Shanna, Johnene, Jenna, and Linsey were incredible! Shanna and Johnene did my mom and I’s hair and makeup trial as well and were amazing throughout the whole process. They are professional, timely, and very responsive. We had so much fun the morning of my wedding! We loved the results from our hair and makeup and I highly recommend booking them for your wedding!

Johnene was amazing throughout the entire process! She was responsive from the beginning getting quotes, setting up trials and worked with me on exactly the style of hair and make up I wanted to feel my best on our wedding day. The entire wedding party (ages 14 -76) loved their hair and make up and I highly recommend Pins to Pearls for your special occasion.

Excellent and seamless!

I was so grateful for Johnene and Shanna on my wedding day! They knew what they were doing, and they definitely delivered! They did hair and makeup for me, my 6 bridesmaids, and the moms for my wedding. They did an excellent job and they were such good sports with my mother & MIL. LOL

Johnene is the sweetest person to work with!! Super polite, easy going, very flexible!! I loved that she would check in periodically leading up to the big day! Her team is just as amazing! Having Pins to Pearls at my sisters wedding was fantastic!! Not having to go to the salon and rush back to wedding venue made the day run smoothly and stress free. Shanna is such a talent! Everyone looked beautiful and we all loved our hair. That day was very windy for the outdoor ceremony but Shanna made sure that our hair was pinned and hair sprayed enough that after the ceremony all of our hair still looked wonderful. I would highly recommend Pins to Pearls to any bride!

First of all let me just say, that I am pretty sure that like most women, we all are freaking out about our hair up to the day of the wedding! And that was me! And I was just the mother of the groom!haha Shanna, several times, reassured me that i was going to look great! Well, she certainly pulled it off! I have never had soo many compliments! My makeup and hair looked fantastic! I would suggest her to anyone! She is upbeat and fun which makes it even better!!

Shanna and her team were so amazing! They were so fun to work with, and so responsive to hair and makeup requests. They made my bridesmaids, the moms, and me look so amazing. Looking back at photos, I find myself wishing they could do my hair and makeup EVERY DAY! Shanna is so personable and was super flexible when I decided to add on hair services after my previous hair consultation with another stylist didn't got well. She is so great and I would 100% recommend her to anyone and everyone!

This is the team you want on your wedding day! These girls are young, trendy, professional, and sweet as can be. They really make your vision come to life. Being part of a bridal party-it was relaxing to sit back and let them go to work. The bride and us maids got so many compliments on her special day!

Working with Shanna and her team was great! I was very happy with my hair and makeup on our wedding day. I appreciated the option of a full hair and makeup trial a few months before our wedding. I really wanted 'natural-looking' makeup, not an overdone transformation, and Shanna was understanding and supportive of this. She and another stylist arrived at 5 am, which was especially awesome considering our hotel was about an hour away from her studio. Shanna is talented, easy to work with, and competitively priced - I'd definitely recommend her to other brides!

Pins to Pearls/Hair for a Special Affair was very informative on helping me pick the best hair and make-up style I needed for may hair and skin. I was so pleased with the bridal trial that Shanna had done for me that I knew I had chosen my vendor and look for the big day. On the wedding day Shanna traveled to my house which was out of state and so much more relaxing than going to a salon to get pampered on my wedding day. Shanna was very patient with me on making sure my bobby pins were placed perfectly not to hurt my head, which is the worst on your big day. Overall you will not be disappointed in your hair and make-up done by Pins to Pearls/Hair for a Special Affair team.

Shanna and her team were wonderful! Very responsive to emails and last minute changes. Our hair and makeup was flawless. My husband told me he didn't even notice my dress till dinner since he couldn't take his eyes off my face. Shanna has nothing short of amazing on my wedding day. From my hair trial to the day of the wedding she made sure that there was not a detail that was left unfinished. The day of my wedding she showed up early and did not leave until everyone was happy with there hair, which they all were, She has a knack for her job and you can really tell by the product that she produces.. Shanna was a complete doll to work with, from the time of my trial until the wedding day she made sure all the details were in place and everything was going to be perfect. The day of my wedding came and she had everything she needed.. She not only came super early, but was able to spend a lot of time of each of my bridesmaid and me as the bride as well. I received many compliments the night of my wedding. It was amazing to hear my bridesmaid say how well there hair stayed. Most of them have board straight hair and Shanna made sure they would have curly hair until the end of the night! I'm so glad that we went with Shanna and hair for a special affair!

