May is Fantastic
May is wonderful! She came to my hotel room to do my hair and makeup for my wedding. She was on time and spent two solid hours making me beautiful! I brought my own lashes and hairpiece and she knew just what to do. My hair even stayed in place in the wind at out beach wedding. If you get a chance to hire her, do it! You will be beautiful for your big day 🥰 -

May and her team were so amazing. As a first time bride I was not sure what to expect, but they blew every expectation out of the water nevertheless! They did in total 5 women, including myself- both hair and makeup. We spent the entire morning talking story and laughing; they could not have made my wedding day more perfect. I couldn’t recommend May enough!
May went above and beyond all of my expectations! Not only is she absolutely amazing at what she does, but she is so kind and personable. She made what could be a stressful time a fun and enjoyable experience. I never thought I could look and feel so beautiful! Amazing with all skin types and textured hair!!
May is absolutely amazing! She was hired to do my makeup and hair for a vow renewal. She was professional, on time, kind, sweet, very easy to talk to, and most importantly- she made me feel like the most beautiful bride in the world! I had been out at a Luau the night before, so when she arrived, I was unprepared, my hair could use a lot of help and I was nervous about makeup. She made me feel human. She handled everything with such grace. My textured hair was styled perfectly, and my makeup was absolutely stunning. I could not be more grateful for her, she’s amazing!! -

Destination weddings can be stressful!
May is amazing! Trying to plan a destination wedding and knowing you aren’t going to get a trial application can be extremely stressful. May was so easy to work with and the end results were beyond wonderful. She completely understood the direction and was kind and accommodating to all of the ladies, including a couple younger ladies as well as the Mother of the Bride. I randomly found her on The Knot and chose her based on the reviews here as well as her awards and would absolutely tell you - choosing May and her team will put you at ease. You’ve read many other reviews of what a great job May did for everyone. I want to speak to how patient and kind May was. And flexible. First it was only make up and hair for my mother and me as the bride. Then we added my sister in law. And then my girlfriend came to help me get dressed and wanted to get her hair done. Throughout all the add ona and changes requested, May was so patient and took it all in stride.
And of course she did a beautiful job. Everyone thought so too, not just me.

Finding a makeup artist for our wedding was one of the things we were the most worried about. In the past, my wife and I have experienced makeup artists that were not familiar with doing makeup well on Asian faces. We didn't want that, especially for our wedding.
Our prayers were answered when we found May. This review is a bit long because it isn't fair to only describe her as amazing, because she is so much more!
First off, May is so incredibly talented as a makeup artist. She has artistic vision and works to emphasize your features versus a "copy & paste" makeup style. Secondly, she is also very organized and professional from communicating before the wedding, to the makeup trial, to the day of the wedding making it easy to discuss and confirm with her.
To start off, we are 2 brides, so that is double the makeup! My wife and I typically don't wear a lot of makeup so it was difficult for us to voice what we wanted and know what would look good on us. We decided to include a makeup trial which I HIGHLY recommend all brides do.
My wife showed May some photos of the makeup look and up-do hairstyles she liked. May was so talented and gave my wife exactly the look she asked for. However, this is why the makeup trial is important because, my wife ended up realizing that she actually want a more natural look because it would make her feel more comfortable and that she actually would prefer her hair down. May was so understanding and had suggestions on how she can create that as she knew exactly what my wife wanted! With May's expertise, my wife felt so comfortable and beautiful with her hair and makeup on our wedding day.
As for me, I shared a few images with May and described to her the feel I wanted to evoke with my hair and makeup. I mainly spoke about the facial features that I wished to emphasize and those I wished to minimize and trusted May to create the final vision. She did just that! May gave me the fresh faced look and styled my hair to matched the vision I had but didn't know how to voice entirely.
May also went the extra mile for us to make our wedding perfect. On the day of our wedding, I suddenly asked if she could support us on-site at the wedding ceremony and for photos afterwards. This was because we did a small photo shoot on the day of our makeup trial, at the wedding location, the wind was insane and our hair was in our faces for all the photos. The weather also looked to be about the same on our wedding day, so for our wedding, we didn't want the same thing to happen, and I presented May with this last minute request.
When I tell you she is kind and caring, I can't emphasize that enough. She told me that she had something already scheduled but she understood why and that she will try. She shifted her personal schedule around asking for her friend to help to take care of her personal errands, to be able to accompanying us to the wedding ceremony and photoshoot afterwards. I almost felt undeserving because this was essentially a stranger we met that week, but she has such a big and kind heart and was so caring that she was willing to go above and beyond to make us look and feel good on our wedding day. During the ceremony she was always watching to make sure both my wife and I looked our best.
I really can't express or thank her enough for her talent, time, and kindness. She IS the best makeup artist in Hawaii! -

