We are so glad that we chose to have our wedding at the Umlauf. Amanda was such a pleasure to work with and was prompt, professional, and kind in all of our meetings and conversations. The venue itself is gorgeous and has so many fun features that made for some very unique and beautiful wedding photos. The sculptures and greenery are so vibrant in the spring that we honestly didn't feel we had to do much more dressing up of the venue ourselves! The Umlauf was extremely easy to work with and did everything to make sure the day ran smoothly and that we had a great time and could just focus on having fun on our wedding day instead of worrying about the set up or take down. Our guests loved exploring the venue during the cocktail hour and reception, too. It was the perfect location for our 100-person wedding! Also, a random side-note that you may get lucky and be visited by some gorgeous wildlife during your wedding! Herons are my favorite birds, and two showed up during our reception in a show-stopping appearance that had everyone excited!(Photos by Leah Muse Photography!) -

From the moment we stepped into UMLAUF, we knew it was more than a venue—it felt like a living work of art. Surrounded by lush gardens, timeless sculptures, and peaceful natural beauty, it created the exact feeling we wanted for our wedding day: romantic, intentional, and unforgettable.
Our wedding vision centered around the phrase “Where love grows, life blooms,” and there could not have been a more perfect place to bring that story to life. Every pathway, sculpture, and garden space felt like part of our love story. The venue itself is already so naturally breathtaking that it creates an atmosphere that feels effortlessly elegant and deeply meaningful.
What made our experience even more special was the incredible staff. From the very first time I met the team in November and throughout our entire wedding journey, they have been nothing short of professional, experienced, kind, caring, and genuinely invested in making our experience feel special. Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but from day one they made us feel supported, welcomed, and cared for every step of the way.
Their team brought such warmth and expertise to the process. Every question was answered thoughtfully, every interaction felt personal, and their guidance created a sense of ease and confidence during such an important season of our lives. You can tell they truly love what they do and deeply care about the couples they work with.
What makes UMLAUF so special is how beautifully it blends nature, art, and intimacy together. It feels like a hidden oasis in the heart of Austin and gave our guests an experience that felt both serene and magical. Family and friends are still talking about how unique and breathtaking it was.

We absolutely fell in love with Umlauf Sculpture Garden the moment we saw it, and it ended up being the perfect venue for our wedding this past Friday 3/27/2026. The setting is special, surrounded by beautiful sculptures, lush greenery, ponds, waterfalls, string lights— it’s a hidden gem right in Austin. So many of our guests commented on how unique and “Austin” it felt.
Farwah and Kristen were incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. As we opted to forego a planner, I had plenty of detailed questions over the 10 months leading up to the wedding. They were always quick to respond and provide detailed guidance.
That said, it’s important to know that this isn’t a traditional, all-inclusive wedding venue. There are logistical considerations like parking, noise ordinances, the fact that it’s a working museum… We chose to work with preferred caterers and rentals since the museum is open to the public until 4pm and vendors can’t set up earlier. We also chose to get ready offsite. Planning ahead and considering logistics for your day is key, and note that there isn’t an indoor ceremony or reception space— account for tents & climate control in your budget.
For us, it was absolutely worth it! It was the perfect size for our ~60 guests and created such an intimate, memorable atmosphere on the terrace and side lawn. The ceremony arbor is just beautiful. We wouldn’t have changed a thing! It felt so “us” and our guests absolutely loved it. Got gorgeous photos. We live nearby and came by the day after just to stroll around and enjoy the sculptures (you get an annual membership if you get married here, super cool!). And we love that we can just walk on over anytime now and continue to visit & enjoy the place we got married :) looking forward to more of the rotating art and museum events to come.

