The best caterer!
We got married at the Grand Estate at Hidden Acres on September 6. The Chef and I were one of the preferred vendors for catering for our venue. My now husband and I did a tasting with them and brought my parents and were immediately convinced they were the perfect fit for our wedding. We ended up doing a buffet with served salads and fresh rolls on the table. The buffet consisted of chef-carved beef with horseradish and au jus, chicken romano, penne pasta with tomato and basil, green beans almondine, and smashed potatoes with asiago and herbs. The Chef and I staff served my husband and I at the sweetheart table and checked in to see if we wanted any additional food when we finished. All of the food was delicious, and our guests still talk about it! We paid them to handle replenishment of our Pittsburgh cookie table, and had a pretzel bites as a late night snack. They packaged any leftover food and cookies for us to take home the next day. They even went above and beyond and decorated the front of the buffet trays with bows in our wedding colors! Their communication, professionalism, and service was amazing. Catering costs can end up being overwhelming, but the Chef and I were reasonably priced, without sacrificing any quality. From start to finish, we had a great experience with the Chef & I!

Chef and I Wedding Catering
Our wedding was over 200 people and the night went perfectly! All of our guests after the wedding said it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding! Nikki and the Chef & I staff were incredible through out the wedding planning process especially on the wedding day! We highly recommend their catering for weddings and large events.

Wonderful!
We recently used Chef & I catering for our son’s wedding and the experience exceeded our expectations. After a private tasting, the couple had decided to have a stations event featuring pasta bars (made to order), salad, mashed potatoes, cheesesteak, and taco stations. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Chef & I handled everything associated with dinner. They complete setup at least a day prior to the event that included tablecloths, napkins, glasses, and flatware. During the dinner hour, the stations were well stocked with delicious, freshly prepared food as well as with pleasant staff. Throughout the event, staff replenished the Pittsburgh Cookie Table and assisted with a late night snack of kettle corn! The Chef & I staff were pleasant and efficient; they seemed genuinely happy to help. We would highly recommend Chef & I Catering for any event needing high quality, flavorful, affordable food.

Delicious and Affordable!
The Chef and I was exactly what we were looking for in a wedding caterer. We worked with Nikki who was very organized and quick to answer our emails and phone calls. Everything at the wedding was perfect; the staff was so friendly and we got so many compliments on how delicious the food was. The Chef and I was also much more affordable than anywhere else we looked into, but you wouldn't be able to tell based on the quality. We definitely recommend them!

The only perfect performance
Every vendor at our wedding messed up in some way, except for the Chef and I catering.
We loved their Asiago Mashed potatoes and their Bruschetta, but all the food was outstanding.
Do a tasting to find your perfect event dinner, everything we tried was good. The catering on the day of the wedding was even better then the tasting.

Delicious food and kind service
Our experience with The Chef and I Catering exceeded our expectations! Everything was organized and there were no issues. Joe and I enjoyed our dinner very much and so many of our guests told us specifically how much they loved their meal - especially the chicken! In fact, we ate our leftovers the next Sunday night for dinner as we still had a lot of people in town and it was still delicious! I was recommended The Chef and I from another bride from the Grand Estate and I would do the same for the next person looking for a caterer for their wedding.

Great to work with

Unique Food and Great Service
The Chef and I were courteous and professional from day 1. An excellent tasting followed by clear expectations about services and pricing. They helped accommodate a smaller wedding than they usual cater for, which was appreciated. There are also numerous gluten-free options which was a bonus to many in our friend and family group.
The food itself was phenomenal (smashed potatoes with flavor from a wedding caterer??). They also had some options I hadn't seen from other vendors before (their tandoori chicken appetizers were what finally sold us on them).
Reception service went off without a hitch, and that was after a cocktail hour with passed apps that guest raved about.
Good price for the quality and service. Would recommend them to anyone.

Amazing food with even better service
Their food was absolutely delicious and at reasonable prices! The menu has plenty of diversity and you cannot go wrong with anything you choose. The team was so helpful and easy to work with throughout the planning process. On the day of our wedding, they were professional and made sure the bride and groom were well taken care of during the ceremony. They also provided cocktail hour appetizers to the bridal party to snack on while taking pictures as they knew we would not be attending cocktail hour. My husband and I cannot say enough great things about this company! Definitely a must have for your wedding catering needs!

