We loved working with Brett for our wedding photography! He was so easy to work with and made us feel comfortable with his calm demeanor. He was extremely flexible and accommodating to our scheduling and photo requests , and provided coverage at multiple locations on the day of our wedding. He communicated quickly and effectively with us during our contract and leading up to the wedding. During our event, Brett stuck to the schedule we had set out, and captured the shots we had requested. Other than when we were directly interacting with them, he and his assistant Katie were practically unnoticeable (in a good way), operated in the background and were able to capture all of our special moments throughout the event. Following the wedding, Brett provided our photos (over 900 total) in about 2 weeks! We absolutely love our pictures and have received numerous compliments on how beautiful they are! We highly recommend Brett for his professionalism, positive attitude, and work product!

Brett was the first photographer I met, and after that, I didn't see the point in meeting any others because his style was is unique. I had an Indian-Hindu wedding and my husband is white. Aside from the mixed audience, were lots of unconventional things about the wedding, not to mention that documentary-style photography isn't exactly what I had seen my South Asian peers do. I had a gut instinct about Brett's work being unique and I'm really glad I went with my intuition. He did an engagement shoot, the pre-wedding dance party (sangeet), the ceremony, and reception. The ceremony and reception were a total 10 consecutive hours, and he and his colleague Katie braved 100+ degree heat and really captured the spirit of an Indian-Hindu fusion wedding. He also captured our personalities very well. Hindu ceremonies are very long and complicated (mine was 3 hours), and Brett and Katie had no background for what was happening. They expertly navigated the logistics and nuances of the ceremony and made the whole thing feel so real. Posed photographs were at an absolute minimum because there was so much else going on. In fact, Brett's style is the complete opposite of what I've seen for most South Asian weddings in my network. My husband and I immediately felt at ease because he's a very warm and easy going person. I couldn't have asked for more in terms of quality, value, and aesthetic. If you want truly unique wedding pictures, you should hire Brett.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Brett and Katie!! We had one of those, everything changes at the last minute, weddings, and those two rolled with it like it was nothing! From the beginning, Brett was super easy to work with. He was easy to get in touch with, and quick to respond to any and all questions. He even contacted the church to ensure he and Katie would be within their requirements. The day of our wedding, Katie and Brett worked to make sure we were comfortable and everything in their power went smoothly. They are quick and efficient about family portraits, and everything from there was easy going and relaxed. Whether it was hiking up a hill, playing in the rain, or herding our family members, Katie and Brett were absolutely fantastic! Friends and family mentioned several times how polite, kind and professional they both were, and how they both seemed to be everywhere all at once. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Brett was absolutely perfect as a wedding photographer. He was professional, timely, and went out of his way to capture every detail and help us facilitate our non-traditional wedding (elopement) in Austin. He had never done an elopement, but was incredibly flexible with our easy going planning style. He promptly responded to my inquiries, met us for drinks to discuss our event, and showed up on time, prepared, and (of course) eager to shoot our event. After our ceremony at hotel St. Cecilia, he even drove us around in his own car to take photos around town and had brought along iced bottled water to help keep us comfortable in the heat. We've both been in a ton of weddings, but Brett was the best photographer we've worked with- he matched our easy-going style, all while making sure he captured the details and moments that made our day "ours" and our event so special. With such a small event (Read: Bride, Groom, Officiant, Brett) we were worried it would be awkward spending a few extra hours taking pictures with just the three of us- but Brett is such a friendly guy it really just felt like we were hanging out with a friend.

His demeanor and professionalism are complemented by the excellent images he captures and edits. We cannot recommend Brett enough for anyone needing photography services, and hope to be able to work with him again.

Brett uses a photojournalism approach to photography, and I loved the results. My photos were fantastic, and Brett was great to work with.

