Where do i look?

Shannon, on June 13, 2019 at 1:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Where do I go to look for 1920s era dresses? There are a ton on Amazon, but without buying them and then returning ones I don’t like, I have no way of really envisioning anything. I am really loving the look of this one in blue and in gold (FH prefers the blue as I wear silver jewelry). He says to buy one and if it’s not what I want, to send it back. That’s a whole lot of hassle and I can’t try on different looks that way. Is there anywhere specific I might be able to find dresses to suit that theme?

I feel like you could find these kind of dresses in person but that it would be harder to. My mother in law chose something like that as her gown for my wedding and she just found it at like a Ross or something.

I feel like Adrianna Pappel has a lot of Art Deco themed dresses and gowns. You can try them on in like Nordstrom’s for size and fit. If you don’t like the in-store price you can always check Poshmark for a used one

Darn. I was just near a Ross and didn’t consider that they would have anything.

I feel like places like Ross has many different kinds of dresses and such a large selection they really may just have it. but they also may not, so that's sort of the downside but i would give it a try anyway.

I think other department stores carry her line as well, if you do have department stores, or other large clothing stores near you I would suggest looking at their websites to see what they carry. If you want to avoid the process of purchasing and returning, it might be easier to go to a brick and mortar store near you and see if they either have dresses for you in stock, or if you could have them ship one directly to the store. That way if it doesn’t fit or it isn’t what you want, you’re already there to hand it back!

If you have a special occasion dress store near you, they could also help.

With Prime Wardrobe you can order a box of items to try on for free, and then you only pay for what you want to keep. You'll still have to send everything else back, but that might be a better system. No idea if those dresses would be included, but worth a shot.

Otherwise, I would look at local vintage and thrift stores. Also, see if you have a David's Bridal near you. I see lots of blue sparkly dresses under their formal dress section online. They will likely have some of these in store, or may be able to order them so you can try on in store and they will handle shipping/return. If can you wait until prom season comes around again, stores will probably have a bigger selection of non-white formal dresses.

I second the Adrianna Papell suggestion. Macy's carries her line. Also, look into Sue Wong dressed.

I recommend start with finding dresses with a similar shape just to get the idea if you at least like this shape on you. Then if you decide you do you'll know that you can find that same shape but in the style you're looking for online. A lot of department stores have evening gowns if you want to try an actual store. Macy's is a great place to start.

I'm going to have to go to a bigger city. We don't have Macy's/Nordstom/anything like that near here.
