Destination Wedding Etiquette

We are planning to have a Destination Wedding in Costa Rica because we want to have an intimate gathering of our favorite people (about 50 made the cut). We have lots of family and friends from our home town that we want to celebrate with. Is it a faux pas to invite people to an engagement party that will not get an invite to our wedding?

You could have an intimate wedding with 50 guests at home. So, just because this wedding happens to be in Costa Rica, it doesn't change the fact that only guests invited to the wedding should be invited to any pre-wedding parties.

We are having a destination wedding and only invited immediate family and close friends (35) to Jamaica. We are having a pre wedding celebration (reception) and inviting about a 100 people 3 weeks before we fly out so we're done planning anything wedding related when we return. I think it's your vision and you make the rules. What we're doing is less ideal and nontraditional but we're absolutely in love with "our" way.