Absolutely AMAZING!!
It was a privilege having May work as my makeup artist for my wedding. I usually do not wear makeup and was never truly satisfied with the makeup I had done on me for my sisters weddings until now. May will assist if you are unsure of what you like which I appreciated a lot as it turned out so well in my photoshoot. Tanned Asian or not, May knows what she is doing. I have had no issues contacting her through email. It was also a blast laughing and goofing off with her along with my bridesmaids. Highly recommend! -

May communicated very well with me to make sure that she gave me the “dream look” that I wanted for my wedding. She has such a good eye for makeup and hair, and what will look good. I told her to use her best professional judgement with the makeup so that it would make my features “pop” and cover all my “flaws,” all while matching my skin tone and not being too bold. She somehow made me look even better than I could have ever imagined, and she is also the sweetest person, she is very pleasant to work with, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone to do their hair and makeup! -

She was so quick to respond to my message and was very easy to schedule with. Mayy was uhhmazing!
She is very organized, pleasure to work with, sweet and kind, and most importantly, *Drum Rolls/*, she helped me look my best!
I was very horrified and worried because a pimple came outta nowhere on my wedding day. But, she somehow helped me hid it.
The majority of my bridesmaids and MOH(Maid-of-Honor) had their makeup done by Mayy! The hairstyles were done by her kind mother. Mayy did my hair and makeup. There was a problem with the back hair volume for the bridesmaids, but that was an easy fix. Just gotta let them know. They were very sweet to help my MIL(Mother-in-law) to add-on some fake lashes last minute.
I was impressed by how long the makeup lasted throughout the night (+8hrs). I did not book a touch-up session, so she gave me a small kit to do my own touch-ups!

Amazing bridal hair and makeup!
May is aMAYzing! We were blown away by her talent and amazing personality and professionalism. I hired her for my bridal makeup, my mother, my maid of honor, and an attendant! Everyone loved their hair and makeup! She uses high end products and my hair and makeup lasted an outdoor ceremony and reception. So talented!
May showed up on-site early and ready to go. She was exactly on time in finishing hair and makeup for me and my bridesmaids, like to the minute! My sister-in-law had had such a bad experience with a different makeup artist and it threw her whole day off, so this was so important to me! She was so gentle that my bridesmaids were joking that they could have fallen asleep, it was such a calm and relaxing experience and we looked amazing! All my girls were so happy with their looks and I was too. Really, one of, if not THE best decisions I made to hire May! 10/10! -

May was an absolute gem to work with! I was flying to Oahu from New York and had to do the trial two days before the ceremony. May was flexible with my schedule and came to my hotel for the hair and makeup. I had sent her some hair and makeup ideas via email beforehand, but I wasn’t sure if she could do the hairstyle I wanted because I thought my hair would be too short, but she made it happen!! The trial was so important because i decided that I wanted more natural falsies after a whole day of walking around with more dramatic falsies. This small change actually required May to tone down on the makeup and change the color palette, but the result was even better than during the trial! My mom asked if I could bring May to New York for my reception haha! The makeup was great but I was extremely obsessed with the hairdo she did for me. It looked even better than the inspiration picture I sent her! She had great work ethics - arriving early, very responsive, practiced safe hygiene by wearing mask, shield, and gloves, and provided a small makeup kit for any needed touch ups. I also enjoyed chatting with her because she was very sweet. The bonus is that she has very gentle hands! -

May was an absolute dream! She was incredibly flexible given changing schedules for both my trial as well as my wedding day, given my groom wanted to add a little makeup to the schedule and we needed to do touch ups at the venue (which was ~30 min away) after my maid of honor and mother were done. She also took my feedback after the trial to heart and made adjustments the morning of my wedding that were absolutely PERFECT. I looked better than I could have imagined and I know my pictures will be stunning.
At one point I bawled my eyes out during the reception but my makeup stayed intact and I didn't need to touch anything up! She also left me a small touch up kit for my lipgloss, which I was so glad I could reapply throughout the evening so my look stayed fresh! -