Delicious and professional!
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about our experience with The Chef and I! Our 160-person plated dinner wedding was flawless and our guests raved about how delicious the food was! They were able to accommodate several different dietary restrictions for our guests and made a couple last-minute adjustments for us when we had an unexpected change! All in all, they were great to work with and delivered a delicious dinner! I’d recommend them to anyone.

Wonderful Experience!
The Chef and I were a part of a few caterers that were partnered with our venue and we chose the Chef and I. Without a doubt we would choose them 100x over. From beginning to end they were wonderful to work with, on time, responsive, and professional. The food was absolutely immaculate. We really enjoyed all of the food at tasting and we thought the final product at our wedding was even better. Everyone absolutely raved and still raves about the food and how good it was. The servers the night of our wedding were pleasant and on top of everything. The linens were delivered in a timely fashion, not to interfere with setting up. Everything about the Chef and I was an absolute 10/10 and I would recommend them to anyone!

August Wedding
The Chef and I catered our daughter’s wedding in August. The food was delicious! They were very professional. Communications was excellent, they always responded promptly and were very helpful when I had alot of questions. They were detailed oriented and by the time the wedding arrived, I didn’t worry at all that they would do a great job, and they did. They had all the fine details taken care of! Coordinating between the venue and caterer was very smooth. Overall, I would highly recommend for any catered event.

Excellent Wedding Catering
Nikki was great to work with while planning the catering for our wedding. Our menu tasting was thorough and detail-oriented, and we appreciated all the thought that went into it. We had a few guests at our wedding with dietary needs (gluten-free, vegetarian), and they were well-accommodated. We were so pleased with the quality of the food, as well. We thought the food on the day of our wedding was even better than the food at our tasting (which was great, to begin with). We are happily working our way through the leftovers!

Delicious, Responsive and Unique Caterer
We found The Chef and I Catering through our venue (Soldiers & Sailors) because they were one of the preferred vendors. We had communicated with the other preferred caterers and found The Chef and I to be the most affordable and they had great food options! We decided to go with their stations option and everyone has raved about the food and how unique the station idea was. They were very responsive, answered all of our questions, and made the food selection easy. Everything was delicious and I would definitely book them again. Their staff was very attentive, and even helped my husband's grandparents (who are not so mobile) get food. His grandparents felt extra special with the thoughtful consideration from the staff. From start to finish, the process was very easy and YUMMY!

From the initial meetings and logistics to the execution at the wedding to the quality of the food, everything was as amazing as we could have imagined! They were very professional with setup, serving, and cleanup, and their packages that covered a range of food and cost options were perfect. Nikki was also very responsive and accommodating to us anytime we had to make changes to our package, which gave us confidence heading into the wedding day.

The Best Wedding Food Ever!
Our experience with the Chef and I was simply exceptional. When we first went for a tasting, we were received by the friendly staff (to include the kind and personable owner). Then we were blown away by the quality and taste of the food. We thought to ourselves, “No way the food will turn out this good on her actual wedding day when they have to make it in bulk…..” but the Chef and I exceeded our expectations. The food was just as fresh and tasted just as good as it did during the tasting. We feel so blessed to have our wedding catered by them!

Never had better catering!
Thank you so much to The Chef and I for the amazing work they did for our wedding. They were there the night before to set up everything they could to make sure the day of went as smoothly as possible. Nikki answered any questions we had leading up to our wedding and was extremely helpful! THE FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE!! Everyone couldn’t stop raving about the food. The Perfect Caterer for a Perfect Wedding
The Chef and I Catering catered our wedding last weekend at Lingrow Farm and they were absolutely amazing from the food to the staff. Before getting married I had so many people tell me I wouldn't get a chance to eat the food we picked the night of the wedding but their staff did such a great job seeking us out with the appetizers and providing us with our very own platters of it and also filling up plates for us at the buffet so we didn't have to do it ourselves. The food was so good and I had so much of it I was struggling to finish what was on my plate. We got so many compliments from our guests on how great the food was as well.
Not only were they great the day of the wedding but in all the steps leading up. They were great at communicating and helping with the timing of events and helping us to come up with the perfect menu for the event working around food restrictions for some of the guests as well. When we went to do the tasting with them we had selected some things we wanted to try and they had added the Chicken Romano for us to try as it is a customer favorite. We absolutely loved it and are so grateful for the recommendation! We have also been enjoying leftovers all week and look forward to more of the chicken for dinner tonight!
I am so glad we had them as our caterers and I am so grateful to them for helping to make our wedding perfect!

