We'll be honest—When we think of the Pacific Northwest, dry desert landscapes and sunshine don't immediately come to mind. The region is famous for its lush forests, rainy weather and scenic lakes, but Washington-based photographer Katrina Thaxton wanted to shake things up a bit. She coordinated this styled shoot in Vantage, about three hours from Seattle, to showcase the state's lesser-known scenery. Inspired by the desert setting, the shoot is filled with boho chic details and eclectic decor.
The end result is above and beyond beautiful—browse our favorite photos here.
We're lusting over this rose gold engagement ring.
Long feathers, assorted greenery and yellow pincushion proteas were paired together to create the ultimate boho bouquet.
The bride was stunning in a gown by Hayley Paige.
How amazing is the open back? Not to mention the tulle skirt. Love!
The gown also featured a lace bodice.
Barely-there makeup let the bride's beautiful freckles shine through!
A tousled updo kept her auburn tresses romantic and polished.
The look was finished with a few face-framing tendrils.
The dapper groom sported a classic white button-down shirt, which he paired with brown suspenders.
The boutonniere included thistle and greenery, with a few feathers to match the bridal bouquet.
Fun fact: The models are a real engaged couple! Too cute.
"In my career as a photographer, this was my very first styled wedding shoot I put together. so it was a lot of fun" Thaxton said. "I wanted to go for something out-of-the-box, different and unique for our area. 'Desert' was the first thing that came to mind and really wanting sun for this shoot. The creativity flowed from there."
A simple yet stunning altar was constructed in a teepee style. Thaxton collected the driftwood herself from a beach in Federal Way, Washington.
The top of the structure was decorated with overflowing greenery, feathers and bright blooms.
"In the state of Washington, a desert-themed wedding is unheard of, so why not style one?" Thaxton said. "Every piece of decoration was from my own home."
A variety of rugs and throw pillows created a cozy lounge area.
The place settings included white china, muted blue linens and napkin rings with rope accents.
Fresh flowers and greenery were displayed in a gold Moroccan-style vessel.
"I wanted to create something couples can look at and see it was affordable but still doable and beautiful," Thaxton said. "I think we accomplished showing that Washingtonians can do this kind of theme here and that it's just as beautiful, if not more."
Last but not least: the wedding cake! The three-tiered confection was decorated with buttercream and fondant frosting, gold foil details and pastel blossoms.
