Loved working with Derek! I have already recommended him to a few friends still looking for their wedding photogs. So far I have seen our engagement pictures and they were amazing. I cannot wait to see our wedding photos!

From the start, Derek was nothing but thorough, professional and focused on pleasing my husband and I. He is so easy to work with and talk to. Not once did we feel awkward during our engagement session, preparing for the wedding or during our ceremony and reception. He did everything in his power to ensure he got the shots we wanted. His creativity speaks for itself and it gave me peace of mind knowing that he would deliver amazing results. I recommend Derek to anyone who wants a photographer that will capture every moment of your special day while go above and beyond to build a personal relationship with you. We had a great experience with Derek Shane. He met us in person before we signed our contract just to get to know us and find out what we wanted out of our photos. He also included an engagement session and allowed our 1 year-old to be in the photos with us, which I thought was a cute touch. He is very friendly and actually helped me out a lot on the wedding day as far as keeping on schedule and giving me advice. Our wedding party loved him!

My husband and I were married on April 28, 2012. We absolutely loved our pictures. We had a magical day and would not change a thing. Derek was great leading up to the wedding and on that day. On our wedding day we received our engagement album that was done in August. This was the first sign that he was not very quick to get your pictures to you. I cannot complain about the service we received on our wedding day. He as well as the videographer were there the whole day and captured amazing moments. We paid for a wedding album and to this day Jan. 26, 2014 we do not have it yet!!!!! The problem is that once our wedding was over we had a very hard time reaching Derek. He sends me texts and emails stating that he has or will send a preview for us to approve of our album and this never happens. Now it is to the point that he does not even respond to texts, calls, emails etc... I just want my wedding album and want to put his business behind me. I want to only have happy memories of my wedding and we cannot even pull out our album to remember the day. We celebrated our first anniversary with no album, after I begged him to get it to us so we would have it to share with our families and between us. I am very disappointed in his professionalism. He is talented and we just want to have our memories. By the way my brother got married in April 2013 and he had his pictures within 2 months. I am happy for him but really get frustrated to see his pictures when I still don't have mine and we married a year earlier. Obviously, my brother did not choose Derek Shane. Please give us our album!!!

Although Derek is an excellent photographer he is a very poor businessman. He requires payment in advance but then has difficulty delivering what you have purchased. It has been 10 months since the wedding and we still do not have the final albums.

Derek Shane takes good pictures. His communication skills are AWFUL! It took over 4 weeks to our engagement pictures back from our FREE session (he told us it would be 2 MAYBE 3 weeks). The session was free but the photos were extremely expensive. It was $600 for 25 or 26 pictures. We were not informed of the pricing for the pictures of the engagement session up front and we only paid $600 because my husband negotiated it down to that price (it started closer to $1000 for those 26 pics).
It is $800 to purchase the rights to your wedding photos yet he still puts your pics on the "pictage" website and tries to sell the pics to all your guest for extremely high rates. Overall, we spent almost $3400 for Derek Shane Fotos. When we spend that kind of money we expect prompt responses and communication. We expect the vendor be on time, do what we ask and fulfill their side of the contract. This did not happen with Derek Shane Fotos. On March 29, 2013 Derek stated he would call me the following week to discuss details. I wrote him 19 days prior to the wedding and gave him an itinerary that gave him specifics of when to arrive and exactly what pictures I wanted. He received this email because he NEVER call me like he said he would. 7 Days prior to the wedding I still had not heard from him so I sent another follow up email. After 48 hours I still had not received a response my husband contacted him and told him to call me. He finally called me and I went over the itinerary again with him. He said it looked good and had no issues fulfilling my request. The day before the wedding Derek texts messages me telling me he is not planning to arrive until 1:30pm because there is no need for him to be there any earlier!! Yet he agreed verbally over the phone to be there at 11:30 as the itinerary stated! He continued to try and haggle me into allowing him to come when he felt like it and I told him no he must be there by 12pm on the wedding day. PM me for more details!

I hired Derek to do my wedding and I have to say that I was extremely disappointed. I have never written a negative review but I do not want any other brides having the experience I had with this photographer.

Derek is a fun guy with a great personality who knows how to take a good picture. However, I was less than impressed at the amount of unprofessional behavior he showed. I had to call and text numerous times to get a hold of him, he arrived 20 minutes later than he said he would on my wedding day, I never got my engagement pictures taken due to the fact that he would never return texts or calls about doing them, he made several comments towards my bridesmaids that made them feel uncomfortable, he missed several crucial takes such as the bouquet toss, he asked one of my guests (female I might add) for her number at the reception, he went to the hotel after the reception to "party" with my guests and was then asked to leave. Lastly, it took 3 months to see any of the pictures he took and another 2 months to get what I ordered. He spent those 3 months telling me it would be one more week.

Hiring Derek Shane Fotos is the only part of my wedding I regret. To those looking to hire him especially the brides-to-be, keep looking. There is no excuse for any of this behavior Derek exhibited and the stress with working with an unprofessional, insincere, and careless photographer is simply not worth it.
