Dream come true!

I had a FANTASTIC experience purchasing my dress here. I had the pleasure of working directly with Alex, the owner, & she was phenomenal! Alex stayed under my desired budget with every dress and matched my veil perfectly. I also purchased all of my accessories here and looked EXACTLY how I envisioned on my special day. Beautiful shop with beautiful dresses, and beautiful people!

Lovely Experience!

Another wonderful experience for wedding dress shopping. Booking an appointment does cost $25 for your first time. It says there is a $75 cancelation when first booking the appointment but the follow up emails said, "$50 Cancellation Fee in the case of a no show or cancellation within 72 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time". The store has the main entry with the front desk in the middle , seating on both sides, then kind of splits with two sides. The right side has two rows of wedding dresses, with 1 dressing rooms on the back left, and in the very back a full 360 mirror. The right said had one row of wedding dresses on the left and more dressing rooms on the right. The dressing rooms are very large size, plenty of room to try and store dresses. I work with Ashlyn and Alaina who was shadowing Ashlyn. Prior to my appointment I looked on their website and favored a few dresses. So upon getting to my appointment they were able to start pulling them. The dresses I tried we all beautiful and gorgeous. She also ensured me that I had time to order which others places told me I was very close to running out of time. The dress I loved she told me I could add a liner and even pick different sleeve add ons. She said a lot of dresses have options to custom to your style. I didn't say yes to any dresses just because I am still browsing all of my options. But the experience was really great and would recommend. Ashlyn and Alaina were great to work with. Patient, kind, made me feel at ease, and super helpful.

Dream Dress

When looking for my wedding gown, I wanted something different and that I would be able to wear all night. My favorite designer happed to have dresses at Ava Clara, so I decided to give it a shot. Dominique helped me, and the very first dress I tried ended up being the one. Never even had to go anywhere else! Fell in love with Dominique, the other sweet staff, atmosphere of the shop, and obviously the dress! They were so sweet every time I went in and made the whole process so special.

best dress shop! thank you dominique!

we were super lucky to work with dominique every single visit to ava clara. she was lovely and i really appreciated her calm but helpful, professional demeanor. we never felt pressured or rushed. she made me feel comfortable and picked up on my sense of style really quickly. she was extremely patient with my multiple try ons of different combinations of dresses and veils and hair pieces etc, and was very responsive to our questions or requests for additional info such as options for customization. i went to about 5? dress shops while looking for my dress and not only was ava clara the first shop i went to, i returned at the end for one of those dresses and they were my favorite to work with by far!

I had the best experience at Ava Clara!

I had the best day yesterday at Ava Clara! It was my first-ever wedding dress shopping experience, and Taylre was friendly and knowledgeable from the start. My family and I all loved the atmosphere and seating in the store, and I also thought the large dressing rooms were so amazing and special.
I loved the first dress I tried on, and Taylre followed it up with win after win. She was very responsive to my preferences and found dresses that suited my style so perfectly. I honestly could have been happy in just about any of the dresses I tried on. Even though I ended up buying a dress from another store, I loved my experience at Ava Clara and couldn't recommend them highly enough.

So wonderful

I bought my dress about a year ago with my mom and two sisters. They were quite a handful but Taylor was absolutely amazing and so helpful. I told her what I had tried on before and what I envisioned in my dress and she immediately picked out 4-6 dresses for me to try on. The dress I ended up buying had just come in and it was so dreamy. I knew I loved it but everyone gave me so many compliments on the day of the wedding. The experience at Ava Clara was absolutely wonderful even with covid restrictions leading up to the wedding

Laid Back but Classy!

I came to Ava Clara as my last stop on a two day wedding dress search with my mom and I am so glad I stopped there. I originally worked with Leigh and she really listened to what I was saying and helped me figure out the type of dress I really wanted. The shop is really cute and the staff were super friendly and not pushy at all. It was one of the best experiences I could hope for!

Felt like a fairytale!

For me, Ava Clara Bridal was my one stop shop! I honestly did not expect to find my dress so quickly on my very first appointment but I knew I wanted to have the magical, fairytale experience the first time I went trying on wedding dresses. It was exactly what I had hoped for, all of my bridesmaids were there along with me as well as my mother and grandmother. I tried on the selection of dresses they had waiting for me and perched up on a pedestal in front of their beautiful mirrors while my girls cheered me along. It was the feeling I had dreamt of ever since I was a little girl. To be honest, I saw my dress peeking out from the rack as soon as I walked in and after 5 other dresses, I asked to try on the one that caught my eye. Once they added the veil, I couldn’t contain myself and tears of joy started streaming down my face. They even allowed us to pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate the exciting occasion! The staff at Ava Clara was so helpful and made me feel comfortable as soon as I walked through the doors. Alterations were done in-house and they steamed everything prior to my final pick-up. Everything was as it should be when picking out a wedding dress and Ava Clara made it so easy.

