Ann-Marie is amazing. A true people person, she was recommended to us by the bartenders at our neighborhood bar. We set up a meeting, and immediately it was clear that the three of us “got” each other. We talked through what was important to us as a couple in our photos, and where there was wiggle room for her creative input. Our engagement photos and our wedding photos all came out beautiful. Everyone was at ease with Ann-Marie, that the smiles and laughs were genuine because it was like she was an old friend cracking jokes. She’s now done other work with me at my job, and my boss... it just keeps going on. She’s amazing. -

Ann-Marie was hands down our favorite wedding vendor. She was very professional and super friendly and fun. She is a highly skilled photographer, our photos are very candid and relaxed, and she caught so many fun details from the day. She was a natural with babies, dogs, family members, friends, and a nervous bride (me). The groom describes her as, "one of the most comforting, confidence-building presences at our wedding." We were so happy to have found Ann-Marie, we recommend her 1000%! Thanks Ann-Marie! -

I highly recommend working with Ann-Marie for your wedding photos! We used to work together before she went full-time with her photography, and I was so impressed with her work photographing a friend's wedding two years ago that when I got engaged, I knew she was the choice for my super small, family-only, covid-safe wedding. Not only were the pictures beautiful, she is easy to communicate with, on time, totally professional, and fun to work with. She was thoughtful about covid safety and wore a mask during the wedding, which was important to us. My small at-home wedding was a bit unusual and we had to make a lot of last-minute changes, but Ann-Marie was a great sport about it and her flexibility with my family's situation meant so much to me. My whole family loves the pictures. She captured all the main action and portraits that we wanted, but my favorites are the ones of small sweet moments between people who were there. I know we will treasure these photos for years to come. Thanks, Ann-Marie! -

I'll start with the photos. They are beautiful with lots of candid moments (which I really value). Beyond photos, Ann-Marie was wonderful to work with.
We had a Covid wedding and changed plans so many times. Ann-Marie was flexible through the whole process. Day-of, she was a real rock star. She showed up early and stayed late - well beyond the hours contracted. She's fun, engaging, and interacted so well with us and our guests. She helped us feel at ease during pre-wedding moments and chatted up guests throughout the night. We'll definitely use her again in for future photos and events. We couldn't have asked for a better photographer. -

How did we get so lucky??
I can’t imagine a better photographer than Ann-Marie! When I asked a friend for wedding vendor suggestions, she said that Ann-Marie was her favorite vendor from her whole wedding. We were planning during COVID so even though I couldn’t meet her in person when we hired her, I knew this was the right choice.
We did an engagement shoot, and of course, she lived up to the hype! All of the photos were fantastic, and she has great suggestions to help get lots of different shots without feeling posed.
For the wedding, she helped us make our timeline, managed to get every shot of our (large) families and at sunset she snuck off with us to take golden hour photos. We wouldn’t have thought to do that, but those are some of our favorite photos from the wedding because of how she played with the light. She has a really fun vibe and fit right in - from corralling our families to jumping into the dance floor to get shots of our friends. We highly recommend her! -

