Stunning Photos & Genuine Care

We feel incredibly lucky to have had Mary Dougherty as our wedding photographer. From the very beginning, Mary went above and beyond. She spent hours speaking with us and our planner over Zoom so we were well prepared going into the weekend. She even traveled to NYC to photograph my bridal fitting and to meet my mom, sister, and grandmother! Mary also did an engagement shoot in the city with my husband and me before the wedding, which helped us feel so much more comfortable and confident in front of the camera. This extra time and care meant that by the time the wedding weekend arrived, we already felt completely at ease with her.

Mary also took the time to truly get to know not only the two of us, but also our close family and friends. With a guest list of over 325 people, this made an enormous difference. She knew exactly who to focus on and captured every meaningful connection throughout the weekend.

Her photos are absolutely stunning and perfectly capture the emotion, joy, and energy of our wedding weekend. Mary has a remarkable gift for making everyone feel comfortable while still giving just the right amount of direction for posing. The result is a collection of images that feel natural, beautiful, and full of life.

On our 12+ hour wedding day, Mary even gave up the two-hour break she was supposed to have simply because she didn’t want to miss photographing more of our reception!

After the wedding, Mary spent months meticulously editing our photos, ensuring that every image was perfected with her signature attention to detail. She then helped us design the most beautiful wedding album. It is thoughtfully curated, timeless, and something we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives.

Mary is warm, talented, and genuinely invested in her couples. Working with her was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding, and we cannot recommend her highly enough to anyone looking for a photographer who will go above and beyond while capturing memories you’ll treasure forever!

A photographer who feels like family

Mary’s work truly speaks for itself — but the best part about her is HER.

We knew our photos were the most important thing for us since we would have them forever. We met with Mary, looked through her work, and hired her on the spot because we just KNEW we had to have her photograph our wedding. We didn't even meet with another photographer after we met her!!

My husband and I have never felt comfortable in front of a camera, so we were nervous going into our engagement session, but Mary immediately put us at ease. She has this amazing way of making you feel like you’ve been friends forever (also if you look through these reviews you will see this come up time and time again because it is SO true). We ended up having so much fun during our engagment session, and Mary even suggested a low-key activity that felt true to us — we took out a canoe, and the photos from that session are pure magic.

For the wedding weekend, we had Mary photograph our rehearsal, welcome party, and the wedding day itself, and honestly, I wish we’d had her there for even more — like our group hike the morning before the wedding and our family dinner on Thursday — because we are absolutely obsessed with every single photo she took.

It wasn’t just us who fell in love with her, either. Friends and family couldn’t stop raving about how warm, kind, and professional she was. She somehow managed to capture every single moment while being so unobtrusive that we barely noticed she was there. The photos aren't just incredible though, they make you feel. Spotting my siblings looking at us smiling in the background or seeing the most special moments with our friends on the dance floor. We couldn't believe everything she captured!!

Mary is beyond talented, but what makes her truly special is the energy and heart she brings to every part of the experience. We feel so lucky to have had her as part of our wedding.

Incredible in every way!

Mary is truly phenomenal and we could not have hoped for a better photographer! From the first time we met, Mary was caring, attentive, and communicative. Obviously her photos are incredible–she frames everything so perfectly and has such a knack for capturing beautiful, candid moments. We especially loved how she uses both digital and film photography–the film adds so much uniqueness and depth. There are also so many wonderful moments that Mary captured of our guests, and we’ll cherish these forever. Our family and friends were blown away by Mary’s photos!

Beyond Mary’s skill as a photographer, her experience really shone through–she helped a ton with planning our detailed wedding timeline and even kept us ahead of schedule on the wedding day! For example, Mary suggested that we do our cake cutting before my dress change and the father daughter dance. We would have never thought to do this, but the logistics worked out seamlessly and we ended up with some incredible photos.

We also really appreciated how generous Mary was with her time. We felt really well taken care of–whenever we caught up with Mary, all our wedding stress went away because we knew we were in such great hands! Mary traveled all the way to New York City to photograph our engagement session, which helped us feel more comfortable in front of the camera on our wedding day. It made a huge difference and made us feel way more confident.

Mary always responded promptly to our emails and questions (and we had a lot!). She really exceeded our expectations by sending us previews within 24 hours of our wedding and sending us our full album within 2 months. I have no idea how she does it since she’s photographing a different wedding basically every weekend during the summer! Needless to say, Mary was a huge part of making our wedding successful and memorable!

So talented!