Umlauf was a beautiful location to host our wedding. Each venue has its own peculiarities and pros and cons, so make sure you understand them before you book (the garden is open to the public during the day and going late at Umlauf is not an option, as amplified sound must be turned off at 10 PM per Austin city ordinance). You’d probably want to go with mostly preferred vendors, which is what we did. That being said, we had a wonderful experience at Umlauf. Office staff were great to work with (Amanda was always very helpful and responsive). We fit our wedding of about 50 people underneath the pagoda for dinner which was the perfect setting. The garden was pretty remarkable for our ceremony. And despite that ordinance, we were still able to host a great dance party for our guests. We highly recommend Umlauf. -

Amanda was amazing! Very quick to response and answer any questions we had, as well as accommodating! We were hoping to have a sunny day to be able to fully enjoy the garden, but the freezing weather and rain kicked in. The garden was still absolutely magical in the rain and I can’t wait to see our photos from the photographer! We had our reception under the terrace with a few heaters and it was still very comfortable. We were so thankful the Gallery was available to rent, as well! -

UMLAUF was hands down the most beautiful wedding location. Our guest raved at how perfect the garden was and how unique the sculptures were. Amanda, the venue coordinator, was extremely responsive and very helpful. I could not have imagined a more perfect spot for our wedding! -
Rachel Sent on 04/04/2018We loved having our wedding at Umlauf. It's a unique venue that you can personalize and make your own. The different levels and spaces made it feel really special. It also provides a drop-dead gorgeous back-drop for photos--the green is amazing.
Worth noting that I was worried about the wedding feeling short bc of the band having to stop at 10pm, but I was totally wrong to worry about that--the length felt perfect. I think it's the case for any outdoor venue in-town, and we were really glad to be in town. The ceremony was at 6pm but guests started arriving at 5 or 5:15. We had cava served while they strolled the garden. We didn't do a format exit so we hung around a bit after the music stopped--which was fun. We sent our guests to Easy Tiger, and arrived there ourselves by 10:45 or so to an awesome after-party. We didn't have a reservation but there was room for party to fill many tables.
One more tip: use the chairs they offer. A great source of savings--that looked great! -

My fiance and I had our wedding at UMLAUF in June 2023. It’s a very special and naturally beautiful space, and I would highly recommend checking it out if art and gardens/parks/natural spaces are your jam. Even when we did our venue tour in February 2022 when it was 30 degrees Fahrenheit and it looked more gray than green, we knew it was “the one.”
The size and layout were perfect for our ~60 guests. There was plenty of space for everyone to wander and explore with their cocktails, but it still felt intimate. I loved the variety of areas to work with and we were able to create several different spaces for people to hang. Lastly, I loved that it was in the heart of Austin to give our out-of-town guests a bit of authenticity (and easy access to plenty of great bars for an after party!).
This was such a fun venue to work with and dream about, and Amanda and Katlyn were so helpful and accommodating. Thank you, UMLAUF for making our day so magical!

My husband, Jordan, and I could not have been happier with how our wedding turned out at Umlauf. We went with Umlauf because we love visiting the garden and while being in the heart of Austin, you feel like you’ve been transported to a romantic and peaceful place removed from the hustle and bustle of the city (while still being so close). You don’t need to add much in decorations to have a truly beautiful wedding. Our guests (~100 in total) enjoyed the parking and the ambiance. Working with Amanda, the venue manager, was so easy and she was extremely helpful. Plus, their preferred vendor list is a shortlist of some of the best vendors you can go for in Austin! You do have to ensure you fit within their ordinances, but with the right planning and vendors that shouldn't be an issue. Booking at Umlauf means you will have a wonderful event and support a community/culture center while at it. Thanks to Umlauf, Amanda, and the whole team there for helping us have such a lovely evening. -

Annette Sent on 10/11/2011Umlauf was the perfect place for us to have our wedding. It is absolutely gorgeous. When I first went to look at the venue I was a little concerned about it being near a somewhat busy street. However, you cannot hear the traffic as it passes by. I made several trips out to Umlauf prior to the actual wedding and I never heard anything that would cause concern, and it was very quiet and peaceful during our wedding ceremony.
Joelle is great. I enjoyed working with her. She is very laid back and accommodating. She was always good about getting back to me in a timely manner. Whenever I went to Umlauf the staff and volunteers were always professional and very helpful.
Umlauf is a special place. It is tranquil and naturally beautiful. We chose not to do much decorating for this reason.
I would highly recommend Umlauf to any future couple for their wedding. -

