    Seamstress extraordinaire!

Marie worked her magic on my wedding dress. With one look, she knew exactly what needed to be done: straps shortened, take it in on the sides, add boning and a bustle. The result was nothing short of perfection and my dress fit like a glove!

I enjoyed my time at Marie's studio. She's funny, bubbly, and (best of all) knows her craft.

I brought my dress into WestCoastCouture for a bustle. You can tell that Marie is very passionate about her trade - she greeted me warmly, taught me all about the particular material my dress is made of, and showed me different bustles that would work well with the material and shape of the skirt. At her recommendation, I ended up choosing a multi-point bustle. To my surprise, when I picked up the dress, Marie had made it so I could bustle the dress in two different styles - both French and English! In addition, she helped me affix a part of the embellishment on the skirt of the dress that was coming off. I could not recommend WestCoastCouture highly enough.

I had a great experience at West Coast Couture. Not only did they make me feel incredibly welcome and beautiful, Marie and her assistant make my dress fit perfectly. And for a very reasonable price. I almost wish I had more wedding dresses so I could take them all here! Mare was everything I could have hoped for in a seamstress: highly skilled and with a great laid-back personality.

I am going to keep this short and sweet, just like my appointments at West Coast Couture. Marie is the best and going to her for your wedding gown adjustments will be one of the best decisions you make. She is excellent at her craft and her prices are extremely reasonable. She gets you in and out because she knows you are a busy bride and you have a lot to do. GO SEE MARIE!

Marie did an awesome job on all my VERY last minute alterations for my wedding dress. I got my dress from Katie May in downtown LA, and although I loved my dress, they do not do any alterations so they referred me to Marie. Even though I live down in San Diego, I really wanted to go to the place that my dressmaker recommended (West Coast Couture).

Marie and Carston were awesome and were very accommodating. They even opened their store on one of their closed days just to help me out. I offered to pay them more for "rush service" and I was quickly told not to worry about it and that accepting extra money for rushed work would be "bad karma." Wow! So impressed with them.

I also purchased a cathedral length veil from them for $75! I saw (no joke) the exact same veil in a boutique in Orange County for over $300. Such a great value. I cannot imagine spending $300+ on a veil that you wear for just the ceremony and pictures.

Overall, I highly recommend Marie. I think I really got lucky with them being able to fit me in last minute for alterations for my destination wedding. Her phone was ringing off the hook and many people just stopped in with no appointments. This isn't that kind of place. Call first to make an appointment (preferably sooner rather than later) and you will be pleased!

I cannot tell you how much I love and appreciate this place. Marie is amazing and runs her shop seamlessly. I was comfortable the minute I walked in and did not hesitate leaving my dress with her for even a second. I knew it was in great hands. The BEST!!!! My dress came out perfectly! She has an eye for both fit and detail and can explain things in layman's terms. This is THE place for wedding dress...

I went to see Marie on the recommendation of The White Dress, where I purchased my dress. Marie is a total rockstar! I bought my dress off the rack at a sample sale, and tons of alterations were necessary to make it fit. My dress was textured and very detailed at the bottom, and I had been told by the sales person that the alterations would probably cost over $1,000. Marie worked her magic and was able to rework my wedding dress, and my dress I wore the night before, for less than a third of that. Not to mention, she's super friendly and outgoing and makes you instantly feel like a friend. She's awesome at what she does and I highly recommend her!

Marie altered my wedding dress and this girl is GOOD. Right from the beginning I could tell she got it. I was worried that I'd be explaining what I didn't like about my dress and be met with confused looks, but she knew exactly what I was talking about, and she fixed in just a week. I had procrastinated and came in with only 2 weeks till my wedding, but she rushed it and really came through. The dress looked fabulous, I got tons of compliments, and I loved my dress after she fixed it. She has a great sense of style and how things should fit and she made my dress so much more flattering on me. I recommend her 100%!

If I could give her 500 stars for value and quality, I would. Marie was absolutely wonderful.

I just needed a couple of minor alterations to my dress I bought at a Brides Against Breast Cancer sale, and found Marie on Yelp. When I called, she talked me through her process and answered my questions about getting my dress to my wedding location (Colorado), cleaning, pressing, and so on. She probably spent 20 minutes on the phone with me and really allayed some of my fears. I was relieved to have found her, but worried a bit that I'd be spending a lot, given her excellent customer service skills.

When I went in a few weeks later, I put on the dress, she gave me some advice about fit, talked me through the options for bustling. We decided to take the bodice in a bit, and add 3 bustles, and that was it. $95! I couldn't believe it. I was so afraid that my alterations would be hundreds of dollars. Granted, my dress is very simple, but still. So relieved.

Yesterday I came in for my final fitting, and Marie was again wonderful. The dress was perfect, the bustle could not be more straightforward (she uses color coded ribbon! Genius!), and she gave me more money-saving good news-- she didn't think I would need to get my dress cleaned before the wedding after all.