Mary Dougherty is not only a talented photographer, but a true professional and delight to work with. At first, my husband and I were hesitant to book Mary as she was a bit above our budget, but we are now convinced that this was money well spent. She was clear about her pricing, took the time to do several planning calls to truly understand what we wanted, and advised us on the overall schedule for the day. She also sent us a lovely welcome gift that assured us were in good hands. Of course, the finished photos were exactly what we had hoped for. In addition to formal portraits, Mary captured the emotion of the day and documented the little moments that occurred without planning. Her pictures will be our most cherished and visible mementos from our wedding. Mary has our highest compliments and recommendation!

Mary is a gem !

We originally hired Mary in 2019 to photograph our wedding in the Adirondacks in August 2020.
Mary was adaptable and supportive through the emotional process of rescheduling our wedding due to the pandemic. As we worked to figure out replanning our wedding in July 2021 at our home on Long Island, Mary was patient and steadfastly supportive through this arduous process and the significant change in plans. Mary also navigated us through canceling our engagement photos due to my fiancé having Covid in March 2020 and having to change wedding planners last minute in 2021.

Mary’s photographs speaks for themselves - they are absolutely stunning and timeless, evoking the intimacy of our day. When we viewed our wedding photos we were astonished about what she captured through her lens. She effortlessly captured the entirety of our day and created gorgeous images of memories we will cherish forever.

Mary is absolutely lovely to work with and her gentle energy shines through every interaction with both us and our friends and family. We cannot imagine our wedding day without Mary and would absolutely hire her again and will use her whenever we can in the future.

The Best of the Best

I can’t say enough for how wonderful Mary is! Not only her ability to capture incredible photos of our wedding day, but also providing the most beautiful album for us afterwards. Her professionalism, accessibility, responsiveness and creativity are unmatched. We decided not to use a wedding planner, and Mary was great in helping us coordinate the events of the day based on her experience. The album she provided is the most beautiful, high quality printing with a layout that just has us re-living the happiest day of our lives. She made us feel like we’ve been friends for years (and after postponing due to Covid it sort of turned into that), and I’m so grateful for the opportunity we had to work with her!

We've received our engagement photos and are absolutely stunned. When deciding to work with Mary, we'd looked through all the wonderful photos in her portfolio but it never actually occurred to us that we could look like everyone else she captured, yet somehow there we were! Clearly, obviously, she's the magic. We're so glad to have had this shoot with her, and are so convinced we made the best choice in choosing her to capture our wedding day as well.

We Love Our Photos

Working with Mary for our wedding was an easy decision. We love Mary's natural and artistic style and wanted photos that would be timeless. We're both pretty awkward in front of the camera and Mary was so great at helping us feel comfortable and we had so much fun working with her. Mary was also so helpful as we navigated a wedding during Covid. With every hard decision and every change of plans, Mary was so supportive and understanding. Even though our wedding was so different than we originally planned, it was still the best day and Mary captured every moment so beautifully. Months later, we still can't stop looking at our photos.

Not sure what I love more, Mary or my photos!

Mary was such a pleasure to work with! She was very easy going. We worked together to create the perfect engagement session which was nice to get to know her and see how great she is at her job. She is incredible at working with the outdoors and natural light. She knows exactly where and how we should stand at all times in any location. When it came time for our wedding, I felt confident in Mary that she'd find perfect spots on property to take photos and she'd capture our magical wedding day. We absolutely love our wedding photos, they're gorgeous! Light, airy, magical and perfect! We would love to work with Mary again!!

Best wedding photographer ever

Mary was an absolute pleasure to work with. From Day 1, she was proactive and accommodating / flexible. She worked with us closely to ensure our vision for the big day come true. Her work is absolutely stunning and while she's shooting, she's great at making you feel comfortable (especially if being on camera isn't your favorite thing!). We first hired Mary to shoot our engagement photos and October 2016 wedding. She has since shot maternity photos and several rounds of family photos for us. I honestly cannot express how amazing Mary is! I planned my Rochester, NY wedding (my hometown) from my current home in London and it was pretty stressful finding vendors who I loved without being able to go and see people face to face. Mary was the BEST investment we made in our wedding. Not only did she put up with LOTs of emails from me (she was basically my pen pal), but she took the best wedding photos I've ever seen (I might be biased...).

Mary's style is natural, modern, romantic and everything I wanted in my photos. It rained a lot on my wedding day and you would have NO idea looking at the pictures. She made everyone feel comfortable and was a calm presence in the craziness of a wedding.