Hair for a Special Affair were great! They got me in fairly last minute and then were so patient with my MANY changes to the itinerary of who and when wanted hair and makeup. At our trial, they were receptive to my mother's and my suggestions/comments, and day of, they arrived ready to go at the appropriate time, and even brought an extra set of hands (no extra travel fee) to ensure we were all done on time. Shanna and her team of professionals provided outstanding service to me and my bridal party on the day of my wedding. Shanna was a pleasure to work with during the entire wedding planning process. She was accommodating, professional, and incredibly talented. Most of all, she showed passion for what she does. Shanna and her team travelled to my bridal suite the day of, bringing all supplies with them. They completed a crowd of hair and makeup for 8 bridesmaids, 2 mothers, and my sister-in-law. They did a fantastic job, listened to our preferences, and completed them to our satisfaction, in a timely manner. Shanna brings a calm about the situation and made me feel comfortable, special, and pampered. Hair for Special Affair was terrific. Shanna was always friendly and flexible, as I had to change the number of people getting hair and make up a few times. Shanna from Hair for a Special Affair was a pleasure to work with. If you're looking for someone to travel to the venue for you, this vendor is a great option! Shanna did a hair/makeup trial for me at her mother-in-laws salon on the Chesapeake Bay, but then travelled with 2 other stylists to Potomac, MD for our wedding. They showed up on time and got through 8 people in about 3 hours.

I had a fluke experience with a facial the week of my wedding that caused me to breakout in hives on my face! However, the stylists helped make my makeup and hair look exceptional in our wedding photos which covered my reactive skin! I was very pleased.

Shanna and Jamie arrived on time and ready to work the morning of Alyson's wedding. They were fully equipped, extremely pleasant and professional, and most importantly, they brought their great personalities and sense of humor to keep eveyone feeling at ease.. "Let the Beauty Begin..." was the mantra of the day as the activity began. Both Shanna and Jamie listened so well to their clients and delivered hair and makeup which made everyone feel like a million bucks; servicing one Bride, two Mothers and seven bridesmaids with perfection. Shana is a magician with a curling iron. Show her any picture or share your idea and it will come to life. On time, on schedule very professional. My bridesmaids , moms and I never looked better!

Shanna was punctual (which is huge for any bride on her wedding day or for anyone with plans/i.e. booking for a photographer). Affable, professional, quick and easy to get along with. She understood the style I was looking for and made me feel comfortable. She even offered to come by and give me touch ups to my hair at no cost (just b/c I was shooting 5 minutes away from her home). Extremely flexible and worked with me albeit a 2 week notice. Highly recommend her for any event!

Shanna was amazing and so is her work. We had no real idea as 2 what we wanted for hairstyles but told her we wanted our hair up. She knew just what to do and we all loved it. LOVED using this vendor. My trial went so quickly, and she made sure it was just what I wanted before letting me leave. She showed up promptly and brought an assistant to help make sure that all 6 of us would get done in plenty of time on the day of. They worked so efficiently, and everyone looked great. They even did my flower girl's hair, and it was adorable. I couldn't believe how quickly they worked and how beautiful everything turned out. She made sure to do touch ups before leaving and was happy to make any adjustments for any of the girls. Definitely recommend working with them!

Shanna and her assistant did a fabulous job for my wedding, which included me, two moms, and 7 bridesmaids.

I chose a curled up-do for my hair with textured volume in the crown. I wanted a look that was classic and elegant. Shanna styled my hair perfectly! It was exactly what I wanted. I wanted the curls to be much more orderly and arranged in a very specific way that would look refined but romantic. When picking a stylist, I was very worried that when I requested a curly updo, I would get an awful prom updo or something even worse, like victorian curls. I was so lucky I picked Shanna, because she really listened, and really executed on the look. She was able to take the photos I gave her of various styles and merge them into exactly what I wanted. I was thrilled! The up-do even held up through out the night, even after lots of dancing (and I have very thick hair that almost NEVER stays).

Shanna and her assistants really did a great job with my bridesmaids and mothers as well. All of my girls picked different looks (from 50s sirene to classic updos), and all of them looked great. I just got our wedding photos back, and everyone's hair is just so well done. Everyone's hair looks very soft and touchable. So beautiful!

Shanna is very professional and great to work with. She showed up exactly on time, which was huge, because we had a tight time schedule to get everyone ready. Shanna and team are extremely efficient, but without sacrificing quality.

I would highly recommend Shanna as a wedding hair stylist. You won't regret it!

