Awesome! We heard Stax at my brothers wedding 3 years ago. Curt played almost all our requested songs and really kept the party going. We heard NUMEROUS remarks on the music. I highly recommend Stax for any event.
Heads up- they can come off as very opinionated, which was off putting, but I realized they just wanted the music to be top notch.

My husband and I live in Dallas but got married in Chicago Oct 24th. It was hard to plan a wedding out of state. I chose my vendors based on recommendations. I chose StaxOWax as my DJ. A DJ can make a break a wedding and that is not something you want to skimp on. Staxowax was worth everything they charged. They were very reasonably priced. (we actually had two dj's, one was an assistant) We had Shaun as our DJ and let me tell you he was absolutely awesome. They have all been very responsive and helpful throughout the process. They had a great site for picking all your music and organizing it.
They were very receptive and played music based on what I asked for and also they profiled the audience and played music based on the response from the guests. They also did my photo montage. They were so organized that I didnt have to worry about one thing the whole night. They led me through the whole process. I also asked my reception hall what they thought about Staxowax after I had hosen them and their response was "they are the best we have had". That sealed the deal for us!

My fiance and I got married this past Saturday evening and Curt Zimmerman from Stax O Wax was the DJ. I have only the best things to say about Curt and the wonderful job he did!
I tend to be fairly hard to please, and thus don't often offer high praise for services, but Curt from Stax O Wax was just terrific. Working with him was a breeze. The Stax O Wax website made it easy to submit a playlist of songs (even obscure, difficult-to-find selections) that were played at the wedding. In the run-up to the wedding, Curt was always extremely responsive to any questions or requests I had. He was professional and friendly the night of the wedding.
Curt played the songs my fiance and I had requested but also accommodated selections made by our wedding guests. He astutely read the mood of the guests and skillfully mixed fast and slow dance songs. And Curt was incredibly easy to work with regarding making announcements (e.g. gathering for a toast, first dance) to the guests when necessary.
My fiance and I couldn't have been more pleased with our selection of Stax O Wax for our wedding reception. I would certainly give Curt Zimmerman and Stax O Wax more than five stars if the reviewing system allowed me to do so. I most highly recommend Stax O Wax for individuals looking for a DJ for their wedding.

There really isn't anything to say except that this was the best choice we have made for our wedding!
My husband's sister told us about Stax O Wax and we are so lucky she did!
We were lucky enough to work with both Shawn and Curt during the planning process. These two bend over backwards to make sure your music is exactly what you want for your big day. The online form is great. They are definitely on top of their game. I was so into planning that I missed the deadline to submit my form, Shawn was on the phone with me the day it was due making sure everything was good to go.
We had requested a special first dance that required a lot of man hours to put a mix of songs together. This is what I mean by bending backwards. As busy as they are, they took the time to compile our first dance "megamix"...by the way, everyone loved it! And...we made the front page of their website! =0)
We went with the dinner show package and again...best decision! We had peope dancing and singing even before dinner started! I was told by one of my guests that the only bad thing about the dj was that they played all the good music during dinner so they couldn't dance. ;0) (that's the point...get your butt on the dancefloor!) In fact...both my husband and I catch ourselves doing a couple of their skits when we hear those songs.
Shawn and Nick were our personal djs and they were just awesome! We had huge problems with our photographer that night and Shawn noticed it right away and came over and talked with us...which really helped! I mean...who does that!?! Especially not a dj. They knew exactly what to play and what not to play to keep people on the dancefloor. They were a total hit and still to this day we have guests talking about how great the music was!
Shawn actually just called me earlier this week to see how everything was going. Asked how the honeymoon was and how we felt about their performance. Everyone at Stax O Wax has the biggest hearts and are just wonderful to work with. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever. We will definintely be repeat customers...hands down!

I was recommended to Stax-o-wax. I have to say it was a great recommendation. They were awesome. Shawn was the DJ for our wedding and he was very professional and kept everything on time. He would come by and tell us how long we had till the next thing. I was even complimented on how smoothly things went, and I'd have to give the credit to Shawn. I high reccomend them.

Just wanted to THANK YOU, so much for the GREAT job you did deejaying our ceremony and wedding this past saturday at the Brookfield Zoo! Many of our guests were so happy with the choices of music during dinner and dancing! A great variety that only improved as the night went on! Adam and I especially appreciated the perfection of the ceremony music from Prelude to Recessional! Your timing of songs and timing were outstanding and you helped us create the ceremony we wanted, with ease and experience! Some were skeptical of our ceremony music selections, but realized they were ideal for me and adam and made for a beautiful wedding indeed!
Many of our friends enjoyed the 80's dance tunes you packed together one after another, because when we all were younger we would go to a club in Milwaukee for 80's night and dance till the early morning hours. Many of those songs were played at the wedding and brought back many fun fun memories for us! Your personality, enthusiasm, insight and hard work will not be forgotten and we just truly appreciate all you helped us create and enjoy! The music selections made many many generations happy and everyone had a song or two, if not more they enjoyed dancing and singing along too, so thank you again and again!

