    Magical!!!

My son's wedding was held at the Avent Orangery on site at Chateau Avalon and it was absolutely magical - helpful, accommodating staff, aesthetically gorgeous, breathtaking suites. I would highly recommend holding your special events at this location!

    Wonderful Venue

We got married here in June '22 and it was the perfect venue for our dream wedding. Although the venue was new at the time, they worked through a variety of small "kinks" to help us create a magical day! Would recommend this space to anyone desiring a unique venue that enjoys the combination of outdoors and elegance!

The reason I booked this hotel was because of Jayme. She was very accommodating and attentive from beginning to end. I would recommend this venue for small weddings. Great patio and scenery.

    Horrible experience, retaliatory staff.

This venue is gorgeous, but the managing staff at both Avent & its sister hotel Chateau Avalon were so bad that I truthfully wouldn't choose this venue again. This story is long but worth the read.

We learned a few months before our wedding that they’d booked out our wedding suite to others. Our coordinator called the hotel & spoke to operations manager Sara Pier, who recognized that they had booked out our room, & said their plan was to contact the people they'd double-booked a week prior & tell them that there was a maintenance issue & they had to be moved to another room. Our coordinator confirmed this a month before the wedding. It struck me as shady- why not just tell the other guests that you accidentally booked out someone's wedding suite?- but if we were gonna get the room we booked, okay I guess.

So we were obviously upset when we showed up Friday & learned that other people were already in the room. The general manager Kristy Davis clearly caught wind that we were not happy & was immediately up in arms when she came to talk to us. She was visibly annoyed that I was asking for an explanation of how this happened. Turns out it wasn't even just one reservation booked over ours- there were multiple- and Kristy said she personally was unwilling to move even the guests who hadn't checked in yet to other rooms.

Later talking to Sara, she said that the issue was 100% the fault of Shelby Beaumont, Avent's venue director, who she accused of booking out rooms & not communicating that to the hotel. Sara also said they were not apologizing to us bc they were being "disrespected" (they were not). (Btw this is the same Sara my coordinator had been talking to before the wedding.)

This is about the end of what I was aware of on the wedding day, so everything below I learned after the fact, but it's all been verified by multiple people.

Apparently right after the ceremony, Sara pulled my coordinator & MoH aside and told them that shortly before the ceremony, "a bride and her mom" had broken into the bridal suite and screamed at the teenage guests staying there. She said the teenager's mom wanted to press charges & that she (Sara) was about to call the cops to have me arrested. During my wedding.

Obviously, my mom & I did *not* break into the bridal suite and/or yell at any teenagers. When I learned about this the next day, my response was "let's pull the tapes!" But conveniently they don't have cameras in that hallway.

Another thing I learned after the wedding is that Sara was sh*t talking me so openly that my friends heard her. My favorite was, "Crazy b*tch, she needs to be medicated." Lol.

Now I have to talk about Shelby Beaumont, the venue director. She seemed very nice at our 30-day out meeting. But as soon as Kristy told us on Friday that we could not have the wedding suite & that we needed to talk to Shelby about it, she ignored every single call she got from us for 2 days. I don't think she was even at the wedding. I don't know who finally managed to talk to her, but apparently she claimed she emailed me a month ago that our wedding suite wasn’t available. (I did not get an email.)

After all this happened, we were reading reviews online & learned that they've done this exact thing to others. Please peruse other reviews (especially on Google) and Avent's responses to see all the insane similarities — accusations of abuse from the patron, threats to call the cops, even saying the worst people were "the bride and her mom."

Sara swore that Chateau Avalon is a totally separate business from Avent, but the threats & lies appear to be a coordinated effort. It was the hotel attacking/threatening us, but Avent's Google account attacking/threatening the other reviewers.

Despite what appears to be a deliberate attempt to ruin our wedding, they did not succeed and it was a beautiful day. But it is sad that we spent the first few days after our wedding thinking about the astonishing lengths they were willing to go to ruin our wedding, apparently in retaliation of our (valid, imo) complaints.

Don’t put yourself through booking this place

Don’t get married here. The venue looks great but all the contracts you sign, all the promises you are told are lies.

I booked this space and got married in October it’s was the only part of my wedding that was an absolute nightmare. The owner is horrible to customers and employees. We had 5 different event coordinators over the span of a year, we signed an agreement to reserve the hotel as part of our wedding and the owner released our rooms to the public week of our wedding and when we arrived our bridal suite and all our guests room (out of town guests) reservations were erased and no vacant rooms. We were told so many things when signing the first contract that were not true and the owner threatened us on our wedding day that if we used the back patio like we were told we could he would call the cops.

I am still considering taking legal action against this hotel and event space due to the way I was treated and the breach of multiple contracts.

The drama of all this really overshadowed our wedding and I believe that was his intention after meeting him and realizing what kind of person I was dealing with.

Save your money, save yourself from stress and agony on the most special day of your life.

    Avent Orangery's reply:

We do not know where to begin in response to your review. Our owner and entire staff put up with more abuse from your group than any guests that have been to the hotel in 19 years. Your review is full of half-truths and just plain lies and slander. The only reason the owner was ever on property the night before your wedding was to prevent staff from calling the police.

Your group, led by the bride and mother of the bride were completely out of hand. The 18-year-old front desk staff girl called the owner crying because of your abusive language. The owner and the GM went to the closed-circuit video from their homes in time to see the mother of the bride push her way into a restricted area behind the front desk, push our staff member, and yank our staff’s personal cell phone out of her hands while she was talking to our GM on it. We have video of all of this.

Our owner left his home immediately telling staff not to call the police in hopes of trying to calm the situation. When he arrived, nothing he could do would satisfy your unreasonable and unwarranted demands. At no point did he ever “scream” as you put it and the video will show the same. He was very stern and said that we are considering pressing charges if you do not calm down. The hotel went out of its way to try and appease your party. We even moved paying guests to other rooms just to satisfy your group. The groom said all was OK and the owner went home.

The next day the groom approached our owner directly during set up for the wedding and apologized for the actions of the wedding party the night before. He agreed it was completely uncalled for. The owner thanked him and wished him the best for his wedding day, and we thought that would be the last of this issue…until now.

As to your “pre-agreed contractually obligated rooms” breach…Your party agreed to a hotel buy out which is exactly what it sounds like: You purchase all 60 rooms in the hotel and in return we do not sell them to anyone else. A few months out from the event, you informed the hotel that you were only using 38 rooms but wanted all the rest to remain vacant; yet you wanted your money back for the rooms that you were vacating. You literally asked the owner to give you money for the remaining 22 rooms but not rent them to anyone else. It made no sense. Yet you continued to press on as if you still had a hotel buyout. Anyone reading this would interpret a “hotel buyout” as just that: buying out the entire hotel. When you asked for refunds (and received the refunds) on the unoccupied rooms, the hotel buyout then was voided. This was documented in the addendum found at the bottom of your contract.

We did all we could to accommodate your group and lost thousands of dollars hosting your event. One staff member that night quit because of your treatment. The Chateau Avalon and the Avent Orangery was created as a place to bring people joy and memories. Hopefully those that read your review will get to know us and find out who was really the difficult one in this situation.