We did a station style service with five separate stations for guests to choose from. All feedback we received was that the food was fantastic. Great food, great staff
The Chef and I catered our wedding at Soldiers and Sailors on April 16, 2022. Our experience with them was outstanding. I have celiac disease (as well as a number of our guests), and they were able to provide options for us. We had raving reviews from guests about how great the food was, too. We also included a late night snack option, which was a huge hit. Nikki was great to work with and highly responsive. I highly recommend!

Full-service caterer that will put you at ease
We worked with The Chef & I for our wedding at Soldiers & Sailors in early 2022, and everything went beautifully. We sought quotes from a few different caterers, and what we liked about The Chef & I was how transparent and straightforward they were: everything you'd need for a catered meal was included in their total cost (linens, flatware, servers, etc.), and available alternatives and upgrades were all clearly listed in the contract. They were great at handling extras, including a complicated cookie table (ours had baklava in addition to the traditional Pittsburgh treats) and a delivery of 16 pizzas late at night from our local pizzeria. Most importantly, everyone loved the dinner, and The Chef & I did a very professional job of ensuring that every guest's allergies and dietary restrictions were accounted for.

Outstanding & delicious!
The food was incredibly delicious! We received so many compliment of how flavorful and tender the beef and chicken were. I highly recommend the Chef and I catering for your wedding. Hands down the best! Nikki, the coordinator, was very responsive and answered all of my questions and concerns. The day before and of the wedding the staff was professional and kept things moving smoothly. We had our wedding at a venue where we were responsible for everything. THE.VERY.BEST! The Chef & I Catering are the MVPs in Pittsburgh. Planning a wedding during a pandemic had it's challenges, but The Chef & I, especially Kris & Nikki, made sure to always make me feel like we would pivot if needed. We got married at Soldiers & Sailors and received SO many compliments about the food and portions. We are a 100% Italian family so food is my family's baby and my parents, my fiancé, & I couldn't have been more pleased :)

Wonderful Wedding Caterer!
We had Chef & I cater our wedding at Soldiers & Sailors and everything was delicious and smoothly run! They were one of the preferred caterers for the venue and after researching many of them, we chose Chef & I because of their responsiveness, helpful information, many packages/options to customize and fit many budgets. The tasting was very thorough and professional and everything was delicious! We had a seated, plated meal of Filet and Chicken Romano. Guests are still raving about how wonderful the food was! They have a wonderful staff and management team, would highly recommend!

We couldn't have asked for a better caterer! The Chef and I Catering went above and beyond to make our day so special and stress free for us. They were all so professional and easy to work with. The food... my husband and I could eat it everyday! So good and flavorful!! (Our favorite is the chicken romano) they are willing to help out in any way they can to make your day worry free and go smoothly. They were great at reaching out to us and communicating. All of our guests raved about the food. They even made us a to go dinner for later or the next day! Elegant and Delicious!!

The staff at Chef and I Catering was helpful, responsive, and easy to work with, and the food was delicious and affordable. After tasting the food, we decided on the option with stations. Chef & I at Soldiers & Sailors
Nikki and Kristopher were absolutely amazing to work with. Our wedding at soldiers and sailors memorial was GORGEOUS and effortless because of them. Nikki is so professional and organized. Both Nikki and Kristopher were so easy to get in touch with any time we needed to chat during the wedding planning process. They communicated at the beginning of our contract the dates that they would check in with us, and they checked in right on schedule every single time! I felt so confident everything was going to be taken care of, I didn't feel any stress the day of the wedding. Nikki made sure everything was beautifully set up on the day before the wedding and Kristopher checked in with me several times during cocktail hour to make sure we had enough appetizers in the board room and everything was flowing according to plan. The food was absolutely AMAZING and came out hot and at the exact right time it was supposed to come out. The room was served in less than 10 minutes for almost 150 guests. It was amazing working with the Chef & I and I HIGHLY recommend them to Soldier's & Sailors brides.