Wonderful Wedding Dress Shopping Experience

I can’t praise the staff of Ava Clara Couture Bridal enough. As a plus-sized bride, the thought of wedding dress shopping brought anxiety, nerves, and I was preparing for a disappointing experience. My experience at Ava Clara was absolutely AMAZING. Melinda was an attentive and knowledgeable stylist. I showed her gowns I had saved on Pinterest and she pulled nine incredible dresses well within my budget. Each one was flattering and unique. I can’t believe I had so many awesome choices. I said yes to the most perfect dress and had a ton of fun with my family and bridesmaids along the way. It was the best day! Melissa is an experienced seamstress to alter your dress to absolute perfection. My dress was everything I could have ever wanted and I’m so thankful for my Ava Clara experience!

My Dream Dress!

Ava Clara was so good to us! I was in a time pinch a few days before the wedding and they were kind enough to open earlier than usual just so I could have my final dress fitting! Their alterations made my dream dress a reality and I can't thank them enough!

Amazing experience!

Because I was planning on having a small wedding ceremony, I had just assumed a gown would not be a part of my wedding day. I was cycling through mail-order gowns from sites like Morning Lavender and lulus. These options were all pretty and were fine dresses, but none felt truly special.

In October this year, a relative sent me a link to a contest, “Tulle for Teachers” in which Ava Clara Couture Bridal, in Virginia Beach, generously gifts brand new wedding gowns to teacher-brides. I was selected for the event and emailed the shop with a few questions beforehand- the shop was prompt in their reply and super helpful. When the day of the event arrived, I was able to try on as many dresses as I wished within my designated time slot. The ladies at Ava Clara were SO genuinely kind and helpful and supportive as I tried on gown after gown (all of which made me feel like a total princess!).

My wedding day was exactly what I had hoped for and more beautiful than I could have imagined, thanks to this cherished and generous gift from Ava Clara!

These wonderful people helped me get a beautiful dress for absolutely free!! I can’t say enough how appreciative I am for their generosity!! Their Tulle for Teachers event was truly heartwarming, and I was pleasantly surprised at the wonderful service they provided even though I wasn’t spending any money there. Must visit

This was my second bridal salon and the most enjoyable! The salon is cute, clean, and has unique and affordable gowns. Jamie was super helpful! She picked out dresses based off of my style I explained to her, and led me to a dress better than one I dreamed of!
I would definitely recommend Ava Clara as your first choice. You will not be disappointed.

One appointment and I had a dress after months of looking!

I had been looking for a dress for quite some time, but I had no luck. After a quick search for custom shops, my fiance told me to go here. I set up an appt with Melinda told her some very basic ideas that I had in mind for the dress. That following Saturday shortly after I arrived she immediately went to work and after 9-12 dresses (even though the third one was the winner!) in the first appointment I found exactly what I wanted without any hassle. The next appointment I bought my dress and in April I'm excited to once again try it on and get to work on the rest of the ensemble! Thank you Ava Clara for making it a stress free process!

Amazing!!!

After having a terrible experience at a salon in Jersey, I knew I had to look at ones in the south. I needed a stylist that wanted to work with me and find the right dress. Stylist was great, seamstress was great and they were great for the out of state bride. They even opened around my schedule at times. I highly recommend this boutique even if you think we have more salons up north, because the southern care is what you need through your whole wedding processes.

Ava Clara Bridal made my dress shopping experience amazing! My first consultation was with Alex, the owner, who truly has a passion for what she does. I didn't realize she was the owner until I asked her how long she had been working there haha. She has such a knowledge and love for what she does and it shows. She choose the first gown that I tried on and it ended up being the dress that I chose. She ensures that you feel comfortable during the entire process and never pushes you to make a decision you aren't ready for. I didn't purchase the dress on my first visit. I visited a couple more bridal salons and tried on way too many dresses but kept going back to that first one. I even tried on the dress at a few other bridal salons but decided to go back to Ava Clara to purchase the dress based on the amazing experience they provided on my first visit. The rest of her employees are very nice and knowledgeable as well. I used their in house seamstress for my alterations - she was great and was able to do everything I wanted to my dress!

I have never felt more like a fairy tale princess than on my wedding day! Thank you for the wonderful experience!!

I had originally found THE dress in NC where I live with one of my bridesmaids. I wanted my parents there to see the dress so I made an apt at Ava Clara and brought my family with me. They knew which dress and which designer I had in mind instantly. No second guessing I had found the dress. I was an out of state bride and they worked with me and referred a seamstress who was perfect! They even recombed my veil that was my mom's. The whole experience was incredible and I got the obligatory "YES" picture!

