Amelia is wonderful! From meeting her for cupcakes before our engagement photos, showing her around our alma matter’s campus for engagement photos, to the wedding day were she helped coordinate everything. She coordinated a second shooter to get every detail of our day, she sang baby shark to the little ones to get them to smile during pictures, and she made sure me and my husband had everything we needed. She is such a kind hearted person and truly made our wedding day one we will remember forever! -

The Sweetest Soul With Extreme Talent!
Amelia was without a doubt our favorite vendor from our wedding. We got to chat and get to know her a bit more before we booked and then had a dreamy evening capturing our fall engagement photos. She makes you feel like a million bucks and gets you smiling so big you have to take a smile break! There was a chance of rain all day on our wedding day and her presence was so calming, spinning it to a positive that the lighting was perfect for photos. She works amazing with family and getting them in to place for photos. Her art of capturing the perfect moment is priceless and her editing style does not take away the natural beauty of your surroundings. The photos are absolutely timeless and we will enjoy all our photos forever and ever. We cannot wait for the next excuse to get professional photos taken by Amelia, she truly is the brightest light and trust her to capture every important moment in my life. Book Amelia now! -

My now husband and I had to change wedding photographers to someone more local than our og photographer due to COVID. Amelia was very flexible with our quick change. She helped us not only plan our pictures but also our wedding timeline! She has a lot of experience which helped us make small changes to make our wedding events go smoothly. She has a very outgoing, kind, and fun personality. We had a lot of family pictures that we wanted and we were worried that we would not have time. Amelia was very efficient and made sure we got all the photos we wanted. Our family members said she was very enjoyable to work with too. My husband and I are in love with her quality and style of photos! She captured our wedding day perfectly! Highly recommend hiring Amelia! -

Amelia was an absolute delight to work with! We had to change our plans and cancel our photographer last minute due to COVID-19, and Amelia was willing to be our photographer with just under one month's notice! She was incredibly flexible, and very personable. She met with us over video chat, and helped us to feel a lot more confident in our photography timeline for our special day. She was able to go through our various family photos very quickly, and had great ideas for different poses and places to go! If you're wanting a photographer that will make you feel comfortable, get a bunch of good photos, and have lots of ideas, choose Amelia! -

We had the best experience with Amelia for our Engagement Pictures and for our Wedding this fall! I chose Amelia based on reviews on wedding wire and it was not a mistake! She is fun, bubbly, and makes you feel comfortable being yourself! She captured our wedding better than we could have ever imagined possible. Photos were STUNNING and we received them back so so quickly! I feel lucky to have found such a great photographer but even better person! I know we will be calling Amelia for years to come for family and futures baby photos! She was a true joy to work with as well as her assistant Erin! Thank you so much Amelia! -

I had the honor of working with Amelia at a wedding this summer. I was the videographer. Amelia was a pleasure to work with and I was highly impressed with her attention to detail, creativity and how she interacted with everyone during the wedding day. She even found time to edit a few pictures in between the wedding and ceremony and was able to show them during the reception. After the wedding I was able to see the pictures she took and read the blog post she created detailing the wedding day. What amazing pictures and uplifting and positive comments in her blog. I would love to work with her again and I have already recommended her as a photographer to some of my wedding clients. -

Where do we even begin! Amelia exceeded our high expectations. Our original photographer fell through two months prior to our wedding and thankfully we found Amelia Renee Photography. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The photos and video she captured and edited for us were stunning, creative and thoughtful. My mom found Amelia Renee Photography and told me that out of all the ones she found Amelia knew how to “capture the essence of the couple’s personalities”. Turned out to be so true. 😊 Amelia was super easy and fun to work with, I felt like I could be honest and upfront about anything. Highly recommend! -

After graduating and being able to see her photograph for various friends' weddings over the years, I knew I felt very confident in her abilities as a photographer. She did an incredible job capturing my wedding day. Amelia is amazing to work with! She's been an absolute joy to work with, all the way down to the nitty gritty details. She also recommended me to a local florist (who was equally amazing!) And she worked so hard to turn out our pictures quickly - I couldn't believe how quickly we got them back in the middle of a busy wedding season. The pictures themselves were gorgeous and everyone kept commenting how well they turned out! I would recommend her to anybody! -

Amelia is amazing to work with. She's very artistic and gives great direction. Especially if you're not sure how to pose. She really knows what she's doing and creates gorgeous shots. The photography will definitely not be something to stress about on your big day when she's in charge. -

Organized, Professional and Fun Photographer
My husband and I had such a great experience working with Amelia. She made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera (and that does not come naturally). Our wedding party could not stop talking about how much fun they had taking pictures, even the men. Amelia is professional and organized. She kept both the engagement and wedding shoot moving and made the most of our time. I would highly recommend hiring Amelia for your own wedding. We can't wait to get family photos with her in the future. (Only problem is choosing our favorite photos...)
Additionally, Amelia is great when working with Midwest weather. Our engagement shoot was below freezing with a couple inches of snow. Our wedding had high winds, cloudy weather and rain. -