Best you could ever ask for!!
May is the whole package! She's such a lovely soul and an amazing hair stylist and make up artist. I danced through my whole wedding night and sweated buckets; my make up and hair did not move at all. Not even a smudge or stray hair. You could not ask for better service and responsiveness! She has an eye for color and what would look good on you and had us send her photos well in advance of the day. I would absolutely recommend her. We all wanted a natural beauty look with emphasis on the eyes. The bride had a rosette in the back of her hair, and the bridesmaid asked for the crisscross braids. May is one of the sweetest person ever to work with! I found her through my wedding coordinator, and I can't thank them both enough in helping me make the wedding of my dreams come true. I gravitate more towards a natural look, but of course, wanted it a little "glam". I showed only two photos of my hair and makeup and May got the look down to a T! It was truly exceptional and GORGEOUS! The best part is the makeup doesn't feel heavy at all, and it lasted throughout the night. Her friendly and charming personality made me super comfortable during my trial run that it made it seem like I was talking to a bestie for two hours! As for the day of, she was super professional and worked really well with coordinating her time management with my bridal team. The sweetest and most professional MUA! Loved her work!
May was great in every way. She communicated with me as needed when I needed to book her for a last minute elopement. She arrived early, was very cautious with covid, keeping her mask and face shield on the entire time. Her pricing is fair. Don’t forget to tip, she deserves it! She is the sweetest person, very kind. As a makeup artist, I was so happy with her work! My hair and makeup came out exactly as I asked. And even better! I was unsure about lip color, but she mixed something that would work well for me based on my complexion and I loved it! I felt beautiful and it photographed so well. I was so impressed with how fast she worked too but not overly rushing and still taking time to do great work and take some great pics of me after. What was impressive was that she managed to get through all of us in less than 6 hours (make up and hair for 9 people). She understood everyone's skin/hair/style concerns, catered to their preferences while creating a unified look and feel for my bridal party. She helped create an understated yet elegant look for the moms & grandmother (as they had all requested "not super made up" looks). She has great attention to detail, patience and overall a great demeanor even though she had to work with a gaggle of girls all day :) The make-up stayed on the entire evening and we all look great in photos! Also, she's just the sweetest and an absolute pleasure to work with. -

Amazing and talented artist!!
I am so glad that I chose May to be my make up artist and hairstylist for my wedding! She has been so flexible and responsive throughout the entire time. She was able to arrive as early as 5am and got mine and my 3 bridesmaids hair/make up done by 10am!
We all looked so beautiful and everything turned out exactly how we expected it to be. May was so polite and professional as well. I highly recommend her! :) -

Unbeatable experience
May was excellent to work with from being to end. She was very responsive to email and texts. She took my inspiration photos and created such a beautiful bridal look. May is wonderful!! I rarely dress up and never wear makeup, so the thought of finding someone for my wedding day was daunting. She put me at ease. We did a trial just to make sure I would be comfortable with everything when my wedding day came. I gave her inspiration for my hair style, but for makeup all I could tell her is “I don’t ever wear make-up so please make sure I still look like ‘me’ on my big day” Everyone was so impressed. She was able to glam me up, picture perfect, all while making me feel so comfortable. Exactly what I asked for. May always arrived on time, in fact early, and responds quickly. She was also very professional, especially during this difficult time of the pandemic. She always wore a mask, face shield, and gloves, making me feel safe. Through email, I already felt like she was the sweetest, most kind person, and couldn’t wait to meet her. I would highly recommend May!! -

Natural makeup and beautiful hair
At first I was hesitant to reach out to May because she doesn’t list her prices online and has the most 5 star reviews, so naturally I assumed she would charge a ridiculous price. In fact, May’s pricing is reasonable and I loved the fact that she does airbrush. May was extremely professional and organized and always responded to my emails within an hour or so; unlike many vendors who you don’t get a response from for days! May and her mom showed up early on the day of to get five of us ladies all dolled up. Her makeup approach is natural yet beautiful. May’s hair and makeup held up for the entire humid day even though it was drizzling on us during the ceremony. If someone didn’t like the way she did something, May was happy to adjust and accommodate us to make sure we all loved our hair and makeup. The only downfall was that May wanted cash only so that was a hassle, but other than that I highly recommend Beauty by May! -

Beauty by May is the best in the business! I couldn't be happier that I chose her to do my makeup for my beach wedding ceremony. She knew how to work with her beauty tools and is very open to suggestions. She is also very professional and quick to respond. I was already impressed that she came in 45 minutes early to the location where we got ready and she started setting up way ahead of time. I felt so relieved! She's also very sweet and polite. Amazing work and experience!
May did hair and makeup for both my wife and I. I was unsure prior to hiring her how my hair would come out being that it is very short but she did AN AMAZING job!!