Alex saved my wedding day! After finding out that I could not get my dress nor my bridesmaids dresses; I saw Ava Clara online and went into to discuss dresses. They not only recouped my two bridesmaids dresses, but they found a better dress for my Matron of Honor. A bride's nightmares are for something to happen to her dress and/or for the dress not to fit; well both happened to me. I was so anxious when I first walked into Ava Clara, but Melinda and Alex helped to relax and stayed open later until I found the perfect dress. Alex found the dress of my husband's dreams and made my day more special than I could have imagined.

Ava Clara Couture went above and beyond to make sure my wedding dress experience was exceptional. The first time I came in I told Alex my budget and what I was looking for and she found the perfect dress within those parameters. It was literally the first dress I tried on and I fell in love. I ended up losing some weight throughout the next few months and had to get a considerable amount of alterations. Alex and Melanie worked with me to help me keep everything within budget with the veil and the additional alterations. They were beyond accommodating and even made additional alterations to the dress at no extra charge just two days before the big day. The dress was perfect, and fit me great! I couldn't have been happier with my experience at Ava Clara and have already been telling everyone I know looking for dresses that that is the place to go!

Melinda and Ava Clara were so lovely to work with as I was finding my dress. I don't live in the area (I live in DC), but had a specific idea for what I wanted and Ava Clara was the only bridal shop that happened to have something close to that. I was initially skeptical because I did not want a ball gown style, but Melinda was patient through all of my questions and showed me how the dress could be altered to meet my desired look. Melinda was fantastic - I highly recommend seeing her as you look for your dress!

Being a bride and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints meant that I was looking for a modest wedding gown that had class, style, made me feel beautiful, and most importantly honored God and my husband to be on my wedding day. After visiting several other studios I was fearful I might not find such a gown and then I went to Ava Clara. Melinda was wonderful and took the time to understand my needs and desires and to help me find the perfect gown for me. This whole experience with shopping for a wedding dress was stressful UNTIL I got to Ava Clara! The owner is incredibly personable and wants to make sure everything is right for you and your experience. The bridal consultants themselves are very knowledgeable, treat you respectfully, show your joy, and will go to the limits to talk with designers to make your dream gown! I found my dream dress at Ava Clara, finally, after going to so many other stores. It was a very pretty salon with a big collection, enough to fit any budget as well. Melinda helped me that day and she was awesome. She listened to what I had in mind for the overall look and brought about 3 or 4 dresses. All were beautiful but finally found “the one” between those few. I should’ve just come here first!! My mother and mother-in-law came with me and they were super excited as well! Melinda treated us so well which made it a really fun experience! My dress came in a lot sooner than expected too which was fantastic! Definitely go to Ava Clara, they have a beautiful collection and great people! Thank you so much Melinda 

I went to David's Bridal first, just to test the waters of trying on dresses. I HATED my experience and felt somewhat defeated. I googled other dress shops and Ava Clara was on the list. I went to them right after David's and found the dress! From the first moment, it was a completely different experience. Everyone in there was so sweet and helpful! They had so many beautiful gowns, and they were affordable! Sometimes you get what you pay for, and the experience should be included in that!

I cannot thank Ava Clara enough for their selection of dresses. Melinda, my consultant, was even more amazing! She gave me pep talks when I was uncomfortable and found dresses I didn't even think I would like. She made finding my dress an unforgettable experience I couldn't thank her enough for her patience and understanding. The ladies at Ava Clara were lifesavers. My mother was in town for the holidays and we had a less than warm reception at the salon where we bought my dress when we were trying to shop for veils. My mother was only in town for a few days and we wanted to maximize our time together. Ava Clara was able to accommodate us and we found the perfect veil to fit my dress. We also found a killer reception dress while we were there. The staff at Ava Clara is friendly and warm and very easy to work with. The seamstress they recommend did FANTASTIC work on my ceremony dress that was way too big upon arrival. I would highly recommend a visit to Ava Clara.

I went to 3 other places before coming here, and I wish it was the first and only place I went to! I wanted a modest dress with sleeves which was a little tougher to find given the love for strapless, skin exposing dresses out there. My consultant Melinda instantly was able to find me exactly what I was looking for and was very calm and encouraging throughout the process without making me feel any kind of pressure or need to buy. She encouraged me to find a dress where I didn't want to change anything about it rather than finding a good dress but modifying it a lot. It was the best advice, and I knew I found "the one" when there wasn't anything I disliked about it! I went back a second time to show my mother, and she absolutely fell in love with my dress too! Melinda is an excellent consultant, and I encourage anyone looking to meet her at least once :)

I went to 4 different bridal gown salons and tried on 23 dresses in a matter of 24 hours - I ended up finding the dress I wanted at Ava Clara and was very happy with my decision. The consultants are very knowledgable about different styles, and the store carries a wide selection of beautiful gowns in different price ranges that will be sure fall within your financial means. They offer to store your dress complimentary after it is altered (if that's needed) until the day of your wedding, and will even steam your gown for free a few days before the big day. They also offered me a discount towards preserving my gown. I had a great experience and would highly recommend checking them out!

