fairytale garden wedding
I'm a wedding planner & stylist & had the pleasure of working at Benham's Grove with one of my couples this past September. The landscaping at Benham's Grove is one of the best in the area! The staff does an impeccable job maintaining it's beauty year round. If you're looking to have a garden themed wedding/event or event so bold as to have a whimsical aesthetic, Benham's is the place for you!I'm a wedding planner & stylist & had the pleasure of working at Benham's Grove with one of my couples this past September. Benham's Grove in Centerville Ohio was the perfect location for our outdoor wedding. Randy and staff were very responsive and helpful during the entire process. Everything went very smoothly from start to finish. Appreciated their expertise and advice as well. Randy was available during the rehearsal the day prior and was most helpful getting thing arranged just perfectly. They were very accommodating to our baker who was driving from Cincinnati and had to bring the cake late morning when the office was still closed. Everyone had a great time and we even had a guest say she felt like she was walking into a Fairytail! What a compliment to Benham's and this incredible facility.Benham's Grove in Centerville Ohio was the perfect location for our outdoor wedding. What an amazing location for my wedding. The staff were always available to answer questions and were flexible with seating/table requests. They assisted with some of the set up and tear down which reduced stress for the wedding party. I would absolutely recommend having your wedding (or any event) here. What an amazing location for my wedding. We had our wedding reception at Benham's Grove on June 18, 2011 and could not have been more pleased with the grounds and staff. Everything on the grounds was beautiful! The photographer loved the area for pictures and we received many compliments from the guests about how wonderful the venue is. The brick patio for the tent was amazing! It looked spectacular and we had no issues with the ground being wet or muddy even though it sprinkled some later in the evening. Our event coordinator, Margo, was phenomenal as well! She helped wherever she was needed during set up and clean up without complaint. Additionally, she helped many of our guests safely get home by calling numerous cabs at the end of the night. She was incredibly patient and helpful throughout the entire event! I got married at Benham's on May 26th. The night before there was a horrible storm and it really hit Benham's hard. The main house sustained quite a bit of damage as well as the grounds. The staff and crew worked very hard to have it ready for us in the morning. Since the bridal suite was damaged they offered me the cottage instead. Although there was a lot of damage the grounds were still beautiful.
Benham's and their staff have been nothing but nice to my husband and I. We originally booked with them for October 8th, 2011 but had to downsize our wedding. They made room for us in the very tight graduation season and gave us a wonderful price. It should also be noted that they have added a beautiful brick patio to the tent area which was just a grassy patch. I think that pretty much seals Benham's as one of the prettiest places to get married.
Many thanks to the staff for making my day much easier than it could have been. I didn't even think to worry about the grounds after the storm and you guys did that for me.I got married at Benham's on May 26th. Amazing! Everything went perfect and the staff was there to help me with anything I needed before and during the wedding! The only reason they didn't get 5 stars for value is because if you want the tent, it is $1000 in addition to the rental for the grounds, but it was well worth it! Everyone was so helpful! The staff working gave my groom some food and helped calm his nerves, helped tell my dad and I when to start walking and stayed available through out the night. It was perfect.Amazing! We used Benham's Grove because it was recommended to us by a friend. When you walk onto the property you cannot help but note how beautiful it is. The people there were very helpful and always responsive to any questions I had. Benham's Grove was a beautiful place to have my wedding. They do an excellent job of maintaining the grounds. Even though the weather wasn't perfect the entire day (it rained during the ceremony), it still turned out to be a great wedding. The staff was helpful through the planning process and pretty quick to respond to emails or any requests that I had. The only caveat is that you can really only decorate and set up the day of the event, but if you have friends/family that can help or a wedding planner, it is no big deal. I left for my honeymoon very early the next morning and some things got left behind, including the top of my wedding cake. They were kind enough to put everything away for me until I could coordinate picking it up.Benham's Grove was a beautiful place to have my wedding. Overall, my experience with Benham's was excellent. The site looked beautiful and leading up to the wedding the staff was very helpful in answering all of our questions and providing suggestions for us.