We just received our pictures from the wedding and each picture is better than the last! I loved that each moment was captured from the large moments to the small moments. Brett and his team were always on time and responsive. They were somehow able to be at the right place at the right moment throughout the evening. We received our photos faster than expected also!
The best thing about Brett and his team was his calming nature. In the midst of chaos he has the ability to provide a sense of calm to the bride. This was especially evident when I was running behind for my Bridal Shoot.
Our day will be immortalized thanks to Brett's great work!

Brett was so easy-going and flexible to work with! We were an out of town couple but had our wedding in Austin. Our meetings/emails went well, and we were super excited to have him as a photographer. On the wedding day, Brett floated around taking pictures--several people commented on how they didn't even notice him. He catches some excellent shots too! We love his photojournalism style, and had so much fun looking through our wedding photos just a few weeks later! The wedding day is such a blur, and Brett takes the perfect photos to look back upon and remember all the special moments! He is a little more expensive but his professionalism and quality and number of pictures is worth it--plus part of your funds go to helping empowering charities and organizations around the world :)

Hiring Brett was one of the best decisions I made in planning our wedding. He was so accomodating in working with me being an out of town bride. His personality is so calm and cool, he was such a great person to have around for the whole wedding. He was great at planning the vision I had for our wedding and executed it perfectly! I work with professional fashion photographers everyday, and when I asked them to look at his work and consult on my decision he was the only photographer that got their blessing! I had so much positive feedback about him and his team after the wedding from our friends and family as well.

Brett is an incredible photographer and an incredible guy. He was extremely responsive and flexible when we were constantly making last-minute changes to the photography package we got from him and he was 100% professional before, during, and after the wedding. I highly recommend!

We only wish there were 10 stars to give Brett! From the first meeting, Brett was professional, informative and extremely responsive to questions or concerns. In the craziness of the week before the wedding, he initiated contact, which was greatly appreciated. With so many details to keep track of, having him check in with me was reassuring and a nice relief. He was exactly on time on our wedding day and ready for action. I was concerned at first about how I would feel with a camera there in the intimate moments. That's of course what we love about his photojournalist style, but the idea of a camera following you about all day was a little worrisome. How wrong was I! Brett made everyone feel so comfortable. No one held back any emotion, afraid that they might get caught on camera. Brett had this wonderful way of being present and being invisible at the same time. If there was a photo I knew I wanted him to get, he was there in a second's notice. He was also great about getting the more posed photos that family requested, and had a way of making them feel less stuffy. Get ready though! One can't be too vain when going with this style of photography...Brett captures it all! The double-chinned smiles, the funky, hilarious moves on the dance floor. But that was what made our photography so incredible. seeing the photos truly was like reliving our day, which was worth every penny!

Brett was wonderful to work with. I thought that his prices were appropriate and the final product was amazing. He captured my wedding perfectly. Not only was he professional, but many of my wedding guests commented about how he was not invasive at all. I would definitely reccommend him to anyone needing wedding photography.

Brett was great. His pictures were natural, candid, and beautiful. He was professional and captured our wedding perfectly. I could not have asked for anything more.

He did a few posed shots and they came out great (not anything cheesy).

Oh and we flew him to our location (Costa Rica).

Brett is an excellent photographer and one that every bride should consider having by her side on her special day. We were extremely picky about our photography choice and Brett's images are exactly what we were looking for. We had a traditional Indian wedding and at first were slightly apprehensive about picking a photographer that had not shot an Indian wedding before. However, that was well put to rest after meeting Brett, and definitely wasn't an issue after we saw his amazing pictures! Brett is patient and calm - just what a bride needs on her crazy day! He's also able to take a lot of great shots without being intrusive of wedding festivities. He also made quite the impression with our guests! His pictures really captured the essence of the Indian wedding, the sentiments expressed by our guests, the energy in the room, and the craziness on the dancefloor! There's not a shot that he missed and I can't stop staring at the amazing images that document our very special weekend. He's also incredibly fast - we got our images within a week! You will definitely not be disappointed if you pick him. He will do a stellar job, I'm sure of it!