I loved being able to work with Ava Clara Bridal! I had previous gone to a shop in my hometown, Raleigh NC, and had terrible service. It was a breath of fresh air to go to Ava Clara! They had the designer I was looking for and were familiar with various styles that are similar. I ended up moving area from the tidewater area before my veil and belt arrived in, however they were so sweet and mailed me both pieces without charge!!! They have made a potentially stressful situation into a treasured memory! I highly recommend this shop for any bridal needs!

I recently purchased my wedding dress at Ava Clara Bridal and loved every minute of my experience. I walked in and the stylist Julia had already pulled multiple dresses that I had previously described to her on the phone and also had different ideas of dresses that I also might like. She was amazing. I later booked an appointment to have my bridesmaids look at dresses and I found a dress for them within 20 minutes! They have an amazing selection and great customer service. Ava Clara made my dress shopping experience even better than I could have hoped for! I had shopped around at other stores that felt stuffy and judgmental. When I went into Ava Clara (I actually spotted my dress immediately in the window display) I was instantly greeted and felt comfortable.

I am one of those girls that have been dreaming about my wedding day since I was young. The staff here totally understood my vision and only pulled dresses that I fell in love with.

I Loved this place! Such dreamy gowns and you get the full attention from your consultant. She really listens to your tastes and what you want in a gown. They were extremely flexible and did not pressure me into anything. They told me I was welcome to come back after I had thought it over, giving me their store hours for the next few days that I was in town. They even gave me their email in case I had any questions and they weren't open. Very respectful of budget and very friendly! Just can't say enough how wonderful this experience was!

I had an amazing dress buying experience at Ava Clara! My stylist was Karen who really listened to what I wanted in my dress. My dress was the third one I tried on. I was told it would take up to 5 months for my dress to come in, but it came in early (in 3 months). I'm so happy with my dress, and also purchased a belt to wear with it. As a bonus, they will steam your dress the week before your wedding so it's in perfect condition.

I went theere and tried on many of their stunning wedding dresses, however, I ended up purchasing my dress elsewhere (to no fault of theirs, but when you don't see the "one", you just don't see it, not because of them). But I had such a phenomenal experience with the staff, the cleanliness, the high quality and the selection, that I went back and purchased my veil, accessories, and my bridesmaid dresses from them. Each experience that myself and my bridesmaids had with them was great; they were extremely helpful and sweet. They were never pushy, but were always willing to help. I would highly recommend this place for anyone shopping for a bridal gown or bridesmaid dresses. I went to 2 other bridal salons before making my way to Ava Clara. I didn't know at the time, but I had saved the best for last! The dresses at Ava Clara are gorgeous, but I was nervous due to my tight budget. No problem...I told Karen my vision and she immediately pulled 3 dresses that were amazing. Funnily, the first dress she had on the hanger did not look to be my style, but I went along with it. Wow! It was the most beautiful dress I had ever put on...my mom and I both knew right away this was the one. She had come in under my budget and way above my expectations!
Everyone was wowed by my dress, including my photographer! My dress was elegant, classic, vintage, and sexy. My photos look amazing and I could not imagine wearing anything different. Thank you Ava Clara for helping me feel like the most gorgeous bride ever!

All of the ladies there were fantastic and were the most welcoming of any of the stores I went to! They made me feel so special and helped me find the perfect dress. There was also a mix up of my appointment made online so when I showed up and wasn't in the system, they told me not to worry and they'd still fit me in right away. I was so happy with the product and service that I received from Ava Clara! The owner Alex made my wedding dress shopping an experience to remember. She made me feel so comfortable in my own skin and truly listened to what I was looking for in a wedding dress. Although I fell in love with a dress out of my budget, Alex did what she could to make it the perfect dress for me including adding buttons free of charge. In addition, she gave my bridesmaids a percentage off of their dresses. When I did have an issue with an accessory I purchased she exchanged it with no questions asked. I had such a great experience at Ava Clara! I live in the D.C. area and chose this bridal salon based on recommendations and excellent reviews. I could not have been more pleased! Alex made myself and my family feel comfortable from the second we walked in. I really had no idea what style of dress I wanted, so she pulled several different dresses based on some of the things I had told her about the venue and based on my personality. My experience with Ava Clara was top notch! I was attended to by Melinda whom was absolutely fantastic and 100% dedicated to finding me the dress of my dreams. I had my heart set on a Casablanca dress that I had found in another store but over my budget. Plus I was having a hard time visualizing myself in my dream dress because I'm a plus size bride. Melinda found another Casablanca dress in my size that was a similar style as my dream dress putting my mind at ease. Next, she worked with the owners to bring my dream dress price down to within my budget. Everything worked out perfect! On top of that, I attended my first appointment with a good girl friend and her pre-teen daughter. Her daughter had the time of her like getting to pick out dresses and getting to try on veils. So cute!