I did have one issue which actually my bridesmaids dealt with more than I did...the woman who was the coordinator for Benham's the day of my wedding acted a little strange. We had our gifts locked in the cabin, which is what Benham's generally does. At the end of the night, my bridesmaid and her fiance were getting the gifts from the cabin and loading them into their car for me when the coordinator told them some of the gifts in the cabin were not mine. This was completely not true. Whose else's would they be? They were locked up with my gifts all night and had cards with my and my husband's names on them! She also tried to tell them that some of the decorations that they were taking down belonged to Benham's. They didn't. They were silk flowers that belonged to my mother. Luckily, my friends had the sense to ignore this sadly confused individual and got my gifts and my mother's silk flowers back to me. In addition, I was told by all my bridesmaids that partway through my reception the same coordinator rushed my friends to get all our stuff out of the bride suite, so they had to move all our stuff out (my clothes, make-up, dress bag, etc.) during my reception and missed part of my reception and worried they left stuff in there in the rush. Everyone felt very rushed by this woman at the end of the night as well when cleaning up and taking everything down, even though we had previously gotten our time extended for clean-up time and got out of there before the time required.
Other than that coordinator, everything was beautiful and I really liked that I could hire my own caterer and bring my own alcohol. I did hire outside coordinators and would recommend doing so.Overall, my experience with Benham's was excellent. Thank you for your review of your recent wedding and reception at Benham's Grove. The staff here works hard to serve clients and their guests so that they have the best experience possible. While almost all of the evaluations we receive from customers are favorable, I take it quite seriously when one points out any issue or problem that may have occurred.
After reviewing your statements and speaking with the event host on duty that evening there seems to be conflicting recollections regarding what was said. In essence, it is the event host's responsibility to remind clients and their designated contacts or vendors to remove everything that they have brought for the event. I don't believe any of the BG event hosts would jeopardize their job or reputation or chance facing criminal charges by retaining clients' gifts or decorations. However, it is not unusual for an event host to clarify if decorations belong to the cilent or may have been borrowed from Benham's Grove. (We are happy to lend out vases, silk flowers, a linen, etc. if needed.) In addition, it is the host's duty to keep all events "on schedule." They are aware of the client's contracted hours and can determine by the amount of decorations, etc. just how long it may take for the party to clean up and vacate the premises. It is suprising that your event host would have bridesmaids leave halfway through a reception, and moreso, risk that they wouldn't be missed! We understand that many times people just don't want the party to end and the host is viewed as the "bad guy" when they attempt to "get things moving along."
While I am not dismissing the seriousness of your charges, I have found that, in my experience, issues such as these are a result of a misunderstanding. Sometimes what is said is not what is heard. However, I apologize for any distress you or your guests may have experienced during your event. Please know that I will continue to monitor the performance of all the event hosts so that we maintain the high quality of service that has always been associated with Benham's Grove. Sincerely, Sally Blommel

The grounds were beautiful. We got married mid-august, so it was quite warm. The only negative things were they didn't spray for mosquitos or other bugs, because we kept getting bitten by them. And the benches were dirty, so it hindered our ability to take some cute pictures. But everything else was great, and our guests really loved the location. The grounds were beautiful. Throughout the planning process, the ladies at Benham's Grove were very helpful and accommodating. This statement my be contradicting my reviews only because the planner that assisted me the day of was, well to be frank, a pain in my rear. Of course I'm going to be most concerned with my feeling on the day of my wedding than anything else. This is how I'm going to remember my venues, not if Sue returned my phone calls promptly. The day of planner was extremely unprofessional, causing panic when it was unnecessary and was constantly in the way. If you choose Benham's it will definitely be a beautiful place but make sure your planner for the day is Sally. She is the manager and wonderful.Throughout the planning process, the ladies at Benham's Grove were very helpful and accommodating. After reading this review from 2009, I pulled the client's file. The Benham's Grove event host on duty reported that there was some confusion regarding the client's linens but "it worked itself out." Other than that, the event host reported there were no problems that she could recall. The client's evaluation, on the other hand, mentioned that the event planner "came to the bride when issues arose which was not a good idea on the biggest day of her life." I attempted to reach the client for further details surroundding the alleged issues but was unsuccessful. As administrator of Benham's Grove, if I receive an unfavorable evaluation, I make it a priority to resolve the problem(s) and if necessary, speak with the client and/or the staff member to understand the occurance and keep it from happening again.
