We hired a solo violinist from Rittenhouse Strings for our church ceremony wedding at Old St. Mary's Church in December 2015 upon recommendation from the organist at OSM. The people at Rittenhouse Strings were so nice and helpful as we went through the planning process. Karen was our violinist on the wedding day and she sounded beautiful!

We loved working with the Rittenhouse string quartet for our October 2015 wedding. They were responsive and professional, and above all the music was excellent. They played prior to the ceremony, the processional/recessional, and during cocktail hour. We received so many compliments on how wonderful they were. We would highly recommend them to other couples looking for a string quartet for their wedding.

Two months before our wedding this year, we found ourselves without the live music that we had planned for during our cocktail hour and ceremony. After some desperate searching and worrying, we heard about Rittenhouse String Quartet through a friend and I am so glad we found them. After listening to some of their sample performances and talking with them, we were put completely at ease. They were professional, quick to respond, and completely reasonable with pricing and scheduling. We opted for the (maybe unusual) combination of two cellists, who ended up creating the perfect atmosphere for our event. I would absolutely recommend Rittenhouse String Quartet to anyone looking for classy and professional musical accompaniment.

We hired RSQ for our daughter's wedding and could not be more pleased. We chose them for value and their ability to play just about anything that can be play with a Quartet. We had three violins and one cello and it was the perfect sound for our daughter's garden wedding. They played prior to the ceremony and during the processional and recessional; as well as at the cocktail hour. RSQ was easy to work with and while their response would take a day or two; it was understood since they are usually very busy every weekend. I highly recommend them.

We used RHS for our ceremony and cocktail music and it was beautiful! We had lots of comments on how lovely the music was. It was very easy, I had a few requests for the ceremony and they were done without a problem. Very nice and friendly to work with!

Working with RSQ was so easy and wonderful. They were very responsive and helpful in answering my questions before the wedding. On the day itself, I didn’t get a chance to meet them, but the music they played was absolutely lovely and just what I had wanted. A totally stress free experience!

I'll also note that we made a special request for our recessional song. We wanted them to play the throne room song from Star Wars. I even specified a point in the youtube video where I wanted them to start. They were so cool about it and the effect was exactly what we were going for!

I can not say enough positive things about the Rittenhouse String Quartet. We actually booked a string trio through this company but they were absolutely amazing! We ended up booking RSQ after things fell through at the last minute with another trio we booked. RSQ was wonderful and right away made us feel like we made the right choice. They had lots of demos on-line to listen to (which were gorgeous) and minutes after I sent the group our ceremony song list the office manager wrote me back to say that my selection were great and the church coordinator was already working on organizing timings for our ceremony. At the Catholic wedding ceremony the trio was wonderful. We hired 2 violins and a cellist and they sounded gorgeous in the church. The were loud but not too loud for the setting (which was perfect) and their timings were exactly right. They sounded amazing. We got tons of compliments on these musicians after the ceremony. I am thrilled that we chose the rittenhouse string quartet and i would recommend them overwhelmingly to any bride!!!

We worked with Rittenhouse String Quartet for our ceremony and cocktail hour. It took a few emails and phone calls to figure out the selections for our ceremony, since my original selections weren't exactly optimized for the quartet format. (I actually would have been fine with a very pared down version of the orchestral score, but I got the impression that they didn't want to compromise on the quality, which I can respect). Regarding communication, they typically responded within 2 days, and their office manager was very nice and pleasant. The music itself was nothing short of gorgeous, and the processional even moved my groom to tears! The cocktail hour music was perfect: great selections, not too loud to overpower conversations, but just loud enough for people to enjoy. Would definitely work with them again!

RIttenhouse Quartet was wonderful. They played classical music at the ceremony and cocktail hour, plus some contemporary pieces. They sounded and looked very professional. I recommend them highly.

Rittenhouse Strings helped make our wedding ceremony absolutely beautiful! We used a violin and trumpet, which was the perfect mix (with our organ and piano) for soft, romantic songs or big, dramatic entrances and exits. The musicians worked with our vocalists and our church's music director so we really didn't have to coordinate much beyond selecting our music and sending the program.

They were a bit hard to get a response from along the way, so my only advice would be to engage with them early and get all of the details ironed out.

The music was like listening to a slice of heaven during our ceremony. It was absolutely beautiful & at times so moving it brought me, my husband & many of our guests to tears.

The process of us getting to the ceremony however was VERY difficult as we did not want music out of a can. If you want Canon in D & other common wedding music selections then it won't be difficult to work with RSQ but if you think out of the box and want your music to be unique then be prepared for the owner to write you emails intimating that you are difficult, micromanaging and should seek other musicians...

Their website says you can have as much control as you'd like picking YOUR music & that services are coordinated via email and phone calls. Be prepared though if you send them a list of music A MONTH IN ADVANCE (9/16) that isn't part of their canned prescription they'll work diligently to put you back into their box & then call you to say you're difficult.

A few more disturbing points of contention-be prepared for emails to take 2-3 days to be responded to & there won't be any phone calls to clear up misunderstandings. Be prepared to find solutions for them-If you have a particular song in mind and do not provide them the exact title they will not help you - I had to send them YouTube videos of the song choices. Only after receiving the videos did they come back & tell me they don't have the arrangements on Strings. I had to suggest a piano & then miraculously they could play it. (we have the emails) It seemed as I was the one finding the solutions for them to play our non-obscure music selections.
Rebuttal: I welcome all brides & grooms to contact me for copies of the emails showing delayed responses, and me providing them the music selection in 4 weeks in advance, ME suggesting the piano and ME doing all of the leg work. And my fav email from RSQ - the belittling email is a true GEM that any bride would love to receive 8 days b/4 the wedding.