For my second appointment, I worked with Melinda and Alex taking my measurements and ordering my dress. Such a smooth process. I cannot wait for my dress to arrive. Thank you ladies of Ava Clara!

After having a terrible experience purchasing my first wedding dress, walking into Ava Clara and meeting Karen Tilley was like a breath of fresh air. From the second I walked through their doors, I felt very comfortable, welcomed and at ease! Karen really listened to everything I disliked about my old and put me in gowns that were more me! Karen was so attentive and patient with me through the whole process and genuinely wanted to see me happy with my decision. Their gowns are gorgeous, the prices are excellent, and Karen and Alex are absolutely wonderful to work with. They really take the time to get to know their clients and listen to what they want and don't want. Throughout the entire process, there was never any pressure to make a purchase, which was made me very comfortable and confident when I did end up purchasing "The One!" And on top of that, Karen went above and beyond to help me sell my other dress when she didn't have to. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Ava Clara Bridal! I had been to almost all bridal shops in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area (Davids, Maya Couture, All The Rage) plus walking into Silk and getting very rude service along with a nasty phone call from Pure English that basically told me before my appt that there were no dresses in my price range and I should look somewhere else! I was hoping Ava Clara would be my breath of fresh air.. and it was!
I was contacted almost immediately after placing a contact email with them and we set an appt date (which I ended up rescheduling with no problems at all) I walked into the cute little boutique and was greeted by Alex and Karen who were so wonderful! Karen worked with me on what I was looking for and you could tell she truly cared about my needs. Such a great down to earth person and not pressuring at all! I had a certain price point but after finding my dream dress (which of course was more than I wanted to spend) she worked with me on payment options (which maya couture did NOT) and also gave me a killer deal on a floor length veil!

I was so ecstatic when I left and also relieved that I found my dress! All brides need to check out Ava Clara. TRUST ME you will not be disappointed!

I bought my wedding dress from them at the Bridal Fair in Vancouver. They had some dresses there for half off, so I got a really good deal. The dress is beautiful. Very intricate lace and beading, like no other.
Clara herself was there and gave me a free veil just for buying the dress that day. When I came to get the dress almost a year later (I lived out of town), they remembered who I was and everything! It made the whole experience very personal. They are all very nice ladies who work there and I highly recommend them. I didn't get my dress fitted there, so I can't comment on their alterations!

I went to many shops and was treated poorly and was pushed to buy the most expensive dresses. I left those shops in tears and the feeling I just didn't even want a wedding dress. Alex and Karen at Ava Clara were fabulous - I couldn't have asked for more. They are very professional and knowledgeable and easy to work with. I had a great time choosing my dress there, they made it easy without pressure and a lovely experience. We did the fittings there, they bring in an outside tailor, and then they held the dress and steamed it until I was ready to pick it up. They have a very nice shop with spacious changing rooms and large mirrors as well as mirrors in front with risers so you can step up and see the dress even better. I loved working with them and I highly recommend their store! Great selection, great prices too!

Alex at Ava Clara was wonderful to work with. I came down to Virginia Beach for a visit with my family & made an appointment to try dresses for the first time. The store is clean, comfortable and impeccably decorated with great big dressing rooms--definitely not your generic wedding dress store. I didn't expect to find my dress after one appointment but Alex was patient and listened to my list of what I wanted, pulling dresses she thought might work. She helped me through the decision making process and was patient while I tried on THE dress again to be sure it was the one. I was able to add lace straps to the dress, making it a little different than the off-the-rack look. From the initial appointment, through the alteration process, I had a great experience at Ava Clara.

Ava Clara is beyond compare to other wedding dress shops! From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by how beautiful the store was, and by the level of service and attention I received. I knew I wanted to buy my dress there. I was concerned about my relatively low budget, but they were able to find me the perfect dress that was suprisingly affordable! The ladies at Ava Clara were a wonderful addition to the planning process. They were the first place and the only place we stopped at for a wedding dress. Once I walked into the shop, I cancelled all the other fittings for the weekend! Although I tried on a few dresses, they found the dress of my dreams on the first try! They worked with my budget and the dress did not break the bank! I was able to add finishing touches to the dress that was unique to my wedding and still remain under budget. I had a starfish attached to both my sash and to my birdcage veil. Their in-house seamstress was of the highest quality and tailored my dress perfectly. Through all the fittings and alterations, Ava Clara made sure that I loved my dress even more than the previous encounter.