I am so happy we chose the Chef and I for our caterer. Their food was so tasty, nice large portions, and they were very easy to work with and so professional with everything. We chose filet and chicken... no joke... the chicken is the must flavorful chicken i've ever had in my life. my parents, who are not "chicken" people (they dont order chicken at restaurants, more of fish and filet type) ... they both picked the chicken at the wedding because of how good it was. I also had SO many people rave to me on how good the food was. The filet was cooked PERFECT and everyting had so much flavor. People do not rave about food if it was mediocre or decent or "normal" ... that's how you know it was good.

Chef & I Catering from the start blew us away! We really loved the food when we went for our tasting and they added so many touches to our experience there really was no other choice. We discussed everything and they went over all our options with us so we were crystal clear on what was being served, how, when, and on what dish ware. They were great working with us on the linens and for cocktail hour as well. As the bride of course you change your mind a million times on the colors lol they were so patient with us! We were in constant contact with them leading up to the wedding and they were attentive to all our needs and concerns. The food at dinner was absolutely amazing, hot, and delicious. So many people came up to us to tell us how good the food was, that it was the best beef they have ever had and the mash potatoes were to die for, and many other appreciate complements. We would highly recommend them because their service and food was exceptional and our guests were overwhelmed with their dinners. We had an unconventional Indian/American fusion wedding. We had difficulty finding a caterer who would suit our needs AND meet our budget. I first met with Denny and he was flexible with our plans to customize the menu. He patiently talked me through the pros and cons of different styles of service (buffet, plated, stations) to help me decide the right one for us. We had a tasting in December and the food was good and at a fantastic price. Everything was set. Then I got a call this past Friday from a man named Kris, saying the Chef and I had merged with his company A Grand Affair, so now he owns both under one umbrella. He reassured me that quality would be the same, if not better, my menu wouldn't change, and everything on our contract was still valid. He offered a second tasting for reassurance purposes. I live out of state and by chance was going to be in town that very weekend. Kris bent over backwards to rally the troops and had a lovely tasting that Sunday morning, with less than 48 hrs' notice from the time I found out about the change in ownership. He was right: everything was as good and much was even better! Kris explained a few improvements he had made and why, and I was so pleased. He was really easy to work with and bent over backwards to accommodate and stay in touch. What could have been a very stressful situation worked out to be even better than I had planned! The food was divine at the tasting and I can't wait to work with Kris, Denny, and the rest of the crew next month.
Update, post-wedding: I'm SO pleased with The Chef & I! Our August 2017 wedding was great and we got lots of compliments on the food, especially the "Pittsburgh station", which had stuffed cabbage and pierogi. They made sure to save us some appetizers in the bridal suite and left us TONS of well-packaged leftovers at the end of the night. The price was excellent for the quality. I'd definitely recommend this caterer.

When I was viewing a venue, I saw staff from Chef & I setting up for a wedding that day. I found a business card on one of the tables, and gave them a call a few days later. I highly recommend the sweet & sour meatballs for the cocktail hour - I think one of my groomsmen ate an entire bowl of them!
Chef & I Catering made sure that the head table was treated like royalty - We came in and had food from the cock tail hour waiting for us, champagne for toasting, and we were serviced by the wait staff. I was very happy with the service of the wait staff on the day of the wedding.
Denny kept in contact and made sure that we had every detail mapped out and that every question was answered. I was so grateful to have a vendor who was on top of communication! If I ever need a catering service again, I will definitely be using Chef & I!