We also had the coolest engagement shoot ever with Mary, who took my craft beer idea and ran with it. My husband was very anti-Engagement shoots as a British guy who thinks they're a weird American thing and he LOVED it in the end. All because spending time with Mary is the best!

Like most brides, I ended my wedding wanting Mary to be my friend forever. I'm babbling, but seriously, make Mary your photographer.

My husband and I cannot say enough good things about Mary and her gorgeous photos. She was one of the very first people we hired in the wedding planning process -- we were nervous and overwhelmed, not to mention both my husband and I have a hang-up about pictures (we don't always look our best) so we were especially anxious about finding a good photographer. From start to finish, Mary was a total professional and an absolutely lovely person to work with and get to know. She scheduled an engagement photo session for us early on and made us feel happy and comfortable right away. Her pictures are creative and beautiful - somehow, they manage not to be cliche, no small feat for wedding photos. We got to know her throughout our wedding planning process and ended up going to her for advice beyond photography - that's how much we trusted her judgement and liked her. We also ended up hiring her to do our rehearsal dinner - after we saw what she did with the engagement photos, we knew we had to have her there throughout our wedding weekend. My husband and I became familiar with Mary's work after she photographed a friend's wedding. We were completely captivated by her use of light, simplicity, her eye for scenery, and the fact that her photos captured the emotion of their day so beautifully and tactfully. When we got engaged, she was the first vendor we called. We live in New Orleans and Mary was excited and eager to work with us from afar to plan our perfect day.

Upon arrival to New Orleans, Mary visited the locations we wanted to include in our photos. She was able to create a plan for the shoot the day of the wedding to minimize the chaos that undoubtedly ensues when you are in a city and trying to corral a large bridal party for photos in the French Quarter. This was so helpful in streamlining our photos. Mary was incredibly professional and also flexible as our plans changed due to unforeseen transportation issues.

Our photos are stunning. We couldn't be more thrilled with the finished product. Not only did she capture our excitement and the intimacy of our day, the photos document so many aspects of our wedding that we hope to cherish forever. We were also floored by the turn-around time for our edited proofs. Shortly after we returned from our honeymoon, our pictures were ready for us!

I opted to buy an album, and many family members purchased canvases or framed prints. We are all extremely happy with the quality of the products. Mary also created Thank You notes for us which have receive so many compliments from our guests.

Overall, I couldn't be happier with our choice of photographer. We received amazing photos and top-notch service. I most certainly recommend her to other couples.

I can't say enough amazing things about Mary Dougherty Photography! Not only is Mary adorable and a pleasure to work with, her photographs are gorgeous. This probably sounds silly but you will want her to be your best friend after meeting her. (she's that cool) Overall I had three sessions with Mary - engagement, wedding day, and a special bridal session (a few days before the main event I got to put on my dress and have pictures taken) I would HIGHLY recommend her bridal session to anyone! It was such a unique opportunity to try on my dress, feel beautiful and enjoy a calm moment before the actual wedding day. I have now received all of my photographs from Mary and I couldn't be any happier. She captured the day perfectly and I find myself flipping through the pictures at random times re-living the special moments. She has such a creative eye and the way she perceives the world and captures the light is breathtakingly beautiful. I feel like all of my pictures could come straight out of a bridal magazine! Overall Mary is pretty awesome so any newly engaged couples out there should ABSOLUTELY use her :)

We look back on our wedding day often and it's easy to say that Mary was by far the MVP. Since the day we met her for our engagement shoot, we've always felt comfortable & at ease with Mary. She has a natural ability at making everyone around her feel better about themselves, as if she's been a lifelong friend of yours. After months of planning, the wedding day finally came and it felt like we were reconnecting with an old friend when Mary walked in. Not only is her professionalism exceptional, but she possesses all of the intangibles that you'd want from a photographer: from her selflessness, to her compassionate nature, to her talent/experience. Let's be honest, we weren't sure of exactly what we were looking for when we were searching for a photographer, but we are beyond grateful to have come across Mary's work! We didn't realize how good we had it until we experienced it first hand with her.
The entire evening went by - the ceremony, reception, and dancing - and she blended in so well that you'd think she was just a friend who happened to have a camera or two. She was so focused on her job - she was able to capture those images that, at the moment, were just passing us by.
On top of all of this, the weather that came rolling in on our wedding day wasn't, let's say, what every bride dreams of. I mean, it was steady rain from start to finish. But because it didn't even phase Mary, it didn't phase us! She was such a trooper (along with her amazing second shooter, Kat) - the fact that we were all able to roll with the punches made it all the more memorable. We would do it all over again, with the same images captured, if we could.
As years (and decades) go on, I'm sure we'll continue to look back on our wedding day, thanks to the beautiful moments that Mary was able to document for us. And when we do look back, I'm sure we'll be thinking of how blessed we were to have Mary there with us. We owe you a lifetime Mary!!! Thank you again and again!

