I would like to preface this post by saying that I have never written an online review, but I felt obligated to share my wonderful experience with the Abita Quail Farm.

My wife and I visited many different reception halls in the Covington area, and were unimpressed as a whole until we visited the Abita Quail Farm. We met with the owner, Mr. John d'Hemecourt, and toured his beautiful establishment. We knew instantly that this was the place for us. The Quail Farm offers such a wide variety of scenery, there is something for everyone to love. There were roughly 200 guests at our reception, and the main hall easily accommodated all of our guests, a large dance floor, a buffet area, two bars and an area for a band/DJ. However, for those guests who prefer to get away from the hustle and bustle can relax on the patio, or take a romantic walk around the lake and enjoy the natural beauty of the Quail Farm.

With all of that being said, the real magic of the Quail Farm is Mr.John d'Hemecourt. He went above and beyond in all possible aspects. We met with Mr. d'Hemecourt several times before the reception, and each time he managed to amaze me. His only concern throughout the entire process was to make our wedding reception the night of our dreams. For every idea or request we presented, he either had a solution, or would work with us to find a solution. Mr. d'Hemecourt also attended to the entire reception to ensure all of our dreams came true.

The Abita Quail Farm and Mr. d'Hemecourt took much of the stress of wedding planing, and replaced it with the most wonderful night I could imagine.

I absolutely love the Quail Farm. The grounds are beautiful and the owners are amazing. THey did everything they could to make sure the wedding day went smoothly and that everybody had a good time. Very professional and amazing food! The food is all fresh and handmade, nothing frozen.

My daughters wedding reception was held at the Abita Quail Farm in January. The whole experience was one we will cherish. Family and friends are still talking about how beautiful everything was. We decorated the day before and were able to go back the day of the wedding for a last minute check. The food was exceptional and the serving tables stayed full. The staff was professional and helpful with anything we needed. The grounds were manicured and renovations on the property were completed just before my daughters wedding. We were very pleased with everything and could not have asked for a more beautiful setting. Many thanks and compliments to the D'Hemecourts

The owners of this beautiful property, with a larger ballroom area for several hundred people and the smaller music room for approximately 75, take immense pride in the appearance of the grounds, the buildings and the food. There was adequate staff to meet the needs of our guests. The presentation of the food was beautiful and it tasted wonderful. There was a nice variety of choices on the menu and the price was reasonable. Even our vegan guest was paid special attention and separate items were prepared for him. The only glitch was that we did not want any significant amount of time between the arrival of the wedding party at the venue and entrance into the ballroom via the grand staircase. However, this did not seem to be communicated to the event manager, who was busy getting everything set up. We waited about 25 minutes for everything to be set. After that, we had a wonderful time! Guests gave us many compliments!

I am only reviewing because I don't want another bride and groom to experience the service that my family experienced.
I attended a walk through of the property where the owner described what would be included in hosting a wedding here. What Mr. John promised and what was received weren't the same. We were told that tablecloths would be placed on the tables outside of the reception hall and the tables were to accommodate our smoking guests. No tablecloths were placed on the tables. Lovely candles were to be placed on the tables, but Mr. John forbid them claiming that using them was a fire hazard. Never once in our dealings with him did he stipulate candles couldn't be used. So, just imagine your first impression walking up to the reception hall seeing plain tables with the Quail Farm's ashtray centerpieces. Parking attendants were to be on the premises to direct parking. The attendant arrived late and staff then repeatedly went into the Music Room to harshly & rudely announce that guests needed to move their vehicles. Mr. John even held up the wedding while the bridal party was standing outside (as he directed) in the heat until all guests complied. We were told that the staff would light the candles along the upstairs railings. They did not. All serving items were to be supplied, but they served wedding cake on the wedding napkins until a family member intervened. Tacky, indeed! My husband witnessed the staff stealing wedding favors. The grass wasn't trimmed. The Music Room was in disrepair with the mirror being filthy. Mr. John insisted on only one rehearsal walk through. We had to plead for lights be turned on in bathrooms before the ceremony. No air conditioning supplied until the very last minute. But, the worst thing was that John constantly hounded the two families for gratuities before services were completely rendered. This place has such great potential with tender, love and care. I'm sorry I had to write such a terrible; yet, truthful review.

