FLIGHTS
International flights to Ankara can be more expensive than flights to Istanbul. That's why we recommend flying to Istanbul first (but do check Ankara, too!)
There are two airports in Istanbul: Ataturk International (European side), and Sabiha Gokcen (Asian side.) Most international flights arrive in Ataturk. Domestic commuter flights from both airports leave hourly to Ankara, and (if purchased well in advance) run about $40-100 USD.
For international flights, we've found good discounts here and here.
You can buy your internal flight here.
BUS & TRAIN
Alternately, you can take a luxury bus from Istanbul to Ankara for about $15 USD. There are several bus companies, but we recommend Varan. The bus ride lasts about 5 1/2 hours, and provides beverage service, a pit stop at a great cafeteria, as well as wireless internet. You can book online at Varan's website here.
And finally, taking a train is another option, although a bit more expensive and actually slower than the bus. Click here for more information.