My husband and I loved working with Mary! Neither of us are particularly comfortable in front of the camera, and we really wanted pictures that were authentic to us, so naturally I assumed the pictures would be painfully awkward. Mary's primary concern was getting to know us and our story to ensure we got exactly what we wanted. We chose to go with an engagement shoot that helped us to get to know Mary and her style. Not only did it help us to feel more comfortable, but she captured some beautiful moments. In the months leading up to the wedding, we had a loose plan of what the day would look that we began to firm up as the date grew closer. Although my husband insisted that he did not want to do a first look, he changed his mind days before the wedding. Mary was flexible and worked with me and our venue to make it happen. Our first look was incredible, and Mary's pictures captured those moments perfectly. Throughout the ceremony, reception, and dancing, it was almost like Mary was not even there but managed to capture the special, organic moments that my husband and I really wanted. Because Mary really got to know us and our story, she captured us and our wedding day in the ways that would be most meaningful to us.

Hands down, Mary was the best choice I could have made for my wedding photographer. We did engagement photos with her and absolutely loved it, from that point forward I knew I didn't have to worry about the wedding photos. She helped us get a timeline together for the wedding day and we ended up with hundreds of beautiful photos. She was very professional, made sure we got all the pictures we planned for, and during the reception she caught so many candid moments that I would have missed otherwise. We are 2 months after the wedding and the only hard thing about all the photos right now is figuring out which ones to print as we love them all!!

Having beautiful photographs from our wedding day was our top priority when we were planning our rustic barn wedding. We decided upon Mary Dougherty Photography after seeing her portfolio. She has a way of capturing the natural moments between people and the landscape that we loved (we really don't like the staged photos from almost every other wedding photographer). She was willing to meet us in Saratoga at my family's farm on her way back from a work trip to Vermont for our engagement photos. Even in the January weather, she trekked through the snow and ice around the farm to capture some gorgeous photos. For our wedding, she and her partner were able to capture the special moments of getting ready and our first look without being intrusive or directive and she just let each moment unfold naturally. I loved her use of the natural light in our photographs and how it seems you are there when looking through all the photos. We also ordered a photobook of our wedding that she laid out and had printed. It is a very high quality photobook that I would never have been able to recreate on my own. I treasure this new family heirloom and we break it our anytime friends or family come to our home. Overall, choosing Mary as our photographer was one of the best wedding planning decisions we made.

I was very familiar with Mary's work and she was the first vendor we booked. After receiving our engagement photos, my faith in her eye, talent and professionalism were confirmed. Our wedding included a large bridal party and a day's worth of "good luck" rain. My biggest fear was that the weather would prevent me from getting the photos I had been dreaming about. Mary, adorable baby bump and all, went above and beyond to make sure that those dreams came true. From modifying the shot schedule to waking up for a sun-kissed shoot the next day, she gave us everything we wanted and more. And, after seeing all the photos from our special day, the rainy ones are my favorite!

John and I chose a different route in our 'Big Day', we eloped, running into the woods with our pastor and tying the knot in a mystical fairy tale scene. Mary was not only up for the challenge of a different photo shoot, but super excited and down for whatever we asked. No one could have captured our magical day like Mary. We could not have been more excited to have Mary photographing our day, we looked at all sorts of photographers, but nobody has the right look we wanted. There is something about the way Mary takes her photos, they are just stunning, months later people still gasp and tell us how incredible our Wedding Pictures are. Her unique style in portraying people, their personalities and style coupled with the dream-like and angelic light she carefully captures in every shot just makes all of her photos breathtaking. Mary showed up early to my house (and stayed late when we ran behind schedule) to get photos of my mom getting me ready, and we were racing around frantic from being late, Mary actually made the whole situation better, she was so fun to chit-chat with and had a calming affect that made us take a breathe and not worry about a thing. I always wondered if it would be awkward trying to take romantic wedding pictures, kissing in front of the camera and such, but Mary was so fun to be around and at the same time she had a quiet nature that made us feel calm and like it was just my new groom and I in a distant fairy tale story in the woods . She really cares about you and your story. Everyone who looks at her work immediately sees she has incredible talent at what she does, and now thanks to her I have the most beautiful pictures to show our family, friends, children and grandchildren. Every girl dreams about having incredible wedding pictures from their incredible day, Mary made that dream come true for me, thank you so much Mary!