Anyway, I just can't recommend Marie more highly. Especially for me, with my mom and MOH far away, it was really helpful to have a tailor I trust. She made something I was really dreading into a great experience.

Marie Nelson is the owner and she is amazing. She gets a lot of business from Nicole Miller and has been doing bridal gown alterations for over 20 years. My wedding dress had to be taken in the chest area, hemmed and bustled. She tells you exactly what she will do to your dress and gives you an informed, logical explanation for what she's going to do. She does clean, professional work and will get the work done in the time she promised. She doesn't tack on any additional charges, whatever she quotes you initially is what you will pay, period. Her prices are reasonable for the timeliness and quality!

Make sure you book her in advance and show up on time, as she has many customers coming to see her. The four times I've seen her she always has a customer coming in or out! There's plenty of metered parking on Motor Avenue.

Marie Nelson is an absolute angel! I was really nervous about getting the lace in my mom's dress altered- I had been dreaming about wearing it since I was a little girl. She did a fabulous job and made me feel so comfortable the entire time! I never once was nervous, and she took great care with the dress. Marie became more of a friend throughout the process, and you can tell she takes great pride in her work. Marie also designed my wedding veil- she makes amazing veils, I love how she designs them to not "pouf" out like other veils do. She really listens to what you are wanting and the results are outstanding!

Marie was SO AMAZING - as a person and a seamstress!!!

I found West Coast Couture on Yelp! and am SO glad I did. Instead of getting a wedding dress from a wedding boutique, I decided I wanted to use my mom's dress but basically recreate it for me (it fit but TOTALLY wasn't my style). Marie has an amazing attitude and is incredibly talented and committed to doing things right. She made the dress something perfect. She maintained the integrity of my mom's dress and added so much more. I could never have described what I wanted because I didn't know. But we worked together and she seemed to just know what would work. And the finished product was so perfect and beautiful I couldn't have been happier.

Her prices were so reasonable I thought it was a mistake. I figured wedding dress anything would be outrageously expensive. But Marie was so reasonable I almost thought it was a mistake! But for what I got (for what she did) I would have paid a million dollars (not really...I don't have it...but if I did, I'd have given it to her!). I couldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding dress.

(Four stars because there were a few times in the process when she said the dress would be ready but it wasn't...if I were more bridezilla-y, I might have freaked out. I think it was just a time in her business when she got really busy and overwhelmed but she got it done in time and the results were amazing!)

Did a great job with my dress (altered size down and added some shape) and veil (altered my mother's veil). Great personality.

STAY AWAY from Marie! She's absolutely out of her mind and will add unnecessary stress to you. She forgot my appointment, demeaned me for coming in for my appointment (a 5 hour drive nonetheless,) and mocked me. She kept saying how I just waltzed in and took the time away from brides who scheduled appointments. Except I DID schedule one, I would never drive OUT OF STATE on a whim that maybe she'll take a walk in. We had multiple phone conversations, set up the time for saturday at 4.

She made sure to let it be known I was unwelcome there. When I finally left in shock, I was outside her shop telling my family what happened. Marie CHASED ME DOWN and yelled at me, outside, in public, demanding an apology for me talking down about her. She THREW my dress back at me after ripping out the pins.

It was the most horrific, confusing, hilariously unbelievable meltdowns I have EVER witnessed. How she gets these ratings I was so attracted to, I don't know. But Marie is the only person I have ever took the time out of my day to write such a negative review on.

By all means, go check this crazy lady out for fun. But never let her work with your dress!!

I cannot recommend Marie Nelson for wedding dress alterations. When I first brought my dress in, I found her to be rushed and frazzled. I thought my dress only needed to be hemmed, but when Marie hastily examined me in the dress she suggested it first be taken in a bit. I said fine, because she is the expert seamstress. When I came back to try on my dress, I found that it had been taken in too much - it was far too tight and was puckering on the front and sides in places it hadn't before. When I pointed this out to Marie, she started loudly and rudely denying that the problems had anything to do with her work, and demanded to see pictures of the dress before the alterations. I found a picture on my phone from before with, of course, no puckering. Yet she continued to escalate the situation by threatening me, making excuses and saying I had "bad energy" and that she didn't like me. At one point, she even said that I was being watched on a surveillance camera. Every time I tried to get a word in edgewise, she would interrupt me and continue yelling and insulting me. In the moment, I was just kind of shocked and couldn't believe what was happening, especially considering that there were other customers present.
After telling me again that she didn't like me, she said she would fix the dress, but at that point I had had enough. Why deal with further drama and abuse? I took my dress to a different seamstress, who confirmed that the dress had indeed been taken in too much, and that the puckering was a result of that. After the new seamstress fixed it, the puckering was gone. I'm sure Marie is talented and has done a lot of great work for other brides, as evidenced by her good reviews, but I just wanted to share my experience so others wouldn't, like me, end up paying for a poorly-altered dress (and a boatload of drama) just weeks before the wedding. I suggest to future brides that you save yourself the potential hassle and drama and go somewhere else from the start.