When planning our wedding, we asked ourselves this question. Who's wedding did we attend that we just had a blast at? We thought back to friends of ours that got married 9 years ago! We called them right away, and were so happy that they were still in business. We also checked their reviews on numerous websites just to make sure they were still as awesome as they were then..and saw nothing but positive reviews. At our first meeting, we were a bit surprised at how much more expensive they were then other D.J's but then we asked ourselves..do we just want an OK wedding, or do we want a wedding that our guest are going to leave saying "That was an awesome wedding!" We wanted an awesome wedding, and music is the key to an awesome reception!!!!!! We booked them that day and went with the Classic Package, which includes 2 D.J's and a dinner show. IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY! During dinner, the bridal party hardly ate..we were all up at our tables dancing during dinner...who does that? That is how good these guys are!!!! They really got the crowd hyped up during dinner so when it was time to dance, everyone was dancing! The dance floor was filled all night, my husband and I barley left the dance floor! We had friends who got married a week before us and even though we suggested stax o wax, they did not book them because of the cost. After our wedding, they called us and said that they wished they would have listened to us and went with them, they had a great time at our wedding and couldn't believe how great the DJ's were!!!!! If you want an unforgettable event, book these guys, budget them in if they don't fit into your budget...you will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shawn and his assistant were on time (preventing more stress), fun and very energetic!!! They constantly checked to see if there was more they could do. Everyone said it was the best wedding they ever attended. One woman said to me that her husband always left the wedding right after dinner. The time she told me this, it was 5 minutes to close!!!!

I had a very small wedding with only 60 people, so I was afraid that my wedding wasn't going to be the big huge bash that I had gone to in the past for my friends who also used Stax O Wax. I couldn't be more wrong. From the very first time I met them, they made me feel like I was having a wedding for 300. It was so much fun talking with them and planning my wedding, I felt like part of the family. My reception was a huge success and I will never forget how special they made me feel.

Thank you so much! I can't say it enough. These guys are so much fun. I'm glad I listened to my hair dresser when she that I had to get these guys for my wedding. She had them for hers, and she sends all of her clients to Stax O Wax. They made everything so easy for me. Every time I emailed or called them, they got back to me right away. They played all of my requests, and my guests didn't want to leave. They were very attentive to all the details about my wedding. Everything ran so smoothly! I didn't have to worry at all. I am going to tell everyone I know about them. Thank you again for being a special part of my wedding.

Everything about Stax O Wax was absolutely perfect. They made planning and even attending my own reception the easiest part of my wedding. Shawn was so nice in dealing with any questions or special requests I had. Instead of taking care of my reception I got to participate and it was amazing. We added another hour to our reception because we were having SO much fun, we didn't want it to end!!

What can I say, absolutely wonderful to work with. Very helpful with all of the planning, great suggestions on the music for the ceremony and reception. NOTE THIS IS HOW MY REVIEW STARTED BEFORE THE WEDDING: Wow! These guys have definitely earned their 2009 Wedding Wire award for best DJs. This is one of the vendors that I would not compromise on--I wanted the best DJ/package my budget would allow. Their website may seem a bit outdated but it gets the job done (song selection, etc) and that's not what I am paying them for.
After the wedding notes:
They only allow you 10 must play songs.
We picked a package that was 6 hours and they would not give us a discount given our reception was only 5 hours.
They were using CDS only even though I was told they would have computers with internet access to pull up/download any songs.They were more than happy to point any and all blame at the bride and groom when people asked for a genre of music we said we didn't want.
On a positive note, our DJ was very accomodating when some drunken groomsmen missed the introductions and we had to totally rearrange the announcement order.
Not engaging with our guests at all. For the service he provided I would have been better off getting renting speakers, a wireless mic and hooking up an ipod. Very disappointed. For $1,000 package and the number 1 rated weddingwire DJ I expected a great deal more--

This was my one job that my wife gave me to do for our wedding, and I hit it out of the park with these guys. I saw them at my cousins wedding in Iowa, and thought that they did a great job. I asked my cousin who the djs were at their wedding and I was surprised to find out that they were from the Chicago area & not from the Quad Cities. I called them and told them that I really needed help with the music, and they seemed to happy to help.
Stax O Wax ended up playing for our ceremony, and reception and I would give them a 10 out of 10. A job well done! We also used them for the uplighting in our room. Talk about a cool effect! The room looked awesome during cocktails & dinner with slow changing solid colors, but when the dancing began, the room started to dance. The lights started changing colors with the music. The guys at Stax told me that I would really like the lights, but I really didn't expect the excitement that my guest got out of it. They kept telling me that it was so cool to watch the room come to life with the music.
Once again, I can't thank Stax O Wax enough for doing such a great job with our wedding. I will recommend them to everyone I know.
