About

Cecil Green Park House is a mansion wedding venue located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Resplendent and regal, this oceanside venue boasts a diverse array of places to host your wedding celebrations. Well-maintained gardens, lush green grounds, and elegant interiors combine to create a setting worthy of an unforgettable occasion.

Facilities and Capacity

A wedding party suite is available for those who would like to get ready on site. Alternatively, it can be used for attire changes or for freshening up. With the happy couple and all of their guests suitably dressed and ready for the milestone moment, the ceremony can take place at Cecil Green Park House. A couple of suitable options can be utilized. The first of these is to say “I do” in the garden. This secluded and colourful place features marvelous natural additions such as rhododendrons, magnolias, and pretty cherry blossom trees. A koi pond is also here, adding serenity to the scene. Chairs can be set out on the lawn as your guests take their seats to watch you exchange vows. Elsewhere, a sheltered terrace can be used as an alternative spot for swapping rings and publicly declaring your undying love for your partner. Offering views of the surrounding landscaped gardens, this multilevel area is ideal for intimate occasions. Space can also be set aside indoors for days when the weather is unsuitable.

The Yorkeen is defined by 18th-century touches, golden decor, and a beautiful marble fireplace. For a seated reception, up to 100 people can be accommodated here, depending on the style of tables used. The Kanakla Room is equally sophisticated with its dark mahogany panelling, sleek fireplace, and stained glass effects. Ideally, it would function as a buffet room but it can also be used for other events, such as late-night dancing. The Langara Room is another option. Adorned by beautiful carvings, bookcases, and high ceilings, it can be used in conjunction with the other rooms. The Library, Solarium, and the Boardroom are two other interior areas that are offered.

Services Offered

Owing to a one-event-per-day policy, Cecil Green Park House becomes your exclusive venue for the duration of your celebration. Their partnership with Scholar’s Table means that they can provide weddings with expertly prepared culinary delights. Their dishes are inspired by Executive Chef David Speight, and he enjoys treating people to tasty food that does justice to the occasion.

History

Originally built as Kanakla, it was architected in 1912 by a high-profile architect named Samuel Maclure. After changing hands several times, it was eventually purchased by Ida and Cecil Green and renamed before being donated to the University of British Columbia. Significantly renovated in 1989, today it plays host to special weddings.

"The BEST venue in Vancouver"

“That’s the best venue in Vancouver”. This is what a long-time event planner told my friend when she told her my wedding was going to be at the Cecil Green Park House. And I believe that she was spot on. We loved having both our ceremony and reception with our loved ones in this breathtakingly beautiful home, and many of our guests spoke about how they felt as if they were a part of one big family in the intimate and gorgeous setting of the Yorkeen dining room. We planned our wedding during what should have been a very stressful period – amidst a pandemic with evolving restrictions. But it honestly never felt that stressful and this is partly because of Gordon, Gordon, Gordon! Gordon Purchase was our person! At the time, he was our event manager and he was always there to respond to our many questions, listen to our concerns and calm us down - in the kindest way. We were also very fortunate that Cecil Green is one of the few wedding venues in Vancouver with its own covered patio. Despite some light rain, we said our I do’s outside, with a view of the Salish Sea behind us. And due to restrictions at the time, dancing and mingling wasn’t permitted inside, but because of that large patio and park-like setting, we still had cocktail hour, a foosball table, air hockey and the realization of our dream – a karaoke dance party!

Challenging but rewarding

Multiple incomplete invoices sent before taking vacations, non-communicative, and generally difficult to get information from. But in the last month we wound up with someone who was pleasant to work with and the venue was absolutely stunning.

Gorgeous Wedding Day!

We just got married at Cecil Green and can’t believe how amazing it was. The house is truly a magical venue that few places in Vancouver are able to compete with aesthetically. We wanted our theme to feel lavish and romantic and we really were able to do this will all the fireplaces, decorated mantles and romantic finishing of the venue. The multiple rooms in the manor create a fun and dynamic space for guests to utilize which helps break up the space while providing an incredible backdrop for decorating. We were ecstatic with how everything turned out! The day, and our photos are breathtaking!

The cost is extremely reasonable and they don’t have the required minimum food spending amount that many of the Vancouver hotels do!

Beautiful venue unlike any other

This venue was absolutely breathtaking and had all of the unique character we were looking for. It’s a great option for an outdoor ceremony, because it has a covered area outside in case of rain. The garden is beautiful year-around and the interior is so interesting that it doesn’t need any additional decor. It’s quite small - we had only 80 guests and the dinner inside was cramped. For this reason, I would not recommend it for a larger wedding. It was also very hot inside. It’s an old building, so no air conditioning! One of the security guards was a bit rude at the end of the night - I guess he wanted to wrap things up but we still had half hour to clean - but other than that, it was a wonderful experience. If you’re looking for a gorgeous and interesting venue - then you will find it here.

Wedding venue

Fell in love with the beautiful scenery here. I love the tudor style house as the backdrop. This venue provided indoor and outdoor options in case of weather changes. The pricing for the venue was reasonable compared to other spots we looked at. Parking was easy for guests. It had its own catering team as well. A one stop shop for us, we liked that convenience. Scholars catering listed all the fees involved, no hidden fees. If I didn't understand a fee they were patient to explain. What we paid was totally worth it! It was an amazing day with beautiful results.

This venue is gorgeous, perfect for a spring floral wedding. There are separate rooms that you can dedicate to dinner, dancing, greeting guests, bridal dressing area etc. The staff is also very knowledgeable and friendly, though my coordinator was on vacation on my wedding day and only the student coordinator and proctor were there. I would recommend this venue for small weddings, because the dining room was quite cramped and there wasn't much room for people to walk around.

Our wedding was beautiful from start to finish. The venue is gorgeous and we had so many guests complimenting the facility, the service staff and the food. We were impressed by how smoothly it went, from choosing a date, meeting with the coordinator Lindsay, and dealing with the house staff. It is not pricey when compared to other venues of this caliber. We would not hesitate to recommend it!

Beautiful venue

The venue is absolutely beautiful and everything we dreamed up. On the day of they set up everything beautifully - my coordinator did have to correct them on the set up of a few things. Leading up to the day they were great about answering all my questions, they had mixed up my parking option but it worked out in the end, response time was generally a few days but overall the venue was the perfect wedding venue. They work exclusively with Sage catering which would be nice if there was another option for more flexibility.

Lovely place. Some challenges

Beautiful venue - would highly recommend on that count.
Communication with venue staff was fine.

Communication with (exclusive) caterer (Sage Events) was a bit more challenging. The people we dealt with at first seemed new in the job and struggled to answer questions that weren't totally run of the mill. Once Bogdan took over, everything cleared up. Thanks Bogdan!

The menu for 2022 was delayed multiple times, and when it finally came out prices had been hiked by 25% on average (and vendor meals by, somehow, 60% - from $25 to $40). Sure, inflation etc, but I happen to know where to look this up - google "statcan personal inflation calculator" - and grocery price inflation in BC from Feb 2021 to Feb 2022 was 6.6%, and inflation in the "eating out" category in that same period was 3.3%.

But my bigger issue with the price hike is fair dealing. Nothing would have stopped them from quoting higher prices to us in 2021, at a point where we could have made an informed choice. Once we book a date for a wedding, we're locked in, so a substantial price hike at a point where we can't shop around anymore just doesn't feel like doing business in good faith.

All that said, the food was delicious and the event went great. If you're prepared for a cost overrun and a bit of micromanaging, I'd still very much recommend this place.
