My husband and I wanted to have a small and intimate wedding. But, one thing that we wanted was to give our guests a fantastic meal and that is exactly what we did. Our wedding was held at the Orcas Hotel and they catered the reception. Part of the wedding package is a one-night stay at hotel and a wedding dinner tasting. We met with the coordinator and we got to order anything off the menu to sample for a wedding menu. We chose our menu after the tasting. We live in Ohio so our main form of communication was email sometimes I would wait weeks before a reply from the Hotel. That added A LOT of stress to the planning process.

Before the cocktail hour, we had all of our guests gather in front of the hotel for a group shot after the wedding and during that time the staff transformed the wedding ceremony to a cocktail hour. We chose coconut shrimp; they were served on skewers and were delicious. We also chose vegetable tempura lollipops that were great for walking around and eating. They served a local red and wine and two local beers were on tap. They even ordered a special beer to be on tap for us from a brewery in Olympia, WA (Fish Tale) where we had our first date.

We then moved to the tent for our dinner. We started with a seasonal salad with bleu cheese and cranberries. The salad had small blue petals in the greens that matched my blue themed wedding. We then enjoyed the main course that we had served family style. Our two entrees were fresh salmon with lemon garlic truffle gremolata and beef tenderloin with a rosemary cabernet demi-glace. Since it was served family style, the portions were a little bit smaller, but our guests could enjoy both salmon and tenderloin. It was also served with sautéed green beans, grilled asparagus that were both cooked perfectly. We also served pressed red potatoes that were delicious.

The communication and responsiveness was poor. The food was fantastic and our guests said the meal was perfect.

The manager of the Orcas Hotel, Doug, made planning our wedding so easy. We booked the whole place for our guests, and were able to make our wedding an all day and all night affair with no pressure. And it still cost less than booking a place for just a few hours in Seattle!