We hired Ann-Marie to be the photographer for our wedding after she was recommended to us from our coordinator. Her services were as promised: highly detailed, punctual, super competent to "figure it out" when we didn't have a plan, and, most importantly, able to keep everyone at ease, including us, the bride and groom.
The result of her work was fantastic, and I can't say enough positive things about her; I've recommended her services to another couple getting married already!
First of all, due to COVID, we were never able to meet in person before. the wedding. I worried that my husband and I wouldn't feel totally comfortable being photographed (we're camera shy to begin with), particularly by someone who we had only met over the phone. All that worry was for naught; Ann-Marie is just about the most refreshing and calming source of energy on our wedding day. She cheerfully kept our family members in line while breezing through all the family portraits at the church with ease, using a very long list we had created together before the wedding to ensure we didn't miss anyone. She kept the same demeanor throughout the evening, expertly navigating MOBs and drunk uncles to get the shots she needed.
One of my favorite parts of the day, very honestly, was the time my husband and I spent taking photos alone with just Ann-Marie. We were SO worried about being awkward in front of the camera, but her shooting style is so disarming, we felt as though we were in the park with a close friend. Our time with her helped us slow down during the hubbub of the day, and I think this helped make our photos so great and special. We look relaxed and truly happy in our pictures together, without feeling too posed or rushed. We were SO pleased with the final photos, and I attribute that in a big way to Ann-Marie's cool-as-a-cucumber style.
In addition to her overall demeanor day-of the event, Ann-Marie approached our event with a high level of detail. She ended up drafting our first timeline of the day, which our coordinator then built off of. She. walked us through her process and when and how she planned to capture the types of images every bride wants. She worked with us to build an (extensive) list of all of the photos we wanted, with which friends and family members, what time of day, and in which location. She was honest with us when we were trying to fit in too much, and worked with us to find solutions to annoying issues between family members. One really good example of this: my mom and dad are divorced and do not speak to each other, but I wanted to make sure I had "getting ready" pictures with both my mom and stepmom. Ann-Marie worked with us to do dress and make up photos with my mom, and then head to my dad and step mom's room to do a "first look" with my dad and put on some special jewelry with my step mom.
OK, on to the next reason why you should hire her: Ann-Marie's pure talent and professionalism. We've all been in those weddings where the photos with the family or bridal parties drag on for ages because the photographer is always hoping the next shot will be the best one (in other words, they're never sure they have "THE picture" yet). Ann-Marie was AWESOME because she knew: when she had the shot she wanted, we moved on to the next spot or the next set of photos. She kept the pace moving by always knowing for certain she had the photo she wanted. We ended up having extra time between the ceremony and reception because we finished taking all the photos we had planned for 2 hours. Because she knew when she was done with a set or at a location, we ended up arriving at the reception venue early and she spent some time photographing us just relaxing and having a drink before the guests arrived. Very honestly, these were some of our favorite photos of the night, just the two of us.
And finally (and most importantly) we loved working with Ann-Marie because of her style of shooting and the resulting photos. When we approached her originally it was because we loved the style of her photographs; she catches the small moments of joy, happiness, love, silliness, and friendship. We love the posed family photos she took with us outside the church and up at the alter, but really our most favorite photos are the ones that capture the smaller, tender, fleeting, and intimate moments of laughter, tears, and all feelings in-between. They are photos that treasure the bonds between partners, sisters, parents and children, and true friends.
We are so grateful, thank you Ann-Marie. We love every photo you sent us from the day, and would recommend your services to just about anyone looking for photos of events, families, engagements, etc. -

Ann-Marie was one of the very best vendors we worked with in our whole wedding planning experience. Having initially planned our wedding for what turned out to be the worst point of the first wave of the COVID pandemic, we ended up having to both postpone and then later switch to a social-distanced "micro-wedding." Through it all, Ann-Marie was extremely supportive and flexible. She is very upbeat and encouraging, which is something you really need when you're dealing with multiple rounds of planning, re-planning and disappointment when you realize most of your loved ones will not be able to attend in person. In terms of her photography, she did a fantastic job. Both of us usually feel that we look awkward in pictures, but Ann-Marie did an amazing job of putting us at ease, which in turn meant that she was actually able to take great pictures of us! She also totally adjusted to the new social-distanced circumstances and found ways to take pictures that did not feel obviously social distanced, like having friends and family stand six feet apart in different parts of the gazebo. She knew when to just take pictures of people with their masks on, and when it was appropriate to take them without. Overall, Ann-Marie was probably the only thing part of our wedding that went smoothly and as originally planned (and she was also the vendor that was most responsive and we didn't have problems with extensive delays and need for follow ups like we did with other vendors). Would highly recommend! -

Ann-Marie is the girl for your wedding day photos! She was so easy to connect with, professional but fun and truly made the whole experience a blast! From day of booking she had the same level of excitement about our wedding that our friends did. Ann-Marie was great to work with leading up to the event and was so organized and transparent about her plans and timeline; this helped the wedding day run smoothly and allowed everyone to be worry free! She took charge and made sure that everyone felt included and captured all of our special day of moments. We cannot thank her enough or recommend her enough! -

Ann-Marie was fantastic! We had a small, very low-key ceremony and she was super flexible, working with us to make sure we got everything we needed and nothing we didn't. She was very responsive and organized while staying totally relaxed and upbeat. On the day of, she went above and beyond, including helping us with some unanticipated post-ceremony clean-up without batting an eye. She made us and all of our guests very comfortable, and did a great job keeping things fun while remaining professional (we got multiple comments about how great she was!). Finally, she delivered her photos ahead of the timeline she'd given us and they are fabulous - she did such a great job of capturing the spirit of the day. We would recommend Ann-Marie in a heartbeat!! -

We hired Ann-Marie for our wedding photographer almost 9 months before our wedding and we never looked back. She went above and beyond from the moment we met her. On our wedding day, she added extra time to our day because she didn't want me to "miss out on any photos I might want" of my wedding day. Everyone at our wedding told us how she was so great at her job, maintaining professionalism, but also making everyone feel at ease and like she was another guest having fun at the wedding. She didn't miss a beat. I can't sing praises high enough for how happy we are with choosing Ann-Marie! -