I live in Florida and picked this Catering based on a friend's recommendation. This Vendor deserves more than only 5 Stars!!! My husband and I can honestly say that we had the best experience with The Chef & I catering for our wedding. Denny, Vikki and Chef Rey were all wonderful to work with, and people are still talking about the amazing food! Our reception was held at Laube Hall in Freeport in June, and we had approximately 250 guests to serve which we were afraid of how time consuming it would be. The Chef &I had everyone served in less than 20 minutes! The tables were set perfectly, and the linens, table settings and decor were beautiful! Denny responded quickly to any questions or concerns we had throughout the planning process, and overall made everything stress-free for that day! They were the first caterer we met with, and we enjoyed the tasting so much we didn't want to look anywhere else. I highly recommend The Chef & I to anyone who has recently been engaged because I want them to have the same wonderful experience as we did!

We had a really fantastic experience with The Chef and I. They are very easy to work with, affordable, professional, and high quality. Upon our initial inquiry, Denny was very responsive and took the time to learn about the kind of event we wanted. We had multiple conversations throughout the planning process during which Denny reviewed details to make sure we had all of our bases covered. This was very reassuring as we were figuring out the planning process as we were going. All of the staff are very personable and professional, and my family commented on how much they enjoyed meeting and talking with Chef Rey at the event. We had a variety of dietary preferences and requirements, including meat lovers, vegetarians, and guests with Celiac Disease, and the Chef and I was able to easily accommodate all needs with one menu. We received many compliments on the food! Overall, we are extremely satisfied with The Chef and I Catering and are so happy we chose them for our event!

We hired The Chef and I Catering for our wedding and we couldn't have been happier with the decision! The entire process of working with "The Chef and I" was extremely easy and fun. From the time we first met for our food tasting to the day of the wedding, the caterer was very thorough in making sure we got exactly what we wanted. The food they cooked for us was absolutely delicious and we got many compliments from our guests. They even helped offer food for guests that had food allergies which was a nice touch. I cannot say enough good things about everyone at the Chef and I Catering. They were the first caterer that we met with, and we loved them so much that we never even met with anyone else. Denny was great at providing recommendations and responding to emails. When we went in for our tasting, they even remembered that I was a vegetarian and had extra things for me to try since I wouldn't be able to sample many of the menu items. We ended up going with stations and people raved about the food! The food quality was great, and their prices can't be beat. Plus, their service is exceptional. Truly the best.

Denny is great! He and his staff are super flexible and worked closely with us to build the perfect menu! He was also a straight shooter and didn't try to up sell us on anything. He actually helped us find ways to save money which I thought was really genuine! He was also just a super sweet guy in general. The food was INCREDIBLE- our guests were raving about it all night. They had all of our delicious leftovers packed up for us with sweet notes! I would pick them over and over again!!!

Chef and I catered our December 2015 wedding - and we couldn't be happier with our decision to hire them. They were super responsive and helpful through the whole process. They really went above and beyond to make the day stress free for us. Plus the food was awesome! We got lots of compliments from our guests, and we got to enjoys leftovers after - which was a nice bonus since a lot of other caterers don't offer that. I found out afterwards that they even went out of their way to make sure my sister in law with a food allergy had enough to eat (I hadn't asked for this ahead of time, figured she could fend for herself - but was super nice of them to accommodate her, totally unexpected).

Let me just start by saying my husband and I really like to eat good food. What makes or breaks most weddings for us is the menu. So given that, coupled with the fact that we had a budget on the smaller side, I was worried we weren't going to be able to afford a caterer that was also satisfying to our palate. Those worries were put to rest the first time we met with The Chef and I. Denny was wonderful to talk to at our first meeting, and we got to try every dish we were interested in. From the moment we tasted our first bite, we were hooked. The food was seriously wonderful, and our least expensive option by far! They absolutely exceeded our expectations by far on quality and taste of food, as well as budget. After our first meeting, we had everything decided except our second entree. We were able to come back a second time and try another entree for no charge. And although we were just tasting the entree, we were served an entire meal. Once we signed our contract, Denny was very responsive to emails and willing to work with us on anything. Two weeks before the wedding, he called me and we went over every single detail, which was incredibly reassuring. Once the big day arrived, I had no stress that what we had planned was going to occur without a hitch. The service was great and the food was delicious. People were raving about it all night (and still are). You will not go wrong if you choose The Chef and I for your wedding catering.