We are so lucky to have found Mary Dougherty Photography to document and capture not only our wedding day, but our rehearsal dinner and engagement session! She was referred to us by a friend and she exceeded all of our expectations. Her talent and creativity is unparalleled and we knew we were in perfect hands from day one! She is so selfless, generous with her time and we are blessed to have her as our photographer, but even more so as our friend. She spent countless hours on the phone, walking me through every detail, drove out of her way to meet us for our engagement session, and spent 18+ hours with us the weekend of our wedding. We could not imagine a more perfect person to be by our side. Although Chris and I were not exactly naturals in front of the camera when we first met, she put us immediately at ease and we felt like we were with an old friend. My husband and I were overjoyed when we were able to to work with Mary for our wedding! In our photographer search, I believe I reviewed the websites and galleries of about 27 different photographers, but no other images spoke to me like Mary's. We knew immediately that no one else would capture our love story in the romantic-artistic-vintage style that her eye and talent offers.

Mary was also a joy to work with, and we most appreciated her flexibility and genuine desire to capture us and our family. She was happy to accommodate us in the timing of our engagement pictures, and allowed us to utilize multiple locations during both our engagement and wedding photos. She was even able to get our 1 year old yellow Labrador puppy to cooperate during the shoot, producing gorgeous photos of the 3 of us!

I am a type-A, micro-manager, and when it came to the wedding, I worked for a year to make sure every detail would be perfect on our special day. While in theory I should have been nervous about every detail being captured, I was anything but concerned on our wedding day. Mary and her assistant were professional, timely, and truly seemed to be honored to share in our wedding. I did not once worry that
a detail would be missed in the photographs...and Mary did not disappoint!! Our wedding was a whirlwind, as is anybody's, but we were able to relive every moment (those remembered and not remembered) through the story Mary provided us in our gallery.

My husband and I would undoubtedly recommend Mary's talent for anybody's photography needs. She will not only be your photographer, but will become a friend. Mary Dougherty and her undeniable talent was one of our smartest wedding investments.

I enjoyed working with Mary because of how quickly she is able to put you at ease in front of the camera. Mary worked with us for an engagement shoot and then for the wedding day and was very communicative about how we should engage with the camera as well as every detail for the wedding day. Being in front of a camera for a photo shoot can be nerve wracking, but Mary has the unique talent of tricking you into becoming a model for the shoot.
I was originally apprehensive about sticking to the wedding day timeline for family portraits and bridal party portraits, but Mary was flexible and professional in her management of the portrait sessions. Her experience was obvious when she problem-solved time delays and worked with us to re-arrange portrait sessions to stay on schedule when we hadn't planned quite enough time. Additionally, we were very happy with the spontaneous couple portraits that Mary suggested in order to capture certain light during the outdoor reception.
Investing in Mary means that we have the highest quality photographs from our wedding and will be able to remember every detail and moment by looking through her beautiful photographs. Her background in the arts shows in her body of work. I would absolutely recommend Mary to anyone looking for both professional, artful photographs and a photographer with excellent interpersonal skills.

Mary was such an amazing photographer. I was so impressed with her ability to keep everybody so grounded during such an emotional day. It was so helpful to me as the bride because it took that stress away from me. Her role was very prominent. I was amazed at Mary's ability to keep things moving with all of the different personalities including our family and the other staff. I definetly underestimated the role of a photographer. I chose Mary as my photographer because she's gifted at what she does; however, I quickly learned that her other qualities were so important during such a special day. I have not been able to refrain from sending love emails to Mary since my husband and I’s engagement shoot back in September 2013. From her personality to her professionalism and experience in getting countless 'it' shots, we couldn't be happier. We can't begin to tell you how many people said that our images should be on the front page of a magazine, and have been hearing praises ever since last fall. Although we would love to take responsibility, all credit is due to Mary Dougherty Photography.

When we expressed interest in booking Mary as our photographer, we instantly felt a connection to her. This was especially important to us because we didn't want any of our pictures to come out 'awkward' or 'forced'. Our expectations were met and exceeded. Mary coached us in a way that she was able to capture who Matt and I were as a couple, all the while turning a photo shoot into an amazing experience that we will never forget.