Brett Buchanan is awesome, plain and simple. He handled our wedding in Costa Rica with the highest amount of flexibility, grace and professionalism. Our wedding was broken out into many separate events across many venues and locations, all of which he navigated superbly and never missed an opportunity. As a one-man show, he was like God with his "everywhere at once" presence, always capturing the stuff that mattered. Brett exhibits intense creativity the way he frames out the shots and artistically brings various subjects in and out of focus. His images were sharp, vibrant and tasteful. Also, his editing is superb ... the great majority of the images he captured were keepers. We recommend Brett Buchanan without the slightest bit of reservation.

Brett is amazing to work with. He brings a sense of confidence to the wedding where you know you can relax because you are in good hands. He also pays close attention to details and photographs things you might have missed. With that he also takes direction very well so even if you want to be silly he makes you feel relaxed. I had a blast having Brett as my photographer and I loved the way the pictures came out (and I'm very picky)!

Brett is amazingly talented - he was very unobtrusive, and at the same time managed to get shots that captured both the formality and the emotions of the day. When we looked over the photos together for the first time, my husband and I laughed, cried and felt the awe of our wedding day all over again. We couldn't have asked for a better photographer for our wedding! Brett was very professional and helpful right from the beginning. He was the first photographer we spoke with, and we liked him so much that we didn't need to talk with anyone else.
Brett photographed every aspect of our wedding day, starting at the salon. He was super easy going, and by the end of the night it felt like he was one of our friends that we invited to the wedding. He took tons of really wonderful pictures, and was always willing to take any photos we requested. We would definitely recommend Brett as photographer. He is fabulous!!

He was there for us all day, we rarely ever saw him or Sharon, though. The photos came out so beautifully. They were everywhere, always and not noticeable. We are so pleased with it all.

I am a passinate amateur photographer myself and took some time researching several photographer. At the end I was really impressed with the result delivered by Brett Buchanan. Beyond the quality of hos photos he excelled at capturing the essence and spirit of a nn-traditional wedding. While maintaining the spirit of wedding photography (preparation, focus on the venue, ceremony, etc.) he succesfully combined it with a touch of photojournalism and creativity making the result truly unique...

Brett was our photographer this past April, and I can't say enough good things about him! The reason I chose him to begin with is that I liked his style - he's got a great photojournalistic/documentary style. He did get the posed family pictures like I requested, but he also got the shots that I never would have seen. And from such great angles - it was art!

I researched my vendors like crazy before I booked, and I rely alot on my gut feeling. Brett was so great at accommodating any requests I had - I even sent him a list beforehand of sample shots I wanted so we would be on the same page. One of my best friends and my sister-in-law both spent way more than I did on their wedding photographs and everyone who has seen my wedding pictures (including those two) have raved at how good they turned out!

My advice - invest in a good photographer because the day will be a blur and you'll use the photos to catch up on everything you missed!! haha And I'm not rich either - I had a budget to stick to because my husband and I were paying for it, but I made the centerpieces myself, cut back on some flowers, bought the tablecloths from Sams (which was cheaper than even renting them!) and got a great deal on a custom-made dress. But you've gotta decide what is most important to you and make a list going down to what is least important and budget that way. It was very important to me to have Brett as our photographer.

Anyway, hope I didn't ramble too long! I'm sure you've checked out his website - it's awesome!

Not only is Brett a charismatic and intelligent person I enjoyed working with but he is a truly gifted photographer who has an act for catching the way a wedding feels and not just the way it looks.

We decided to go with a cheap videographer and I can tell you that Brett's photos are all I care about and the video makes the wedding look boring. I guess it could have been boring but Brett's photos made it look magical the way it felt. I'm sure my wife would be able to articulate it better than I if you need more info.

I also appreciated how Brett handled the business side of contracts and such and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of. He was a straight shooter from the beginning and that's hard to find. I felt like he was a wedding guest as well as my photographer. Five out of Five stars for Mr. Buchanan.