Perfect outdoor venue for a romantic garden wedding in the heart of Austin. It is easy to get to, surrounded by fun things to do, and at night, with all of the lights, it is so beautiful. Highly recommend doing strung lights and a few twinkle lights wrapped around the trees for a very romantic, sophisticated feel. They were very helpful and supportive and you can rent tables and chairs directly from them relatively inexpensively. -

For our wedding, we wanted a simple and beautiful outdoor space. We must have visited over 20 venues; when we saw Umlauf, we both fell in love with its beauty, serene surroundings, and lush green gardens. We are so happy that we were able to get married at Umlauf. It is the perfect hidden gem in downtown Austin, and it fit our wedding party perfectly.
On our wedding day we woke up to a tornado warning and torrential downpour, so we decided for the safety of our guests to move our ceremony to the Fairmont Hotel. Umlauf was very understanding and flexible and allowed us to arrive at a later time to carry out our reception at Umlauf.
The on-site staff at Umlauf the night of our wedding was phenomenal. We worked with several coordinators during the planning process, and both Ally and Amanda were essential to our wedding's success! Thank y'all so much for helping us have the most wonderful wedding! -

I had my wedding at Umlauf Sculpture Garden on May 3, 2025. I cannot think of a more magical location for a venue. The whole day felt like a fairy tale because of the lush greenery, babbling brooks, and elegant sculptures.
Pros:
They let me visit as many times as I wanted
They answered no fewer than 200 of my emails
The coordinators were so sweet and easy to work with
The venue is gorgeous.
Some quick notes:
The event rental is only from 4 PM - Midnight, including load in and load out and the amplified sound has to be off my 10. This means extra charges for delivery timing, usually only about an hour and a half of dancing, and other specialized coordination. If you use their preferred vendors, then they can let them come in at 3:30. However, there was a lot of confusion on my wedding day and it set us 30 minutes behind the whole night, which is huge. Working with this venue can be a bit of an undertaking which I underestimated, so just something to note!
That all being said, I do not regret my decision to have my wedding here! It was a lovely night. -

Christina Sent on 09/12/2012I cannot imagine having gotten married anywhere else but certainly dealing with the Umlauf was always a trying process. They have so many rules. I understand it is a museum and they are trying to be faithful to that mission, but when they ask you to pay ~$4000 to rent the space you would think you could get them to, say, unlock a door you'll need or at least not act like you're being a nuisance. Joelle, the event coordinator, is a gem. She is super responsive and patient. Each of the docents and volunteers that we dealt with and those that were there the day of our event (Joelle was not) was downright rude. Also, your event must end very early due to city restrictions and it must start late due to museum restrictions. This can make for a stressful time when coordinating with vendors who have, at most, an hour or so to set everything up. (Do note that the Umlauf comes with at most a few tables and you must rent EVERYTHING.) Nonetheless, our pictures are amazing and we had the best day of our lives. The Umlauf is incredibly convenient to downtown and although parking can be tricky (I have no idea if it was for our guests but we encouraged everyone to take public transport and hired a shuttle from the hotel) we had the time of our lives! I would recommend the Umlauf to any couple who is OK with a challenge but who prioritizes scenery and location (very little decoration is required because it is so naturally beautiful). I would also recommend that you get a wedding planner to help with the minutiae of throwing an event here. I think the the Umlauf has only just become a popular wedding venue in the last few years and is having a bit of a crisis of identity. Perhaps some of the kinks will be ironed out as soon as they realize what an important source of income events are for them, and thus begin to prioritize those that so significantly fund their venture.
