What is the story behind Hotel 1829?
Located in St Thomas, Virgin Islands, Hotel 1829 is an iconic property in the heart of Charlotte Amalie, described by many of our guests as a Caribbean Castle. Built in 1829, it first became a hotel, bar, and restaurant in 1906. Recently renovated in 2025, it has a full event space for up to 125 guests, a full bar, and a restaurant/catering menu. Given that we do all of the menu development and preparation in-house, we are able to accommodate a custom menu for most events. Our event staff is able to offer the services of florists, officiants, planners, DJs, live musicians, and even local cultural dancers, fire dancers, and other island favorites! We can offer guest rooms at a discounted rate, and we even have a villa next door that can house 10 additional guests, and two cottages that can house another 11. Heather was our point of contact. She conicated with us from the beginning. Their team was flexible with our arrangements. A signature cocktail (An Old Fashion Commitment) was mixed for the party by Nick and it was delicious. Tiimng was perfect, the food was superbly prepared and served. My wife and I highly recommend 1829. You will be absolutley thrilled with staff, the setting and the food and beverage.