The Best Photographer!
From my first phone call with Ann-Marie, we hit it off and I knew I wanted to hire her. She is so friendly, professional and easy to work with. She keeps you organized and steers you in the right direction, but also gives you room to give your preferences and opinions in terms of schedule, shot list ect. The photos turned out so amazing and really captured the emotions of the day. The photos were a mixed of the posed professional shots that all brides want (family photos, bridesmaids, groomsmen, bride/groom shots) but also the best candid moments between guests. It really felt like we could relive the day through the photos. Working with her the day of the wedding was also so fun and easy. She kept everyone moving and also had a great and fun attitude the whole time. I cannot recommend Ann-Marie enough, hire her for your wedding!! -

Ann-Marie is amazing!
Our experience with Ann-Marie was wonderful from start to finish. From our first conversation we were drawn to her warm personality and enthusiasm. She was responsive and flexible leading up to the wedding, and she was such a ray of positive energy on our wedding day. Ann-Marie navigated a pre-ceremony photo shoot on a crowded National Mall in 90+ degree August heat and got us through a dauntingly long list of family photo arrangements post-ceremony with the utmost professionalism and enthusiasm (and in time for us to catch cocktail hour) and then managed to capture everything we wanted from the evening. And the photos ... I tend to be very critical of photos of myself so I was a little nervous, but her photos were truly wonderful. She captured every part of our day and the photos are so beautiful I can't stop looking at them. I know we will cherish them for a long time. I could go on, but honestly I will just say she was hands down our best vendor decision; DC area couples, look no further! -

Ann-Marie's photos are beautiful! We cannot stop looking at them. From the start, she was helpful, friendly, professional and personable. Ann-Marie has a true artist's eye and it shows in her work. Our formal wedding party photos are unique and the candids captured the mood of the evening perfectly. She made sure to get all of the shots we were looking for and more. Brittni Sent on 06/25/2018Ann Marie is a great friend of ours - so we’ve known how talented of a photographer/artist she is, however - I was completely blown away by her level of professionalism. She handled our family photos like a CHAMP, which was a daunting task considering my husband is one of 8 children! She was so methodical, organized, encouraging and upbeat the entire time. Guests at our wedding kept commenting on what a wonderful job she was doing, and how kind, warm and professional she was. Like many brides, I kind of blacked out most of my day and ceremony (not because of booze because brides are far too busy for that) but because I was so busy talking to everyone, anxious, excited, etc. It was so amazing going through my photos Ann Marie took and being able to jog my memory from the moment she captured. I absolutely loved my photos and my experience with AM as my photographer exceeded all expectations tremendously. Thank you so much!!!

Ann-Marie's friendly, warm and outgoing personality has you connecting as instant best friends. Being comfortable around our photographer was an important part of our vetting process (who needs more stress on their wedding day?!) and Ann-Marie was a clear winner. She is clearly an artist and her work proves it. She is a hard worker, shows up early and is an expert on pinning on boutonnieres (hey, you never know how tricky it can be!) Plus she turned our photos around in weeks - I've had friends wait months for their wedding photos. Our photos were stunning and we couldn't be happier. I know you'll feel the same if you go with Ann-Marie VanTassell! -

I choose Ann-Marie purposefully because I liked her unique style much better than the typical portrait wedding photography that gets all the same shots of every wedding. During my wedding Ann-Marie had so much fun interacting with guests that many of my guests commented to me how much they loved my photographer. After looking through our pictures, I think I am most pleased with the very special moments Ann-Marie gracefully captured. These are moments that aren't staged and they really show how much love was at our wedding. I think my all time favorite shot is my husband's grandfather kissing him on the cheek (Italians!). Overall, I am extremely happy with Ann-Marie and would definitely use her services in the future and will recommend to others! <3 -

We hired Ann-Marie for our originally-scheduled wedding in 2020. Once we decided to postpone it until October 2021, Ann-Marie happily accommodated our change of plans. Although COVID prevented us from meeting in person, we had several calls--some video--with Ann-Marie, because she really strives to get a sense of you as a couple and how you'd like your big day to go and photos to look. We found Ann-Marie to be so personable from the get-go, and found ourselves laughing a lot during our calls and feeling like we were chatting with an old friend. Ann-Marie even thoughtfully sent us an engagement gift and a post-wedding gift.
Our guests also loved Ann-Marie and commended her hard work on our wedding day. She was always right where the action was, without seeming intrusive. Her talent and hard work are evident in the hundreds of incredible photos she sent us.
Thank you so much, Ann-Marie! We couldn't have asked for a better photographer, and we will cherish your photos for the rest of our lives. -

Guests and bridal party loved her and did not feel she was pushy or aggressive. She remained composed and graceful under stress and always had a smile on her face. We got a ton of shots and they are extremely high quality-- her education and experience shows in her work.
