You get what you pay for

This venue was a great space and very convenient being so close to Sioux Falls and lots of hotels. The price point was perfect for the space. My only complaints was that our coordinator was switched three times (first the owner, then an event coordinator, then the owner's wife) with little communication. When with the event coordinator we asked specifically about our DJ bringing a hazer for the dance and were told it was fine according to the contract (and i have the emails to prove this). Then the owner came up to the DJ in the middle of the dance and said it wasn't allowed under the fire code! So the communication aspect wasn't great. I heard from several guests afterwards that the Bar staff were extremely rude (and I had experienced this myself at a friends wedding at their second location) - so that was very disappointing, as my primary goal was to have my guests enjoy themselves!
ALL THIS TO SAY....it was still a wonderful event and a great place to have it in - I would just be aware of what you are dealing with and make sure you get things in writing from the owner for anything out of the ordinary!

Extremely Unprofessional

I was considering this facility for a wedding reception and had talked to Melissa, all seemed great, the photos online looked great. My wedding planner called me and said there were 3 people in line for my date and so Melissa was sending me a contract to sign and invoice for half the cost, and I needed to sign and pay within 24 hours or I would lose the date. I didn’t have time to see the venue in person prior to signing. I paid and signed.
The first 2 people I told that I had booked that venue told me that they had been to a wedding there and it was not a well kept or updated venue when they saw it. I then went to an open house and saw the space for myself. I had to use the restroom when I first got there and honestly felt like I was using the restroom at a gas station in Belvedere, SD. (No offense - but if you have been there, you know.). I then went out and looked at the venue. The carpet in the bridal suite was loose and all bunched up by the doorway when you walked in. The whole Facility didn’t appear to have been updated in years. I only peaked in the kitchen, but it was very small and appeared dirty, which I found odd for an open house. I decided that the location would not work for us. Based on these reasons and several other things I noted at the open house, including staff interactions with other guests and the general disrepair of the building. I found another venue and called Melissa to cancel and ask if there was any possibility of receiving a partial refund of my down payment (half of the full cost of renting venue) if they were able to rebook. Melissa said no, and immediately seemed to become very defensive and aggressively told me that we had a contact that was legally binding. My tone had been kind, polite and not at all aggressive. I then told her that I didn’t want to offend her but I wanted to let her know why I felt the venue wouldn’t work for us. (As a business owner myself I always want the feedback to know what people are thinking.). As I calmly outlined what I described above, she started yelling over me. Stating amongst other things that the bathrooms were remodeled in 2017 and no one has EVER told them that the venue was anything other than top notch - the other 1 star reviews here contradict that. I finally hung up on her as she had elevated to screaming in my ear.
This for me went from, “This is not a venue I would use for a wedding.” To not being willing to recommend it for anyone due to the extremely unprofessional response from Melissa.
After posting this on google reviews- Melissa sent her “flying monkeys” to attack me, creating as much drama as she can. Flat out lied not only in her response on that app but also calling people and telling them I was saying things I didn’t say. She has moved from unprofessional to absolutely unhinged

Don't do it

A year has passed since my experience at Prairie View Event Hall, and writing this review remains one of the saddest tasks I've undertaken. I feel compelled to share my honest feedback, though it pains me to do so.

First and foremost, the lack of professionalism and communication from the event coordinator was deeply disappointing. We initially received the wrong event date, which forced us to pay extra to correct the mistake. This miscommunication was stressful and unnecessary.

During the two days of our wedding, the event coordinator's behavior was far from what one would expect in the industry. On the day of my wedding, she was dressed in sweatpants and appeared quite sloppy, which did not reflect the level of professionalism I had hoped for.

Furthermore, we encountered several issues during our event that were not adequately addressed. The fence, which was part of our initial booking, was missing, and the floor was in poor condition. When we requested to put down vinyl to improve the appearance of the floor, we were met with resistance and rudeness.

One of the most frustrating aspects of our experience was the claim of having a "full-service kitchen." Despite this claim, the event coordinator made it incredibly difficult for my family, who was catering the meal, to use basic amenities. Her attitude toward my family, including her refusal to let them use water, was completely unprofessional.

I also want to note that this venue does not appear to be multicultural couple-friendly, which is unfortunate. Many halls in the Sioux Falls/Sioux City area do not allow for outside catering, and it's disappointing that Prairie View Event Hall, while allowing outside catering, made it so challenging for our family to provide the meal we wanted.

Additionally, I couldn't help but feel that the event coordinator's behavior seemed biased and unprofessional. Her interactions with us raised concerns about possible discrimination.

What truly hurt my experience was the incident involving my decorator. Staff or the event coordinator called the police on my decorator while they were at the venue to collect their items. This incident upset my decorator so much that they have decided not to return to Sioux Falls to provide their services again. It's disheartening to think that a negative experience at this venue could have such a lasting impact on a professional.

As if these issues weren't enough, when we were leaving at the end of the weekend, the event coordinator didn't even leave the lights on for us to safely collect our items.

Additionally, to our dismay, the event coordinator posted photos of our wedding on social media websites without our permission, violating our privacy.

It's worth noting that, interestingly, we no longer have the ability to review her page as she has removed that option. We've also heard from several other couples who indicated that she was discriminatory and mean to multicultural couples.

Over all, I cannot in good conscience recommend this venue to anyone, which is truly unfortunate. I hope my feedback can help others make more informed decisions when considering their event venue.