Fast forward to May 2014, Mary and Jake joined us to document our wedding day. Although the hours flew by (no matter how hard we tried to live in each moment), we were constantly brought back to the second-long moments that we may have forgotten about otherwise through our photographs. Their ability to capture moments is uncanny. Mary and Jake seemed to be at the right place, always at the right time to get some amazing shots before in the next second they were gone.

My hairdresser (who also does photography) recommended Mary's work to me when I got engaged. After looking through some of the work on her website, I knew that I had to book her and was thrilled that she was available on the date of our wedding! When we choose Mary to be our wedding photographer we knew we had made the right decision, from the moment that we met with her we instantaneously felt comfortable! We even booked her a year and a half before our wedding because we knew that we needed to have HER photograph our wedding :0) Throughout the year she continuously emailed us to see if we needed any help with the wedding and was always there to give us tips and advice for the weedng. The week before the wedding she called and went over the “game plan” for the wedding day and it most definitely put our mind at ease to know that she had everything under control from her end. Mary showed up to our house on November 30th, 7 months pregnant mind you, with her camera in hand, suitcase in the other and she was ready to go!! She was so accommodating that it was like she was another person in our family, all of our family members and friends loved her because she was so nice, easy going and flexible. Not many photographers will stop traffic while they are 7 months pregnant to get the perfect picture for you and Mary did that!! Mary was so relaxed and patient when working on such a hot day with us. I had some specific requests and she was very flexible with this. Mary was very good at making us feel comfortable posing for pictures but was able to capture a lot of us being natural just as we requested. We love our collection of pictures, as do our friends and families and we have received so many positive compliments on Mary's work.

Mary was able to capture our wedding venue so well, which is what we wanted since the place was so special to us. We loved the scenery and organic feel the pictures provided.

The one thing we would have enjoyed is a few more closer pictures, however, I can understand given the setting, that there was a lot to capture. We were still beyond pleased with the outcome and had so much fun working with Mary.

We are so happy that we met Mary over two years ago – she took our engagement pictures, and recently photographed our rehearsal dinner and wedding. I simply can't say enough good things about Mary and her work. It was a fantastic experience working with her for our wedding. We first had an engagement session, and she works really hard to plan a session that is representative of the couple she is photographing. Then leading up to the wedding she gives lots of great advice on timelines/where and when to shoot, etc. I love the variety of places we were able to get photos in. Mary was wonderful on the day of the wedidng too, from coordinating people for pictures, to making this somewhat awkward couple feel comfortable in front of the camera all day. Also, Mary is a dog lover, so she was more than happy to shoot with our dog for both the engagement session and the wedding. And most of all her work speaks for itself. It's absolutely beautiful! I would highly recommend Mary to anyone!!!

Mary is an amazing photographer! Her work is breathtaking. One of the things I liked the best about my wedding photos is that there is at least one picture of everyone that was at my wedding. We had 130 guests so she was all over the place taking pictures left and right. She really treats her customers like their wedding is the most important even though she is really working on weddings every weekend you wouldn't know! She is interested in the people lives involved in the wedding and the little details of the wedding. I would recommend her to anyone who wants unique, special wedding photos!

I love Mary.

She is fantastic.

She is a very professional young woman. She has a very amazing sense of photographic style. It is photo-documentary as well as traditional when needed. She is flexible and works with your schedule. She is also able to make recommendations for timing and scheduling of the wedding day etc.

She did our engagement shoot as well as our wedding photographs. The engagement shoot was so much fun. She used the engagement shoot photographs to make a guest book for our reception, and it was amazing as well.

Our wedding day was awesome. Mary showed up right on time with her assistant for the day, MarieClair. They got right to work shooting all of the little details and then the getting ready and then did our first look. We have only seen a few of the wedding day photos so far but I know they will be incredible. They worked in the background and were very unobtrusive. She even stayed a few extra minutes to make sure she captured our grand exit from the reception. Again, fantastic.