No communication
I would recommend Amelia for family or couples sessions, but would absolutely avoid her for your wedding. Our engagement session we originally planned to shoot outside in the snow, but as it got closer to our date I asked if we could move our session inside as I was having trouble finding outfits that would be both appropriate for an hour outside and would look good in pictures. Her website states she assists in picking outfits for sessions but we did not get anything except her brochure with generic advice you could find on any engagement photographers blog. She listed a couple of options and we decided on a greenhouse she suggested When we got there we were surprised at the lack of greenery. Yes it was a greenhouse in Iowa in the dead of winter but since she suggested it we assumed it was somewhere she had done previous sessions and could expect more plants. We made due with what was there and I was shocked when we got our gallery back, they were better than I expected. Then there was silence. For months. We had one phone call to discuss our timeline that lasted around 15 minutes.Throughout the process we discussed wanting to get pictures somewhere in the Cedar Valley, both my fiance and I grew up in the area and wanted to tribute some of the area in our wedding photos. Amelia, as a Cedar Falls native, agreed when we asked her to scope out locations for us post ceremony. Day of our wedding she shows up late. We ended up being ahead of schedule and finished our photos earlier than expected, and started our ceremony early. We served communion which is something in our phone call we specifically noted as we wanted photos of us serving our families. Amelia took no photos of us taking communion and we wouldn't have any photos of it had it not been for her second shooter. When we asked about it she blamed a lack of communication which we feel falls on her as the professional to communicated or to at least take the pictures as a "just in case" and omit them from the final gallery if the couple doesn't want them. After our ceremony we left to take couples portraits, and although stating she would find locations for us she had not. I think she banked on the rainy weather to deter us from expecting her to do her job. We spent probably 20 minutes doing what we expected on our timeline to take over an hour. When asked why Amelia stated " I would have been happy to take more photos of you two, but I felt that you both wanted to spend time talking with your guests & family (which I 100% support and didn't want to hold you from!) so in hindsight? Maybe I should have asked you two to explore more outside with me!" In hindsight she should have taken our original opinion into consideration. Much to my dismay our untraditional wedding ended up costing us in the photos we received. Not only did she ignore us wanting to take more couples pictures she also said she delivered a lower number of photos because other couples "also have wedding party photos and reception events to capture". If you are a numbers person like I am, we spent $3531 for our package, shot 40 minutes for our engagement session and got just under 200 photos and shot for what Amelia estimates to be 4 hours on our wedding day and received just over 400 photos. When we got our gallery back we were so excited to go through them together, until it started to feel like all Amelia did for editing was slap a preset filter on the image as she didn't edit her second shooter out of multiple photos. The selections she made on which photos to edit? Immaculate, thanks to AI she uses to cull down the shots she takes. Meaning if you specifically ask for unposed candid photos, they aren't making the cut as they probably won't make it past the automated cutting room floor. Extremely disappointed I spent thousands of dollars for someone to half ass their job, not including reference photos out of courtesy. Thanks for the disappointment! -

Very disappointed – I was really looking forward to receiving wedding photography services from Amelia. Sadly, my experience with Amelia Renee Photography was beyond stressful. After booking fall 2019, I hadn’t heard from Amelia until I reached out in April 2020 in regard to her COVID-19 policies as a second wave was being predicted to hit in the fall. Our wedding was booked for late fall 2020 and my fiancé and I were having some serious anxiety about how to proceed. After much discussion between my fiancé and I, we decided to scale back our wedding out of caution and move it 1.75 hours closer to home, needing to change our venue as well as our date. All of which I understand is not Amelia’s fault but each of our other vendors were extremely understanding and flexible given we are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic and at that time, 6 months away from our big day. Amelia was not.
Amelia was by far the most stressful part of moving an entire wedding to a different part of the state during a pandemic. While she gave us an alternative option – save our date, wait until the last possible minute and if need be, split ceremony and reception time between this year and next. This option was not going to work for us with our new ceremony date and we had no desire for a reception down the line. Long story short, my finance and I are out nearly a $1000. The only service she provided was saving a date that was reasonable to assume she could fill within a half year – no engagement photography shoot, no wedding photography planning assistance as she advertises, only four dragged out email replies, a short 10 minute phone call and two weeks of horrid stress. She was unwilling to give us a dime of our deposit back or even an engagement shoot to offset the cost. I would have been happy with even $100, a mini-session or credit for a future session, something (ANYTHING) that said she was sensitive to the unprecedented situation. Furthermore, she had forgot to bill us at the beginning of 2020 and told us we should consider that as a partial refund. However, given my experience working with Amelia – I am confident that had she billed us and had we paid, we would be out double our money.
We are relieved to no longer be working with Amelia. While she cited industry policy for not returning any of our funds, it’s simply not true. I have found a wonderful photographer who altered her contract to include reasonable COVID-19 specific policies. In normal circumstances, keep the money but these are anything but normal circumstances and she barely provided us any service. I have visited several forums discussing wedding photography deposit policies for COVID-19 couples; many photographers saying they would return some funds, even if cancelled within two weeks, as long as an engagement shoot was not provided. As a reminder, our wedding was 6 months away and we never received an engagement shoot.
My fiancé and I may end up and are more than happy to pay more for our new photographer and her services than what we would have paid Amelia, simply because we feel like she heard us and cared. At the end of the day, this whole situation is much more than money and I hope Amelia comes to realize that. My recommendation for all brides with weddings that could be impacted by COVID-19 looking for Iowa wedding photography services from Amelia or any photographer, make sure you ask about their COVID-19 policies and book with caution. Signs of inflexibility should be seen as a red flag no matter how “experienced” they are. Unfortunately, we did not have the luxury of knowing that a pandemic was going to wreak havoc on 2020 when we booked Amelia Renee Photography.
I should note that immediately following this situation, I personally provided this feedback to Amelia. This review and everything I have said, should not come as a surprise to her. In fact, as of June 5th, 2020, you can no longer view or leave a Facebook review for her. All-in-all, I hope this detailed review will help prevent other couples from having to go through what my fiancé and I did.
