WOW! Boston Event Lighting hit it out of the park! We wanted our wedding day to have a candlelit/twinkly light feel and were concerned about having too many lights. However, Boston Event Lighting ensured that our vision came to life and made all the lights used a yellow hue and dimmable. The turned out AMAZING and we were in awe as to the difference great lighting can make. They were extremely easy to work with and accommodating to our postponement as well, which we greatly appreciate. We highly recommend them! -

We went with Boston Event Lighting for our hotel ballroom wedding reception, and it was absolutely the best investment we made. They are very communicative, and when we had some details change re: reception room, they were flexible and worked with us. The execution was simply STUNNING. So many guests came up to us saying how they loved the lighting in the room. I can't recommend their team enough!!! -

Amazing job lighting our small venue
We were absolutely thrilled with the lighting done by BEL; Fritz and James did an incredible job, they listened to what we said we wanted and made it look even better than we could have imagined. They also were at the wedding the entire time making sure everything was working, all the lighting changes were happening when they should, etc. I can't recommend them enough! -

James Biller was so great to work with. First off, just great pricing. I felt good about the decision from the get-go because I saw the company had done weddings at some of the nicest venues in Boston and they were familiar with the space at the State Room. The package included delivery and installiation. He was super quick with responding to me and checked in consistently which was great, because this is one of the decisions I kept putting off and it was really stressing me out. He came off very honest and not like he was trying to push other things on me or go out of my budget or overcharge me so I'm very grateful for that. I really just wanted some simple white uplighting. He accomplished this wonderfully in the Great Room at the State Room with a focus on the pillars from all three slides - and he also lit the draping for our ceremony. He did some additional uplighting to fill the room out and it made all the difference! He planned a little programming when the dance music got going too with little direction from us (awesome) - and chatted with the band to do their lighting for them! Great experience - highly recommend! -

Ron B. Sent on 01/04/2017Boston Event Lighting and Films produced two videos of our bands, Clockwork Boston and Clockwork New England. They were fantastic to work with, and the final product was much more than we ever envisioned. We gave them full creative control over which angles to shoot, what colors and lights to use in the video, and what songs/shots were to be used in the final edited videos. They were spot-on! They even brought a drone camera to the shoot (which we didn't know about prior) to get some really creative shots. I will definitely use them again for other video projects in the future, and would encourage anyone else to do the same! -

As displayed in photographs, the extra lighting and color really added dimension and that special something to the tent/pavilion; there is something about lighting that helps create the perfect ambiance! Boston Event Lighting did a fantastic job of making our bistro lighting dreams come true! We got married at the CRMII in Waltham and knew we needed to have lights strung in the space - it complimented it so nicely! We worked with James, who was great! The only thing was that I had asked for a receipt of payment and didn't get a reply for quite some time. James really made up for it by offering to give us some extra lights strung for no charge, which we SO appreciated! Thank you for making our day so special!! -

We used Boston Event Lighting to add bistro lighting across our wedding venue. They were not my first choice, but we got married on a holiday so vendor choices were limited.
They were terrible at communicating through the entire process. Any question I had, I had to email them multiple times and it often still took them months to respond. I had to find a cellphone number and call them to figure out how to pay out final invoice.
They were slow to set up which caused a lot of disruption with our first look and other vendors setting up. They dropped a ladder on our bar during set up and broke a case of glasses. And overall they were not considerate of us or our vendors.
They were the only vendor we booked that we were disappointed it. The lighting looked beautiful in the end, but overall I would not recommend using them for your wedding lighting if you can find other options. -

I genuinely wanted to write a glowing review for BEL and the work they did for our wedding at The Olio this past April. Unfortunately, I can't ignore how disappointed I was with their overall execution and communication.
Lighting was one of the few elements of our wedding my husband truly cared about—and entrusted to BEL. We contracted them to provide three key lighting features: a large custom GOBO sign, pin lights for 12 tables to highlight our floral centerpieces, and a disco ball to enhance the ambiance.
To be fair, the disco ball was executed beautifully. It created the exact mood we were hoping for and truly added to the atmosphere of the evening. That, however, is where the praise ends.
The pin lighting was a major letdown. Despite several conversations with Jason, Fritz, and the BEL team about our expectations—particularly that the pin lights should spotlight our centerpieces for optimal visual impact in person, in photos, and in video—the results fell drastically short. The lighting was virtually invisible throughout the event. It failed to appear in our professional photos and videos, and not a single guest I spoke to recalled even noticing it. I specifically chose this lighting to elevate the look of the tables I had spent a great deal of time and money curating. That effort was completely lost.
I reached out post-wedding to get clarity, and instead of accountability, I was met with blame. Their response was that I didn’t book a lighting tech with my package. But isn’t that the reason we hire professionals—to ensure our vision is executed properly? At no point during the planning process did they offer meaningful guidance or advise me on the limitations or considerations of pin lighting. Instead, it felt like I was being upsold, rather than truly supported. A simple conversation about whether pin lighting would achieve the look I wanted could have saved me nearly $1,000 and a lot of disappointment.
As for the custom GOBO, it was initially projected in a way that was visually unappealing—cropped and too small. Thankfully, we caught this during a private venue walkthrough and were able to correct it ourselves before guests arrived. That should not have been our responsibility.
To any future couples considering BEL: be extremely specific. Ask every question imaginable. Do not assume that you're hiring a team who will take ownership of helping bring your vision to life. In our case, what we received felt incomplete and careless—all because we declined to hire a lighting technician for the day. We expected a professional service. Instead, we received bare-minimum effort.