Shanna was great! She got back to me quickly after my first email to her. At the trial she was flexible in letting me try two hairstyles I was deciding between, and gave me great advice as to which would look best with my veil and face shape. The day of the wedding, she arrived on time and was calm and friendly. Even when one or two of the people who needed to be at the hotel to get their hair done were a few minutes late, Shanna remained pleasant and professional. My hair looked wonderful and my curls held up all night through lots of dancing and an outdoor ceremony. She's also very quick and got done everyone's hair in time for us to do some extra pre-ceremony pictures. Would definitely use her again.

Shanna was extremely responsive via email and did an excellent job of confirming everything in writing, as well as planning out time for all of the services needed. She and Jackie arrived early and worked very efficiently, and no one having their hair or makeup done ever felt rushed. They still managed to finish ahead of schedule. Shanna was great at taking pictures of a few different hairstyles I liked and combining them into a style that looked perfect for me. Jackie was very careful and detailed with makeup application, stopping frequently to check and make sure I was happy with how it was coming. Shanna did a terrific job at helping each bridesmaid look unique- they all looked gorgeous with many different hairstyles. Jackie did my mom's makeup as well, and did a perfect job of making her look like a beautiful mother of the bride, not overly done up- my mom was so happy with how she looked. On top of all this, Jackie and Shanna are very sweet and easy to get along with, and really made the whole day of getting ready an even more fun experience for us.

Shanna and Jackie were amazing to work with! At my trial, I was immediately impressed with the way they listened to what I was asking for, their execution of my requests and their professionalism. Shanna was very responsive and helpful when it came to scheduling my trial and pinning down the details for the day of. On the day of my wedding Jackie did a fabulous job on my hair and my 5 bridesmaids. Not only did everyone look amazing; she was very efficient (finishing everyone’s hair by noon) and accommodating (my sister had trouble deciding on a style, so Jackie worked with her to modify and change her style until my sister was happy). I reside in Wilmington, DE, but was married in Grasonville, MD. I found Hair for a Special Affair here on Wedding Wire. I could not be happier with my decision to contact Shanna. She responded quickly to my initial email and we scheduled a trial soon after, which was great since I planned my wedding in 2 months! I had my hair and my 12 year old daughter's hair done. Jackie was great! At the trial, we chose one style for my daughter, but ended up changing it the day of the wedding and Jackie was able to give her what she wanted without skipping a beat. Shanna at Hair for a Special Affair is the best at wedding up-do's! Her and her crew were very professional, giving me and my girls the best looking up-do's and makeup. My wedding was during the day so her team had to arrive at 5am to start hair and makeup! They were on time and ready to rock that early in the morning.
I thought she charged an appropriate amount for travel and the services themselves. She was ready and eager to bring the right products and the right equipment necessary for my big day.
She met with me 3 times before my wedding just to get my tricky do just right. I was very impressed with her attentiveness and willingness to meet me at anytime and to get my hair perfect.

Shanna from Hair for a Special Affair was absolutely wonderful. During my hair trial my mom and I were super impressed and could tell she was very adept and skillful at what she did. i absolutely LOVED Shanna and Jackie from Hair for a Special Affair. Shanna not only worked quickly, but was so friendly. Just a lovely person to get dolled up with on my special day. The trial for hair and makeup was effortless making me realize their talent and gave me all the confidence in the world that they would do a great job for me and my girls on the big day. Both of them listened to all my wants and was open and flexible to change things up when needed. Shanna made my hair look amazing and I got so many compliments. Jackie was also great! She gave me the natural look I wanted, but at the same time my makeup looked glamorous and was comfortable. There was a lot of hugging, kissing and dancing and everything stayed put the whole night. Shanna is THE BEST! I had a wedding party with 11 bridesmaids and she was able to do all of our hair by herself and everyone loved their results. I've never seen a group of that many girls ALL happy with her hair. As the bride, I absolutely loved what she did with my hair. It was exactly what I was looking for and I knew it would be. Shanna completely exceeded my expectations for my wedding hair. I did not have time for a trial run, so I wasn't sure what to expect. She made sure she understood exactly what I wanted and made great suggestions. The end result was just incredibly elegant. And, she was friendly and sweet, which made the experience even better. Shanna was great! I picked Shanna because of her great reviews, and I liked that she would come on-site to do hair at our venue. I also liked that she did not require you to do hair and makeup, since I was only interested in getting hair services. She did my hair for my wedding, as well as 2 bridesmaids and the mother of the groom. I had a trial with her before the wedding, and she took photos so she could recreate my hair on the day of the wedding. Shanna texted me the day of the wedding to let me know she was on her way, she got there early and was very flexible. Shanna is very talented and we were all very happy with our hair!

