Pass the apps please!

Lynnie, on June 7, 2018 at 3:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception

Hands-down my favorite food at every wedding is whatever is being served at cocktail hour!! I love hors d'oeuvres and I see a lot of couples taking a fun and creative approach to their appetizer selections. 馃馃崵馃崝

What hors d'oeuvres are you serving during cocktail hour? Are there any specific apps you're really excited about?

We aren't doing any fancy appetizers, but we are having a popcorn bar for after the reception! We will have 4-5 different flavors of popcorn with mix ins such as candy, pretzels, nuts, etc. It's been a hit at every wedding I've been to, so it'll be interesting to see how mine turns out.

I was so excited to be able to join my guests for cocktail hour because I was really looking forward to these apps. The one that I really enjoyed was a mini chicken pot pie app but it was a deconstructed version on a big spoon - it was so cool and our guests loved them! ETA: just realized I have a picture of our ring bearer eating one of them.

We got greedy when it came to selecting our hors d'oeuvres and went with all things we personally love!

    Our passed apps were:

    Southern Style Deviled Eggs

Assorted Bruschetta with Garlic Dipping Sauce

Shrimp and Grits Shooter with Smoked Tomato Fondue

Andouille Sausage and Shrimp Brochette with Creole Tomato Sauce

Cornmeal Crusted Catfish with Southern Tartar Sauce

We're pretty excited for cocktail hour and hope we can at least have some food from it. We will have two stations - a mashed potato bar and a cheese/veggie/fruit/antipasto table - and 10 passed apps.

For the passed apps, I'm most looking forward to mini cheesesteak spring rolls (we're in the Philly suburbs), coconut shrimp, crab-stuffed mushrooms and veggie spring rolls. The others we're having are clams casino, bacon-wrapped scallops, salmon canape, pastry-wrapped asparagus, sesame chicken bites and sirloin skewers with orange-ginger sauce.

10 passed apps and stations?? That's awesome!

There are some insanely incredible catering groups in Philly who have extensive food offerings! I was in a friend's wedding that was catered by Cescaphe and I could not believe all the food they got with their package!

Our venue is semi-inclusive, so in-house catering was part of the package. We are pretty happy with all that they offered.

We are currently still building our menu (it's not set, we determine what we want) and right now, we are thinking:

    -mini lobster rolls

    -Chicken and waffle bites

    -Some kind of scallop app

    -lamb lollipops

-some kind of short rib bite

    -poke or ceviche bites

    -some kind of mini taco

    -something with goat cheese

    -something with guacamole

    -a duck passed bite

    -a paella arancini

    -a pork belly bite

We are also doing a raw bar, during cocktail hour.

Late night, we are having a food truck come and then a firepit on the beach, with smores.