I could not ask for a better photography with a greater price. Brett charges (or he at least charged) a flat $2000 and this included unlimited hours of pictures... I could not find anybody else who would do this! Unlimited hours! He arrived hours before the ceremony and stayed until the last guest left.. or so I heard. He took incredible pictures, very artistic and unique. He has an eye for beauty in sweet places. And he's a great, dependable, sweet guy! Very easy to work with. Very personable. Would recommend to anyone!

We had an OUTSTANDING experience working with Brett. He had a great attitude and was highly flexible and accommodating of our schedule, approach and style. Pictures turned out beautiful as well.

If we were to do it all over again, the one thing we might have done differently would be discuss and plan the various posed shoots and share our 'wish list' with Brett so he could help ensure we got all the shots we wanted/needed.

Brett was simply fantastic. We felt immediately at ease with him as soon as we met. On the day of the wedding, he arrived before me to the ceremony site, and captured all the moments from chair-set up up through after our departure, but at no point did either he or his assistant ever feel intrusive or in the way. They were friendly yet completely professional and incredibly hard-working. We got so many compliments on his photography - the angles, the colors, the energy. And this may seem like a small point, but his website (which you'll use a lot to look at the proofs) is so easy, clean-lined, and intuitive to use. I recommend him *highly*.

Brett is the a fantastic photographer, especially for weddings. He makes everyone feel comfortable to be natural while getting great shots. I can't stop looking at the photos. The turnaround time is amazing. I was able to see all the proofs online within days of the wedding.

Brett provided a great photojournalistic approach to our wedding. He and his assistant began shooting in the early afternoon and captured great images of each of us getting ready with our friends. These candid shots ranged from pool side images to beauty parlor shots. They covered the ceremony, worked with us to get all the formal pics done in a timely matter because it was 95 degrees out. Some of the best pics came at our dinner and reception. Brett was able to get up close for a lot of great shots without feeling intrusive. Highly recommended.

This review is for Brett, who did our engagement photos, and his assistant Katie Hayes Luke, who did our wedding day photos as Brett was unavailable for our date (Brett still edited all images and handled all e-mails). Brett was awesome and super friendly. He took a ton of great engagement photos that we really liked and we felt as comfortable around him as possible considering the awkwardness of the whole engagement shoot situation. The photos are high quality and very sweet.

Katie also took high-quality photos of our wedding. While we are very pleased with the quality, we were pretty disappointed with the selection/quantity of photos she took. We were originally given 389 final photos, despite the contract stating that we would receive *at least* 400. And, there were many moments and details from the wedding day that were not reflected in her photos. We have no photos of our guests dancing, no photos of our guestbook, no photos of several wildflower centerpieces we created, no photos of our family at the reception, and no photos of the live band playing together.

This was especially disappointing because when we met with Katie beforehand, she mentioned that it probably wouldn't be necessary to keep her longer than the 6 hours we originally hired her for because "all the dancing photos can get kind of old." But she didn't end up having any dancing photos at all. When she had been shooting for 6 hours the day of the wedding, she let me know that our time was up. She did not tell us that she hadn't had a chance to get some good reception photos, so we let her go home.

I let Brett know that we were expecting at least 400 photos as stated in the contract and noted some of the things we would like to have included that were missing. It took him a while to respond to that and he didn't offer an explanation. But he did send us about 20 more photos about a week later, but those were unfortunately "repeats" of moments/details already included and they weren't photos that were any better than the ones we already had (another way to put it, we understood why he hadn't included them in the first batch). The only explanation is that Katie simply didn't take any photos of the missing moments/details.

All in all, Brett is a great photographer and tries very hard to be great at his job by doing the best photographing job he can. Katie didn't quite deliver what we had hoped... I would recommend Brett for engagements and weddings. If you're thinking about hiring Katie, I would suggest hiring two photographers, paying her to stay later, or expressing clearly what you want to see in the photos. If quality were the only part of the puzzle, I'd give them 5 stars hands down. But unfortunately selection and quantity are also very important.