Shanna was great! I live in San Diego but my wedding was in Annapolis, so I really had to rely on reviews and pictures online when I was looking for a hair and make up stylist that would travel to my wedding party. And everything I read was spot on! I contacted a few different vendors, but Hair for a Special Affair was the most flexible and the most value for my money. (I only gave a 4.5 on responsiveness because a few of the other vendors were faster getting back to me, and at one point about two weeks prior to the wedding I freaked out a bit because I wasn't sure I had them locked into my contract, but mostly I was just anxious due to my cross-country wedding planning, and Shanna was great about getting back to me otherwise.)

I had six girls in my wedding party, plus a mother and a friend who wanted to use hair and make up services. Up to the morning of the wedding, people were adding or changing what they wanted done, but Shanna and her make up artist were super easy-going and willing to accommodate. They showed up around 815 in the morning to get everyone done, and finished with more than enough time to spare to do touch ups. Make up varied from darker and more dramatic to more simple and natural; hair varied from long curls, blow outs, side buns, half-up, and more classical up-do's. And everyone loved what they got, without exception.

All in all, they were fun and easy to work with, and they gave great results. I definitely recommend!!

Pins and Pearls was extremely accommodating for my wedding. I was one month out from my wedding when a hair stylist backed out on me and my 5 bridesmaides. Seeing that time was a sensitive thing, I was only able to speak with them via facebook and phone, I didn't even have a trial because I simply had no time left. I sent pictures of the styles I wanted and they completely nailed it! We looked stunning for my wedding and I want to thank Pins to Pearls for making us all look so beautiful! I really enjoyed working with Shanna for both my hair and makeup. She is very down-to-earth and fun. She really listened to what I wanted to look like on my big day and made that happen. She was very organized and sent me a proposed schedule for the day well in advance of the actual event. My favorite part was that she and her team will come to your location. This really helped ease the stress of the day by having hair and makeup at our fingertips. I picked Shanna for the bridal party's hair after seeing her great work at the wedding of a friend. I knew she was great, but my hair turned out better than I could have imagined! My hair has always been a problem for me. It is stick straight and does nothing. I met with Shanna twice for trials just because I wanted to see what my options were. I ended up with loose waves and lots of volume and it lasted all night - through the dancing and temp/humidity. Really, I never thought my hair could look that good. And Shanna is wonderful to work with and not stressful at all. She runs on time (or early) and is very calm. Additionally, all the bridesmaids loved their hair and they looked fantastic.

Jackie from Hair for a Special Affair worked with me for my bridal hairstyle on my wedding day, and with 3 of our bridesmaids. She was very flexible with people changing their hairstyles, and suggested what she thought would be most flattering for them. She also stuck with the planned hairstyle that we had done during a trial two months before, and I was very happy with the final product. I had a half-up braided hairstyle, which was secured with bobby pins. The style felt secure all night, and I never had to adjust it! Wiggling my veil comb in and out was no problem. My makeup artist suggested Shanna who owns Hair for a Special Affair to do my hair for the wedding. The ladies had worked together before and Natasha assured me that Shanna was fantastic. After looking at Shanna's designs on her website, I knew I found the right person. She does such intricate curls in her updos...it's really beautiful.
I had a great initial consult with her and ended up changing my mind a few weeks before the wedding. Shanna was very flexible and assured me that it was not an issue. On the wedding day, she was prepare and ready to go. My hair design was a beautiful half up half down hair style that slimmed my very round face. A word of advice to future brides if you have thin hair like me and either a longer hair look or hair full of volume, consider getting clip-in hair extensions. Shanna gave me some advice on what type of hair extensions get and worked with them the day of the wedding. I loved my wedding day hair and it did not fall apart even through some crazy dancing at the reception.

Shanna did a wonderful job with my hair for my engagement photos and for my wedding. She styled my hair exactly the way I wanted. I wanted some brighter red highlights and she was weary of doing anything bold. You could hardly see the red tint. It's not exactly what I wanted but my hair looked gorgous either way. She also made the bridal parties hair look beautiful for the wedding and used her creativty when some of the bridal party didn't know how they wanted their hair. Her prices were competitive with other companies and just a little more reasonable. She deals directly with the customer, so it is very personal, it isn't a huge company where you talk to a different person everytime you call. Shanna is very polite. Shanna gets back to you right away and always confirms appointments. My Mom was stuck in traffic for hours for the trial and Shanna waited around and answered everytime I called to fill her in of the situation. She also stayed around after she had finished everyones hair to wait for my florist to put a flower in my hair. Part of her services include finding a make up artist and they are contracted through her. One less thing the customer has to worry about. Overall Shanna is awesome and helped make my wedding planning and day worry free.

