About
"There is no passion to be found playing small—in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living."
—Nelson Mandela
Art took ahold of me at a very early age. Even as a young girl, I was always drawn to artsier activities. In school, I gravitated toward classes that allowed me to be free flowing and creative. I cultivated my inner artist in drawing and painting classes, graphic design courses, and ceramics. But it wasn't until I took my first photography course in high school that my heart felt at home and I knew where my passion lies. I immediately knew that art was going to be my life's purpose and eagerly applied to—and was accepted—to two art schools for drawing, but deep down inside, my gut was telling me that drawing wasn't the strength of my talents. When I looked at my very first photograph—a building that I shot to look like it was in 3D (so much so that you'd want to reach out and touch it)—I knew I didn't want to spend my time drawing art when I preferred to capture it through the lens. However, taking pictures for a living never occurred to me as a profession, and I went on with my life.
"Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still."
—Dorothea Lange
As the years went by, I became a wife and mother. Never once did my love of photography fade. I even used my daughter as my muse and model, documenting her every change through the years. Casually showing those photos to friends and family prompted requests after requests for me to take their family portraits! After many wonderful weddings, family and high school senior portraits, pet photos, and newborn baby reveal portraits, I decided to step out on faith and make my passion for photography my career. The relationships I have built with clients over the years, capturing fun, beautiful, and memorable photos gave me the confidence to walk in my truth and pursue my dreams.
I earned my certification while working in one of the highest quality photo studios in the industry, and supplemented my informal education with a formal one by taking college-level classes, you know, "just in case I was missing anything." To my surprise, I saw that some things just cannot be taught. You either have the "eye" or you don't. In 2006, Lasting Impression Photography, or L.I.P. Rikki, LLC, was born!
"The more people explore the world, the more they realize in every country there's a different aesthetic. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder."
—Helena Christensen
I am expanding my portfolio by combining my love of photography with my love of travel. As a budding scenic photographer, it's my life's goal to travel to all 50 states (I'm halfway there!) and capture the beauty and richness found in the various regions of our country. My recent trip to Iceland was a spiritual awakening and gave me some of the best images in my career.
My future goals include having one of my prints displayed in a gallery and eventually having my own show, as any photographer would like to have.
I like to take my art "on the road." I do all of my work on location. Doing so allows me to be completely original and gives each of my clients a unique experience. Please allow me to capture the memorable moments in your life. ~ Rikki
As much joy and peace this career gives me, it is always my ultimate joy, "capturing beauty through the eyes of God".
