets into a squabble with the groom when we are standing together about to start and tells us to hang onto the rope… he also only wrapped it around our hands and pulled it completely off leaving NO KNOT. How dumb, he had no idea what he was doing, and we wished he had communicated that because we had practiced the infinity on our own. We later went back and tied our own knot the next day because he messed that up for us. He even said the lines about the knot not coming out and everything and there was still no knot. But two cherries on top of the whole thing were: when the groom finally just took the rope and put it in his pocket after the little fight and this man muttered under his breath AT THE GROOM “Jesus Christ”… and then I started my vows. Absolutely appalling, uncalled for, and rude. I’m not even religious and I was offended he would say that to the groom when we were so close we could whisper. What the hell, is wrong with this man?
Lastly, he nearly just ran off with the license and rudely explained that in Illinios you don’t need signature and that he would be taking it to the court house. After the whole exchange, I did not feel it trustworthy enough for him to get things to the right places. Our Illinios family who have all signed licenses in the last two years were a little puzzled by his last exchange… because they’ve all signed. So I can only hope we’re married, at minimum, he has the legal verbiage for IL wrong, as long as the couple believe it to be a legal marriage, thus it shall be. So if he’s a quack, it won’t matter.
It’s a week out and I’m having nightmares about more emails in caps from this man that don’t exist. He was the worst part of our day and truly truly the only regret. I would not pay him any amount of money to possibly ruin your day. He’s not flexible or nice, he has no business being in the wedding business.
To add injury to insult; he disputed my review which was nearly immediately reinstated no issues on my end and he has replied that he was regretful he didn’t “require it be indoors”… he could’ve said no, and he didn’t from the beginning of our interactions. And it’s not his day! It’s also the Windy City, which his profile says he services, surely he has done services with wind before, the excuses. Again, he could’ve said no from the beginning of our interactions and DID NOT.
0/10 For experience and professionalism. As I said once, he should not be in the wedding business if he cannot handle weddings that he did not plan himself. My photographer did a great job of hiding him in most photos because my very small group had an awful experience with this man. Shame that he would ruin my day or make me change my plans. I regret you were not satisfied with my services. You wanted to get married by the green-dyed Chicago river on St. Patrick’s Day in downtown Chicago. The temperature was in the low 20’s with 40 mph winds. You were not at the location we agreed to meet at 2 pm that day. I called and you said you were still at your hotel, running late. I called again later as you had not arrived. You said you were in a different location, but could not give me accurate directions. I called several times as I was wandering through the river area trying to find you, which I eventually did. I told you very clearly that Cook County in Illinois only allows one signature on the marriage license: the officiant’s. Anything else on the form renders it invalid. You seemed not to understand that and I finally just had to say NO! I learned this through experience. They are very strict. They also require an exact street address of the ceremony, which I now had to find since you were not at the place and address we agreed. I did not scream in emails or on the phone, but I was getting a bit upset and a bit frozen trying to find you.. When we came to the hand fasting, I had only one free hand; the other was holding on to my ceremony book so it did not fly off into the river. The rope nearly did so. I did mutter something, but it was about being frozen. I only agreed to do the ceremony and nothing afterward; I congratulated both of you after the ceremony and then told you I was off to the County Clerk’s office to submit the license, since it was still open. Once in their system, you can get your marriage certificate. And in Cook County, you can get it from any currency exchange in the county. I wanted to make sure you could get your certificate ASAP. Also, there was no place to fill out the license at the location; it would have been blown into the river. I called your phone from the Clerk’s office; your husband answered. I told him your license was in the system and you get your certificate at any time. I had an engagement that evening; because of the delay I missed the train I planned to take and had to take a later one, coming late to where I was supposed to be. Again I regret your lack of satisfaction; I also regret not having cancelled this ceremony and requiring it be moved indoors. -