We had thought that we found the dress already before going to ava clara but we already had an appointment so we went to try on dresses. That was our last appointment! They staff really listened to me and helped me find a dress that fit my personality and body and even had a great price. The dress I ended up with just happened to have been shipped in for someone else and was still in the store. Amazing timing! I couldn't have been more lucky. Everyone there is very friendly and patient. So happy with my dress!!

Karen and Alex are our heroes! We went to them first, when Ava Clara was the only local shop that carried the bridesmaids’ gowns we wanted. They worked professionally and efficiently with our large wedding party, especially with our out-of-town attendants (one in Florida, one in Guam!), which made for a worry-free process. Then, when the wedding gown we had previously purchased from another vendor proved to be a one-size-too-small, unalterable disaster, my devastated daughter (the bride) was rescued by these two wonderful young women, who turned a worse-case-scenario into an experience she’d always dreamed of. Not only did they offer advice and help in selling the ill-fitting first dress, but they took our plight to heart, offering calm and caring guidance and a workable plan to remedy the situation. With now-limited time before the wedding, they jumped into action, helped us find the PERFECT, made-to-order wedding gown from among an amazing, cutting edge selection, and worked with us on the price, which was invaluable under the circumstances. As busy as they were, they ALWAYS made us feel like we were their only clients and seemed to genuinely share our joy as well as our jitters. Karen and Alex, we can’t thank you enough for the personal interest you took, the expertise you offered, the quality and range of your couture collection, your amazing sense of style and ability to read our needs and desires, your flexibility—we could go on and on. Much more than just trustworthy bridal shop owners, we think of you as friends for your kindness in helping us through what would have been an impossible situation and will recommend you without reservation to everyone we know!

What a great experience I had at Ava Clara! I bought the first gown I tried on there....not because I felt pressured but because Karen truly listened to what I wanted and pulled my dream dress! I can't say enough about these ladies. It's a true bridal experience where you are listened too, not pushed beyond your budget and taken care of the whole time! All my guests thought my gown was beautiful and "so Stefanie"....at 5"1 it's tough to find a dress that doesn't overwhelm you but they definitely helped me get it right!

This is truly a couture bridal boutique! I first learned of Ava Clara’s salon opening upon seeing an ad in a local bridal magazine. I made an appointment to look at bridal gowns and MOH/bridesmaid dresses in October 2010. The boutique normally closes at 5 p.m., but happily scheduled us to come in after hours. The moment I walked into Ava Clara, I was in bridal bliss. We had the entire store to ourselves. The décor and layout were modern, classy, clean and organized. The selection of bridal and bridesmaid dresses was gorgeous, top quality, from amazing designers and appropriately priced.

I fell in love with my new dress the moment I tried it on. We also found dresses for my MOH, bridesmaids and flower girls there. Ava Clara made my veil, money dance sash and a bridal sash for my Chihuahua. Ava Clara also recommended me to a fabulous seamstress who altered my gown for a perfect fit.

As I kept in touch with the owners, Alex and Karen, I was always treated as a princess, as all brides should be. They gave helpful suggestions and opinions. They have a fabulous sense of style and taste, and obviously love what they do! Ava Clara provided outstanding customer service and bridal experience that I had not gotten at other stores. I was excited that Ava Clara is located in my hometown, which eliminated the need to search for dresses outside the 757.

During our wedding day on May 28, 2011, I completely felt like a gorgeous princess bride. Everyone LOVED my bridal gown and its details as much as I did. My husband, Jamie, said he was blown away when he saw me walk down the aisle. I think his jaw dropped! A few of my friends said, “That dress is very ‘Jenny!’” Friends and family asked where I bought it, and I happily told them it was from Ava Clara.

Karen was such an incredible help in finding my perfect wedding dress! She offered her wisdom and advice without being overbearing or pushy. Her demeanor is exactly what you would want in a saleswoman. They held my dress for me until a couple days before the wedding and even so, they were very accommodating whenever I wanted to come back in and try it on again for whatever reason. My dress was gorgeous!

I bought my wedding dress from Ava Clara and they were phenomenal. I cannot recommend their service, professionalism, and personal care more highly! My consultant, Melinda, was really kind and helpful. I had sent her a few pictures of dress styles I liked and my budget, and she was ready with dress suggests when I arrived for my appointment. I was torn between 2 dresses and tried each on many times before deciding; Melinda was patient throughout, and offered advice without being intrusive. She also offered me complimentary sizing - I'm very short so instead of having to alter a lot of length the dress would be made for my height from the start. I also decided I wanted to add sleeves after I left, and she was super responsive in helping me figure out designs; she even sent me pictures she looked up. My dress came in ahead of schedule and I can't wait to see it! Bottom line: Ava Clara rocks!

Update: The tailor they employ wasn't very professional. She is abrupt and a little hard to understand, but her work was good.