Mary was everything we had hoped for in a photographer and more! She was professional, artistic, creative, fun to be around, and made us feel totally comfortable in front of the camera! Her photographs are modern and fresh-- and we have so many wonderful memories documented that it will be hard to choose which ones to include in our album. She offered great direction for the portaits and found perfect moments from our special day for the candids. When I flipped through the proofs for the first time, I felt like I was reliving the day. She captured not only the deatails from our wedding day that were physically beautiful, but somehow she was able to convey our emotions as well. I wouldn't have used another photographer even if they were free! Mary provided excellent, professional service. She is so incredibly talented; her work absolutely takes my breath away! If I could describe Mary's work in one word it would be AMAZING!!!! She captured everything that me and my husband wanted in our wedding photos and more! Everyone who has seen our wedding photos comments on how beautiful they are and how all the shots are clear, vibrant, and crisp. Mary's eye for detail is a true art form. The great thing about Mary is that while she works she's non-intrusive and isn't bossy. (You could barely notice her during the ceremony and reception and she managed to capture lots of fabulous images!!).Mary has a very calming presence -which as a bride really put me at ease that day. Mary was a wonderful photographer - she was very professional, while at the same time making me feel very comfortable! She was so much fun to hang out with throughout my wedding weekend, and fit in very naturally with myself and my bridesmaids as she was photographing us, and didn't make us feel uncomfortable at all - it just felt like having another friend around! Because of this, not only did she take some wonderful posed pictures, but she was also able to take some amazing candid pictures that truly capture the mood of the moment, and that truly show my bridesmaids, my husband, and me being ourselves! She was also very flexible to my schedule and very responsiveness, especially as the date got closer and I came up with more and more questions! She worked really well with my schedule after the wedding as well, and was readily available to help me get my album put together and get me whatever pictures I wanted! My husband and I can't say enough about the quality of Mary's work, her professionalism, artistic eye, etc. From the photographers I've met, I would say she's hands down one of the best in her field. Mary is easy to work with, responds to messages immediately.... and keeps in very good touch. Not to mention she's fun and has great ideas! During our wedding, she caught priceless expressions and glimpses of action that we were too busy to notice. We are SO happy and LOVE our wedding photos!

We were so happy with Mary Dougherty's photography for our wedding. She is very professional and always on time (she still managed to travel to our wedding in a huge snow storm!) She also made my husband and I feel very comfortable in front of the camera. Mary caught all of the important moments of our wedding day, and also captured the fun and unique photos we were looking for. We couldn't be any more excited about how our photos came out!

Mary took the engagement pictures as well as wedding pictures for my husband and I and they turned out absolutley beautiful. We could really tell in every step of the process that photography is her passion, because of the quality and professionalism she showed. We were looking for a photographer who would add a little more fun and creativity as opposed to a lot of cookie cutter wedding photos that we had seen in the past. We ended up with very classic romantic wedding photos that we will cherish forever. We have found our family photographer for life and I would HIGHLY recommend Mary without hesitation!

Mary Dougherty is the most creative and professional photographer that I've ever witnessed. I had the privilege of having her photograph my own wedding December 2009. It snowed an unexpected 27" the day of, but she was so awesome about figuring out some tricky challenges due to weather. She drove out a night earlier than supposed to so she wouldn't get stuck in Harrisonburg and miss our big day! Not only was she insanely reliable and flexible, but the photos that she captured were beyond what we could have ever imagine. Even aside from the fact that they're my wedding photos I would consider them as artwork. Seriously, she's the best!

From the beginning of our wedding planning up until hopping in our get away car - Mary was an absolute pleasure to work with. Mary photographed our engagement and wedding photos. I loved Mary's work from the first time I found her. She had a young and vibrant perspective - mixing portraits and interesting, creative candids. I would have never predicted that some of the photos that came back would become our favorites. Mary and I discussed ideas I wanted to see but came ready with her own ideas. Because of her we have some amazing night photos that I would not myself have asked for - we trusted her completely. It helped to work with her in the engagement session so that we were more comfortable, and were subsequently willing to trust her judgment. To contrast from a friend's photographer who was rude and bossy towards guests and interrupted the bride's conversations... Mary is visible, and always around when you need her but otherwise unobtrusive. Our day was just that much smoother knowing that we had a great person like Mary as our photographer. Mary Dougherty is a very talented and gifted photographer. She was super easy to work with and be in contact with. I was able to meet with her before hand to discuss how I wanted my wedding to look and what my vision was for the wedding just so she could be on the same page as me. She had great ideas for poses and captured candids beautifully! She was very innovative and her style is very artistic. She really was my dream photographer and had great package prices to offer. She was timely in getting all of my pictures back to me after the wedding. I am having so much fun looking through them and reliving my wedding. Plus, it was so much fun to see things that happened at the wedding that I just didn't get to see. Mary is the best!

Great photos... that's the bottom line right? Mary has a great eye and can capture a variety of different styles. We have traditional photos that my Grandparents can enjoy and some cool/hip pictures that my generation loves. My wife has them displayed ALL OVER THE HOUSE! We loved that we have all the pictures on a DVD that we can view or print whenever we want, it makes for a great value.

