NWR - I'm getting LASIK tomorrow **UPDATE in comments**

Kat, on May 11, 2012 at 7:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

...and I'm super nervous. I've worn contacts for about 10-11 years and recently started wearing torric lenses for astigmatisms, which are very uncomfortable. It feels like there's an eyelash in my eye 24/7. It only took about a week of wearing them to decide I was over it.

Part of me is nervous to spend so much money to get it done right now since we're paying for the wedding too, but I know it will be SO worth it and we have been doing a really good job of budgeting for everything.

Anyway, I know everyone says it's a super simple proceedure and it's fast and doesn't hurt...but I'm still pretty anxious about the whole thing. It's just kinda freaky when you think about what they're doing and the fact that you have to be awake while they do it. I'd appreciate prayers and good vibes. More so for my peace of mind than anything else!! Thanks! Smiley smile

Totally worth it!! it's super fast. Just stock up on artificial tears, I went through 2 boxes while my eyes healed.

Good Luck, I had it done a little over 5 years ago with wonderful results and no side effects. Life is so much easier with out contacts!

Good luck! I can't wait to be able to afford LASIK surgery. I'm so tired of contacts and buying solution etc.

I think I'm most looking forward to being able to see when I wake up in the morning without having to fumble for glasses. Not paying for lenses and solution is also a huge plus. It's going to save me money in the long run. That's how I'm justifying it!

Good luck! I actually watched my FI get lasik a couple years ago. I wasn't in the room but the room had windows and his eye was up on this big tv. It was actually really gross to watch lol but he said he didn't feel a thing! He is so happy he got it done.

Sending you good vibes.....I would love to hear about your experience once your feeling better. I have wore glasses since I was 10, sooo almost 19 years now. I have never gotten contacts because the thought of putting something in my eye was weird. But I'm so over glasses and have had thoughts here and there about getting this done.

You'll be fine and good luck! I have a friend who had that done. He was really nervous to because he didnt even ever wear contacts..he hates things new his eyes. He was very glad he did it though. He also went through a lot of artificial tears and at first had some difficulty driving at night. The lights bothered him, but it went away pretty quickly I think. You are going to be so happy!

Let us know how it goes! I've thought about lasik, but thinking about it makes me so nervous. I can't even imagine life without glasses, I've been wearing them since I was six.

Congratulations on your emancipation from contacts and glasses! I got my surgery almost 2 years ago...went from not being able to clearly make out the faces of people 5 feet in front of me to having 20/15 in one eye and 20/10 in my shooting eye and recovery was fairly smooth. Right after surgery, I took the vicotin they gave me, took a 4 hour nap, woke up fine put on a pair of shades and went out and about lol! Just remember that for the first couple of months you will be extremely sensitive to lights (and will even need to wear your shades indoors a times) so always have a pair on you! Congrats!

Thanks everyone for all your comments! My surgery went well but I was terrified! What they say about it being fast and painless is true. The only part that hurt was when they took the tape off that was holding back my eyelashes! I slept most of the day yesterday and feel pretty good today except for my eyes being a little bit scratchy.

I had a follow up appointment with my doctor today and he says I'm already seeing 20/20!

If any of you who are considering getting LASIK are interested in more details, I wrote about it in my blog, so feel free to check it out. I'd also be happy to answer any questions!

Thanks for the update. I'm curious how I will react when they go to do whatever it is they do with my eyes. Like am I going to have that natural reaction of wanting to close my eyes to protect them?

Tasha - its weird but I never felt the urge to blink or close my eyes while they were being held open. You would think that it would start to hurt not being able to blink but it doesn't. I think I was so freaked out by everything that was going on that having the urge to close my eyes was the furthest thing from my mind.
