favors... starting to think of ideas.

So last night I was thinking of favors with my (supportive aunt for all of you who remember my rant from a couple of days ago) And I really loved the idea of doing maple sugar candy in the same of maple leaves and also chocolate molds. But she thought just having those in a bowl on each table would be better and then something else as a favor. And since I always feel better when I find a sweet sale. I was thinking what if at the end of the season I am able to find fall picture frames (or doesn't have to be fall either) and have their name and table number inside the frame and that would be their favor?

I honestly like your original idea better. People seem to appreciate food favors more. Oftentimes, favors can even get left at the reception anyway.

Just my thought. Then again, I'm not doing food favors, but that's just because it goes better with my theme.

I agree with Melanie. I am not sure how bowls of candy on each table would look with your centerpieces and then the place settings. Might get crowded to be honest.

Unless you were having a candy buffet and then wanted to do an additional favor on TOP of all that then ok yes the frame idea is cute.

HOWEVER i think it is an unnecessary cost that you could cut. I think the chocolate maple leaves and sugar candy is an awesome idea and you can still get the maple candy on sale after the fall season or even in fall season. I am in NH so they are EVERYWHERE no matter the season. The chocolate molds can be bought online for cheap (anything that is a silicone ice cube tray can be a chocolate mold as well fyi)

I like your first idea. Unless you have money to throw at more stuff, i would say no frames. Most folks leave things behind, which makes me sad. So we are doing candy buffet as our favors.

I did favors galore! I also put them in a gift bag. Our theme was ingredients for a successful marriage and all the favors spoke to that in some way. We had matches, pens, re-usable canvas grocery bags, mints, sparkling cider, and a CD! People LOVED it all. Here are some of them.

Get a feel for your guests. Ask a few of them what they would want. Don't be afraid to get input from the very people you are planning to host. If doing candy watch out for those with sugar issues (health or preferences)

Do you have a theme? Is it fall?

Thanks ladies, we are not doing a candy buffet... I have been to 3 wedding is past summer all with candy buffets and we just feel like it's just to expected. so they only candy would be the favors. Her thought is that some are allergic to chocolate and a lot of people do not like the maple sugar candy (which blows my mind haha)... I'm not sure if bowls would be used or not I just am thinking of a that right now we also might just leave them on a the table... a store in my town makes molds the old fashion way and wraps them up in foil that is all the fall colors. Again thanks for all your advice

Ok. Love your inspiration board from your profile! I did candy on the tables at each place setting. So how about doing the candy on the table that way? Here are some examples -- not fall but you get the idea. That way you can do both and skip the favors.

Hi Edubbs! I havn't seen you in forever!

I love your original food idea...But I also like the idea of have a picture frame to keep forever.

The ideas we have now are to buy scented soaps and make a paper wrapper to go around them, jazz them up a bit, because I know a lot of our guests would really like that kind of thing. Also we are going to make a donation to St. Jude and they send you scrolls or bookmarks in honor of our guests.

Hey Mags! I'm back -- a little nostalgic at the almost 1 yr mark. Love your soap idea! I saw these earlier today and fell in love with them.

If your candies are wrapped then you could sprinkle them around the tables as decoration AND favors.

I have still yet to be to a candy buffet wedding so i hope it isn't over done in my area lol, if they are oh well more for me Smiley laugh

I think if you placed the candy individually on the place settings or above them it would look adorable.

For those allergic to different foods, they will probably know what to expect and you unfortunately cant cater to every one.

I have 2 severe gluten allergies at my wedding every one gets the same thing (except those 2 they get special meals & cake etc) I am singling them out though so its not like every one has the option to have what they are having. If you know some people may have an allergy then at THEIR table put something different & let them know Smiley smile

I do like the frame idea but i also know people may leave them behind, my only advice on that is don't spend toooo much money on them. I have seen them as place cards or escort cards and think(cont

FH and I are talking about doing something similar to this... It doubles as a centerpiece! But we are going for something more fun/whimsical for our centerpieces. Smiley smile

Those picture frames may add up in cost! Even with a good sale, and in that case, will you be able to buy enough? Most stores don't have a ton of the same picture frame in stock.

Food usually goes over better, and people don't care if they get a favor or not, so if they don't like either the chocolate (I'm sure people are allergic but I've never once met one that is!) or the maple candies they are not going to throw a fit or cry that they didn't get a favor.

And some people are really picky about picture frames too, so either way you look at it, you'll never please them all. Because honestly, if the picture frame doesn't match my others, it sits and eventually gets tossed, like my prom ones did!

I am a people pleaser too Soon2beMrs.K lol but I have meet some of my limits with this whole wedding planning thing lol. I went from having 4 flavors of cupcakes to ohhh i think we are up to 8.... =(

Trying to win that battle back down to 5 or 6 max lol

You have to think of it as how much time and stress do you want to put into favors. I mean if we were talking appetizers and main course or even desert, yes I would be right there with you stressing if some one didn't like it or couldn't eat it what would I do. But favors are a thank you gift for your guests on your special day. I can't even begin to count how many gifts i have received over the years where i just smiled and said thank you but never used and regifted to some one else lol

I love the candy idea, if you love it, I say stick with it Smiley smile if you can afford to do both, do both! it's YOUR wedding, do what makes you happiest Smiley laugh