The quail farm I want for my sisters wedding July 2016 as you drive into the property very high uncut grass walking in to the ballroom you can smell the mold from a leaking roof the owner Mr. John very rude harassing me and other guest and family members follows you room to room . Mr. John harassed my sister before her wedding for his gratuity . Unfortunately it was a very bad experience for my sister the bride and it's a shame because this could be a very nice venue with new management !

I don't even know where to begin. The owner/ manager John is by far the worst!! His customer service skills are horrible! He is very dictating and ugly. He yelled at many of the guest including the groom to be. He is very unprofessional! This place itself has potential but it smells moldy and the buildings could use a good pressure washing. There is no lighting in the parking lot for the guest at night. There are lights but do not work. The dimmer switch for the lights was broken. My biggest complaint is John the owner. Just a very unfriendly man!

My overall experience with the owner Mr. John left me feeling bullied and verbally& mentally abused.. Open our initially interview he promised things but once completely paid changed everything. He nagged me a month and half before my wedding for gratuity. He gave several reasons why I needed to do it before the event. He called me and asked me everytime he seen me for gratuity. The night of my rehearsal he told my DJ to leave they were not needed there and was rude to one of my bridesmaid's.. . My now husband complained that there wasn't any AC on the night of the rehearsal and was told by Mr. John that it is to expensive to run the AC but all would be cool the night of. The night of the wedding we were not allowed to get there till 5:30 for our 7 pm wedding. As I walked in he was harassing my DJ about when they were supposed to playing music from what time to what time. I walk into the bridal suite and it was so hot and humid I starting having an asthma attack. i asked him to turm on the AC..He immediately started nagging my daughter in law for the gratuity. He asked 6 times before 6 pm. Because of his nagging and the bridal and groom suite be so hot I decided to cut the gratuity.. my daughter in law gave it to him and he told her i was obnoxious and he has bent over backwards for me, that i am the only one complaining that it is hot. he told her he was going to go in there and let me know how rude and ridiculous I was. My daughter in law was so shaken up and almost in tears. my daughter told Mr. John to stop he is ruining my night., He ran over and got 2inches of her face yelling at her. I feared that he was going to lay his hands on her. When I stepped in between them he started yelling at me so I called for my husband and Mr. John took off. He later apologized to my daughter and asked her to ask me to reconsider my gratuity amount. Food sub par: crawfish beggars purse was meat. I had someone that does not eat meat bite into it to find out no crawfish.

My complaints: There were no lights at the entrance of the property to guide people in. Mulitple lights along the driveway were out, when I asked the owner his response was "all the lights that work are on". The whole place needed to be pressured washed. There was green algae growing on the rails, the decks and walkways. Specifically the walkway from upstairs to the "Music Room" where the bridal party had to walk was not only green but the wood was soft in places. There is rotted wood on the ceiling of the music room with a piece dangling. He didn't turn on the A/C in that room until we arrived. This was where the pictures were being taken and also where the bridal party had to line up for the wedding procession. The floor is also rotted in places. Also because the air was off and with the rot, the room and esp. the bathrooms smelled strongly of mold.
Some if not all of the toilets were not working. The water pressure to wash hands was minimal. I had to use a bottle of water left behing by someone to get the soap off.
FOOD:I will just say that it would be hard to believe that it was prepared by an actual chef. It could have been and probably was frozen and just heated for the event.
There was supposed to be daiquiris , a carving station and a "cooking display of French crepes. I didn't see any of these.
The owner was outside hosing the patio during the reception. Later towards the end he was lounging with another man, both in jeans and white t-shirts, on the patio where the guests were. It was unprofessional.
I had to insist to the staff that they pack up the remaining food as that was another promise made by John at our initial meeting.
I could go on but hopefully the picture is clear. Mr John D'Hemecort promises the moon until he gets the check then he is rude, uncomprising and disrespectful. This place could be truly something but as it stands it's just a run down place with an uncaring owner.