Shanna did a beautiful job on my hair and six bridesmaids' hair for my wedding. She showed up promptly at the hotel (despite an unexpected traffic detour) and was friendly and professional throughout the morning. Everyone says to schedule in extra time for getting ready because you will inevitably start running late due to hair/makeup, but Shanna finished up exactly on time according to the schedule she sent in advance. And she gave me a seriously gorgeous updo! The only tricky thing for me was communication--it took a couple emails and a voicemail message over the course of two weeks before I was able to get ahold of her to book a trial. There was also some confusion over who was actually going to be working with me--her sister did my trial and mentioned it would be her and maybe one other team member, but it was Shanna herself who showed up (which worked out great for me!). All in all though, her work is outstanding, and she was a wonderful presence the morning of my wedding. She was also a great value, and offered the most reasonable prices of the stylists I considered. Highly recommend.

My only (small) complaint would be that occasionally I would email or call and not hear back for weeks. But in the end, everything was great the day of. But overall, I would highly recommend Hair for a Special Affair and thought the prices were really reasonable!

Shanna and her team are relaxed, lovely to be with and above all talented! I was a picky bride from NYC slightly worried about finding great hair and makeup services on the Eastern Shore. These ladies are top notch. Everyone in my bridal party was thrilled with the results. Pricing is very reasonable.

Shanna did such a lovely job on all of my ladies hair for the wedding, especially my mom's. I was really impressed with her skills. She was flexible and did the hair for a friend who wasn't on the contract at the last minute. She was also very professional and arrived right when she said she would. I would definitely recommend her for your wedding.

Pins to Pearls was the perfect one stop shop for our wedding hair/makeup needs. They came right to my remote venue and got down to business and their work was amazing. Some things I think this business can work on is communication, it took two weeks and ten emails and phone calls to set up a hair trial which at that point was really pushing it close to the wedding date. Also, the final invoice just kept getting messed up/ miscommunication which made me and the artists have to crunch numbers on the day of to figure out what we owed them. If I had to do it again, I would schedule to have them finish an hour+ before they actually need to be done.. my hair wasn't done on time which cut into the limited time we had with the photographer. Other than that I can't speak highly enough about their staff especially Jen; she is a perfectionist, professional , and personable. My veil fell out while putting on my dress and she came back to help fix it.

My mom found Hair for a Special Affair and coordinated with Shanna for my wedding day. From what I was told it sounded like Shanna would be easily accessible for questions, etc, but I never could get her to respond to my emails. It took having my mom email her and, even then, she didn't answer the questions we had.
Another issue I had was that we were having lash application and, though HfaSA was scheduled to arrive mid-morning, I got a call over two hours early saying that they had mis-planned and that I needed to be up and ready for her to pop into the room for the lashes and then leave.

However, when Stephanie, our hairstylist, arrived she was absolutely phenomenal. She was incredibly personable and professional and my bridesmaids, mother and I all really enjoyed working with her. Everyone's hair was gorgeous and held up through the entire day. I definitely recommend working with her, if given the opportunity.

I contracted Hair for a Special Affair for both hair and makeup services for my wedding. For this reason, I really have two reviews -- not one.

Hair: Shanna did a FABULOUS job on my hair and for all of my bridal party. She was on time, efficient, friendly and did beautiful up-do's in the time frame we had determined. For hair services, I would highly recommend her.

Makeup: This was an unfortunate situation. I had decided to use Hair for a Special Affair to also provide makeup services for myself and multiple family members and bridesmaids. The day of the wedding, we started our hair trial and the makeup artist was supposed to arrive an hour later. When the makeup artist still wasn't there after 45 minutes, everyone started getting frazzled, and we couldn't get in touch with her. As it turns out, the makeup artist was in a car accident the morning of my wedding and I was notified by text message that she wasn't going to be able to make it. I absolutely acknowledge that this was a freak occurrence-- however, what happened was disappointing. **Shanna did not have any back up makeup artists.** She called all of her contacts and no one could come. She suggested that we call the local Nordstrom's for help. Luckily we had someone arrive in a pinch, and I ran out to a different salon. Really very stressful and upsetting.

All of that being said-- Shanna did what she could to remedy the issue after the fact. However, I sincerely hope that since this event Hair for a Special Affair has established some kind of on-call system for their brides, and that they will have backup artists, because the unexpected happens.