Mary is very professional but also very kind and friendly. It was nice having her around and she never made anyone feel unnatural or awkward. Very easy to work with and no worries about ever getting taken advantage of. I can't say enough good things! A bridesmaid from our wedding is already using Mary in her upcoming wedding!

Mary did a great job capturing our wedding. She's an excellent photographer who goes around unnoticed during your day, capturing special moments and unique shots. I appreciated her willingness to be flexible in working around our wedding schedule as well as giving us a say in the kinds of shots we wanted and the locations we'd like to use. She does a good job balancing her own artistic opinion with customer wants and needs.

My husband and I had the BEST experience with Mary as our photographer for our engagement session and wedding. She was very flexible and made us both feel comfortable in front of the camera. She is great at catching the non-posed pictures which I LOVE! And awesome and seeing pictures and capturing them in a different view or light. All my friends and family who have seen her work want to use her as well in the future because of her great work and professionalism! As soon as I was engaged I went straight to Mary. I had been looking on her website and blog for some time, so I was so excited to be able to hire her as our photographer! Mary took our engagement and wedding photos and they are just beautiful. Mary Dougherty rocks at taking photos. She sure knows how to capture a moment! She did my engagement, bridal, and wedding day photos. She was flexible with her time and willing to do whatever was comfortable for my husband and I. She responded quickly to any questions we had and she was a thrill to work with. Choosing Mary as my photographer was the best decision I made regarding my wedding plans. We were lucky enough to have Mary photograph our engagement photos in Philadelphia and our September wedding in Detroit. Despite being based in New York, Mary made it a priority to understand the logistics of both locations and suggested a variety of options for our photos. As a detail oriented bride, Mary put my mind at ease when she agreed to do a walk through of our post ceremony photo itinerary in Detroit. Not only did she help come up with great ideas for our photos but she ensured that I would have nothing to worry about on the day of my wedding.
Our engagement and wedding photos turned out better than I could have ever imagined. Mary is a truly talented photographer. In addition to the beautiful portraits she took of my husband and I, she captured the details of the day perfectly. From my accessories to the details of my wedding dress to the decor of the reception, Mary does a wonderful job of telling the "story" of your day through her photographs. Mary was fantastic!! We took advantage of the free engagement photo session which was included in our wedding package. The photos turned out great despite the non-stop rain and clouds. She was flexible with us, working around the weather and trying to find just the right location where we would not get too wet.

During the wedding/reception, she was everywhere she needed to be. My mother in-law said she would think "this would be a great shot, I should take a picture," but Mary was already there capturing the special moment. Mary's photo journalism style fit our personalities and tastes, and really captured the day in a unique, creative and thoughtful way. We could not be happier with our images. And the price is excellent for the high quality, and all the rights to the photos. I would recommend her to everybody.

Mary was an absolute pleasure to work with. I knew I loved her pictures after a friend used her for a wedding. After speaking with her, I realized that the pictures are not the only thing to love! She's very professional but laid back at the same time. Leading up to the wedding, she was so helpful and reassuring, especially for a bride who was planning from afar. The day of our wedding, Mary was attentive, creative and non-intrusive. She blended into the guests but captured so many gorgeous moments. I would highly recommend MDP to other brides.

If you want excellent, artistic photography, Mary Dougherty Photography is perfect for your wedding. My wife and I were blessed to have been parts of weddings where Mary was hired prior to our own wedding day to see how well she worked with everyone (parents, coordinators, wedding party, bride/groom). When we first were engaged, we knew that we wanted to have Mary as our photographer. We booked her within the week. On top of it all, Mary agreed to travel from Michigan (where she was shooting a wedding) to New York to do it. During your wedding, you'll hardly notice Mary as she captures every angle of your ceremony, and you'll be wowed by her artistic eye when the proofs of your portraits, wedding party shots, and other photos become available. Hands down, Mary captured our wedding so vividly, our memories of that day will never be forgotten.

Mary was a GREAT photographer for our event. I didn't have many ideas as far as what types of photos I wanted to have, but Mary was able to roll with the events of the day and put her own creative spin on "capturing the moment." She produced some loads of fabulous candid shots, but was also very helpful in guiding us for our portrait photos. We couldn't be happier with the product she has given us and the memories that she's captured that will last a lifetime.

Mary was an excellent choice to capture unique, classic and memorable photographs of the biggest day of my life. She was easy to work with throughout the entire process, promptly responding to my emails and calls, and respecting my time schedule as well. She was creative in the shots that she took, while not being too "out there". We all felt very comfortable in front of the camera with her...I think because she made things feel fun and natural.