My experience at Ava Clara was amazing. Karen was such a supportive consultant. She asked the right questions to figure out exactly what I was looking for and what price point I was trying to stay at. When I'd ask about a dress out of my budget, she was honest with me and told me it was pricey and then showed me something similar in my budget. I was the only appointment in the store so I got to experience the one-on-one consultant time you don't always get at bridal shops. My only minor complaint was that I wasn't prepared for how costly the alterations were going to be. I used the woman who Ava Clara recommended and wound up spending about a third of the cost of my dress on alterations. It was huge expense I wasn't expecting but the alterations were flawless so I suppose it was worth the pretty penny!

Ava Clara was wonderful in helping me find the perfect dress. Every step of ordering my dress was perfect. I ordered a custom bottom on my dress and they were extremely helpful in making sure I knew exactly what I would be getting. My dress came in early and just they couldn't have been more accommodating in helping me with every detail. My only small disappointment was in my bustle. The alterations person that they use was great, except my bustle came out multiple times at my wedding and was ripped out my the end of the night. It just was left too long for a bustle...

Melinda was so helpful & kind! Customized dress during Covid!

I had a rough time finding a dress, going to over 10+ wedding dress shops. Melinda at Ava Clara was SO sweet, really a breath of fresh air and made me feel so comfortable throughout the entire process! :) And I didn’t even feel crazy pressured with her, which I had felt from most places. When I found a dress that I was 95% sure about, she helped me customize it (before it went into production) so that I could 100% LOVE it! GREAT atmosphere! I wish I had come to this shop in the first place before all the others!!! and that’s coming from someone who lives in Newport News and made the hour drive one-way to come to this shop. It was worth it!

Purchasing my customized dress in Dec 2019 and then Covid hitting while it was on production (wedding in Nov, dress was supposed to arrive in May) did cause about a month delay, but Ava Clara did try to keep me updated on what was going on with it. I’ll also be wearing it next year to my big reception since we did an intimate wedding this year due to Covid.

I loved working with Alex and everyone at Ava Clara. I had different ideas in mind for what I wanted in a wedding dress and they were able to turn those into a complete vision. My dress was customized to include a built-in corset and three-quarter sleeves, things I didn't even know could be done! Additionally, when the designer did not follow the proper measurements and my first fitting was a nightmare, the staff at Ava Clara took care of everything to make it absolutely perfect. The one thing I wish had been different would be that when I made an appointment to first see my dress after the designer shipped it, that appointment was not an alterations appointment. I wish that had been better communicated and/or given as an option because I was driving several hours from DC to be there. That being said, their seamstress did a wonderful job fixing the designer's mistake and creating a beautiful bustle.

I happened to I walk into Ava Clara after an upsetting morning of trying on dresses. They took me immediately and within two dresses I had found the one! Melinda was amazing and so personable. A bit pricey, but in the end so worth it.

My experience was amazing at Ava Clara, the first time I went I found my gown. On my wedding day I looked amazing and my pictures were gorgeous I got so many compliments on my dress. If you are looking for the top couture dresses in the 757 at a reasonable price go to Ava Clara

I bought my custom Modern Trousseau wedding dress from Ava Clara. Alex was wonderful at my initial appointment. She took all of my measurements and my understanding was that the dress would require very few alterations since it was being custom tailored by the designer from the outset. When I returned for my fitting, Alex was out on maternity leave (congrats, Alex!) and another staff member helped me. While the dress was gorgeous and fit okay, it obviously needed alterations. The staff member was not very knowledgeable and did not fully understand my questions about the customization or the role of the external tailors that Ava Clara recommended. I ended up getting fitted for alterations as many times as someone who does not order a custom dress (and paying double, between the premium of a custom dress and multiple alterations). While the dress turned out beautifully and I loved it, I wish that Ava Clara had better educated me on what to expect. However, Ava Clara has an upscale feel to it and its dresses are, in my opinion, higher quality than the other, larger wedding dress vendors in Hampton Roads.

Ava Clara is a cute little bridal boutique, with beautiful dresses and accessories. I ended up getting my dress (actually it was a bridesmaid dress), a belt, my veil, and a hairpiece. They were as sweet as can be and super helpful. I would highly recommend the ladies at Ava Clara.

I have very mixed feelings regarding Ava Clara. My initial appointment when I picked out my wedding dress went great and for some reason I just felt "bad" every time I left their boutique. There were times I felt like I bugged them or times I felt like I wasn't good enough to be in their store. Overall, I feel like I got a great dress and I married the man of my dreams.