Rittenhouse String Quartet and Ensembles's reply:

With all due respect to this client....
This client engaged the services of a violin/cello duo and submitted a music request list one week before their event with music that was
    a) largely unplayable for that combination of instruments and
    b) incorrectly titled so we could not recognize what music they really wanted.
We engaged in a dialogue (via email) explaining which pieces were possible for violin/cello duo and which were not, but the disappointment and frustration of the client was evident.

Every email was responded to promptly, and the end result was that we found the proper titles, and OUR suggestion of adding a keyboard made it possible for the pieces requested to be played.

While we try to accommodate musical requests, Rittenhouse Music will not compromise our product by playing inappropriate music for the ensemble engaged.

We always offer compromises that will ultimately result in the quality they expect when hiring RSQ.

We are grateful that in the end this client did, in fact, have the music they requested (when they engaged the proper ensemble!) and ultimately rated the product as 5-star. That is what RSQ is known for!

We unfortunately had a very negative experience with the business side of Rittenhouse Quartet. The music itself - great! The problem was the owner and how the business is run.

We hired Rittenhouse for our September 2015 wedding back in the spring, sending in the initial deposit and contract. The last we had heard from them was an email in April 2015.

Flash forward to two weeks before our wedding and we had not heard a peep from Rittenhouse. We emailed them asking if they would call and they called once, where I unfortunately missed the call. We called them back and...nothing. We left more messages, but did not hear back. This culminated in my finance texting the owner asking if they would call us back so at least we knew that they were coming! Nothing.

I called them again in desperation two days before my wedding and actually got through and spoke to one of the musicians, who was lovely. The owner then got on the phone and said they needed payment by credit card that moment (which they charge extra for) and would not accept a check day of. She said we had violated the contract by not sending them a final payment two weeks before. I was shocked because we had heard nothing from them since April and then we had, on our own initiative, been trying and trying to touch base with them two weeks before! When I asked if they would not charge us the extra credit card fee, the owner launched into a tirade about how horrible we were. I responded only with "I don't understand?" and she said she just "couldn't deal" and would have someone else call me back. Again, this happened two days before the wedding.

No one ever called back, we just received a terse email saying to pay by credit card that instant or they would not show. So we did.

They did come and the music was lovely. But the whole experience left a sour taste. Completely not responsive, then yelling at the bride two days before her wedding is no way to run a business.

Rittenhouse String Quartet and Ensembles's reply:

It is always unfortunate when clients do not read their contracts...We had a long string of correspondences with the groom, which included notification that credit card payments include a surcharge. As a matter of fact, the client originally said they would pay the deposit by credit card and then changed their mind to avoid the surcharge. The contract clearly states that the final payment is due 7 days prior to the event, yet these clients seemed surprised that we required the payment prior to the event, and "disputed" the credit card surcharge, which was the only way to pay since they waited to the last minute to make the final payment. We had no interaction at all with the bride until the week before the wedding, and she did not seem to be aware of any of the information we had exchanged (repeatedly) with the groom, which is why were flabbergasted that she was surprised that there was a payment due, and that there is a surcharge (in print, that they knew about) for credit card payments. In the end, we gave them an excellent product and our musicians received the payment at the wedding that they deserved, despite the fact that we got caught in the middle of the lack of communication between bride and groom regarding the contract they signed and the requirements of payment. We wish them a long, happy life together, and are proud of the music we provided for their wedding

As a disclaimer, I will admit that the music director of my church played a part in this problem in regards to dragging his feet and contacting RSQ for my ceremony music; however, my issue with them is there total lack of communication. After I received there contact information from the musical director, I immediately emailed RSQ to confirm that they were indeed scheduled to play at my ceremony and requested we quickly be in touch since my wedding was in 2 weeks. I emailed and called them EVERY day for one week and did not get a SINGLE response. Their voicemail talks about how they pride themselves on communication and that email is best because they are only in the office 3 days a week. What a joke! I followed up my daily voicemail to them with an email as well and never heard from them once! It was incredibly disheartening and frustrating that on top of having to last minute deal with the ceremony music fiasco that I couldn't even get a simple reply from them saying "yes or no" we can do it. With my wedding in one week I finally had to throw in the towel with RSQ and go with the church organ since I didn't hear a peep from them. I can't imagine what the rest of the process would have been like working with RSQ if it was like pulling teeth to even get an initial response. I'm sure they are very musically talented, but such poor communication really sends a bad message when it is such a simple task to respond to someone. There is no excuse for that in my book.
Moral of the story? Contact them MONTHS ahead but be prepared for headaches in communication and serious difficulty contacting them.

Rittenhouse String Quartet and Ensembles's reply:

Thank you for this feedback; the only way we can fix problems/make things right is by knowing how clients feel.
The confusion here arose by having the church music director involved in this communication. RSQ was told contacted by him (not the wedding family). He asked for our pricing and info and spoke to the family, and then confirmed RSQ to play this wedding. We were given the name of the soloist (who we know and have worked with) and told him we would contact him directly to coordinate the songs for which we would accompany him. We had no idea that the wedding family did not receive the same confirmation from him that we did. Unfortunately, as a small business, there are only 2 of us that actually work in the office. The emails and phone calls about this wedding all came into our office last week (10 days before the wedding). One of our office people was out sick, and the other was dealing with a family emergency. The 3 days you left messages were the 3 days there was no one in the office, and we feel terribly about the upset that this lapse has created. Of course, when we don't have a music director involved, we have a steady stream of communications with our clients over a longer period of time, which would have kept this from happening. Given that this wedding has not yet occurred, we would be happy to make amends and play your wedding this Saturday as planned!