I appreciate the opportunity to respond to this review.

This venue was beautiful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the location and facilities. The staff was very helpful and willing to meet prior to the day, and was also responsive the morning of the event in helping us rearrange our setup plans because of weather. I found all of the three staff members that I met to be friendly and knowledgeable. They provided blueprints of the grounds that made planning much easier. I think our only concerns were that because of the shift for weather we ended up using different facilities (tent and plaza) instead of house and barn, so ended up paying for everything but only using two things. That might be par for the course with venues like this though. Beautiful location thought. Everyone had a great time. The guys enjoyed getting ready in the carriage house, and the bridal suite was lovely. The guests all appreciated having access to plenty of bathroom facilities, too, and though we were disappointed not to use the house, barn and patio, the tent was set up very nicely. Just keep in mind that the venue provides chairs and tables, but you do all the rest of the set up. Oh, and time. The venue only rents for six-hour blocks. We would have enjoyed more time there, but they were accommodating in letting us set up outside (not inside) a bit (two hours) earlier, so that did help. Kitchen facility worked well for the caterer, too. The staff on hand that night introduced himself to folks as "event coordinator," however, and that generated some confusion, as he was really just there to monitor the venue, not to provide further help, so be clear about your expectations and their services. I saw the venue rep when I arrived, and at cleanup time, but not much in between. This venue was beautiful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the location and facilities. Over all I loved Benham's Grove, the location is beautiful and the women who work there are fabulous. BUT I had some big issues the day of with them. The man who was my 'planner' for the day of wasn't great. I'd never met him, he never introduced himself the day of, he wasn't very helpful, and he was rude to my bridesmaids and guests. The other HUGE issue I had and want to warn people about is the grass there... if you are having your reception there by June and July the grass is gone under the tent and its all dirt. They promised me it wouldn't be a big deal the day of and it was almost a disaster. It rained before my ceremony and the dirt that was under the tent AND around it turned to mud. They told me they were going to put stuff down the week before so it wouldn't cause a problem - but they did not. So 30 minutes before the ceremony my family ran out to Home depot to buy bags of mulch to put all around it to soak up the mud. Benham's grove never offered to do that or even really help. They told me they were going to get a patio down so they wouldn't have that problem. They never did. Until they do, I wouldn't book with them.
Now with that complaining out - its still a very pretty place. They keep the grounds pretty, the landscape is pretty, and the house is awesome. My guests loved it and didn't know all the hassle that we had. The gazebo makes a gorgeous setting for a ceremony too!Over all I loved Benham's Grove, the location is beautiful and the women who work there are fabulous. After reading this review, I recall the rather unusual circumstances of this event. However, I had no indication from this client of her distress and am completely dumbfounded as to her claims regarding the event host. Benham's Grove is committed to providing the best service possible to clients and guests. The event host mentioned in this review has been with Benham's Grove for over 10 years and receives the highest marks for being knowledgeable, helpful, professional and courteous. I have yet to receive anything but positive responses regarding his service to our clients. The "HUGE" issue regarding the area designated for tents was reviewed with this client prior to her booking her wedding and reception. Since Benham's Grove openend in 1992, we have been conducting outdoor weddings and receptions, and it has been standard that we remind potential clients that as an indoors/outdoors venue we are at the mercy of the weather. In this case, we did everything we could to ensure that the reception area was kept as dry as possible. We allowed the tent to be put up days in advance and purchased bales of straw for the ground. The client refused to allow us to put down any straw or sand. Instead, they arrived early and were laying mulch under the tent when the event host arrived. The mulch did little to help due to the heavy rains that day. (Benham's Grove staff had to remove much of the mulch for the next day's event as it smelled.) We went out of our way to assist this client and even permitted them to extend their reception for a few extra hours at no additional expense. A brick plaza was completed as planned in March of 2011. It is the site where clients renting the Complex may place vendor tents.
I appreciate the opportunity to respond to this review.