We enjoyed our experience with Ava Clara. Gina was very sweet and helpful and we were able to find a beautiful dress that in the end I loved. My only complaint would be the sales people should know the type of dress that is best for each body type and make recommendations based on that. Sometimes the dress you love will fit you differently when it comes in and the difference between the showroom dress and your dress should be talked about. I have a very small bust and the dress I chose was very wrong for my body. I also was extremely disappointed with their alterations recommendation, if you buy a dress from Ava Clara, look elsewhere for alterations. The woman (very nice) didn’t know how to fix the problem without adding 2 DD padded cups into my dress. I don’t have a bust, how does adding that much padding even make sense? Overall the experience was good, and now it’s the only high-end shop in town.

Beautiful dress but issues with followup

The girl who helped me select my dress was absolutely wonderful. She was super patient, chose some great options and helped me weigh my choices. Unfortunately, and this is not the boutique’s fault, the dress should have come in within 4-6 months and it ended up being well over 7. The issue is that I lived out of state and needed to buy a plane ticket to come back to do my fittings. Every time I called to check on the dresses ETA, I was told it would be in the following week but never received a follow up call. The arrival kept getting pushed back and back. When it finally came in and I purchased my ticket to fly across the country, I explained that this was my only chance to do a fitting with them and booked to come in on a Saturday. When I got there, they told me their seamstress only did fittings on Thursdays. I would not expect them to move that around for me but I do not understand why they booked me for a Saturday when I stressed that this was my only chance to do a fitting. Overall, it turned out great and I found another seamstress to squeeze me in but the breakdown of communication and lack of proactive-ness on Ava Clara’s part would lead me to not recommend them.

Ava Clara is not worth your time or money.

Very inconsistent in the information I was told about when my dress was ordered, when it was coming into the store, when to pick it up, etc. which made it extremely difficult trying to order a dress and receive it in enough time to take it to a seamstress. I ordered the dress 11 months in advance.
It seemed like every employee was telling me something different. Save yourself the time and money and go to Truly Yours in Williamsburg, VA. Same dresses and more selection but much better customer service.

Terrible Customer Service

I had one day where my mom was going to be in town to shop for my dress, so we had no choice but to visit 5 different bridal shops. Ava Clara was my last appointment of the day, and I happened to find my dress at another shop appointment. I called Ava Clara as soon as I found my dress at the other store, let them know about the situation, and said I needed to cancel my appointment. They said they would still be charging me the cancellation fee. We called back later to question it, and the woman we spoke with on the phone was extremely rude the entire time.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the concept of the cancellation fee completely, but think there should be some leeway when a bride calls to cancel because she found her dress (rather than just canceling for a generic reason). In my opinion, it would have been rude of me and a waste of THEIR time to show up for an 1.5 hour appointment knowing I would not be buying a dress from them. They absolutely could have opened that spot for a walk-in or called another bride on their waiting list. Charging me a cancellation fee–seemingly as a punishment— because I happened to find my dress that same day at another shop seems opportunistic.

The owner of the other shop (Silk Bridal) where I did purchase my dress overheard what was happening, and offered to take the price of the cancellation fee from Ava Clara off the cost of the dress we were going to purchase. She even offered me a 10% discount because my Fiancé is in the Navy. THAT is good customer service.

I understand every bridal shop has to run their business, but there needs to be some understanding and compassion considering how emotional of a choice this kind of thing is, especially when the customer does their part to be prompt about the cancellation, and be honest about the situation so as not to waste anyone's time.

Beautiful selection but disappointing customer service. I found my dream dress, ordered, paid the deposit and waited patiently for it to come in. When it arrived, it was two inches too short - you could see the top of my feet! The sales associate responded that I "must have been looking down when they measured me". As a professional, I'd expect them to tell me to stand up straight if that was even the case. They refused to order a new dress, but did cover the cost of adding additional lace at the bottom (It looks great, but I was devastated that they had to band aid the dress). I then won tickets to a bridal show from a giveaway they posted on Instagram. I was out of the country for the holidays, and asked if I could pick it up a day later than what they had posted, and they declined, stating I'd have to have someone pick them up for me. I had hoped, with the trouble with my dress, they'd extend that courtesy to me, and was surprised when they didn't. I went in yesterday to pick up my dress, showed up 45 minutes early at their request, and was hurried along. As soon as I got it on, Melinda said, "well, looks like it still fits" (Yes, I think that was the plan). I was not allowed to try on the belt, my shoes, my jewelry, anything with the dress. She pulled the dress off of me. I asked if they could steam my belt (which they had promised that they would when my mom asked), and she said, "You just have to take an iron to it. We'd have to set up a different apparatus to steam it, and we're trying to close early". I responded that you should never tell a paying customer that, and that I had had a terrible experience with Ava Clara from the beginning. She then mentioned that she had had a family emergency, and while I pray that every thing was okay, there was another associate in the store that could have helped me and there was no reason for me to have been treated so poorly. Just a very disappointing experience - once the sale is made, they don't seem to care about you.
