Destination wedding!

Brittany, on May 26, 2020 at 12:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Hi everyone!

So my wedding is 03/18/2021 and it’s a destination wedding, most guests will be traveling from out of state but some are coming from countries as far away as Greece. How soon in advance should I send out invites and save the dates?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Since you have guests coming from outside the country, I suggest to send invitations 6 months ahead.

You should send a Save-the-date between 8 - 10 months prior and you can send the invitations on the normal timeline of 12 weeks. For those traveling from other countries, you may want to consider adding a week or two for the invitations (pending mail system).

This is a really important point. My FH is from Costa Rica and we're building in a month because it genuinely takes that long for mail to get there.

I understand, I have family in Hungary and throughout Europe sometimes mail takes a week, sometimes it take two or longer. There is no rhyme or reason.

Absolutely! Mailing internationally can be frustrating, but it's important to FH that his family have the same invitations the rest of the guests receive (which I think is totally reasonable).

Save the dates, ASAP! I would send your invitations around the 10-12 week mark.

Wow guess I jumped the Gun I am having a DW in September and my invites went out 9 months ahead. Before you say why 9 months I'll explain The Hotel and airline allowed us to do group rates with payment plans so everyone was able to put $100 to hold room and had until 30 days prior to pay off his way it wasn't a big purchase at once and more people were able to come because of the payment arrangement. (I'm having 112 guest flying to Jamaica = 13 from JA joining us)