Denny and chef Rae were so fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed working with them from the first email until the follow up after the wedding. Denny is prompt and very professional when corresponding. I was very specific with my requests and they did not let me down. Denny was able to work with our budget and even then, the food was absolutely fantastic! I've been to a lot of weddings and while I would say our food was the among the best, our guests confirmed that the food was superb! The wait staff was kind, energetic and eager to please...which was so nice on such a stressful day. The entire team did a wonderful job!

Chef and I catering in Freeport, PA. is the way to go for all of your catering needs. Denny is very professional, affordable, and knowledgable. He listens to you wants and needs and is very straightforward with what he can do. His staff is excellent! His chef is world class! The food, decor, and them being there every step of the way made our wedding day that much more spectacular. If you decide to go with the Chef and I catering, that will be one less headache that you will have with wedding planning. They make the catering part easy and stress free. I strongly recommend them!

I used Chef and I Catering for our wedding on 8/8/15, the staff there were so professional throughout the whole process. They helped with every single aspect of our wedding, including setting up the timeline of the day so that everything ran smoothly. I have had their food at many weddings that I have been to so there was no doubt that were going to choose them. I had such a nice time tasting all of the delicious foods for the tasting, it was a hard choice for what we were going to pick for the big day as everything was so good. They are very reasonable priced and set up different plans for different budgets which was a nice thing. I would highly recommend them and will be using them if an event calls for it.

Everything about Chef & I was wonderful. It absolutely added to our special day. The Staff/Food and Portions were amazing in all aspects. The options were tough, I didn't know exactly which I wanted, so I honestly ate some of it all ha ha. I made a plate and ate more later, shhhhh don't tell my wife ;)

Denny and his team are AMAZING! They are so easy to work with. Our venue was in Oakland, and was not the easiest in terms of accessibility, but The Chef & I made it work, and it was flawless. Our guests are still talking about how fantastic their food was. Denny is also willing to work with you and your budget. It was important for my husband and I to stay within our budget, and Denny made that possible, without cutting back on the variety or quality of food. He also has helpful suggestions as to what foods travel best (since our venue was a little far from their kitchen,). My husband and I highly recommend The Chef & I.

The Chef & I Catering was a total win in my wedding planning book!
Denny was fantastic to work with and did anything he could to accommodate me and stay within my budget at that same time. He touched base with me throughout the 8 month leading up to my wedding making sure I knew all was in order and we were on the same page.
Most importantly, my guests raved about the food, and there was plenty of it. No one left my reception hungry.
His staff was punctual, friendly and very professional. I would recommend them to anyone who asks me.

When searching for a caterer we really were looking for somewhere that had great food and would be able to handle flipping the room from the Ceremony to the Reception and of course price was a factor as well. I can honestly say that Chef & I not only delivered our three expectations they far surpassed them. The food was AMAZING! It has been 6 months since our wedding and we still have friends and family talk to us about how good the food was. It was truly restaurant quality, not your typical wedding quality.
They were also very organized and prepared for the flip and made it so smooth. Not only did they perform the flip quickly and flawlessly, they had enough time to take pictures on our Wedpic app of the venue and the tables. This was unexpected and a great surprise.
We have recommended Chef & I to any engaged couple we meet. I honestly don't think there is a better catering company in Pittsburgh. They give you the time and attention you need at a great price with fantastic food that will have your guests asking for seconds, or maybe even thirds.

Denny and his crew are OUTSTANDING!! Our wedding went off without a hitch and I owe to this catering service. From the moment we met Denny and his team it was like they really cared about us and our big day. They are so easy to get a hold of and respond quickly to any questions you may have. From the first meeting and the free food tasting....we knew the Chef & I Catering was for us!! Professional, helpful, and out of this world food. As the mother of the bride, I had many, many questions and all my emails and phone calls were answered promptly and I felt like I was talking to my best friend. Denny and his staff were wonderful to work with. They were available to answer any questions along the way and always responded quickly and gave valuable insight and suggestions.
We had the stations at our daughter's the wedding and the guests just loved the arrangement. It was a great way to inter-act with different folks through out the dinner hour. And the food was delicious!! Everyone really raved about the menu and the service....great food and lovely presentation!
